As an artist visiting from NYC to work at the Riverside Theatre, Cobalt treated us will excellent service from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. They figured out a way to get our party of 12 in last minute, and gifted us a free round of bubbles upon arrival. The food was delicious, and the entire team worked so hard to keep all their guests happy. I had the blackened Mahi Mahi and it was to die for! The house cocktails are delicious, with some really creative tropical flavor palates. Beautiful views of the ocean while you dine. The crowd is slightly older, as is the community, but the vibe of the restaurant is still fresh and new with something on the menu for everyone. read more

Very nice restaurant on the second floor of the Kimpton Oceanfront. Valet makes for easy disposition of our car. Large floor-to-ceiling windows with soaring ceilings highlight a very open and inviting feel to the very broad and spacious dining room. Easter Sunday buffet. Lots of choices, including steam tables full of breakfast foods, large wild-caught steamed & peeled shrimp, carved-to-order beef tenderloin with a couple of steam trays of vegetables, an omelet station, a surprisingly-tasty nacho bar, and an entire dessert line with fresh-made Bananas Foster and a number of delightful pies. We enjoyed a very relaxing meal. Most of us chose to make multiple visits using several small plates and dined casually for a good 90 minutes, yet we never felt rushed by our attentive and efficient waitstaff. The shrimp were very well-prepared, and paired nicely with a delicious Caesar salad. The tender & tasty beef tenderloin was cooked rare. The potatoes and Brussel sprouts both held up nicely in the steam trays. The omelets were prepared exactly right: fluffy and stuffed with nice mushrooms and some crumbled sausage. The dessert bar had pecan & apple pie plus cheesecake, all 3 of which were a hit at our large table of family and friends. All-n-all, everyone agreed this Easter meal was spot-on and satisfied all of our fellow diners. Afterwards we enjoyed a leisurely stroll outside along the beachfront patio as we walked off our meals. Nice place. Nice meal. Nice waitstaff. A most-enjoyable Easter family lunch, and best of all, no one had to clean up. read more

Had a very bad experience here last week. Several of my friends were visiting from out of town. We decided to go on Monday for the "all day Happy Hour on Mondays". It wasn't very happy! We were told we could not have a table. Then they told us we could sit outside at the fire pit, but we'd have to go to the bar and basically serve ourselves. We weren't very happy, but proceeded to the bar to order. Then we were told we couldn't do that either. We asked for the manager. He told us we would have to sit at the bar for happy hour. There were 9 of us total. Besides not having room at the bar, we only came here to sit outside and look at the ocean. The food is mediocre at best! We asked the manager if he wanted all 9 of us to leave. He didn't seem to care. We will not be back until they get new management! read more

This evening I was denied a glass of wine at your bar, the Cobalt , because of an incident regarding the music being too loud that had nothing to do with my actions. Since I have Parkinson's, this created a tremendous amount of stress for me. I have spent many nights at the Kimpton resorts, in Aspen, Salt Lake City and New York over the years and I've never been treated so poorly. My daughter complained to URoy, the manager, because he stopped the music that was to play until 10 PM at 8:30 because of one patron who decided it was too loud in the restaurant section, which was absurd. This band has played at this establishment for three years. Patrons were enjoying the music. I am appalled by your manager's actions and I am deeply concerned about his disregard for my patronage when I had nothing to do with the incident. I feel your restaurant was incredibly discriminating. It's deeply disturbing and most concerning that this manager had the audacity to create such a stir over something that should never have come to pass. I am here but for a short vacation and Uroy has made my stay miserably disappointing. I will surely voice my opinion on any and all reviews regarding your restaurant and your management style. It is a very, very sad state of affairs for a wonderfully reputable establishment. You should reconsider your management hire. read more

Waited over an hour for entree and it was no where to be seen. Walked out. Service below poor. No body cared.

