Went for lunch. We had to order at the bar and then seat yourself. Ordering took forever bc there was one person working the bar/ taking orders and another person bringing food out, cleaning tables. The person taking the orders was also the person immediately making bar drinks and sno cones. When you pay ahead, you are presented tip options as though it is a full service restaurant (starting at 18%). Except you serve yourself from the soda machine, and after your food is brought out no one checks on you. My BBQ shrimp ($14) wasn't bad, but there was no extra garlic butter sauce to dip your bread in at the bottom. So virtually no point in getting the bread with it. I was so disappointed. The crab claws (1/4lb) were meaty but overpriced in my opinion. The views from the deck are gorgeous and it was really nice eating outside. read more

Come for the show, stay for the beignets. Especially the beignets, perhaps the best we've had since Cafe de Monde a decade ago. The food: Florida fried or something your cardiovascular doctor would recommend to help fund his child's graduation party. Shrimp, oysters, hush puppies, sweet potato fries, onion rings, fries and boudin balls. That's spread over three orders mostly. All good. One guest ordered a cup of red beans and rice given the boudin balls and beignets on the way. Another ordered a big burger that spilled over the bun. Again, thumbs up. Ambiance: Pensacola Beach seems to be a mix of tasty new spots and others awaiting the next hurricane. This is the latter and very appreciated for its classic feel. Service: you order at the counter and servers deliver. You get your own drink refills. All friendly but DIY. Show: we arrived just ahead of the cloudburst. Our bay view was beaching pontoon boats and jet skis, one of which got away during the No Name Storm. Hero points for the staffer who jumped in and rescued it. The sideshow was a family weathering the weather in a kids' dome tent as dad stayed in shallow water defying lightning -- or else beaching himself. The sheets of rain, occasionally sideways, was impressive. There was flooding in the parking lots which made for a tricky exit. Summary: a relic to remember. I inquired where my order was 20 minutes later. They forgot to put it in. Was annoyed because my friends already finished their meal. This was some of the best food we had during our visit. It wasn't crowded as most places, the staff was patient and kind, and the air conditioning worked, lol! We wanted to come back before we left but they were closed the next time we were ready to visit them. Very tasty, fresh, and authentic food. My parents both had variations of the sampler (not pictured). I had the bbq shrimp and red beans and rice and I liked them both! The look of Nola is very cool and the staff were friendly. The catfish and Poboy were pretty good standard for what they are but the romalaude sauce was excellent. The stuffed fish special was the best thing served that day. The stuffing was excellent. It had crab in it. I ordered the shrimp and grits. While everything seemed to have been prepared well, the grits had a nice texture and the shrimp were also prepared nicely, and the tomato sauce was thick. Unfortunately, the dish was painfully over salted and almost inedible. Hopefully it was just a problem on that day. read more

Dog friendly seating on the outside. The service here is outstanding. It was late at night and they made a fresh and very tasty pot of sweet tea for my wife. That warmed her heart as she gobbled the fresh and delicious oysters down. The gumbo was thick and tasty. I'm a novice creole consumer, so others are best for to judge the authenticity. I have no complaints! The drinks were fantastic, I had the hurricane NOLA, my husband the Nola bushwhacker, and kids got delicious virgin piña coladas. Crawfish etouffe was delish as a traditional Nola dish and the fried green tomatoes on the NOLA BLT were so good. Burger was cooked to perfection. There was plenty of food. I got a side salad with blackened chicken that was so juicy and flavorful yet blackened at the same time. The staff was so friendly on top of everything. Not as good as the last time... We stopped into Cafe Nola again, while in P-Beach for the long week... Not sure if the restaurant is under new ownership or management, because it wasn't like what it was before - The service was "meh" and the food was subpar. When we rolled in, the bartenders/servers were screwing around with each other and no one acknowledged us (or the family behind us)... We waited a few minutes to order (no biggie, we weren't in a hurry). Our food came out quickly and looked good. We ordered the seafood gumbo and shrimp/oyster poboys. The gumbo was awesome, but the poboys were not (the sandwiches were huge though)... They were very greasy and overly salty. All-in-all, we were disappointed with the food quality (especially for the price - $60 for lunch) as compared to last year when we were there. As for the restaurant itself, it still has the same cool vibe, clean and seemingly well-kept... The service however was nonexistent. There were employees at the bar (2 managers-ish and 3 bartenders/servers) who were sitting around playing grab %ss and unconcerned with customers - Loudly/obnoxiously joking with each other, playing on iphones, and pretty much ignoring the customers. I get it that it's a laidback joint, but customer service goes a long way... Needless to say the customer service needs attention. Unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed in Cafe Nola this time around... It was really good last year. This place has a ton of potential (and a prime location), but they're aren't in the same league as what Cosse's on Beach used to be (before COVID shut them down). The ambiance was very cool. It was a beach/New Orleans vibe and was awesome. We ate our food while enjoying the VIEW OF THE OCEAN !! There was a long line to order, but that line went fast. They serve your food to you and you do the rest. Our server was very fast and friendly same with the lady who took our order in the front. The food was delicious!! 1 pound shrimp boil -- It was A LOT we definitely had some leftovers! Overall was very good. Hamburger* char-grilled -- "This was the best burger I've had in a while!!! Our first time here a couple days ago. We're big fans of cajun food, so had to give it a try. The location is nice and outdoor seating looked great, if only it had been a bit warmer out! My husband had a really nice piece of fish on his blackened grouper sandwich. We also tried their seafood gumbo and crawfish etouffe. The crawfish were a little fishy (maybe they always are?), but the etouffe had a really nice zesty flavor. We'll probably try again when we can sit outside. read more

