We made reservations because historically we had received excellent service and quality in the past for years for their Mothers Day brunch. First, we had a reservation at 7:30 and even though the place was half empty we waited 15 minutes past to be seated. The table was outside, is was not level and the chairs were very uncomfortable. The Cobalt is NOT for vegetarians or vegans. It never was but in the past the cauliflower steak was pretty good. With a new and different kitchen crew there is ZERO on the lunch menu for vegetarians while the cauliflower "steak" is, apparently, still on the dinner menu. After our waitress cajoled the lunch chef to make the cauliflower available for me I was hopeful. I also ordered french fries that were reputed to be "better than average" and a Caesar salad. The french fries and salad came out first. The fries were actually average or below. The salad was one of the least tasty Caesar salads I've ever had (and I've had thousands). If it was dressed, you couldn't tell; it certainly didn't have any taste of dressing. Then the main dish came out--the "Cauliflower Steak". It was the size of a baseball; it was not sliced like a steak, it was just a flower of cauliflower. It was burned on the outside and raw on the inside. It was accompanied by 3 baby carrots--also raw although they sat on or under the broiler for a half minute. There was a "sauce" over both--it was worse than tasteless, it was actually bad tasting. The cauliflower was $35. The Caesar salad was $13 and the french fries were $8. I felt angry when I left and now I just feel sad little the Cobalt cared about me. read more

I never review places so I want to start off with the rating system on here isn't complete. Out service was amazing and our food was descent at best. Took my wife for an overnight stay to an amazing resort in Vero and decided to do Cobalt. Bartender, server, and F and B director we're amazing! Got the tuna app tartar app, it was stellar. Unfortunately it needed up being the star. My wife got stuffed pompano and I got scallops. We don't have a great deal of money and this entire trip was a once in a lifetime scenario. To say the meal was disappointing is beyond an understatement. The pompano was supposed to be stuffed with crab and shrimp. Literally was stove top without any seafood. My scallops, my favorite Fn dish!!! Looked like a steamed attempt by a second day culinary student. I never send food back but I just had to. Ended up coming back but but still not cooked properly. The portion was even smaller and not taken off or reduced from the bill. There was a small dinner party going on in the other room and I understand how this works. The entire focus was placed on that group so we were overlooked by the kitchen. However, who works garde manager there!!! I salute you. Tuna app and my wife's dessert was on point and amazing!! But when you drop $150 you should expect much more than we got. Truly not trying to be a dick but seriously with these scallops?? We will not return but this is a lesson learned. You get two and they are giant, I only finished one of them! Would highly suggest you order them! Happy hour was cool too they had a few beers and wines on special. I got the Chardonnay it was good not spectacular but good. Also ordered the pork belly, greens and rock shrimp. Of the three I would highly recommend the pork belly! Beautiful setting and our food was good but extremely overpriced for what you get and the restaurant has a very corporate feel. We sat on their outside patio that has a great view of the ocean. We had a weather issue and had to move inside and lost half of the seafood tower we ordered. For $95, it would have been nice if they offered to replace even a small portion of it, especially since we heard the staff commenting about seeing us deal with getting swarmed by flies and gnats and doing nothing until our waitress came by. I don't hesitate to spend money on a great meal, but everything here is a la carte and isn't worth the exorbitant price. Here on December 26th 2018 with Dottie and her sister Kathy. Today was a brunch menu and as always, enjoyed the entrees and dining outside on the patio overlooking the ocean. Great spot for so many years. Have taken so many people here and here we are, once again after Xmas. The Chicken & Waffles was a nice surprise. Will ask for more biscuit gravy next time. Wow! This is just what we were looking for. Incredible views, amazing food, great cocktails and friendly service. I made a reservation on open table and mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday. When we arrived to check in the staff wished the birthday girl a happy birthday and later brought out dessert (all with only the prompt for the open table note), which I find super impressive. I've only been to this place on Vero Beach: Food is good. The rock shrimp is good--fried and sweet. Grilled fish taco--good (little chewy), Hummus (skip it--boring and over-salted), veggie burger--very good, truffle fries (good), pickles (good flavor but not crispy) Several of these dishes are part of happy hour and I think are priced accordingly at happy hour ($3-$4) versus higher prices later one. Drinks were strong and lots of choices for happy hour (picture is below). The seating is good. You can overlook the ocean (the patio railing is a little high and obscures the view a little) so it's not the best view but it is good. I would be back for happy hour! I've been here a handful of times to get after dinner drinks outside. I love the setting out there - you can't beat sitting around a fire pit and listening the ocean! The drinks are always great but the service is usually pretty bad. I've been there at times were I've been greeted immediately and other times were I feel invisible. We had a 3 night 2 day stay at the