Sushi in the Sushi Bar 06-2026
    Bonnie B.

One of the most treasured secrets whispered to me in the last 6 months has been in regards to Flounder's. As a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, it remains busy most open hours. About 6 months ago one of my closest friends exposed me to the Flounder's Sushi Bar and my visits back to Pensacola have been forever changed. Located to the left of the hostess stand, the Founder's Sushi Bar is a great option for intimate parties of 1 to 2 people for authentic, fresh Sushi options. The staff inside is dedicated to preparing orders placed from the Sushi menu to any and every seat in the restaurant but they also have a Sushi Bar that can fit up to 3 individuals comfortably. The service is personal and efficient, especially if your hankering is solely for fresh Sushi. 08-15-2026

This place is loud, crowded, sandy, and hot. We were seated outside, and I didn't know they had indoor seating until we were leaving. It would have been nice to have been given the choice between indoor and outdoor seating. The food was good, and the restaurant had a fun vibe. It was just so unbearably hot outside that it made it hard to enjoy our lunch. I think our experience would have been different had we sat indoors. That said, if you're looking for an outdoor, beachy, fun Florida restaurant, this is the spot. Parking near the restaurant is competitive and intense. Most likely, you'll have to park across the busy street or near other stores and walk through the crowded parking lot. It's not ideal for kids, older adults, or large groups. Hostess and Staff were very nice although clearly very very busy. -1 star for the parking situation and not being given a seating choice.

Delicious! An abundance of fresh seafood. I got the sampler platter and it was simply fabulous. The popcorn shrimp are nowhere near usual popcorn small shrimp that you would get outside of a costal restaurant. The only thing, I did not like the deviled crab in the crab shell. This taste and look like something I would get from Captain D's. But everything else taste freshly made and, authentic from the coconut shrimp to the butterfly shrimp and flounder. The blueberry lemonade with crown royal hit the spot! Great service- never had to look around for my server- she anticipated our needs

This place was fantastic and easy to come in as a large party. Anthony took care of us and was amazing at answering questions, helping with allergies and refills. We enjoyed the baked oysters, chowder, stuffed flounder, whole fried flounder, sushi, fried shrimp, and more. Everything was fantastic. I would def visit again.

Great experience! The food was delicious; I got the Flounder Fish Tender appetizer as my meal & wow - it was so good! We had the sweetest surprise visitor Tequila - she gave us a good laugh taking my husband's hat, then tossing it back to him. Great atmosphere, we got there as soon as they opened for lunch, but I'm sure the dinner experience at night would be fun too. 10/10 definitely recommend!

We went for clam chowder (they didn't have lol) but I ordered the Flounder Chowder anyway to give it a try. It has fish, clams and shrimp. It was good, but I didn't enjoy the shrimp being in there. The fish was awesome and that was a nice surprise. A speck of pepper/ spice caught me by surprise in the back of my throat... which took a minute and half a glass of sweet tea to recover from. Thank goodness I had sweet tea close! The bread with honey butter that they bring to the table is amazing! We ordered a "Fred's Fried Favorites" platter to share and we couldn't finish it!! I really enjoyed the fried flounder and popcorn shrimp. My husband enjoyed the coleslaw, the founder, coconut shrimp, big shrimp and the French fries. He ate the crab cake and said it was smooth not chunky... he liked it, but wasn't his favorite. It was super hot on the patio (even with fans) and they sat us by the playground (booo) which wouldn't have been my first choice of seating, but we did have a nice roomy booth.

Going back to Flounder's is like returning to a beachside fever dream you somehow enjoyed the first time and deciding, "Yeah, let's spin the wheel again." And somehow, the sequel still works. The place remains gloriously over-the-top. Part seafood restaurant, part nautical museum, part "did someone buy out a Bass Pro Shop liquidation sale?" Nets, ropes, buoys, random fish decor, and enough maritime chaos to make you wonder if your waiter is secretly a retired captain. It's loud, touristy, slightly ridiculous, and honestly half the fun. This round, I went straight for the Flounder Chowder, and here's the pro tip: the "award-winning" label is not menu fiction. It's absolutely worth ordering. Rich, creamy, loaded with flavor, and the kind of chowder that makes the whole table go quiet for a second because everyone suddenly has the same thought: oh, this is why people talk about it. This is comfort in a bowl with just enough Gulf Coast swagger to make you want another spoonful before you've swallowed the first. Then came the Yellowtail Sushi roll, which was already a favorite, but this time it showed up drizzled with orange juice. Yes. Orange juice. On sushi. At first glance, it sounds like the kind of culinary decision made during a kitchen dare. But somehow it works ridiculously well. The citrus hits first, bright and fresh, then melts right into the clean yellowtail flavor and turns the whole bite into this sweet-tart, refreshing little flavor bomb. It shouldn't make this much sense, and yet it absolutely does. Weird on paper, genius on the plate. It's officially my new favorite roll there. That's the magic of Flounder's. Just when you think the giant tourist-ship atmosphere is the main attraction, the kitchen sneaks in something unexpectedly excellent and reminds you why this place keeps pulling people back in. Four stars. For the chowder, the orange-kissed sushi, and for once again proving that beneath all the nautical chaos is a kitchen that knows exactly what it's doing. Also, if anyone judges orange juice on sushi, they simply haven't evolved yet.

