I've passed by Cobblestones so many times and had never thought about eating there. For Valentine's Day, me and my boyfriend were trying to figure out where to eat and just decided to stay local and try this place out. I honestly didn't have that much expectations for this place considering their ratings on here, but we decided to try it out anyway. With that being said, I was pleasantly surprised. Their buffalo tenders are definitely "the best," as it states on the menu lol, as well as their specialty garlic bread. The dessert we got was very good too! My only complaint was that the entree fell short but otherwise, I had a really good experience overall and wouldn't mind trying it out again. The service was spot on too! read more

I came here last night with a group of 15 coworkers & we had an exceptional experience at the Cobblestone. I do need to mention that they are really against YELP for some reason & even ask you to not yelp on their menu - but I was never a girl that follows directions so here is my review. The Cobblestone is in a cute little town called Lowell, this was my first time here and the entire town is ablaze with Christmas lights, very cute. The restaurant is in what looks like a very large old home and upon entering the patron is greeted by a warm, wonderful, comforting fire. My group went upstairs where we had a room to ourselves. We were provided with Christmas tree and a table to set up our gifts. We had one waiter.....one... he serviced the 15 of us FLAWLESSLY! One would have thought we had a wait staff of 30, he didn't miss a beat. Honestly, I can't get over how good this kid was, I wish I knew his name so I could give him a shout out. The group ordered oysters, calamari, a hummus plate for me and a few more random appetizers to pass around the table. All of the food was delicious and there was nothing left when the plates were cleared. They have a very nice beer & wine list and offer flights for the undecided. Again, we waited for nothing - our expeditious waiter kept the libations flowing while we were conducting our meeting. We ordered for and the portion sizes are very generous - come hungry or don't order anything extra! I ordered the vegetarian butternut squash (see photo) and a side of brussels sprouts, DELICIOUS! I cleaned my plate. All of the plates were cleaned, everyone loved their meal and again - the service was exceptional. Coffee and after dinner cordials were served quickly and we exchanged gifts. Cobblestones is alright. If my girlfriend didn't work there, I can definitely see me not frequenting it as often as I probably do. I prefer the contemporary Moonstones by far. Regardless, the food is average, and you must do the bar if you do go. The dining room is straight out of a funeral parlor. I know, I know...it's supposed to have that old city "charm", but that old city charm makes me feel like there should be plastic on the sofas and seats. The drinks are nice, and they have an OK beer selection. For food, the appetizers are meh at best. The fried brie, flatbreads, and nachos are all par-sub par. They are overpriced for entrees, so I stick with the roast beef sandwiches or burgers. If you're REALLY hungry, the chicken parm is HUGE and very good. Overall, Cobblestones is over-rated and really not good for more than after-work drinks and small bites. However, if you get my girlfriend as a waitress, give her a huge tip so she can pay back some of the money she owes me. Thanks. read more

Food's not bad, Grandma still loves the place and drags me there. The chef's food leaves a good taste in your mouth but the owner going on local food blogs and posts after newspaper articles blasting anyone who has a critique of anything in his place leaves a bad taste in your mouth. God forbid you say the place isn't perfect. I did like the dining experience, but the guy's boorish on-line rants is such a turn-off I really can't see giving him any more of my money until he COOLS IT and appreciates compliments and criticisms rather than going ape-shiz at customers. Too bad, his chef reasonably descent buffalo chicken tenders. I've changed my review to reflect that this guy HAS cooled it and I no longer feel hesitant to dine there lest I "set off" the wrong person. read more

