Would most definitely choose other seafood choices in duck, we had ordered the lobster roll ($30.17) which was not worth the money. With a small serving of lobster in between a regular hotdog bun. Bland, unseasoned and lobster was mushy, the roll was mainly stuffed with celery. read more

Best place we have been we went back for a second time to try at night! Got take out last night. Husband's 8 fried shrimp were good. The fries tasted like McDonald's day old fries. Hamburger was tiny, cheese melted so much that it was literally cooked off.. Bun was smashed to a flat pancake. 31 bucks for those two meals. TERRIBLE. McDonald's would've actually been better and I am not a fast food fan. read more

Food is really great and went back for more another day. Ordering process and takeout window was frustrating and the hours were not clearly posted. No indoor seating was available and we have to initiate contact at the takeout window to be served. Ending up directing more people to the takeout window ourselves as no one could figure out what the situation was and would have left without ordering if we hadn't personally shown them the takeout window ourselves. We ate here twice during our week vacation in Duck. The first time we got takeout for dinner and it was awesome! We had a bunch of fresh seafood, but the star of the show was the hushpuppies! They were absolutely perfect! They have a drive through window in the back so pick up was a breeze. the 2nd time we ate here, we sat out back by the bar and it was a great little outdoor area. Our server wasn't very friendly, but we only stayed for a few minutes while we ate the crab cake breakfast sandwich which was amazing! read more

Fine dining at a gas station? Yes, I was skeptical too, but it is worth the adventure. The dining area is small, but well designed and clean. There are tons of outside tables and a place for kids (two-legged and four) to run around. The server (despite being a Duke fan) was friendly and attentive. The food was really good. We shared the Mahi bites (well seasoned) and both had Greek salads. I'm still talking about how good the dressing was. Looking forward to a new place in our rotation. read more

This place is THE place for a great COVID-safe takeout meal, and at times there was a wait at the takeout window (though only a few cars). Over the three weeks we spent in Duck, NC (1 + 1 which had become 2) Sept-Oct 2020, we got 4-5 dinners from them. My favorite was the 8 Oz filet, which comes with the day's vegetables plus either a baked potato (HUGE) or rice (nice and sticky). For $30, you can't go wrong, not by DC-area prices anyways. And for $8 more, you can add a crab cake, which while not pure lump is pretty darn good! Their steak seasoning is a bit too salty, but they will happily lighten up on it. And we always ordered that rare-medium rare, so we could finish (meaning warm) it up at home. I used a skillet and re-seared it, but a microwave could be used (WITH CAUTION as it can quickly go up to medium-well or worse). The Wedge salad is a steal; you get half a head of iceberg lettuce, easily split with another (if a regular eater), with plenty of bacon and a very good blue cheese dressing (on the side). Seared scallops were also very good. If we had stayed longer in Duck (our now favorite beach town), we'd have tried more of their menu, but I kinda always stick with what I know will be good versus trying new things. We cannot recommend this place enough. Friendly staff, they immediately return your call if they miss it (which is often, but they would call us before they had even listened to our message), and easy checking out at the takeout window. read more

I have been here a couple times and if I would have rated then it would have been a 4, but pulling back to a 2.5 or 3. Let me preface by saying the vibe is cool, OBX Crabshack Chic and the Duck Wonton served with cajun lobster sauce are definite reasons to come back. Tonight as a table of one eating in the offseason with my pick of tables, I received a hurried waitress who could not read I want a longer more causal dining approach. Ordered my Wonton and a beer to start the relaxing evening. To every 2-3 minutes, are you ready to order? Are you ready to order? Until she finally got the hint to let me finish my first course. Then, I was ready to order. Tropical chicken, which was nothing to write home about, just an OK home cooked meat and potato meal. Then back to the hurried pace, checking if I needed water, or a box, and my check. Finally I succumb to the pressure and went ahead and signed for the check on an iPhone casually left on the table. I heard the waitress offer the "specials" to the next table, oh and yeah I did not hear the delectable specials. I guess a table of one spending $50 with tip does not get such a service. The drinks were amazing, so let's start there. I found no problems with the beverages minus the price cost, but luckily I was not paying. The appetizers were average, the wings were ok, the hush puppies were disgusting, and the potato skins tasted like this Friday's cooked in the oven, but unfortunately did not have any bacon bits. Now onto the entree . I ordered the chicken fettuccini Alfredo, and the chicken was cooked well, but the ratio of chicken to green vegetable ( I think it was spinach, but I'm not sure) was a little off. The pasta was practically uncooked, and the distinct taste of cracked peppercorns were a bit too much for my palette. Compared to other places at the obx, I would say this place was better. If I wasn't here, I would certainly not crave anything from cravings. I will give it a 4 because it is competing with dumps like Sooeys and fish bones whom serve unidentifiable rat and lukewarm turds / road kill on their menu. read more

