This place is great for a business dinner. I had the bolognese and it was fabulous. Everyone's dinner came out in reasonable time and everyone seemed very satisfied with their meals. The drinks selection was ample and the bar area was really nice to just sit and have a relaxing drink before your meal or if you just wanted to do apps and drinks. My only complaint really was some off putting smells - the menus had a smell of varnish to them and there was a smell that was reminiscent of decay in the dining area. We started with drinks .... Martini's were well made....wine selection was adequate. For appetizers, we tried the ribs, jumbo shrimp and two different types of oysters. All were excellent...especially the ribs...melt in your mouth good! Entrees...I had the special for the evening...petite filet and lobster mashed potatoes and asparagus. Very, very good...steak was cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes had the lobster claw meat in it and I believe a bit of bisque for flavor. My date had the sword fish ... Once again...excellent...lite and the accompanying sauce was tasty. Another of our party had the rib dinner ... Very good as well. The presentations of all the dishes were classy and clean. My husband and I are frequent here. We really enjoy the atmosphere, we love the outdoor patio and most of all the service! We have befriended the bartender! Who doesn't love their bartender! Liz is awesome, she's always so friendly and super cool!! All the food is great...except...the fries...they are our least favorite ever! After living in the Lowell area for basically the last 12 years, I finally made my way over to Cobblestones last night with my husband for dinner. I hadn't really heard much about them in the way of how good they were other than live entertainment on the weekends and that people hung out at their bar - so I had no expectations going in AND we had a $100 gift certificate, which allowed us to sample from 3 courses. Before I get into the food - I have to say that our waiter (Tom) was fantastic. He had great knowledge of the menu and offered honest opinions of the food when we asked. He was prompt and attentive without being overbearing. If we went back, we'd see if he was available for sure because we enjoyed having him as our waiter. My husband said he's one of the best waiters we've ever had. Now the food. We each got a "spirited drink" which was a special treat for us. Hubby got a mojito and I ordered one of their specialty drinks - a Peanut Butter Cup Martini. It was made with peanut rum (which I'd never heard of) and chocolate liqueur. It was fantastic - smooth with no burning on the rum, and the peanut taste was subtle and not at all artificial. They added a chocolate syrup drizzle on the bottom which was a nice touch. For appetizers we got the fried brie which came with garlic bread & a raspberry reduction drizzle and the fried calamari that came with some sort of dipping sauce (whose name I can't remember) that had a pickle & pepper taste to it. The brie was awesome - its integrity wasn't compromised by deep frying it and it wasn't soggy at all. It was creamy & delicious the way that brie is supposed to be. The calamari was also good - a light tempura-ish breading with black pepper - but I missed the marinara sauce to dip it in. The sauce provided was fantastic for what it was, but I'm personally not a pickle person so I didn't like it. I'm sure if I had asked for marinara or some other sauce, I could have gotten one - so that's my fault. Dinner next. Hubby ordered the Chicken Marsala. I had a bit of the noodles to try the sauce - the sauce was amazing. Not overly wine tasting, just the sweet marsala taste and thicker but smooth & creamy. I didn't try a bite of his chicken, but he cleaned his plate so it must have been good. I ordered the Macaroni & Cheese. Why did I order such a simple dish? Because it had bacon AND peas in it. I love mac & cheese with peas, and bacon is a huge bonus. This was some of THE BEST mac & cheese I've ever had. The bacon was crispy but not burnt and NOT soggy at all. The peas were crisp & green, and the dish was topped with fried onion strings that just added an extra bit of crunch and flavor if you caught one in a bite. The cheese sauce itself was super creamy, not at all grainy, and made of at least cheddar & monterey jack cheeses - as well as a few others (per the knowledgeable waiter we had). It was to die for... if you're here and you're a mac & cheese fan - GET THIS DISH. You won't be disappointed. Last - dessert. We ordered a slice of their pie of the day (peanut butter pie) and their signature bananas foster. The pie was fantastic - it wasn't too rich, which is always a danger with a PB pie, and the crust was a chocolate cookie crust that didn't get soggy with the pie filling. It was topped with chocolate drizzle and I could have just had that myself with NO sharing. It was that good. The bananas foster was also tasty and served a bit differently than we were used to. It's served in an ice-cream sundae format in a sundae glass with the caramel at the bottom, vanilla ice cream on top of that, topped with the bananas and whipped cream. It was quite good - basically what you'd expect from a bananas foster. I ordered a cup of their decaf columbian... and it was pretty standard coffee. The ONLY reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is the decor. It's in an older building and I think as a result they're trying to maintain the feel of the era it was in, but it definitely felt dated. Very clean & comfortable - but dated. The first thing I noticed when we entered the main dining room was that you can still smell the faintness of cigarettes from years and years ago when smoking was allowed in restaurants. Granted - that smell goes away once you're in there a minute or two and get food under your nose, and it wouldn't stop me from going again - but it's there. The other thing was when I went in the bathrooms... the wallpaper was mustard yellow with tigers & pineapples. It was the ugliest wallpaper I had ever seen. Awful. Having said all of that - Cobblestones is very clean, so while their decor could use an update I would not hesitate to eat here again. read more