Had lunch here with a group. The place is huge. Service was fast and the food was good. After lunch we walked behind the restaurant to the beach. Definitely a tourist area. I ordered the chowder. It wasn't hot but I just took it back to the room and heated it later..

Busy, just like the last time we visited. They seated a part of 6 fairly quickly. Ambiance was wonderful, we sat in the heated patio area. Which was great. I wanted the chilly weather and half wanted warmth, so it worked. It's been 6 years since our last visit. As with everything prices have gone way up. I wasn't impressed with my meal. Nor was my teen. The oysters appetizer was the best part. The drink was mostly mixer, and not alcohol. For the price it was disappointing. I'd return for the oysters, now that we live close. I'd skip the rest.

My wife and I were in town for a weekend getaway and stopped by Flounders after an afternoon at the beach. We came straight in to our table, I had the Firecracker Shrimp Tacos and my wife had the Seared Ahi Tuna Tacos. Both were excellent and plenty of food. Wayne was our server and was very attentive, courteous and thorough. It was moderately noisy, but we could still talk to each other without shouting. I wish we would have had room for the Key Lime Pie dessert, but the Tacos were too much

This is about my third or fourth time eating here, usually my go to is coconut shrimp but I changed it up this time! This was a large portion of Mac and cheese! It was great! I'd definitely recommend it if you love shrimp!

I wanted to try so many things on the menu here, but just didn't have the stomach space! I tried some sushi to start and then went for a fried fish po boy. The sushi was good and the po boy was delicious. The breading on the fish was very nicely spiced and had a great crunch to it. I tried dipping in the ranch as well and that was a good call (as always). Our server was so chill and helped us find what we were after, providing great suggestions. The decor and lighting in here was a lot fun, contributing to a fun experience. It was a great spot to hit after a day out and about. I also opted for some diesel fuel and it definitely hit the spot

Is the full menu available until midnight?

Sushi closes at 11 pm. The rest of the menu is available until midnight.

What kind of fish is offered in po boy? And what time does daily special start? I was coming for lunch

Well, they have a shrimp Po-Boy, but they also have a generic Po-Boy called Fish Po-Boy...you would have to call the restaurant and ask or just go and ask when you order.

Can you order off the regular menu during brunch?

    Yes, both menus are available.

    Is Flounders open for Christmas?

On behalf of the entire Flounder's family, we want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! Just a reminder, we will be closed Christmas day so that our employees can spend time with their families. We are open all day today and will be seating…

    How is their sushi?

it is good but I didn't have it this trip

    Party of 10?

Yes. Select 6 and put 10 in the comments.

Is there a waitlist? Trying to get on the waiting list via Yelp, but is says the waitlist is closed. Any information is appreciated.

You need to call them. Fastest way or stop by there.

    Is indoor seating available?

Yes indoor and outdoor seating is available.

    Is this place dog friendly?

    No dogs allowed

    Do you serve boozy milkshakes?

    Yes- bushwhacker

    Is there a kids menu?

    Yes.

If you buy the diesel fuel drink can you keep the jar it comes in?

    Yes

    Do you take reservations?

Yes, do them online so you will have a place in line. quicker than putting your name in when you get there.

    Can I make an appointment?

yes, it is the only way to save a 2 hour wait. we used "open table" to make the reservation.

Is this family friendly and do they have a kid's menu?

They do have a kids menu and it is kid friendly. It is a very loud, large restaurant.

    Fried eel on the menu?

You can get fried just about anything off their menu, however I cannot recall if that includes eel. They do have a Sushi Bar on premises so there's a good chance if they have…

Are there any gluten free options?

Karl, our server, walked me through the menu as to what would and would not contain gluten. He was very knowledgeable.

Need to rethink this place if your going for seafood?

Don't rethink ....go now it's delish!

Do you allow dogs on the patio?

    Yes

From the moment we arrived, Melissa provided some of the best service we've experienced in a long time. She took incredible care of our entire party, including our 6-month-old daughter. As any parent knows, dining out with a baby can sometimes be challenging, but Melissa made us feel completely welcome and comfortable throughout the evening. We enjoyed wine, appetizers, and several entrées, and she was wonderful about accommodating customizations and special requests. What really stood out was how genuinely kind and engaging she was with our baby and she took time to play with her, made her smile and giggle, and truly helped make the night special for our whole family. The food was fantastic, the views are absolutely incredible, and the atmosphere is hard to beat. The outdoor patio and bar area are especially beautiful.