We were looking for good beer and burgers and figured this was the place given the scent of char-grilling wafting in the air outside. The dining room looked pretty fancy for how we were dressed so we in the half empty bar at 8pm on Saturday night. Service was prompt and the beer menu was pretty good. We settled in awaiting what we hoped was going to be higher echelon bar food given the Boston prices. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad for about $17 bucks and was presented with a bowl full of tasteless Romain, a smallish grilled chicken breast, a single anchovies and a few wisps of very dry Parmesan. I got the dressing on the side, which was a good thing given how heavy it was. I could have done just as well at Chilis. My lady ordered a burger Medium (not medium rare) that arrived bloody on a plate with exceedingly small French fries in an exceedingly small amount. Again, I found myself wishing we'd gone to Chilis. The good news is that the beer menu is quite good and they rotate the craft offerings regularly. I'll be back for beer but won't return for food. Maybe the dining room is better? For a $24 order of scallops and chese tortolini there were only 3 scallops and not huge either. I would say the total weight was about 5 - 6 oz. Cream sause that they were in was very bland.. wife ordered the stripped Bass this was even more bland than my scallops. Apps very over priced we got the lobster and crab cakes.. Okay lets make a note crab cakes for whoever of you had them before contain all crab meat. This concotion was loaded with bread crumbs and I could only fine one little piece of lobster in my cake which was about the size of a silver dollar. Each of the two times we've gone here, no one acknowledged our presence upon arrival. I had to actually seek out someone. That said, on our second visit when we actually had a chance to sit down, our waitress was fantastic! I would go back for her alone. Vegetarian options are super limited - I got the chefs special vegetarian something or other - it was very, very disappointing. Flavorless and boring. It made me sad inside myself. That said - my husband ordered their self proclaimed best Buffalo wings ... and he did agree with their assessment! In fact, he actually ordered a second round if them to pack up and take with him for the evening! His main course was a Ruben sandwich, which he said was also good, and looked *gigantic* to me. Cobblestones is cool to get beers and share a meal or something but as a twenty-something bum like myself, its too expensive to be going there with any kind of consistency (or to have your own meal). (For example, the most awesome Macaroni and cheese (with peas and onions) is 15 dollars. yes you read that right. but there are some cheaper appetizers like flat bread pizza for 11 dollars that you could have as a meal. My wife and I stopped by the day after Christmas (it was a Wednesday) at 7:00 pm, thinking that it would be busy, but were surprised to find the dining room nearly empty. There was one group of four leaving as we were entering, and one other couple. The bar, on the other hand, seemed lively. I was intrigued by the decor and feel of the place, which was old timey (in a good way). The drink menu reflects this with lots of bourbon cocktails. I was not feeling adventurous, so I went with a Hendricks and tonic, which was made well, and not overly expensive. To start we had the cobbleskins (I think that's what they were called), which were their take on potato skins. They were tasty, but slightly overcooked. I had the mushroom risotto, which had pieces of braised lamb in it. It was cooked well, and I enjoyed it, but I thought that the lamb didn't really add anything to the flavor. My wife enjoyed the steak tips, which were broiled perfectly medium, but thought that the accompanying mashed potatoes were bland. By that point we were pretty sated, but we finished up by sharing a piece of cheesecake. It was tasty but we weren't blown away. Our server was prompt (maybe a little too prompt - he brought us our entrees before we had finished our appetizer), polite, and attentive. Was looking for a place to grab dinner before a concert at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. We made a reservation for 16 people at 5:30pm on a Friday night and they gave us our own private room. Amy our waitress was awesome. Very pleasant and efficient in getting us our food orders into the kitchen so we'd be able to get to our concert. Two of our other friends showed up a bit later and Amy was able to get them setup and their orders in. Great service and food. I had the special braised short ribs, that were very tender and tasty with mashed potatoes and roasted carrots and parsnips. Others got the prime rib which looked great and the chicken marsala on paparadelle noodles. Great price and atmosphere. Next time, I'll need to stay for a more relaxed meal and try the desserts... read more

OK, really? This is the hyped nice restaurant of Lowell? We were so excited when my mother in law came to town and offered to take us someplace nice we hadn't tried, so we picked here, of course. We wanted to love it, because its walking distance from our apartment, too. But...well, the waitress never brought us bread. The pasta were greasy (even the chicken marsala, which I know is made with a creamy sauce here, unlike many places. I was expecting creamy, not oil-slick-on-a-plate.) The bouillabaisse was pretty tasteless, though it had a fair amount of seafood. Service was really slow, and the meal felt super overpriced for what we got. Moonstones, run by the same people, is WAY better and more fun. read more