hotel in August and went 3x for breakfast, once for happy hour. (Make sure you get your continental breakfast coupons from the front desk if they come with your stay!) One breakfast we splurged and tried some entrees - the Cobalt Omelet and Roasted Red Pepper Scramble were both amazing (and I'm a sucker for anything with breakfast potatoes...which were awesome). The two continental breakfasts were great as well. Probably the best croissants I've ever had. For happy hour, I had a fish taco - that was actually near the bottom of my fish taco list all time (plenty of better ones here in Richmond). Yesterday morning we called to confirm a reservation made earlier in the week. We reserved a table for 4 people outside at 6:30 PM. We also asked about dress code! No problem. We arrived at approximately 6:20 and went to check in! We were then told that the reservation was for 6:45? The maitre d told us we could go to the bar. We entered the bar area and there was only 1 empty table which was not cleared, we sat down at 6:23. My wife went to the bar and ordered 2 drinks! Still no on came to the table to clear or take a drink order! At approximately 6:35 a bartender came and cleared the table. At 644 we went back to check in and we're told that there were no tables outside and no reservations were held after 5:30 which the maitre"Why were we not told this before?" Meanwhile our wives went outside and saw a table for 8 that was unoccupied and reserved? We were told the party had 6:30 reservation! We informed the manager that you told us no reservation could be held after 5:30? We ended up being seated at the table! On a positive note our server was Winston and he made the evening a little more acceptable! Congratulations to Winston! Too bad the manager did do the same! You can rest assure that we tell our many friends here in Vero Beach they should avoid this restaurant! We would hope that management would get their act together! I enjoy meeting up with friends here. The view is beautiful and it's a fantastic atmosphere. The Happy Hour offers a discounted price on a few wines and beer. The Cosmos look yummy but I haven't had one, yet. The HH menu offer small plates and the Black Angus Sliders are very good, small but good! A very relaxing place on the beach, gorgeous! Several kids walked thru the resturant while were eating on 2 different occasions, I'm guessing their families stayed their, but it took away from the ambiance. I got the mahi mahi my girlfriend got risotto it was okay, nothing special yet very expensive. My husband and I just enjoyed the most delicious Thanksgiving brunch dinner here in 2022. It was outstanding. The attention paid to every little detail showed. The turkey was tender and moist and all the sides were excellently prepared. Over the years and for various reasons we have not been able to do a family dinner, however by far Cobalt exceeded all my highest expectations. This was our second visit to Cobalt. First was in 2018and everything about lunch was excellent . Today (March 26, 2021) was very disappointing. Our lunch reservation outside was our first disappointment. The outside table didn't have an umbrella so we could not have shelter from the sun. The staff suggested that we walk to the neighboring restaurant, Heathons , that had shelter from the sun and had the same menu . The staff neglected to call ahead to see if tables were available. Of course there were none so we walked back to Cobalt to sit indoors. We then proceeded to have the worst fish tacos we have ever had in Florida or anywhere else in the world. We were way beyond disappointed especially since we were meeting friends for lunch and we recommended the restaurant. This restaurant was surprisingly very good! I was not expecting it to be so great due to all the so-so reviews. We sat outside with a great view of the ocean (see photo) and they have 2 beautiful outdoor fire pits where you can sit before or after dinner to have a drink, watch the ocean, and warm up from the cool night's breeze. The truffle fries were skinny, crispy, and salty- just how I like them. The beet salad was delicious and fresh, and the red snapper entree was flavorful and a great sized portion. read more

Our dinner was so disappointing start to finish, starting with server our waitress who should be slinging hash in a dinner. We were served 3 jumbo shrimp cocktail that had "number 2" in their veins, you know, sh_t!! OMG....that was gross!!! The waitress, takes that plate, leaves the rest of the plates, crumbs on the table, walks away, we have ask her to wipe down the table, and then, the Assistant Manager, Bo, comes and asks what happened..when told.. who offers no apology, tells me it will be removed from my check, and he will send the waitress to take an order for desert on the house..we ordered coffee and desert, the trio of deserts looked like left over breakfast deserts sent back from room service, and were also inedible!! this waitress did not even ask why we did not eat them and brought us a check, which in itself was insulting..these deserts were charged on this check, really a total lack of professionalism. Bo Brown, the Asst Manager then says I removed the shrimp from your check..hands me his business card, I just could not not beleive this went over his head..hasn't got a clue or sense of decency.. come back and see me, he says..he probably hired and trained this waitress. Fair and Honest review - Dinner last night for 2 - $360. 