The hottest chicks in Lowell go here. Just bring earplugs because you WILL get earaped. I would suggest bringing ear plugs to any place that has music though because a lot of DJs become deaf to certain frequencies so while the music overall may not be dangerously loud the treble might be uncomfortably loud compared to everything else for example. I've never had the food but it looks and smells delicious and some nights the pool is free. if you're looking for a roomy, open concept bar to chill at, this is a great place, and PLEASE don't be afraid to mention them to turn down the music because even though everyone else is scared to speak up they will definitely be thankful. And don't be one of those people who thinks that Not blowing out your eardrums from loud music is uncool because guess what, being deaf is probably one of the uncoolest things you could do if you where blessed with the gift of hearing and then ended up losing it from being careless. read more

We ordered drinks with our card out and the bartender poured the drink then said it was cash only. Walked in to be identified by a woman who was an unpleasant and not welcoming in any way. Our group was told by friends to check the upstairs, we then looked around to find the upstairs where we found a door that led to the upstairs. Once we realized that the upstairs was not functional at the time we went back downstairs to be again yelled at by same security woman who rudely identified us saying "excuse me, was the door open, have you been here before". As we have not been there before we were greatly confused as the door was open and no signs pointed to it being closed. We then proceeded to the outdoor seating area where said security women kept checking on us as we did something wrong and continues to tell all her coworkers to keep an eye on us although there was nothing wrong. The Blue SCAMrock is the worst place to go if you want to "have a good time". The bouncer treated everyone in line as if they were a Hurd of cattle who were illiterate. When I tried to exit the line after an hour and a half of listening to him belittle us and being shoved in all sorts of directions, he put his hands on my shoulders and pushed me back into line, followed with screaming derogatory and disrespectful terms at me. To think that being called a "fa*got" is acceptable here makes me sick and to think he thought it was okay to put his hands on customers is absolutely sickening when they are doing nothing wrong. I came here to see a show tonight. Keep in mind I cane for the show. If I was a restaurant patron I would have walked in, walked out and perhaps the memory would have faded in time. Filthy, dilapidated, and just disgustapating. It's like an md college town five put together by a frat house on a dare. Plastic disposable cups, foam plates and the food. Is there food? No one really knew. No menu and rotating prices. They really didnt know if they had food! Eventually I got a hideous burger with semi good fries. Why the second star? The Blue Shamrock ... what can i say really? i went there w/ my friends Mike and Chris to hit an open mike, i think it's every Wednesday there ... casual, cool and uncrowded up until around 10 or so ... the whole time the ringerleader of the event takes up like 2 half hour sets playing 'Freebird' and fnckin' stoner music from the 70s mixed w/ a thinned out version of George Michael's 'Faith' ... stuff like that ... got a beer or 2 going at least ... good for the BS i guess Mike and i both get to do a 10 minute set at the most each ... then like this area band comes right at like 10 or 10:30 ... they bring a crowd which is cool ... but they play for a solid hour and a half ... the people love 'em ... 'Beverly Hills' and some of those new postGrunge dirtPop songs by groups you could combine and line up for a MexicanStyle execution for all i care ... superHappy ... no chance for anyone else to go up ... this IS after all an open mike evening according to the bill ... then these Weezer wannabes just get up and leave taking the crowd w/ them ... which is fine ... but ... i wouldn't recommend the open mike at The Blue Shamrock ... that's all i've gotta say ... read more

This bar is the pits. Two horrible experiences I had there: -Drinking their 'special' beer, Shamrock Suds. $1. It tastes like a wounded soldier that been sitting with a lemon rind it for a few days. So terrible I actually returned it for a Budweiser. -Hanging out with an extremely disabled (physically and mentally) man who required me to hold his SoCo for him as he drank it out of a straw. I don't have anything wrong with helping the handicapped but getting them drunk is another thing. Leon always likes to play pool at this bar when he comes to Lowell Folk Festival. They have two decent tables with lots of space to shoot. I've never been to Karaoke night but I'm sure it's scary (who's doing Limp Bizkit tonight?) If you are lady going here prepare to be surrounded by creeps. They do have outdoor seating and food, which I think isn't half bad. One one final note the front glass windows are usually smashed and covered by plywood. That's rough. read more