They've cranked the prices up ridiculously for food that's just 'okay'. The drinks are so-so in quality with prices that just are too much for what they are. Improved beer options is nice and all but still far too much. I mean sitting and having to wait over 6 minutes to just be acknowledged is ridiculous. Then 15 minutes later still waiting to put in my drink order!?!? No thanks. I'm glad lowell has more better options now. But still is really disappointing to have such horrible experience here. We've been fans of Moonstones for years, and finally came here. What a disappointment! The building and decor are nice, but the food was mediocre at best and the service poor. We had lunch; perhaps dinner is better, but we won't find out because we're not coming back. I didn't like the hummus, too much cumin, and the meat in my french dip was almost not recognizable as beef. Nobody else in our party liked their food much, either. read more

Cobblestones is my absolute favorite place. My standards for restaurants and service have heightened from being in the Boston area and working downtown. However, this restaurant and its bar knocks most Boston places out of the water. Extensive wine list. Year-round oyster bar. Awesome drink menu..martinis look awesome. A great variety of beers on draft I usually bring the same good friend of mine each time I go in. He says he has dreams of eatting their steaktips! I tried one last night from his plate (after fighting him off)and it was delicious! I usually get the Mediterranean-ish appetizer. It marries perfectly with my glass of wine. So beyond the food and drinks...what else is there? Oh yes, they have a half dozen flatsceens with a sports games on normally..that is key. Usually good service...the food seems to take a little long at times, but the drinks happily hold us over. And the old building and decor makes it feel very cozy. I am NOT overexaggerating when I say this is my alltime favorite place! I would recommend it to anyone who comes into the Lowell area!! read more

Husband and I took our first visit on St. Patrick's Day, which was also restaurant week. So probably busier than normal. The restaurant had a pretty sizeable wait time (but great authentic irish music!!) but they served the same price-fixe in the bar area and we received immediate seating. Our server was quirky and funny, which I did not expect from such an old-school institutional place. The Irish restaurant week meals (corned beef, shepherd's pie, fish and chips) were hearty and just ok; the corned beef was actually kind of weirdly prepared (ironically, the $2 plate we had down at Cappy's earlier on the 17th was wayyy better). Meh. The bar crowd was definitely higher-end than the other places in Lowell along the main strip - dressed better, etc. It was kind of strange to be eating price fixe in a bar at a raised bar-height table... it was REALLY loud in there and they were playing strange teeny bopper music over the loud increasingly drunk conversations... When I peeked in the main dining room to listen to a minute of the live music, it was like a totally different world. Stuffy floral prints on the wall/ curtain... really open and bright room. Seemed kind of depressing actually, like having a wedding reception at the knights of columbus or something. It reminded me of the one "nice place" in my small college town where you always took your grandma when she came to visit, because it was the only expensive place. I think I would like the main room a lot more if they did less with florals. read more

I've now been to Cobblestones a couple of times..once for lunch, once for dinner. It seems like the "go to" place for politicos on Lowell due to its proximity to City Hall. The interior is on the "clubby" side, conservative but comfortable. The service was great for lunch and atrocious for dinner. Dinner service for 10 people requires coordination. That was the last thing shown by the staff at Cobblestones. The servers had no understanding of what dish went to which person, orders were not properly taken, and one person did not get their first course. This does not bode well for a place like Cobblestones, a place that wants to cater to groups. The food is serviceable, decent but not great. I've had a burger that was decent but cooked to well done when I had asked for medium rare. Their chowder is good and has an interesting herbal taste.Their entrees are serviceable and do not stand out as any better or worse than other restaurants that are of the same size as Cobblestones. In the future, I'll take friends and guests for a drink in the bar but head somewhere else for food. read more

