We get takeout from Jon Ryans Pubs (yes it's PUBS with an s - maybe cause there's a second location in Billerica) and we are always pretty solid last night we ate in and it was similar. This time I had the burger (I almost always have the country chicken-which has to be one of the better values you can get in terms of portions for the $). My girlfriend had the steak tips and we shared the chicken and loaded wedges app. As we've come to expect, everything was good - but the fries that come with burger were excellent and they didn't skimp on them which is great! Our server was Mark, he was okay but you could tell he was busy trying to finish stuff up because we were there at the end of their working day. Overall, this place still brings it, which is why it gets mobbed some times. I should say, I wish people were a little more forgiving with their reviews...it's 2025 and you do have to adjust expectation for prices somewhat...this place is a much better value than the 9's and we should be happy they are still in business! read more

So went with the Lollipop Martini it was good Got the nachos- loaded with queso which was awesome so all chips had cheese. Pretzel sticks where soft and delious. The chicken bacon ranch wrap was good could have used a bit more ranch was alittle dry. Fries where crispy, but a bit on the salty side. Waitress was friendly, but alittle slow. Everything!!!!! The service was almost to a T!!!! From beginning to the check being presented and picked up. A warm ,sincere goodbye was given to us. The food was excellent. Not to mention the ambiance was not too loud and the place was spotless. The hosts held the door open for us as we left and asked us " How was your dining experience tonight? I came in for lunch and ended up talking to the owner about needing a new roof. It was a great experience. The atmosphere was awesome and the food was excellent. Who knew going out to lunch would be a good and a show! LaJarvis at the bar was amazing. We played TouchTunes and he had some special moves. Food was yummy and fast. I had the fried shrimp. When this place first opened I thought it was delicious. Very similar style food as the 99s and other places like that. I came back here a year ago and just got a simple burger and the burger was extremely greasy and well done when I didn't ask for it to be. The fries tasted great and some of my friends meals looked good. Service was still excelent and uncomplanable. Our server was cracking jokes with us and made us feel extremely welcomed. Excellent service and good food. 6 of us went for a 21st birthday. We had lobster rangoon and two types of spring rolls for apps, Buffalo chicken Mac and cheese, filet mignon, pork chops and sirloin steak for entrees. Everything was delicious. A very nice night out. Decent food. Not the most interesting menu. It's pub food but nothing original. Nachos are pretty fantastic with queso and melted shredded cheese. Option to have them in a tostada bowl is great. Love them. Decent beer and wine selection. Mixed drinks and featured drinks are pretty good. Fish and chips are just ok. Turkey dinner is unremarkable. Champagne vinaigrette dressing is so gross. It is promoted as their signature. It's also a dated choice. Nothing on their menu that is truly innovative or interesting. I absolutely can't stand the standard blah food at the 99 but if it wasn't for the nachos, drinks and fun bar scene at John Ryan's I'd be happier at the 99. Some reasons I'm not happy with the management, kids menu is pricy. 7.69 for chicken fingers and mozzarella stick combo and doesn't include a drink. When a kids meal for a 6year old is nearly 10.00 that's too much for my family of 5. Then when trying to use a Valpak coupon from the app they refused to take it. John Ryan's advertises on Valpak but I was told it must be a printed copy. Funny, the app doesn't have a printing option. I use the Valpak app at several locations often and have never heard the rule, "Massachusetts state law, it must be printed". There is an Apple Pay option on the app as well as scanning ability. Meanwhile our bill was for 56.00. Coupon was for 5.00 off 25.00 or more. So for 5.00 they felt strongly enough to not honor a coupon that they pay to promote?? My next issue. In the past we've visited on, "kids eat free" night. We had three adults and three kids. One adult, a vegetarian ordered the dinner salad and an appetizer. The cost for this meal was higher than the pasta dish of another adult diner. However, when the bill came only 2 of the 3 kids actually ate free. Each adult must purchase from approved items. It also doesn't include kids' drinks. I should also mention 1.69 for a children's drink is kind of pricy. If they are hoping to bring in more families, their kids pricing is not helping. read more