4.5 stars. Been here several times, perfect every time. Sitting outside on the deck over the ocean with incredible view so relaxing. Service always spot on. Very well maintained. Food all very good, everything we've had here. Great burgers and blackened fish sandwiches. We make sure to come here everytime we're in town. read more

Second not-so-great meal here. Waiter was new and told us he had "5 minutes of training". Slow to bring drinks, appetizers came first, didn't tell us the scallops were sold out until we ordered them and the charged a $35 corkage fee (we've never seen a fee that high even in much nicer restaurants). Food was good but not spectacular. Waiter had to bus his own tables - spraying and setting table next to us. Live music was a plus but unfortunately, I don't think we will be back. read more

I attended this restaurant with eight other ladies and the service was so bad we ended up having to leave they would not service! Fair and Honest review - Dinner last night for 2 - $360. 2 steaks, 2 sides each, one soup one salad, 2 deserts and 1 draft beer. The bad: Hostess - girl with long brown hair, not a good front face, seemed miserable. Thank goodness male hostess stepped up, friendly and cheerful. Food: Lobster bisque and Caesar salad - so salty, did not eat. The good: Octopus appetizer fantastic, steaks perfect but we had to specify hold the finishing salt crystals, mushrooms and broccolini great, mashed potato's great but cold, carrots so so - a bit raw. Cheesecake average, flourless choc cake average. Our service was excellent and waitress fantastic. Overall, glad I checked it out to learn I have had better food and equivalent steak quality at more affordable restaurants. Will add, the bartenders were attentive and personable! PS- The host asked if there was a special occasion. I replied our 34th anniversary- no special surprise so not sure if we were supposed to expect anything! Recommendation: stay with 1 side, portions are big, specify hold the salt. Steaks were still salty but not overly. Cheers!! read more

Had we been able to get in, I might have rated higher. Here at 11a, dining room essentially empty. Could not seat us until 1:30???????

Great breakfast The Decor was nice, and it is a great place to eat outside. I had the open breakfast sandwich, with the garlic challah bread. It was delicious. After checking in, I was able to get free truffle fries. Now I must say, these were some of the BEST fries I have ever eaten (I am very picky and have had a lot of different fries). I definitely recommend both dishes. The menu looks like it has several good options. So why only four stars? The service was slow. Normally I wouldn't judge on just one experience, but our friends said it happens frequently. Definitely worthy a visit read more

I rarely am impressed by the whole dining experience. I generally find a piece missing. Not tonight. It was a refreshing experience tonight at Cobalt. The menu wasn't the same as every other restaurant in this small town. The flavors were amazing. The cocktails, perfect. Jonathan our server was an absolute professional and took pride in his craft and care in our experience. Do yourself a favor, go and request him and enjoy. read more

Our hotel included continental breakfast at this restaurant. The continental breakfast ($14.95) included coffee, juice, fruit and a pastry. Limited for a 5 star luxury hotel. Aside from the substandard breakfast, the service was awful. No greeting, the waiters were not on the same page, the hostess was unprofessional and literally screamed 'I AM ONLY THE HOSTESS' while slamming water on our table and telling us we could get coffee OR juice, not both. The service was unacceptable. Wouldn't recommend. read more

I would have liked to actually sit down at a table at this place but never had the opportunity to do so. The 20-something hostess who was working on Sunday evening around 7:30 was so incredibly rude and arrogant. She told us that she could not seat us because it would back up the kitchen. There were clearly several empty tables but she refused to seat us. This place was recommended by a close friend who is a resident of Vero and frequents this place often but that changed last night. Why this place would hire such a nasty person with a bad attitude as a "hostess" is beyond me. Thank you Chris H for your quick response to my review. read more

Good kitchen. However, VERY poor staff training. Very poor. This is a Kimpton Hotel Restaurant and it serves like something far down market from that. Ordered drinks and water, the water came and 5 minutes later the server showed up to ask for our food order wtih no drinks in hand. Server fired our order way too quickly, delivering mains only a few brief minutes after starters, left the (hot) entrees and bid us to "take your time...no rush" ; asked us to move to accomodate his reach when there were infinite other options for him; plates were placed incorrectly and then clumsily adjusted; etc.. Drinks are pedestrian with an emphasis on fruit daiquiris and mojitos. Wine list is alright. Menu is good and execution is also good but the poor level of service kills the experience. read more