Came with with a group of friends on a Saturday night. I enjoyed the ambience and setting of Cobblestones. The service was pretty decent. However, the food and drinks didn't meet expectations. A couple of our drinks were weak and the meals were just barely warm. A couple of us ordered the prime rib and for the price, it was definitely not worth spending. Every time I have gone to Cobblestones I have walked out smiling huge! I love this place!!! I usually venture into the bar for one of their amazingly delicious martinis. John, one of the bartenders knows how to make a great one!! The appetizers are so yummy! The buffalo tenders are the best I have ever had! I also love the MEDITERRANEAN-ISH dish which is filled with yummy foods, grilled vegetables, hummus, pita chips, balsamic tomatoes, sliced prosciutto, salami and provolone cheese -SO GOOD! I have only sat down for dinner once in the main dining room, usually its just the bar area. The one time I sat in the dining area I was sure I would be doing it again. The service was great and the tables were comfy. I had the SEARED SEA SCALLOPS which were served in a Cajun cream sauce, Oh my goodness this dish was one of the best I have ever had! My boyfriend had the steak tips and said they were excellent. The prices are a little high for Lowell but so worth it! I don't mind paying for a great meal. The only negative that I can see is the parking, PAIN IN THE BUTT! The lot in front holds about 6 cars and then its on the street you go. read more

Recently dined at Moonstones, so I figured a trip to Cobblestones would be just as good. Service was terrible. The young lady at the front didn't even say hello, instead just stood there waiting for us to speak... Our waiter, some chunky white guy, was a joke. I mean, come on, if you don't want to be a waiter, then don't be one. I waited tables for almost 5 years, and while on the job, you act like you love it, and that's where your money comes from!!! I used to make 500+ a night, regardless of what night because of my attitude while serving, busy or not! We had to ask some other woman for our check because we didn't see our waiter for almost 10+ minutes when we finished eating... Anyways, date got the spare rib I think, which was amazing, sauteed spinach, and potatoes. All delicious. I got the duck special, with spinach and lentils... Quite good, duck was a bit dry, but overall both dishes were great. My drink wasn't that good, and my dates was actually quite delicious (a bit sweet for my taste, but, still good).. Left a sorry tip for sorry service, but the food and restaurant were quite nice! Would recommend if in the area, or nearby, just really stinks that this waiter was so pathetic. read more

Cobblestones is a really great casual place right in downtown Lowell. My loving sister was visiting for the night and treated me to dinner here. We were both very impressed. Depending on your tastes, eating here could be a $$ or $$$ experience. I kicked things off with a Ketel One martini garnished with tomolives. I now have a new favorite drink garnish. Apparently they're not olives at all, but a small pickled green tomato. I've never seen this at another restaurant, so points for uniqueness. My sis sipped on a caipirinha which she described as almost a hybrid of a margarita and a mojito. Our waiter delivered a basket of delicious looking bread and told us that it actually comes from Lowell Portuguese Bakery on Gorham St. The bread itself was devine and the compound butter (thank you, Food Network, for introducing me to this term) served with it only made it better. I believe it was fresh dill that was mixed with the butter. Again, like with the tomolives, more points for raising the bar on simple things like drink garnishes and breadbaskets. The menu is pretty standard American with some steaks, fish, chicken, etc. They've also got a great sandwich menu which you can order from in the dining room. On this particular evening, they were having a lobster mac and cheese special. I must say, one of the best I've ever had. Tons of lobster meat, peas, pancetta, some buttery breadcrumbs on top, and a wonderfully cheesy sauce to tie it all together. My sister had the Italian muffaletta sandwich. It was HUGE and she could only eat half of it. Lucky for me, she left the leftovers with me and they made a great lunch the next day. Against our better judgement, we both had dessert. I opted for the refreshing lemon sorbet. It was not served in a hand-crafted crystallized suger bowl as the menu states, but served in a martini glass with pieces of the crystallized sugar artfully placed within. After the incredibly rich and filling meal I'd just had, it was the perfect ending. My sister's chocolate chip cheesecake was a generously sized slice and quite good. Two tips/things to note: 1) Parking is limited. There's a small lot alongside the building with 2 hour parking. Behind the building it seems like there are spaces, but some are marked "Unauthorized vehicles will be towed" so I wasn't about to chance it. Other than that, it's street parking. Usually not too much of a problem in Lowell, but still can be a pain at times. 2) I haven't been, so I can't comment on the quality, but they apparently do a Wednesday lunch buffet now for $11.95. I'm hoping to convince my coworkers to trek up here someday soon for this. read more