2 steaks, 2 sides each, one soup one salad, 2 deserts and 1 draft beer. The bad: Hostess - girl with long brown hair, not a good front face, seemed miserable. Thank goodness male hostess stepped up, friendly and cheerful. Food: Lobster bisque and Caesar salad - so salty, did not eat. The good: Octopus appetizer fantastic, steaks perfect but we had to specify hold the finishing salt crystals, mushrooms and broccolini great, mashed potato's great but cold, carrots so so - a bit raw. Cheesecake average, flourless choc cake average. Our service was excellent and waitress fantastic. Overall, glad I checked it out to learn I have had better food and equivalent steak quality at more affordable restaurants. Will add, the bartenders were attentive and personable! PS- The host asked if there was a special occasion. I replied our 34th anniversary- no special surprise so not sure if we were supposed to expect anything! The food is pretty good at Cobalt although the menu is limited but the service is AWFUL. We ended up ordering in-room to avoid it but they should really tell clients that they're not offering in-room dining at this time since a "to go order" with plastic utensils and styrofoam boxes (no plates, no glasses) is not considered "in-room dinning" in any 1+ star hotel, definitely not worth the service charge. Very nice restaurant on the second floor of the Kimpton Oceanfront. Valet makes for easy disposition of our car. Large floor-to-ceiling windows with soaring ceilings highlight a very open and inviting feel to the very broad and spacious dining room. Easter Sunday buffet. Lots of choices, including steam tables full of breakfast foods, large wild-caught steamed & peeled shrimp, carved-to-order beef tenderloin with a couple of steam trays of vegetables, an omelet station, a surprisingly-tasty nacho bar, and an entire dessert line with fresh-made Bananas Foster and a number of delightful pies. We enjoyed a very relaxing meal. Most of us chose to make multiple visits using several small plates and dined casually for a good 90 minutes, yet we never felt rushed by our attentive and efficient waitstaff. The shrimp were very well-prepared, and paired nicely with a delicious Caesar salad. The tender & tasty beef tenderloin was cooked rare. The potatoes and Brussel sprouts both held up nicely in the steam trays. The omelets were prepared exactly right: fluffy and stuffed with nice mushrooms and some crumbled sausage. The dessert bar had pecan & apple pie plus cheesecake, all 3 of which were a hit at our large table of family and friends. All-n-all, everyone agreed this Easter meal was spot-on and satisfied all of our fellow diners. Afterwards we enjoyed a leisurely stroll outside along the beachfront patio as we walked off our meals. I am extremely disappointed in Cobalt adding a culinary gratuity surcharge to our dining bill. I am a restaurant owner/operator with over 20 plus years in hospitality and this is a horrible practice for a Corporation to use. This is nothing more than a ploy to pay your BOH employees a less than fair hourly wage and to have the guests be guilted into subsidizing your labor costs for your BOH employees. Industry standard is to put your labor costs into your menu pricing so that everything is fair and transparent, not for an additional gratuity/surcharge to be added to a bill for distribution to the BOH staff so that the company can pay them a lower hourly wage. It isn't a matter of the money, this culinary gratuity charge was only for $5.90, but it is the principle of the matter. I voluntarily tipped $100 to the server for a bill of $350 dollars, but I refused to pay this $5.90 "culinary gratuity" surcharge. Its the fact that a corporate entity is using this practice to not pay their BOH employees a proper hourly wage which I find reprehensible. It is also illegal to place a gratuity on any bill, unless it solely goes to the server and their support staff but instead they maintain it is a suggested gratuity, which is just a smoke screen to guilt the guests to pay this surcharge and still technically be within the law, which is a deceptive practice from any perspective. Nowhere on the bill that I was presented was it itemized as a "suggested" surcharge. I will never patronize anything in this company's portfolio while this practice is in place and those in the corporate hierarchy who started this operating practice know nothing about hospitality or how to pay their hard working staff an honest and decent wage. This is nothing but a deceptive practice to increase profits, pass the labor costs onto the guests and minimize paying their hard working employees. a fair wage Shame on them. read more

"Fine spa cuisine, oceanside!" We visited Vero Beach to see a prospective client; and, it was good to find out the CEO share my taste in ties (Jerry Garcia) and socks; and, that we both had a significant history with Barnett Bank in Florida. We knew many of the same people, although he was about 10 years ahead of me in introductions. We went to Cobalt since the CFO had a photo assignment for his architect sister. The hotel and spa are impressive, as is Cobalt. It's upscale; but, comfortable; and, the menu is packed with healthy choices; and, interesting flavor combinations. Our server, Irama, was very pleasant and very attentive, without being intrusive. We had plenty of time to talk; and, discuss business. And, the food was great. To start, my Yelp app notified me of a "Free Order of Truffle Fries" when checking in, so I showed that to Irama; and, we had those as an appetizer. For drinks, everyone got Iced Tea but, me... I had to try the Pinapple Mint Lemonade. It was delicious. At $4 per-drink, though, it's resort prices! Mains included a Crab Cake Salad, which looked incredible; a Caesar Salad with Salmon; a Cobalt Burger; and, my Lobster Roll. The lobster roll was packed with sweet, tasty crustacean goodness, with very little seasoning... it was perfect! The burger and my roll came with a side of fresh fruit... healthy options abound. At nearly $30, per person for lunch, including tip, you know you are paying for the location, the atmosphere, and the service. Was it worth it?