I live 5 minutes from this location and I wish I figured out this place was as good as it was sooner! I got the firecracker shrimp with a side of fries and wow was it delicious. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and the spiciness was on point! The fries were delicious. Crispy but soft and so good! My boyfriend had the chicken pot pie and that was so good also! The wait staff is totally unprofessional and immature. We left at closing time and were chatting in the parking lot when the wait staff went outside and did their "nightly ritual " which consisted of throwing all the half empty drinks on my friends brand new car. Upon walking on the other side of the car we noticed it was dripping wet with liquid. They pretended as if they were just pouring them out when in reality they were throwing them on the car. Disgusting behavior and I will NOT be back to this establishment. read more

Went there earlier tonight with my girfriend and got a food menu, but no drink menu. When the waiter came over i asked him and he said they didn't have any drink menus. First tried Jon Ryan's soon after they opened, very unimpressed. Similar to a 99 just poor quality. Went back a couple of years later, still not impressive. Interior looks the same when it was Pickadilly Pub. Lighting is very bright. Will go to the 99 in town over Jon Ryan's. read more

My burger was the best part of my dinner at Jon Ryan's. After having driven past probably hundreds of times, I'm glad I finally stopped in. A few things about dinner were a little off, but overall it was enjoyable - they go slightly beyond pub comfort food here with additional fish and pasta dishes. Service is great and friendly. The atmosphere is a little bit bar, a little bit pub, a little bit tavern, a little bit restaurant, and a lot of paneling. They don't have a beer menu, but a bar drinks/wine menu is available on request, and the waitresses have the list of beers memorized (a lengthy but conventional list). The menu is straightforward with a good number of pictures. We started with a bowl of artichoke-spinach dip, served with fried tortilla chips. The dip contained a lot of spinach and large chunks of artichokes. You should definitely share this dish, because the fried chips are very filling. One person ordered the turkey tips, which were good, accompanied by rice (okay) and squash. The squash was heavily spiced and sweetened and tasted like sweet potato pie filling. I ordered a bacon Swiss cheeseburger, medium. It came out medium-well, but that was the only deviation. And now for the most interesting compliment - it was by far the absolute best bacon I have ever eaten. The burger itself is a good size, and lettuce, tomato, and red onion come with it normally. I would have liked the fries to be slightly less greasy and slightly more crisp, but I appreciate that they were definitely prepared in this kitchen. I do have one beef (pun intended) about one burger description on the menu. The burgers are advertised as choice Angus beef, which is fine. But there is one burger listed on the menu as a "Prime Steak Burger." So I asked the waitress if it really was made from prime cut steak. She asked in the kitchen, and she reported that all the burgers come from the same beef, with an appropriate amount of fat (which is the way a good burger should be). I was satisfied with the answer, and as I mentioned, I did enjoy my burger. I feel the practice of listing a burger as "Prime Steak" is a little deceptive. But if you love bacon, order the bacon cheeseburger. read more

Thursday night 2/26/15 Came here after terrible service ex at skybox bar in tewksbury Anywho what a difference in service! We were seated immediately by a very pleasant server who took our drink order and had the drinks to is in three minutes! My Mac and cheese burger was delicious all ingredients fresh. Driven by this restaurant for years and decided to finally you try it tonight! Our waiter was John whom I must say was very passionate about the Restaurant and it's by and far highest quality of "Fresh "Food"! I got the California Veggie Burger (which is "fresh-made" on-site) Delicious!!! My wife got the Haddock Nantucket which John said all the Fish comes in Fresh Daily and is always made to order. (PORTION SIZES NEED IMPROVEMENT) Must say the food quality was Superb! (Portions were a bit small for my appetite but quality made up for it. Again, our waiter John was a perfect model of how waitstaff should meet, greet and educate the customer... Very impressive service! read more