I am extremely disappointed in Cobalt adding a culinary gratuity surcharge to our dining bill. I am a restaurant owner/operator with over 20 plus years in hospitality and this is a horrible practice for a Corporation to use. This is nothing more than a ploy to pay your BOH employees a less than fair hourly wage and to have the guests be guilted into subsidizing your labor costs for your BOH employees. Industry standard is to put your labor costs into your menu pricing so that everything is fair and transparent, not for an additional gratuity/surcharge to be added to a bill for distribution to the BOH staff so that the company can pay them a lower hourly wage. It isn't a matter of the money, this culinary gratuity charge was only for $5.90, but it is the principle of the matter. I voluntarily tipped $100 to the server for a bill of $350 dollars, but I refused to pay this $5.90 "culinary gratuity" surcharge. Its the fact that a corporate entity is using this practice to not pay their BOH employees a proper hourly wage which I find reprehensible. It is also illegal to place a gratuity on any bill, unless it solely goes to the server and their support staff but instead they maintain it is a suggested gratuity, which is just a smoke screen to guilt the guests to pay this surcharge and still technically be within the law, which is a deceptive practice from any perspective. Nowhere on the bill that I was presented was it itemized as a "suggested" surcharge. I will never patronize anything in this company's portfolio while this practice is in place and those in the corporate hierarchy who started this operating practice know nothing about hospitality or how to pay their hard working staff an honest and decent wage. This is nothing but a deceptive practice to increase profits, pass the labor costs onto the guests and minimize paying their hard working employees. a fair wage Shame on them. read more

Nice resort bar/restaurant. Great view of the Atlantic Ocean from inside or the outside patio. We arrived too late for lunch but too early for happy hour, unfortunately their happy hour is actually only an hour long from 4:30-5:30. They had some nice specialty drinks and I must say their lobster roll was delicious, the burger was really good and so was the fish sandwich ( that day was swordfish) the truffle fries were yummy, thanks yelp for the free fries! Had lunch yesterday and was looking forward to since I've been here last in August. (Snowbirds) The food is still the same. Enjoyed it immensely on the patio. In addition to the menu you MUST ask for the "bar menu" and get as an appetizer or have as an entree,The Crispy Fried Rock Shrimp with Apple, onion, cabbage, sweet chili sauce...(not spicy) phenomenal!!! Was sooo good, as was the 8 oz. (?) "sirloin" burger, cooked med. rate as I love. No one was disappointed with the food....BUT HAVE TO TELL YOU, first time complaining here over the years. May seem petty but not. And it seemed like just us. Our lucky day, these things can happen. The WORST SERVICE by this one particular waiter...didn't know the name but he wore sunglasses and a lot of tattoos on the arms. Kept forgetting things, had to get his attention many times, he'd apologize and we noticed everyone after us were served. My sisters Crispy Fried Shrimp was COLD. (She never told anyone) Had to be just sitting there for some time. I had it as an appetizer and it was fine. Then the coffee came, no spoons or cream. After reminding him once it was another 15 minutes before we got them and the coffee was by then cold. I explained at this bill for 5 people not accepting cold coffee, the usual apology and in minutes had hot coffee arrive. It was just our lucky day, but after being seated it was 40 minutes to get the appetizer and over an hour and 15 minutes to get the entrees. This won't happen again as we'll avoid him. It was either his first day or he's just bad or the chef isn't crazy about him. That could screw you at the table. So beware of tattoos and shades!!! We'll be back as we love the place, but not him waiting on us. I still tipped him, but 15% instead of my usual 20% ....against my friends 10%....he still worked. read more

Cobalt - GREAT appetizer or as an entree BUT have to ask for the BAR MENU. Crispy Fried Rock Shrimp Apple, onion, cabbage, sweet chili sauce - New American Near Me - Vero Beach, Florida

I got a manhattan here during happy hour. It had almost no vermouth or bitters, and tasted severely watered down. I'd guess they used melted ice while making it. I could hardly taste the cheap (admittedly, that's what I requested) Bourbon through the ice melt. Reminded me of unsweetened tea with a cherry in it. You're paying for the atmosphere here, the bar program needs some work. Also got some sliders, they were good. read more