Had my daughter's baby shower at Cobblestones in July. Everything was fabulous. We needed to change the date at the last minute which also meant less people, and the staff was so understanding. This is a really nice New-England-Fancy restaurant in the heart of Lowell. It has that quaint New-England vibe to it in that it's in an old building which has different rooms, old wooden floors and trim - old walls - and older setup. It's quaint; there's a little bar room off to one side, another private room you could use for a private party, and the main dining area. Service and food was great. It's your typical New England fare - short rib, half-chicken, mac n cheese, etc. I had the pork 'osso bucco' which is slow rosted pork shank still on the bone. It was very good but a bit too salty for me, and I like salty foods! They had a crispy-pork-skin appetizer, but I'd pass on that one. It's tough to eat while remaining classy in front of your date! Mixed drinks were OK. I had to have them hold off on muddling fruit into my old fashioned. I hate when they do that! Desert was awesome - we had some kind of indian pudding thing - I can't quite remember, and their deserts aren't listed on their website! Parking was a mess - they have a tiny lot next to the restaurant, and it's one way - so it's impossible to get out of! But - we managed. Nice place. It was a neat old building (Mill) but had a weird smell (smelled like Halitosis) the good news was after a while you got use to it. I was with a large group of friends and was able to sample a lot of items. Buffalo Tenders (Amazing), Truffle Fries (Good), Calamari (Great, but small portion), Cajun Blackened Prime Rib (Good), (Horseradish), garlic whipped potatoes (OK) and Asparagus (Good). I've never sat in the dining room, always in the bar, so I can't speak to that dining experience, but the bar area is a great place to be. Its got some of the best "bar" food around, although you can order off the entire menu. The only problem is there is just not enough seating. Was in search of a place in the Greater Lowell area with a solid oyster selection and Cobblestones was that place. These savory delicacies served on the half shell were fresh and meaty. My steak was cooked perfectly, although my sauteed spinach was closer to average. Drink list was extensive and I was excited to find a place with Anchor Steam on draft. We were in town for business and coming from the NY area and having eaten earlier in the trip in Boston we had low expectations in this relatively small city. The service here is good. Very friendly staff, except for one woman. We came for brunch and I ended up being disappointed with what I ordered. I ordered the steak tips and eggs. I asked for the steak to be cooked medium, but after cutting into the meat, I found that it was barely cooked at all. The eggs were covered in cheese. So much so that I couldn't eat half of them because I felt like I was just biting into cheese. I definitely wouldn't recommend this dish. Booked a last minute reservation for 9 on Saturday evening. We were promptly greeted & escorted to our seats when we arrived. That's where the good stopped. The restaurant was not full. Not even close. The waitress came to the table and asked if we wanted water, but wouldn't take drink orders. Then we didn't see her- or the water for 5 minutes. When she returned, she took drink orders, but said she would be back to give us the specials. 10 minutes later 2 of the 3 ordered drinks arrived. She apologized that the bar was busy and ran off again. 10 minutes later the 3rd drink arrived and she took an appetizer order. Apps arrived, but the waitress didn't reappear until they were almost done. Then she read the specials- including an appetizer special that she hadn't told us about prior to ordering/eating the apps. We went around the table ordering.... first person ordered a steak, but the waitress was "so sorry the kitchen is out of mashed potatoes. Would you like fries with your steak?". Next person orders prime rib. "I'm so sorry, the kitchen is out of prime rib. Would you like a steak instead?" But then they ran out of Brussels sprouts. So, "would it be ok if you had a vegetable medley instead of Brussels sprouts?". Craziness! All orders in, we wait.... and wait. With barely a peep from our waitress except for her sporadic "im so sorry, it's just that the kitchen is slammed. Your food will be out in a minute" visits. The first 3 dishes arrived. 2 minutes later the next 3 dishes arrived. Then-- nothing. Again an apology for the delay. Well, first 6 dishes were getting cold so we started. 7 minutes passed and the last 3 dishes appeared. I suspect the waitress forgot to order them. Food in general, was just ok. Certainly not worth the prices. Dessert we ordered at the same time as some cappuccinos. But, they were out of creme brûlée. She didn't tell us this when handing our party of 9 the only 2 dessert menus that were left in the building. If you know something is not available, why not tell us ahead of time?? One disappointment after another. And no compensation from management for this. Bad customer service. read more

Hadn't been to Cobblestones in years and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Three of us went in on an off night for a few drinks in the bar and then dinner in the dining room. Beer selection on tap was top notch, and the service was great. Amongst the group we had sirloin steak, prime rib, and a scallop dish. All were cooked perfectly to order. Will be going back. The also do a comedy night once a month that I hear is a pretty good take. read more

The buttered rum cocktail was the perfect way to warm myself up in the bitter cold weather. I treated myself to their scallops. They were perfectly cooked and tender. Cobblestones has a nice atmosphere and good drinks, but it's expensive for what it is, and the service is painfully slow, especially in the dining room. I wish the menu had more variety, but the food I've had is good--just expensive. For a Nice Dinner in downtown Lowell, I like Centro better for both atmosphere and food. When I say that the service at Cobblestones is slow, I mean that on more than one occasion, I've wondered if the staff forgot about us. We missed a movie when we had budgeted plenty of time for dinner because of the slow service. I don't know what the problem is, but I hope they address it soon. read more

We dined here recently with our parents, and had a really lovely time. I had the short ribs, which was good, my hubby had the sea bass, and both parents had the filet mignon, which they said was very good. The dining room is on the formal side, although the dress ranges from casual to business casual. The bar is off in a separate room and was very popular. There was a little push for their sister restaurant, Moonstones, on their feedback card and brochure, which I believe offers more of a contemporary dining option. The dinner rates a good 3.5 stars, and bumping it up the dining experience to 4 stars because we had a wonderful server by the name of Holly. read more

Great selection of beer and the food is top notch. A little pricey but worth it. They have a great bar area featuring one of my favorite beers, Kentucky Bourbon Ale. My girlfriend and I usually stop in on a weeknight and order a few apps and some tasty beers to wash them down. So far we've tried the Blackened Jumbo Shrimp and their Wild Mushroom flatbread. Sometimes we'll get the steak tips which are also very delicious. The bartender could use some personality but other than that this place rocks. read more