Ordered takeout lunch from there. The food was decent, nothing to write home about, and over priced. They also added on charges for the container in which the food was packages and a "local tax" which according to my research doesn't exist in the town where the restaurant is located. The 2 bogus charges added another 6% onto my bill. Their offerings are expensive enough they should be ashamed of themselves nickeling and diming their customers like this. It goes without saying I won't be going there again and I will recommend anyone talk to avoid them as well. I hope their happy with their greedy money grab, it made them a few cents but cost them a customer. read more

unfortunate to have to leave a review like this, butt here we go anyway.. the only thing saving this review from being 1 star was the food. The food was excellent. We shared appetizers and they were good portions and great flavor. The unfortunate part of our trip was the experience we had. I went with a coworker after work and right from the start we could tell sitting at the bar would be an "experience". There was one bartender taking care of the entire bar AND the side tables next to the bar. The wait was far too long for just appetizers and drinks. When the meal was finished, we asked the bartender for our check. He said no problem and continued what he was doing. 5 minutes goes by and still nothing, we ask again. He apologizes and says I'll get that right now. Low and behold he forgets yet again so we sit waiting again for the check. When he finally brings the check over, we decide to split the check down the middle. When we receive the completed checks to sign, we realize he ran the SAME CARD TWICE! What a nightmare. Rather than trying to fix this, we figure it was easier to just leave and forget Job Ryan's pub. I won't be returning to this restaurant again. I will however suggest training your staff to do their jobs- do them right. read more

When we moved to North Billerica a little over year ago, we found Jon Ryans and gave it a shot. I wanted to like this place, I really did. It was OK, nothing great, had a couple of decent beers on tap. Burgers were nothing spectacular, but not bad either. We have been back at least 6-8 times and after last weekend, never again. The food is getting worse and worse. I ordered the grilled swordfish and it came out raw. They took it back and reheated it, but it tasted funny, or I just couldn't eat it. We have had the steak tips and the ribeye, again, just ok if they are cooked correctly. The biggest gripe I have is their promotion of "fresh is the standard" Fresh what? The decor is certainly not fresh, they replaced the dusty wreaths hanging since 1992 with fake spring flowers in silly bouquets. The food is far from fresh. The fish from the other night was not fresh and if you want to claim freshness, start with your veggies. "seasonal" vegetables have been the same for the last year, limp canned green beans, pureed squash, yuck! And now they are opening at the Manning Manse in Billerica. I hope they don't just bring along the same tired menu and actually try to do something different in there. Let me make a suggestion, take a ride to the Newtowne Grill in Billerica. Order their steak tips with the grilled vegetable medley. YUM! Now those veggies are fresh. Oh and another thing you advertised in the beginning that you do not do, but Newtowne does, change your tap beer once in a while. Bullshit statement! It has not changed once in over a year. So happy you can get chicken tenderloins as dinner now. A must try adults or kids!! A couple changes to note after dining here again this weekend. 1) John Ryan's is slowly starting to make renovations to the restaurant. The row of wood booths on far side of restaurant are now brand new booths with vinyl seating. Looks like they are going to re-panel the existing walls. One set of walls was now covered up with new walls. Will make it look much more clean, modern and up to date. Let's pray they do that God awful plaid rug too. 2) They have nixed the large nightly specials list. No more specials at all. They simply offer all fresh ingredients no matter what you order. One note for the chef's (hoping they read the Yelp boards) careful on plating burgers. They got temps reversed on burgers at our table. One person got the medium rare burger who should have gotten medium well. Very family friendly place. It was loaded with families on a Saturday night. So bring those kiddos along with you if you can't get a sitter. read more

I like this place. First of all, they accommodated us coming right at the kitchen closing time (the bar stays open one hour later) on a Sunday night. I expected to be kicked out the door, not realizing the kitchen was closing until we showed up, but they were very nice and didn't rush us to order. The food is good. I wish there were more options, the menu is kind of small. I also don't understand why they make steak nachos but don't offer regular or with chicken? They give you free homemade potato chips which are tasty, and remind you you are not at a chain restaurant, which is nice. I haven't really tried the drinks menu, so couldn't tell you! read more

My husband and I decided on a night out for dinner. We normally go to the same old place -- nothing new. We found this place and decided to try it out. The places was empty -- but being a Monday 5:40PM it was ok! Rick loves mozzarella sticks -- and so do I so we went with that! As well as the pretzel sticks, because those are just awesome!! They came out --- and oh boy they were AMAZING!!! Just so great!! I chose the fajita salad and my husband chose his favorite a chicken parm. My salad was perfect, the chicken could of been a little bit warmer but the salad and the bowl and everything was great!! His dish was in a bowl, that is so strange because there was a lot of food and in order to cut the chicken he had to use the side of the bowl. He likes sweet sauce and this sauce was chunky and tangy...but still okay! We will go again for sure!
