Bluewater was recommended by another seafood market and the place did not disappoint. We got a GENEROUS dozen of #1's freshly steamed and seasoned to perfection. Fair warning that they are more expensive than what we're used to in DE/MD, but they were meaty, sweet, and tender. Enjoyed them so much we went back later in the week for swordfish which was also outstanding. Service was friendly and accommodating. Ordered a half bushel of number 1's. I'm originally from MD and I have a friend who sells crabs in MD. The half bushel I got had about 3 actual number 1's in it and the rest were number 2's unfortunate since I paid a price that would be for number 1's. Disappointed to say the least. read more

Avoid at all costs. Ordered half bushel of crabs, expecting to get #1s as promised.. picked up at 5:30pm (probably first mistake, employees probably wanting to get out of there as they close at 6:00pm) The crabs box was opened 20 min later to reveal very small crabs, under spiced, very light, not meaty, literally water pouring out as you hold them up. They didn't smell right as they looked boiled instead of steamed. Extremely disappointing seeing as they cost hundreds of dollars for this experience. Several family members tried eating a few of the heavier ones and gave up after an even more disappointing attempt. We tried calling the business, but since they closed at 6:00 we were only allowed to leave a message. To add to this miserable experience, almost half of my family members, (5) who ate the pathetic crabs, came down with stomach problems including vomiting and diarrhea, all attacking them at approximately the same time. We tried contacting the company the next morning leaving numerous messages. Someone finally called one of the phone numbers, we weren't able to answer the call. No message was left. This was at 6:30 pm after business hours. Alas the call - 4 minutes after their attempt, went to their VM again. Needless to say, this experience was a HUGE disappointment and placed a sour note to our vacation. We have been coming to Corolla for 23 years, and is something we look forward to every season. The thought that a business, that was alerted to our experience, did NOTHING to rectify or compensate for such a horrible visit is deplorable. We will NEVER patron this place again. read more

After returning home with an order for six people, we were disappointed to find very small portions of fried flounder. 60 dollars of fried flounder fit in one to-go container. Four half filets of fried flounder, each piece its own order. While the fish was good, the value is not. Consider before visiting. read more

We ordered a bushel of crabs, and a few pounds of shrimp and mussels this week. The shrimp and mussels were excellent but the crabs were very small, watery, and very light on seasoning. Pretty disappointed in the crabs considering we are paying top dollar for these. read more

We brought our extended family to the OBX for the first time and thanks to Bluewater had a fun crab cracking dinner at home on our screened porch. They steamed and seasoned the crabs for us. I recommend going light on the seasoning so that it's not too salty. Thank you Jill for taking good care of us and recommending the tuna and salmon with the teriyaki wasabi marinade. Make sure if you order seaford from this place by phone you ask questions because their website lacks portion sizes and prices. Also be sure to check your order before you take your food home. I ordered multiple items and checked it before bringing it home. While checking the order I questioned the items and was told the order was correct but when I got home with the food there were items missing and the fried clams were all breading and rubbery. Being from Baltimore and growing up on steamed crabs, my wife and I always try to treat our upstate NY friends to a Maryland-style meal every year when we visit the family house in Duck. We've alternated between buying live crabs (twice in the past here), or when we're not feeling like steaming a half-bushel, we get them steamed (once here before). We opted to get them steamed this year as we had a houseful of friends and didn't want to bother. We ordered a half-bushel of #1 jimmies and 2 lbs. of steamed shrimp. Total cost with tax was just under $180. Wow, were we disappointed. I'm not going to quibble about the size, the #1's were running around 5" everywhere with a few 6" ones in the box. What I will critique is the steaming, if one could call it that. Both the crabs and shrimp were way over-cooked, mushy and gross. The meat wasn't bad, the Old Bay (or their version of it) was OK albeit a little sparse despite the fact we asked for it to be on the heavy side. We were totally embarrassed building up this meal to our friends only to be completely disappointed. This was the week after the 4th of July, so it wasn't like it was off-season. Do yourself a favor - if you really want good crabs, O'Neal's in Wanchese is worth the drive. It seems Bluewater has gone the way of the other seafood market in Duck - overpriced, overhyped and willing to prey on the unsuspecting tourist. It's a shame as we try to patronize the local businesses but our year-round resident friends did warn us - we just didn't listen. We will avoid Bluewater from now on and would recommend you do the same. read more

Just bought a bushel of #1s. I have crabbed in NJ, the Chesapeake, the west coast of Florida for decades and we never would of kept 1/2 of the crabs we got in the bushel we got from Bluewater. The little neck clams and shrimp were very tasty, although not inexpensive at $20/50 clams and $11.99/pound for shrimp. Was looking for places with crabs and found Blue Water. Their website says to order by 2pm but we ordered super late at 430pm for 545pm pickup. They accommodated us and all they had left were jumbo crabs. They were big and meaty. Was not disappointed at all! While waiting to pickup, I saw lots of fresh seafood. Bluewater is a fantastic seafood market! Everything is fresh and outstanding quality. On one visit I bought mahi mahi, scallops, oysters, cooked shrimp, and hush puppies. I made a lemon butter garlic sauce for the fish and scallops and it was amazing. The next day I bought three ribeyes which were cut to order and came in at a pound each. They were perfect. Absolutely top notch service. Friendly. Accommodating. I can't recommend them enough and I will be back any time I am here on vacation. read more

Came in looking for fresh local fish, but unfortunately we came away with inedible spoiled fish. I should have asked to smell the fish before I bought it. I asked what was freshest and was told by the pre-teen child who waited on us that everything is fresh. We bought a pound of wahoo and a little over half pound of red snapper. Took it home right away, only a few minutes drive up the road, so there was no chance it was spoiled after leaving the store. As soon as I opened the bag with the wahoo in it I was hit with a spoiled rotten smell. I rinsed it in cold water before cooking but this didn't help. Cooked it on a flat grill, and took a taste, and it was awful. That went in the trash, as it should have gone before selling to a consumer. The snapper was okay, but definitely not very fresh. They charged about $18 a pound for each type of fish and I feel like I've been robbed. There is plenty of fresh local fish around here... there is no excuse for selling this garbage. read more

There is a great roadside farmer's market which sells the daily local catch across the street from Food Lion in Corolla, and, there is a decent seafood market in the Food Lion strip mall (again, in Corolla). read more

This was a great find during my recent trip to OBX. My friends and I were looking for some great seafood to cook as a means of diverting from our days long diet of burgers and wings. We found this place while driving around Corolla and I'm glad we did. The owners were super friendly and the seafood was great....fresh, delicious and affordable. They have authentic Jamaican Jerk seasoning which is incredibly hard to find outside of NYC or a place where there is a large Jamaican population....this place rocks!!!! I'm Jamaican and trust me...if you love spicy anything, buy this seasoning and your palate will love you. We got crab legs, some lobster and the most amazing crab cakes I've ever had. They were made fresh just a few minutes before we purchased them and they were delectable!!!! The cakes were made with lump crab and very little breading....just enough to hold everything together...which is just the only way to ever make crab cakes. This place is a delight and I cannot wait until our next trip back to OBX next May so that we can come back and enjoy their amazing seafood. read more