Cobalt is a real classy place to have dinner in Vero Beach. 1. The atmosphere. The hotel and restaurant are GORGEOUS. Well designed, expensive looking. We went on Christmas Eve (and a few nights before, but who is counting?) and the restaurant looked beautiful with a few Christmas trees and dim lighting. The first night we ate outside. You can't see the ocean at night, but they have firepits that are fun to watch and hang out around. The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous and comfortable. 2. The food. I really enjoyed what I ate. The scallops were so, so tasty. I'd also definitely recommend the farro salad. 3. The wine. Cobalt has a GREAT wine list. We sampled a number of wines over our two days there, and enjoyed all of them. I also ordered a sidecar from the bar, and the bartender happily told me I was the first person under the age of 60 to order a sidecar, which made me happy. #oldladypalette 4. The service. Both nights, the hosts and servers were excellent. We started the meal with complementary bread, and finished with a scoop of rum vanilla ice cream on the house. What's not to like there? Cobalt is a great place for a date, a special event, or just a memorable dinner. I've also heard good things about hanging out and eating a meal at the bar. Can't wait to go again when we come back to Vero in the future. read more

The only reason Cobalt is getting two stars is the view. Not too many other redeeming qualities. Went with five friends and after fighting for seats on the patio, getting blown with flames from fire pit, having to scramble and carry our chairs to our "spot" on patio, waiting for 15 minutes for drinks, another 15 minutes to order happy hour apps, was hoping dinner would redeem experience. Not so. Waiter was not a good representative for the chef. When one of our group was leaning toward ordering the duck, he noted it was his least favorite dish on the menu. Not a good advocate for the limited menu choices. The apps on patio were terrible. Why offer a happy hour app menu if you can't even make pork sliders and fried rock shrimp well?Poor shrimp...they didn't deserve that unsavory end. Plates chosen by our group were unimaginative and poorly plated. My personal choice was two small plates. "bacon and eggs" app was just ok. Pork belly tasty but poor cut and egg overcooked. Sauce as base was unimaginative. Second small plate was gnudo (gnocchi) with heavy cream sauce. Couldn't even finish the five of them. Soooo heavy. BTW, upset tummy all night and I can eat anything. Steak was boring, short ribs pretty good but not well seasoned, fish dishes ok but nothing out of the park. Dessert offerings again run of the mill. Prices did not reflect a commensurate quality of service, food or preparation. Normally don't slam staff but service was terrible. A definite no go! Take a walk on the beach and bring your own food if this is the only dining choice. Too bad. read more

We recently moved to Florida from Michigan, and went to Vero Beach to sightsee. We decided to try Cobalt, and we weren't disappointed. This restaurant is directly on the Atlantic Ocean. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit outside so we could feel the ocean breezes and hear the surf. Due to the Loggerhead turtles the lighting outside is provided by candles. We thought it was romantic and enjoyed the experience. The menu is small and the prices were at the top end of our budget. We started with appetizers and cocktails. My husband had the Angus Beef Sliders, Oysters on the half shell, and I had the bacon wrapped dates. Everything was delicious. They have a great happy hour with reduced cocktail prices and small plates of food. We did not arrive in time to take advantage of the happy hour. For our entrees my husband had the the Duck which came with potatoes and a vegetable. It was cooked to order and delicious. I had the Arctic Char, and would highly recommend it. We brought our own wine and paid a corkage fee. The waitstaff was pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We were too full for dessert, but decided on coffee at the fire pit. That was the perfect ending to our dining experience. The next time we are in Vero Beach we will definitely dine there again. read more

Always the same dry and expected food and service. Their only real attraction is the beach and their fire pit. The food is terribly tasteless and for the price one should expect more. Then there is the bar- just don't bother. read more

I gave this 4 stars primarily because of the setting, which is a stunning beach front patio. Their cocktail hour is legendary and crowded. As a result, it is often hard to get table service or another round of drinks, so double-up with your first order and get extra ice on the side. I am not a big fan of their food. When the wait staff is overwhelmed, so is the kitchen, in my experience. Indicating that booze is the main course (most profitBle) and food is the side show. But we go often, mostly shoulder or off season, when it is more civilized. Enjoy! read more

