We ended up ordering take out on NYE as we did not want to go out. Service was really quick and the food was pretty good. We all had burgers and fries which both had good flavor but the burgers were slightly overcooked. We had the cheese sticks for appetizers which were good As well. read more

Celebrated our anniversary here and ended up getting heavy apps and cocktails because we couldn't decide which apps were good. They all were! Had a great time. My dirty martini was perfect & hubby enjoyed his old fashioned. Great resort, too. Server was prompt and professional. We come to The Portofino several times a year and always enjoy dining at coastal. The service is always excellent, the atmosphere is a classy beach theme mixed with fine dining and the food is always top tier. Last night several of us had the ribeye which is always cooked to juicy perfection, my daughter had the salmon and really enjoyed it. We also started with the charcuterie board which was good, but not great. Either way, this place is always a sure thing when craving great food on vacation. read more

I ordered the rib-eye steak meal to go so I could eat it in my room. I found that while the steak was cooked to my specifications, it was really tough and full of gristle. I'm not sure it was actually a rib-eye, either. It was more like sirloin. Definitely not worth the $36 I paid to eat it. read more

I had the salmon and loved it. The glaze was the best, and the plating was beautiful as well. Everyone there was so polite! Kaylee helped us while we were there and she was very kind. I also spoke with the chef--I didn't get his name-- and he was both polite and talented! The restaurant was so nice that you would be more than happy with any dish you get. The Coastal at Portofino...We had nothing but the best experience here at the breakfast buffet, the Starbucks, the smoothie bar and the shops. Of course there is so much to do here that I missed the nail shop and massages or the evening dinners. But for the service and friendliness of the staff. I received nothing more than the utmost respect. Smiles and attentiveness. The breakfast buffet was reasonably priced and had so many items to choose from, good coffee too. Glad we went here. The seats and tables were clean. The restaurant had pretty views of the double pools and views of the bay side of the gulf. With all the water bouncer activities steps away. I am thankful that my friend Betsy let me stay at her condo this weekend. For Thanksgiving dinner, I ordered the andouille grouper (yes they did have the traditional dinner but...) and it was to die for, sitting on top of a grit cake. Very decent food, but a word to the wise if you're not staying at the resort, the police are quite aggressive. They employ illegal tactics and will punish you if you stand up for your rights. They will bring out K9s on families, set up DUI checkpoints outside popular restaurants, and will lie to give you a ticket. This is bad for business and bad for the island. The businesses need to band together to limit this. We don't come on vacation to be harassed. I'm the type they want returning. My wife and I we're considering a condo in the Portofino, but after seeing half a dozen unnecessary stops and checkpoints by the aggressive police, we probably won't be returning. read more

My husband and I just left more than satisfied! Coastal has it all, atmosphere, food, along with service. Ryan was the bartender and treated us so well. He makes one of the best old fashion cocktails ever! Even makes an excellent Kentucky Mule. The conversations and company were top notch! I am so glad that we gave this restaurant another shot. Coastal restaurant at Portofino Island resort should be on your list!! A delightful experience. We arrived at Coastal for an 8:00 pm reservation. The restaurant was nearly packed and lively with guests and staff. We began with the crab cake appetizer. It was one of the best crab cakes I've ever had! The chef utilizes spices in a wonderful way. The pineapple salsa was a perfect accompaniment. We also had the organic chicken and the grouper. Both were outstanding! The service was wonderful! William and Michael have a clear vision of excellence in dining and are working alongside each staff member to make sure that vision becomes reality. I certainly expected more from this restaurant in an upscale resort. The decor was minimal, and almost stark. Our foursome went there for Christmas dinner and were disappointed with the service and the food. The server was a bit quirky and plates were cleared before we finished our meal. We started with salads. The mixed green salad was good, but the croutons on the Caesar salads were soggy. The catch of the day came with rice and asparagus. The flavor of the fish was good, but everything was very salty. One of our party had the salmon. She sent the plate back because it was extremely salty. The chef came out to apologize and ask what was wrong. He replaced the meal, but the replacement arrived after everyone else had finished eating The meal was fairly expensive for a marginal dining experience. We will not be back. read more