This one was definitely not "award winning". "seasoned fries " means they have salt on them. Roast beef and cheddar sandwich - nothing special. We were not asked about refills on beers or dessert. This place was recommended by a local friend for good, well-priced seafood. It's located behind a gas station so it's underwhelming at best when you pull up, but once inside it's charming and you forget about the location (except when we got up to leave and we saw the opening from the gas station convenience store just past the bar). We ordered the hush puppies to start which came out hot, crispy and perfect. They were having issues with their wines by the glass but our waiter was quick to give me lots of options. Points for problem solving skills! Hubby ordered the crab cake meal and I ordered the seared scallops. Crab cakes were good. Not the most flavorful I've ever tried, but they were large, full of crab and not a lot of filler. There was just an overall lack of seasoning on his entire plate; the coleslaw and fries weren't well seasoned either. The scallops in lobster sauce were AMAZING! Perfectly done and very yummy. The rice it came with was bland and cold, but the zucchini and red bell pepper side dish was good. Overall the food was more like 3.5 stars but the service pushed me to give it 4 stars instead of 3. read more

NOT what we were craving: SLOOOW service (Quanita) combined with average/below average food quality. Plus, if you have a "large" group (bigger than 6), you will be split up and your tables aren't guaranteed to be close together; plus checks can't be separated between tables due to multiple servers, etc. We had 18 and were scattered apart. After our group of 6 were sat, we waited ~ 10 minutes before even meeting our waitress; the other tables in our group already received their drinks and appetizers by then! Our hush puppies took 25 minutes to reach our table - they should have been comp'd off of the bill! When I asked Quanita what she preferred between fish and chips or fish tacos, she said "I don't know, I haven't tried the fish tacos!" NOT A CONFIDENCE BUILDER! Our verdict: Fish and chips were ok - a step above captain D's - they're the same fish kids get in the "fish sticks" meal (2 pieces vs 4 pieces). Fish tacos were mediocre; when asked if they could be grilled or blackened, server responded "no." Water tasted worse than tap water at the beach house - we had to ask for our own refills by the way. Solid food and nice ambience, but why so many flies??! I had a really nice burger and the spiced shrimp was delicious, but we were constantly being bothered by flies and had to swat them away every few seconds. My sister enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich, which was juicy and a good size, not too big. Overall, we enjoyed the food here but the flies kind of ruined the experience. read more

I have now stopped by twice to get takeout at night and eatin lunch. This place is attached to a gas station but it also has an outdoor bar and little stage around back. Parking is a little tough. I was able to walk right up and order take out thur night june 8. They told me it would only be about 25min till it was ready but it was maybe 10min wait. We got a pound of seasoned shrimp, a pound of crab legs and an order of hush puppies. All were delightful and stayed warm till we took them home! The shrimp were perfectly seasoned, everything was fresh and the hush puppies are the same brand you can buy in store but it was so good. We next came friday for lunch at 11:30. We didn't realize that their dinner and lunch menu was different so we ordered a couple of things to share. We got fried calamari, it was good and came with a Chipotle mayo sauce. Not rubbery at all. We got the crabcake sandwich and it was good, but it could probably stand on its own bunless. I felt i could always taste the crab meat. Then we got the fried clam basket and oh my it was so darn good! Flavorful and cooked perfectly! I really like this place!!! read more

How in the world is this place rated 4 stars? And why did Guy Fieri bother to stop here (it seems it was under a different name when he did). The only reason I gave it one star was the hush puppies! They are out of this world....seriously, call and get an order to go but don't stay for the entrees. Hubby ordered fish and chips (the fish was Wahoo) and I've never seen thinner pieces of fish in my life. Not fresh, definitely frozen. I ordered shrimp and chips....shrimp were good size but 100% frozen and breaded elsewhere. It was awful. Triple-D claims to vet every location to make sure the food is fresh and prepared on site. They missed a step with this place. The seafood was 100% frozen, not fresh. We could've gotten better quality at Long John Silvers! read more

This spot unfortunately just doesn't make the mark. A group of us, 6 adults and 8 kiddos (all 8 and under) sat outside on the patio for lunch. It was breezy, it was cold and the food took so long that the kids were all just done so we took them all to go when we deciding eat on site just wasn't feasible anymore. My party of 5 ordered the crabcake sandwich w fries, the cheeseburger w fries, kids meal fish sticks w fries and kids meal chicken tender with fries. Food taste to price? Meh... Kids meal at $6 for maybe 1/2 cup portion of shoestring and either 2 small prices of fish or chicken was disappointing. The crabcake @ $19 was ok. Will I order it again? No, not really. It just wasn't there. The cheeseburger @ $16 was actually better than the crabcake, but it is really sad when that baconator I got from the red headed fast food place the next day leaving OBX was better (and I don't frequent this place very much). I'm a foodie. The place can be a dive and it is all about the food to me. However, the food isn't where it's at with this place. Sorry, but this was a dud. Maybe it was an off day... read more