Where to begin ... the waitresses have little knowledge of serving alcohol but at least they are nice & friendly. Very small selection of draft and bottled beer, and they ran out of 1/2 the varieties after an hour so there weren't many options left. Server was trying to convince me to switch to lime-a-ritas but she let it go after I explained those were most definitely not a type of beer. The most annoying thing that happened is they told us there was a $15 minimum on cards. No problem, I tell the bartender, I'll probably leave a tip to cover the difference (2 drinks were $9). When it comes time to close my tab though it turns out that I can't leave a tip to bring the total up to $15 ... and it's past last call so I can't get another drink (which I didn't really want or need anyways). So no tip for anyone that night and the owner of this place who doesn't even take the time to stock the beer makes some extra cash for no reason. This really ticked me off. I went with a small group, and we did have fun. Lots of space around the pool tables and it's only $1 to play. They probably don't deserve 2 stars for that ... the juke box machine was temperamental too, the songs we paid for didn't get played. I absolutely love going here with my friends! My boyfriend has some friends in Lowell and we always come down to visit. When we're in the party mood our first choice is usually Shamrock! The downstairs is nice, but it's so much more fun upstairs once they open it. The drinks are inexpensive and overall it's just a great place to get tipsy and dance with friends. Definitely recommend going here if you're looking for a good time. Just make sure if you're going to bar hop , keep in mind they don't let you back in one hour before closing! read more

Gross, shady, seedy, think high school/early college. Sure there's a pool talbe. Sure there's a dance floor. Sure there's an outdoor smoking area. I went to an Afroman show the other night there and had one of the greatest nights of my life. The sound was excellent and everyone seemed to be having the same awesome experience. I have had nothing but positive experiences at this bar, the staff is really friendly now and there are some really good people who are regulars. I like that the place is always getting a little better, it looked like they just painted and cleaned when I went in the other day. There's beautiful women working there, and there's beautiful women at the shows and on the dance floors, I'm not sure what else you could ask for but a big place with two floors and an outdoor area to party or relax at with great people. read more

I've been to the Blue Shamrock a bunch of times. Some visits have been better than others, but 2 stars is pretty much the average. This bar tends to attract the thug-life types of Lowell. The dirty bumping and grinding that takes place can make for some good people watching, but it gets old pretty quickly. The drinks used to be big and cheap here , which was my main draw to the place in the past but as time passes, they seem to be getting smaller and smaller. I recently went here for a bit with some friends this past weekend, and it appears that they are trying to change their image. Instead of the booty-dancing and hip hop videos that used to play on the huge screen backdrop of the dancefloor, they were playing 80's music videos. They also put in some new booths including candles and all, where the tables and stools used to be. I liked the booths.. the music was odd and not- good 80's (Ratt power ballads, etc.) But the place was dead. I commend them for trying to spruce the place up a bit , but they need to change up the music. I'm not exactly sure what crowd it is that they are trying to cater to now, but I don't think it's going to work. read more