I don't understand all the high marks this restaurant has garnered. The food ranges from bland to entirely unseasoned. The last time I went I had a burger, which is simple enough to prepare, and the thing tasted like they'd done nothing more than throw some meat on a hot pan. I could have made a better burger at home! True, their food appears to be perfectly edible if you just need some sustenance--but when eating out and paying good money I typically expect my food to have a little more flavor. There isn't anything *wrong* with Cobblestones, but it isn't exactly appealing either. It's the sort of place you might want to take your great aunt if she has a dyspeptic stomach. read more

I came here on a rare, warm, Friday night to enjoy an appetizer and some drinks with a friend. We were seated outside, as requested, to enjoy the rare 77 degree day in March. The drinks were really good; my friend ordered two blueberry lemon drop martinis, while I savored the flavor of some Mango Mai Tais. For an appetizer, we ordered the Cobbleskins (potato skins), which were simply delicious. The complimentary bread was also very good. The service, however, was a bit slow. Granted, we weren't ordering a full meal and perhaps she gave us less than average service because of that. However, that's not an excuse in my book. For drinks and appetizers, we spent nearly $60, which is a bit for drinks and appetizers if you ask me! She barely checked on us; between the time we finished eating and drinking and the time she brought our check, was maybe 15 minutes. The tables aside of us, which each had a different server, had much better service. So I found the food good, drinks great, but service okay. read more

I have been to Cobblestones many times. From sitting out front at the bar for apps and cocktails while talking with friends with the game on in the background to Easter buffet to dinner with the family in the main room. The beer is always cold, the food is always great, the cocktails always generous and everyone has a great time. We celebrated my father's 70th last night at Cobblestones and it was a great night. There were 25 of us so we reserved the French Room ahead of time. It allows for a private dining experience with plenty of glass showing the main dining room so you do not feel isolated. Very nice. There were many menu options from the full menu, to a scaled down version of the full menu to a group menu. We chose the group menu and everyone was very happy with the choices. The Prime Rib was the most popular selection and everyone loved it. I had the Chicken Picatta and it was lemony and delicious. The guest of honor and mom had the Baked Haddock and there was not a morsel left on the plate. The group menu had a crudites to begin, a salad course with a very tasty tomato-herbed dressing, rolls and bread and butter and the entree selection. We had great service, they plated a cake we had brought ourselves (see the Cake. review I did!) and there was no plating fee charged and they complimented the plating with a dish of vanilla ice cream. Once again we had a great time at Cobblestones and my review is probably long overdue! I guess it is time to try Moonstones :-) read more

My girlfriends and I went here on a Friday night, with reservations. We were seated very quickly by the friendly hostess. The waitress, Blair, was very attentive, and totally awesome. For an appetizer, we ordered the PEI mussels and they were quite possibly some of the best I have ever had - my friend Jenn dared me to drink the left over broth, and I didn't - probably because I wasn't drinking that evening ;) I ordered the salmon with lemon evoo sauce with garlic mashed potatoes - it was cooked perfectly and I loved every bite. My friends both has the scallops in garlic cream sauce - one had the garlic mashed and the other had the maple glazed carrots- both enjoyed their meals immensely. Overall, a great time and I will definitely be back again soon! The bar was super busy the entire time we were there as well. read more

I visit Cobbles at least once a month. My favorites are the great oyster selection and fresh salads. I order the haddock a lot, it's always great. The French Onion soup is the best. My husband loves the chicken marsala. Best mojitos in the summer. Service is always good. I have been probably 20-30 times and never have I ever had a complaint. As for pricing, We normally have a few drinks each, half dozen oysters, two entrees and it runs about $100. (Sometimes we go CRAZY and it's $125). Eating in the bar is nice too, they have a great bar menu if you want it a little lighter on the wallet. read more