Very disappointing experience. It started with our server not knowing what the speciality draft was. We ordered it anyhow and when she came back, she stated "I think it is one of the IPAs". We never did find out what the drink was. Next, the dining room was empty and they seated a couple next to us whose child would not stop screaming. I cannot blame the restaurant for this, but it did add to the poor experience. Brought out our food-appetizer was ordered as main meal and specifically asked to be brought out as main-it was not. Steak was well done instead of medium rare-it was sent back. And to end the evening, a large roach (we were seating inside) was crawling behind my seat. I did flag someone down to crush it with their shoe, but nothing else was said about it. The whole experience was just negative. The only positive was that I enjoyed my salad and side dish. read more

I'm a big fan of Cobalt. I eat here several times whenever I'm in Vero Beach visiting family. I have to say that I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews. Maybe it's that I'm coming from Miami which is notorious for bad service and food served at expensive prices. I will say that I've eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner there several times and have always had an excellent experience. Menu is interesting and changes every few months. And the desserts are simply amazing. The butter popcorn ice cream with peanut butter something-or-other was out of this world. The dessert menu has the pastry chef's name on it. That's how renowned she is. Only complaint I have is the valet can be really slow and not particularly helpful. But hey, that has nothing to do with the restaurant. Definitely give it a try. read more

What a disappointment. My folks brought me here while I was visiting town, and I was excited by the potential. You can come here to enjoy the beautiful view and architecture, but it's all downhill from there. We came for their happy hour specials, which look good - on paper. The reality is that the attitude of the wait staff varies somewhere between icy indifference and outright hostility. No waiter or waitress should act like you are inconveniencing them when you are trying to place an order - but these people seem to take pride in it (I suppose at least they take pride in something). Expect to hold your empty glass with a longing look on your face for at least 20 minutes before anyone notices. Do not expect it to make a difference. I've been to places all over the world. I know what a busy place looks like, and I've worked in the service industry. A polite request for patience gets nothing but sympathy and support from me. But here, while waiting for my beverage, all I could do is wonder if the service here was an elaborate practical joke. The patio view of the ocean is great. But if your group needs more chairs so everyone can enjoy it, no one here will care. Nor will they care if you're waiting for service. When a bar/restaurant seems annoyed to serve you drinks they theoretically are in business to sell, you know there's problems from management on down. I am fairly easy to please and this is one of my first negative Yelp reviews. But no one should be treated with contempt by staff - and contempt here was palpable. If they didn't spit in our food, I'd be genuinely surprised. That should tell you something. Nature here is beautiful. Everything else sucks. read more

I love this place. Finally had to write a review that included our server; Ashley. The first time we came during happy hour she was personable, explained the menu without hesitation and made sure we were taken care of. Food was quick to arrive, hot and delicious. We got the pork sliders which we fell in love with. We told her that we were coming the next day to get the same thing and we did. We sat at one of her tables and after greeting us she asked if we wanted the same cocktails and food as yesterday which we did. I told her we wished that she was a waitress in our home town. If you get a chance you need to come here. Not only for the service, but the incredible out door patio and the best food ever. The first time we walked out because we thought we weren't dressed appropriately but didn't realize that just past the host station was an incredible patio So don't make that mistake. It was 1 less day that we missed out. It goes without saying I will be back. read more

We were driving down the coast to Palm Beach and decided to do dinner at Cobalt. Beautiful ocean front restaurant and a lovely hotel. We were greeted by a very nice hostess but that is were the fun ended. Waitress was rude and not attentive. Drinks were average and the truffle fries were absolutely disgusting. It was like they took the fries that were left over on the frier. They were drenched, soggy and overcooked. I would've taken a picture if they didn't take over 45 minutes to get us the appetizers and the sun had set. Wee started getting eaten by bugs. A group arrived a good 30 minutes after us and 2 waiters came to wait on them and no one even looked our way. The restaurant was pretty much empty and the wait staff and bartenders were just chatting on inside. At one point I had to go inside to ask for my son to get some more water. My fish was good which is why they get 2 stars but I really wished we had skipped the waterfront and gone somewhere where the food and service were decent.