This super casual place is on the bay side of the island, not far from the south end of the toll bridge. Orders get placed at the counter near the main entry, then you'll take your number to a seat and await the arrival of your food. The beer selection is pretty limited, unfortunately, though there are a number of Abita offerings available if that's your preference (it is, after all, a place meant to celebrate south Louisiana tastes). The oysters I've had here are clean, well sized, and nicely shucked. I also really enjoyed the Creole gumbo with potato salad. That said, the counter based ordering system isn't convenient. A more traditional form of service would eliminate the long lines at the door and the necessity of visiting the counter multiple times (including to pay). Furthermore, it would help eliminate errors like the one I experienced, when my follow-up order got lost for a while. It didn't help when the bartender left me waiting several minutes to pay my bill, even though there were no other customers at the bar; she saw me but left me waiting as she cleaned. Better service and more comfortable seating options would make this place stellar. read more

Was not expecting to leave a bad review however this food was disgusting and horrible. It was overcooked. The hush puppy was so hard and so overcooked I could not eat them unless I broke it apart . Stopped in Pensacola for the night on a drive from Orlando to Houston. Decided to stop by this place. Nice, quiet place with the nicest hosts. I love gumbo and usually have a hard time finding a good one. I regret only getting the cup, I should have ordered the bowl! With this cold weather that chicken and andouille gumbo really hit the spot. My burger also was huge and full of flavor. My family ordered some seafood baskets with fish and shrimp that did not disappoint. Good service, clean restrooms and great food. If I'm ever back in Pensacola I will stop by once again! read more

It's a LARGE sandwich filled with different types of italian meats and lots of olives. If you're not an olive fan, don't get it, you won't enjoy it. We did request for the sandwich to be toasted.... it was so half assed. Bread was barely toasted with cold meats. cheese was not melted. This was a nice spot to come get beignets when on vacation, and the ambiance really makes you forget you're in florida, but rather New Orleans. The service was standard, nothing memorable but not bad either. The beignets were well baked, doughy, and had a good amount of powdered sugar. Average food, amazing venue and ambiance, and good service. The only thing that would make this place better is excellent food. I love the order at the front and seat/serve yourself, it removes the hassle of waiting for a server and reduces the cost. You great a wonderful view of the sound and beach, and you're right next to a playground (also on the beach) for kiddo entertainment. The food portions are fairly small, but the poboys are large. We ordered chicken and andouille gumbo, roast beef poboy, jambalaya, and beignets. The chicken and andouille gumbo had the most flavor, but was mostly broth and lacking in substance. The jambalaya meat had good flavor but the rice was not great, especially by itself. The poboy was pricey, but enough for 2 people with the whole, and slightly bland roast beef, which had a mushy texture- wasn't crazy about it and won't order it again. The bread that came with the food was literally like dried cracker and only palatable once dipped in the gumbo. The beignets were good but the dipping sauce was awful, pretty sure it was straight cough syrup. All that being said, we will certainly return because my kids love it here and the location is spectacular with wonderful people working, hoping for better food! read more

The bananas foster cheesecake did not have bananas on it so that was a bummer. We had gotten it to go so we didn't bother driving all the way back to have it corrected. Delicious! I just love Cajun food and this place hit the spot. The crawfish etoufee was savory and the portion size was great. It had the right level of spice and I usually at hot sauce to everything. The jambalaya was yummy too with big chunks of andouille sausage. We also ordered the blackened fish which was cooked well and the fish sticks for the kids plate had a deliciously light coating and were flaky. The food came quickly. We stopped at this restaurant because of a great recommendation from a friend. The food was mediocre at best. I had the soft shell crabs and I was not very impressed. The restaurant was old and not the cleanest I have seen. My husband had a seafood burger and he thought it was okay. My friend's order did not come as she had ordered and she explained the issue to the waiter when he brought the order. He went back to get the cook and he came out to find out what the problem was. It seemed a little over the top in the moment. All in all, not a good experience. I won't be back for sure. read more
