We had the most shocking experience at timber Cove yesterday. We booked a dinner reservation online and upon arrival found out there was a private event happening. First of all We were made to feel like it was our fault we had booked the reservation through their app that clearly they forgot to black out. This was after driving 45 minutes up the coast with our four year-old and 96-year-old grandmother. Mistakes happen, and fortunately it was still early enough in the day, oh well. Now the event was not even happening, staff was still setting up chairs and there was no active party or guests anywhere. I asked if I could use the restroom before we drove 45 minutes back down the coast. I'm very clearly pregnant and needed to pee! I was told no that I could not, and that I needed to vacate the premises immediately because there was a private event! An event that was not happening anywhere in the area we were!. I was fairly shocked by this answer. I asked to talk to the manager and was told I was talking to the manager. This made me even more shocked that this is how a manager would handle this situation! Recall the only reason we are in the MIDDLE OF NO WHERE, hungry and with full bladders is due to a mistake on THEIR END. Clearly, there was a restroom somewhere on the entire property I could've used. But instead, she told me she would escort me off the property and then watched me waddle all the way back to my car. I guess she wanted me to loose my bladder in the parking lot? Upper management/and the owner of the establishment should be deeply ashamed of how their manager treated me. We've been coming here every year for 10 years when we come to visit our family and sadly this will absolutely be the last time we ever come up. read more

Stumbled upon this hotel and restaurant while driving up the coast and visiting the nearby Fort Ross. I wasn't necessarily dressed for the restaurant but I like good wine and food so we tried our luck walking in anyways! We arrived about 5:15pm on a Saturday night and the manager was able to squeeze us in at a nice table by the fire place. The decor was mid century modern open floor plan. I enjoyed a glass or two of the Stag's Leap Merlot and had the Caesar Salad followed by the Pork Chop. The food was amazing as was the wine! After dinner we grabbed another drink and headed out to the fire pit and down to the bluffs to enjoy the evening sun. read more

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and we had dinner there every night. The food was good, although a little on the pricey side in my opinion for the portion size. The restaurant has more of a formal dining area indoors where you can sit, an area where you can sit on tables outside and enjoy your meal, and a lounge area where there is a bar, fireplace, and lots of areas to sit down and relax. They have games you can pick out to play in the lounge area that is a fun addition. The first night I got the ceasar salad and we shared a cheese plate as an appetizer. The second night, I got the rissoto. The third night, I switched it up and got two sides, the mashed potatoes and cooked carrots. My recommendation would be if you are staying at the resort and have an ocean view, to have it delivered to your room. It was so nice to have our meal in our room, have an amazing view of the ocean, and feel all warm and cozy next to the fire. If you don't have an ocean view room or are not staying at the resort, I would recommend eating dinner at the resort and time it so that afterwards you can walk the property, watch the sunset, and take in the amazing views after your meal. read more

We took the winding US1 coast highway from Sea Ranch to eat dinner on a weekday. We originally planned to eat outdoors but the weather took a turn and it was incredibly windy and cold. They moved us indoors. The dining room is simply decorated and the tables were socially distanced. Felt very safe with the safety measures. The food was rated as excellent by everyone in my family. Food and service: unbelievable delayed time in taking out orders (30min) and bringing food 40min, especially for the inflated prices and additional fees plus gratuity. When asked when food was coming we were told ,"we're really busy". They were NOT busy from the many obvious vacant tables. The staff came over twice to try to clean up our table thinking we were done eating when we we didn't even get our food yet. The oysters, burgers, and chicken were excellent but the don't order the $14 tiny bowl of milky runny lukewarm smoked trout soup, disgusting! Please tell your chef to remove this item. My SO and I came up to check out the peace obelisk, and walk a bit along the shore. We came inside the restaurant and ordered some coffees. I almost got the mocha, and made sure to ask what they use for the chocolate. Typically, Ghirardelli, but they were out. As a sub, Hershey's syrup (yuck ) I was a bit hesitant to order off the limited menu, but I ultimately decided upon the classic latte with oatmilk The bartender asked if I wanted some sugar, which I said to put on the side. 2 cubes of what appears to be natural cane sugar. While waiting, I noticed some eco-friendly straws. Yay!! Only a few of the nasty skinny, black plastic ones for stirring coffee (I hope those get replaced very soon) As I took my latte over to the wooden high top tables lined against the wall (gorgeous btw), I sat down to take in the ambiance. Then I was ready to take my first sip. Amazing!! The BEST coffee is when sugar isn't necessary or needed. Ricotta cavateli- freshly made and tasty The cauliflower steak had a mole sauce base which was actually spicy (a first for me), made dish really nice Homemade bread butter - fresh again Cheese board - served 3 local cheese, out of which one was blue, goat cheese was extremely salty and Asiago. I understand that all hotel restaurants are necessarily subpar. due to room service needs, both back of house and front of house are doing more than they are in most places. usually that means longer service, smaller menu, and higher prices. all those things are true here, I expect that much, and my review does not reflect that. my review definitely doesn't reflect the front-of-house staff, because even though service was slow, each of the two servers had like ten tables. that's on management, not the wait staff. my server is the only star I gave. my review is mostly about the menu, which is bonkers. like all hotel restaurants, you're going to find expensive ingredients in simple dishes, so the prices can be justified. but, boy, do they hide those ingredients as much as they can here. for entrees, I got both the polenta and halibut each night I stayed. the polenta had fat slices of chiles, which were spicy. not spicy enough to be intolerable or anything, but enough drown out every other flavor. basically they were dinner grits. it wasn't bad, just weird. I'm not sure why the chiles were sliced so poorly. but whatever, I went back again for the halibut. halibut, as we all know, has a subtle flavor. and because it's expensive, you see it often with bright things that bring out that flavor (citrus, parsley, etc.). this was a halibut filet served on a mushroom broth. the broth is pure umami and it was really the headliner of the dish, like they were actively trying to hide the fish. and the seaweed crust was spicy. same spicy as before, not like an episode of hot ones or anything, but enough to ruin any last opportunity to actually taste the fish. it could have been tilapia and the dish wouldn't have tasted any different. (disclaimer: the menu does say "mushroom broth" under halibut and I should have known better. just know that this is served in a soup dish, plopped in the middle of broth. it is served with a spoon. this is mushroom soup with halibut.) I also had a Caesar, which was pretty bland, but I have no real qualms with that. that was expected, and at least that wasn't spicy. if you're staying at the lodge or hotel or resort or whatever they call it, you should eat here, but only because there are no close options. if you're passing through, keep passing. read more

