The quaint gift shop next-door makes the waiting for a table to be seated very PLEASANT. The fresh deep fried fish tenders are phenomenal, especially the flounder strips they were seasoned well, which is rare for a lot of battered seafood! The frozen drinks are great there. The atmosphere is a whole vibe, especially at the kickoff of summer, locals and tourists both love it. I have frequent at this restaurant several times everything ranging from the end of season football celebration luncheon to special family birthday functions and even date night nights. It is awesome highly recommend.!! They have fire pits, cozy couches, high top tables even booth seating ! The staff flounder was delicious. The only food I did not like was the chicken Alfredo. The chicken breasts were a bit tough and not marinated or flavorful, but the seafood is spectacular and fresh! they have an adorable parrot named tequila. The online check in was clutch for a Friday night for 2. We enjoyed watching the sand volleyball while we waited. We were too close to the stage, but did not begrudge this because we were seated within 15 minutes. Our server was prompt and drink orders were taken before we even settled in. This was very much appreciated. We split the Hawaiian Chicken breast with red potatoes. After several meals of fried foods, we needed a change of pace. They were not able to plate it separately, but an extra plate did arrive with the meal. We finished with the banana pudding, which was amazing and huge. The presentation was worthy of the photograph I took. I am not going to lie: this place is big! But they were able to orchestrate the controlled chaos like Aircraft Carrier flight operations. Rich, creamy, loaded with flavor, and the kind of chowder that makes the whole table go quiet for a second because everyone suddenly has the same thought: oh, this is why people talk about it. In business since 1979, you just know it's gonna be an exciting time when, as you walk up, there's the actual 55-foot 30 feet high, M/V FLOUNDER, out front that was a real shrimp boat, a 980 pound Blue Marlin (world record at the time) in the the bar and be careful as you walk past the giant man eating clam. The place is huge with many indoor tables but even as big as it is, I would still get there early to avoid the long lines at peak times. In the back you'll find many covered picnic tables, beach volleyball, sandy playground for the littles and a Jimmy Buffett type stage for music. But enough about that. The food is what people come for. My chowder was without a doubt the best chowder ever! Floyd Flounder's Phenomenal Flounder Chowder Winner of the Great Florida Chowder cook off Featured in Southern Living and they weren't kidding. Be advised on their Shrimp boat Platter. Two maybe three can enjoy this feast of fresh caught Gulf shrimp and fish. And if that isn't enough their Key Lime pie is like nothing you've ever seen or tasted. Just delicious. For one, it's the staff, like our waitress Trish who was simply amazing, attentive and gave some wonderful suggestions. Then, there is a massive shrimping boat out front that was actually used by the Flounder family for fishing. The set of boat motors hanging throughout the joint adds both uniqueness and wonder, with the latter being primarily a thought of how they haven't yet fallen down on someone's head. Regardless, one of the coolest decorations imaginable for a seafood joint. When it comes to food, classical like baked oysters, snapper and award winning flounder chowder do not disappoint. Pair that with a McGuire's red brewed down the street or a Key Lime Colada and the meal becomes a little piece of magic. The only disappointment was the poor macaw named Tequila at the front, who really needs a much bigger cage. It's sad enough when birds of this size are kept constrained for our amusement and it's borderline torture to keep this creature in such a tiny cage. Another small improvement is moving the plastic playground somewhere else, as it really ruins the vibe of this otherwise uniquely decorated establishment and blocks the views of the gulf. It was OK. I had the blue frozen drink that came with the souvenir glass and it wasn't very good. I also had the Baja fish tacos knowing they were made with flour tortillas but the tortillas were not even warmed up so I didn't really like them.