They have cheap drinks and I know some of the regulars here. If your looking for food you should probably look somewhere else. I went here a few times for pitchers of cheap beer (bud light) and whatever else. I've been here 3 times and it's alright for maybe ending the night here for last call. Aside from how it looks like a dive the bartenders here are surprisingly nice and helpful which is a plus. I've been to the club area upstairs (Gemstones) and it's alright depending on what's going on. Overall it's not a bad place but if your looking for a place to satisfy your drunken munchies you best be looking for somewhere else. I wouldn't even give this place a half star. There is many reasons not to like this place, but my main concern was being groped by one of the security guards. Never in my life have I ever felt more humiliated by this act, next to my concerns was the huge rat with red eyes. The AC also leaked constantly dripping into my drink and my hair. I've only been there a few times and each time has been very different. The first time it was for my boys 21st and it was moderately packed and the service and drink were okay but toward the end a bunch of cross dressers walked in and we left shortly after. The second time it was very mellow and got a few pool games in. The last time it was way over crowded and people were fighting tooth and nail to get to the club on the second floor. I am visiting from California, I am 27 years old, and I was not let into this bar because the door man said it was illegal to accept an out of state ID. He said by Massachusetts law he could not let me into the bar even after I showed him 5 credit cards and my insurance card. I was with a group of people who are from MA, and even after we called him out for lying (THIS IS NOT A LAW) he still stated we couldn't be let in. Even when we pointed out, that if this was a law, that would mean that MA wouldn't allow any tourists to drink in the entire state - they said "yeah that's the point, that's what MA wants". That's probably the most ignorant thing I've ever heard as 19 million tourists visit Boston alone each year - and sure as shit MA wants to make as much money off these tourists as they can. I walked in, and I know there is another place with cheaper beer down the road, but I thought to myself why not try this place out. My mistake... There is a 15$ dollar minimum they strictly enforce, which by the way is illegal. Legal minimum they can have is 10$. But a bartender, the really cute and friendly one, jumped at me swearing I ducked them over as soon as I swapped the receipts out. This is not an issue in most bars at all, including in this state. As long as there is a filled amount and a signature, they should be fine. But she jumped at me, held my wrist as I was making my way out the door. I asked her, reprint it out, I'll rewrite it. But she shut out everything I had to say. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded coming back to this bar. I'm frequently in the area for two specific bars. The bartender that jumped at me, she was a doll; pretty, friendly and intellectual gal, I would of enjoyed coming back to this bar for a casual convo with her (of course tipping is implied). I would not really recommend this bar to anyone. First off, the place has a really grimy and dirty feel to it, like they dont own any cleaning equipment. However, the real reason is their horrendous staff. I have never received worst service anywhere else. The bartenders are rude, short tempered, and get their orders mixed up. I was charged for several drinks that I did not order. When I confronted them about this, I was yelled at, told that they would not refund me, and that I was being an asshole. It was also obvious because I was completely sober and just happen to meet up with a friend for TWO drinks! These people cannot even do the basic requirements for their job! If I could give a lower rating I would. I usually love this place but went here last night with some friends and were waiting at the upstairs bar for over 30 minutes. There were about 5 other people waiting at the bar extremely irritated. There were about 7 girls bartending and they were standing around, taking shots and taking selfies. When I asked for my drink one of the girls gave me a huge attitude. She proceeded to tell another bartender and they pointed right at me and gave me a disgusting look. I said to my friend "don't give her a good tip" and she proceeded to get me kicked out of the bar...for literally not wanting to give her a good tip because she was rude. I am not sure where to begin with describing what a sucktastic experience the Blue Shamrock was for us. I'm in a band that was booked to do a show there on a Friday night. From the website photos, the place looks great. Actually being there is a far different story. From the band "gig" end, the promoter was a tool of epic proportions, but I will try to separate his douchiness (such as letting us know when we got there that the headliner canceled because they were "stuck in traffic in NYC" - because really - a band was coming from NYC JUST to play this shit hole? I tend to doubt it, but I digress...) - as a patron of the "club", I had researched it to see if they had food, etc, as we had friends coming to the show, and planned to meet there shortly after we loaded in at 7:00, then grab a bite to eat. According to the website for The Blue Shamrock, they have a pretty sizable menu of pub fare - lots of appetizers, burgers, seafood, etc. - Well, after securing my gear upstairs, my girl and I went downstairs to get a table and order a drink and look at the menu while we waited for our friends to join us. It was almost 8:00pm, and there were maybe 5 other people in the bar - one of them, already passed out with his head on the bar. Still, it took the bartender about 10 minutes to acknowledge our presence. Then, when she did, and we asked her about if they were serving food, she said "I don't know. Nobody tells me anything.}, then she rolled her eyes and said she'd check. She came back to inform us that they only had chicken wings and chicken tenders. We left and went around the block to some Texas themed BBQ place, had our friends and the rest of the band meet us there, and proceeded to drop close to $200 on drinks and tips that we'd have spent at The Blue Shamrock, if they'd had their shit together. Then, when we got back to the club and went upstairs during the opening act's set, I went to the bar to get a beer. The crack whore looking bar maid was too busy talking with her friend in the corner, and acted like I had just ass raped her gramma when I asked her to get us a round of drinks. It pretty much stayed like that, until we finally got to our set, and happily left as quickly as possible, wiping our feet on the way OUT as to not get any of that place on the rest of the world outside. read more
