    Mussels

The freshest seafood around. Had great mussels from here. Hurry as they close during the off season

This was a last minute decision to stop in for shrimp when we couldn't get the large quantity we needed at Harris Teeter. The price was comparable to HT, maybe $2 more than the sale priced shrimp at HT but less than the shrimp at Food Lion. We could have driven to Kill Devil Hills for cheaper seafood but we didn't want to make the drive just for shrimp. The money we would have saved on the seafood would have been spent on gas. We needed 10lb of shrimp and there was more than enough in the store. We also took some mussels and used both for a seafood boil. They have everything you need in here including seasonings, utensils and sides. Conveniently located near Corolla which is where we stayed.

Can't say enough about the service and the quality of seafood they have. Very helpful and our seafood purchased was so fresh tasting. It was amazing. Highly recommend

We got the clam dip and the clam chowder. Both were great! I've never had clam dip before, and there were good amounts of actual clam in it. The clam chowder wasn't as thick as new england clam chowder, but it was still really yummy and flavorful.

She crab soup was good but too thin!

We stopped here because we had leftovers at home but needed a little bit of something more. They have a decent variety of homemade stuff. It's better for big groups though because the helpings are huge! We got the she crab soup which was very tasty but a little too thin in my opinion. I don't like soups that are the consistency of water! That did have this really delicious crab bread pie. Basically crab meat in a bread bowl that needs to be baked! I wish I could've tried that, but I hate wasting food!

Local, fresh, sustainable seafood and plenty of extras like rubs and marinades. Don't skip the key lime pie!

    How is the tomato pie?

A tomato pie is the best side dish in the south. I sauté garlic and butter spinach. Then layer tomatoes spring onions and green cheddar cheese in a old fashion pie crust it’s delicious.

Lovely room and cool view, service was underwhelming…read more We had good cocktails and then we had the duck egg rolls to start which were savory and delicious, hubby had shrimp and grits which he said were amazing... I had the catch of the day: pompano which was subtle and complex and quite simply delicious. Too bad the service was just so-so, perfunctory ... (like the waiter had been there and done that a million times -- ) ... otherwise an excellent meal and experience.

With small kids we rarely get away for a night on vacation and when we do we don't usually have the luxury of a pre-selected day. That means no reservation which means no Paper Canoe dinner. I am so glad we decided to stop in to check about a bar seat because the manager offered us a table with the stipulation they needed to turn it in about an hour: we were elated. We started with drinks, a spicy marg for me and an old fashioned for my husband. Both were great and made fresh. We also had bread service with olive oil and balsamic. The bread was steaming hot and fresh it was delicious. For entrees my husband ordered the waygu steak, he's never seen a real waygu on a menu and jumped on the opportunity to try it. When he took his first bite I thought he was going to weep. There was a perfect 'crust' on the steak, the plate came with a Japanese sweet potato, a pink Himalayan salt, greens and we thought maybe mushroom? The steak was perfect and the potatoes were amazing, they deserve praise too. I got the shrimp and grits, my favorite thing to order when it's on the menu: I've eaten a lot of shrimp and grits. This was my favorite, the grits were insane, so good, perfect texture, the shrimp (which were huge) were seasoned incredibly, I made it through three before passing my plate to my husband to finish. The sausage was great, a fattier piece, really tender and flavorful. I really loved the whole dish. There were two tree-sized asparagus (which I don't eat, but it's my husband's favorite) he said they were good! We wrapped our dinner just under an hour and in time for them to flip the table. We were so grateful to have the opportunity to experience Paper Canoe and can't wait to go back (hopefully with a reservation this time).

For an appetizer, the Brussel sprouts ($11?) were ordered. They came with a sautéed brown butter, balsamic vinegar, garlic, toasted pine nuts, and parmesan. These were alright. I liked the mix of flavors, mostly the toasted pine nuts and balsamic, but they were not cooked enough. They needed to be a tad crispier. For an entrée, I had the Bayou Cajun redfish ($32?). It came with shrimp, Cajun cream sauce, Pico de Gallo, black beans, and rice. This was a hearty dish. There was a ton of rice and beans that had good flavor with a large red fish filet too. The seasoning and sauce were alright. I thought the sauce needed more of a Cajun flavor to it. I also tried a special that was being offered the night I attended. It was a seafood trio. It consisted of crab meat, scallops, and shrimp with broccolini. It was cooked in a light butter sauce. This was simple and done right. Will I go back? Probably.