Stopped in for a few quick drinks on a Saturday afternoon. We sat at the bar, and the two bartenders were quite attentive and chatty. I think there are only two TVs, both of which were set to the same channel (but c'mon, it was the Bruins! So no problem there!) but it's not a sports bar, so I didn't find that to be a negative. The drinks were good & stiff, and fairly priced. The menu looked good - maybe next time I'll come to town a little earlier so I can get a late lunch. I went here for a wedding, so keep that in mind. The salads were okay, nothing to write home about, but generally okay quality. The chicken marsala was awesome.. and then dry as a bone. Possibly because it was made in such a big batch, but the dry piece didn't leave me wanting for more. (On the other hand, the one that was well cooked was quite delicious) Why they had scallops and penne pasta, I'll never be sure. The scallops were wonderful, but the pasta just didn't seem to go. My boyfriend and I love cobblestones. It is one of the best restaurants in lowell. When you walk in it feels like a historic victorian house, which gives you a comfort feeling. It is beautiful inside, and huge I might add. Private Dining Room : We have had the privilege of attending a rehearsal dinner in their Private dining area, and the space is perfect if you have a smaller group, and the food was delicious. Patio: In the summer we like to have a picture of margaritas and apps outside Bar: The bar is also great to have a drink and catch up with a friend, the bartenders are awesome and sweet. They are also attentive, and make great drinks. The upstairs Event Area: We have had events here and the space is awesome and I forget that we are in a restraraunt. Dining Area: Their dining area is also very nice and the servers are fast, and great. I love ordering the chicken Marsala, Nachos and for an appetizer everyone needs to try their Jumbo Shrimp it is to die for. Overall was a fairly dismal experience for one of the "higher-end" restaurants in the Lowell area. We came in for a reservation on a Monday night and were seated crammed in the corner of the completely empty dining room. The service overall was decent, but nothing spectacular. A few items had to be asked for repeatedly before they were served. The drinks were very good, the winter margarita was fantastic according to my date. My beer, the whiskey aged ale was very good as well. The appetizer we shared was the calamari, which was by far the WORST calamari I have ever eaten. It was completely dry and rubbery and had an off taste. It was barely edible. The entrees were good, I enjoyed the short ribs and my date enjoyed the scallops. The short ribs had good flavor and was nice and tender, the sides were acceptable. According to my date the scallops were excellent. The desert that my date had was very good. The desert was the rich chocolate cake. The reason for the poor review was nothing was note worth aside from the drinks and the tab of $115 for two seem fairly high for the service and food. Atmosphere is great! Cool old building! Service was spotty. Our waitress could not open the wine bottle we ordered so my husband had to do it at our table, she didn't take the foil top off before putting in the wine opener! :) The food was ok just not worth the prices. The cocktails also were just ok and our server didn't know the cocktail of the day and didn't bother to go find out when we asked. read more

Something about this place doesn't sit well with me. I love the old building, I love the location. They just don't seem to have a personality as a bar. I feel like they are trying to be fancy, all the while they are in Denille they are in Lowell. It's the closest bar to where I have lived for more than 5 years and I have only been like 5 times, it's not inviting. read more

I had always heard about Cobblestone's but had never actually gone in until about a week ago and I am glad I did. The place is really fun and the staff is wicked nice. I ordered a Moscow Mule and it was made amazingly, copper cup and everything. There is also a great selection of beers. For food I ordered the Vegetarian Chili along with a side of shoestring fries. The chili was fantastic. Super flavorful and somewhat spicy I will definitely be ordering it again. i would recommend this place if you are looking for some good food and a great drink to go with it. read more

Dropped in for appetizers and a couple of cosmos. Drinks were good and the home made soft pretzels were really great. The mussels we also great. But it ends there. We ordered a spinach salad to split and you would think they would put more than four leaves on each plate. The calamari was the worst we have ever ordered. Portions are really small. This is my family's go-to lunch spot after all the road races we run in the downtown Lowell area. I've only ever eaten in the bar/lounge area. They have a great variety for lunch from apps, salads (add chicken/shrimp/salmon/steak tips,etc.), sandwiches to full-size entrees. Although, recently my father ordered a California chicken wrap and they were all out of wraps so he had it on a bulkie roll. Who runs out of wraps?! The full-size entrees for lunch would be a bit much for me, so all I've ever had here is a salad with shrimp, chicken, or salmon added. Ingredients have always been fresh. I recently shared the truffle fries and had a a salad with salmon. The fries were shoestring, and I would have liked thicker cut fries, but after running a race they did the trick! Extensive beer and cocktail menu and average to above average service. We will continue to come back, and I'd come back with friends for martinis and apps in the bar. read more