We had spent two nights at Timber Cove Resort and ate here twice during our stay - breakfast and dinner. Coast Kitchen is part of Timber Cove Resort which means it shares the same beautiful Sonoma Coast backdrop. The view is STUNNING. We were at the end of June 2020 - so warm CA summer and during a global pandemic which means we sat on the patio. We also had our with us which also means patio. We were very lucky. During our breakfast yeh fog was still burning off so a jacket is recommended. The breakfast food was good. We ordered the two eggs any style and the eggs benedict. Both were solid but nothing to write home about. Husband also had a Bloody Mary - said it was good. Service was also solid. The entire staff had face masks on and the tables were a good distance away from each other l. Dinner - wow. Wow. We had a 5:15pm reservation which was very nice because we had the warmth of the sun shining us (WEAR SUNSCREEN). My husband had ordered the Pomrita which was a yummy margarita. We started with the mussels, chowder and gem salad. All were delicious. The mussels and the salad were my favorite. We then had the trout and halibut. Also solid. I saved room for the lemon tart dessert. I'd recommend! The service was again stellar. Our waitress, I wish I remembered her name was attentive yet not overbearing. We visited on a Thursday night and ordered the New York strip steak. It was overcooked, cut into small slices (approx 1/8 lb total) and served over a few soggy fingerling potatoes. The texture of the meat was stringy and there was no manager around to explain how disappointing our $200 meal was. I'm a local and have gone to the many different versions of Timber Cove for years, but hadn't eaten at Coast Kitchen since it became that. I came here for my anniversary, choosing to sit in the dining room rather than the lounge. It's very calm with romantic lighting, perfect for couples. I ordered the Halibut and my boyfriend got the scallops. Both dishes were some of the best food we've eaten at any restaurant in YEARS! The fish was perfectly cooked- crisp, slightly scrunchy edge, juicy, succulent, moist inside with wonderful fresh flavor. The carrots on the side were a show stopper! No mere side dish. I could have eaten an entire plate of just those carrots! His scallops were perfection and the wild mushrooms and sauce below were to die for. The service was great, the remodel is lovely. What a great experience. We rode two hours there and didn't know that there was a break between lunch and dinner at 3, and we got there at 10 til 3. No problem whatsoever, said Hermone (sp) our waitress. Service was awesome, and even though it was at the end of lunch, there was no rush feeling, all the food was great and well worth the ride. The drive is worth the views. This hidden place is so magical. As we came over the mountain from Guerneville i was regretting the long drive but when we arrived i was happy we did it. Whether you are spending the night or not, the resort has a great restaurant and lounge. The patio is awesome as well as the lobby bar. The drinks were great and the cheese and charcuterie were top notch. They also are very dog friendly so our furry friend was able to enjoy himself as well. read more

Inside the timber cove resort it's a quiet little dining room, be sure to make reservations or if you come right when they open you can grab a table, we were staying at the resort so it wasn't a problem coming early. The service by Bryan was the highlight of the evening. Bryan was very attentive and took initiative to comp our dessert since we weren't satisfied with our entrees. We ordered the mussels as an appetizer and had the king salmon + pork chop for entrees. -Mussels: fresh and pretty tasty but bread was burnt -King Salmon: Fish was too fishy and could have been better seasoned. Plating could have been improved. -Pork Chop: Doused with a sweet brown sauce that didn't go well anything on the plate. Highlight of the dish was the spatzle without the brown sauce. The sauce was attempting to be a char sui sauce but not...pork chop was seriously overcooked near the bone. -Comped chocolate bar: This was recommended by Bryan and very good. This was our 3rd visit over the past couple years. Unfortunately, the quality of the Coast Kitchen has dropped drastically. As there are few eating alternatives nearby, this is a real issue. On our last two trips, dining was the high point of our visit (other than the magnificent views and the Pacific Ocean, of course!). Since I checked into the Timber Cove Resort yesterday I've had dinner here twice and lunch once. All three of those meals were great. Due to the pandemic dining is outdoors only, which is fine since the patio here is spacious and well-heated with a fire pit and several mechanical torches. Off the regular menu I recommend the seafood cavatelli for dinner and the caesar salad with smoked salmon tor lunch. The wines by the glass menu is also excellent. read more

First let me say that all staff were extremely friendly and dining service went to great lengths to rectify our specific problem (comp'd TWO dinners!) but I felt I should give potential diners a heads up about some problems with eating at Coast Kitchen. 1. Dining room is comfortable but very casual. Acoustics are awful so if there's a group it will be very loud. There weren't enough wait staff so we weren't able to add to our order or to order another drink because we weren't checked on between courses. I finally went to the bar and got my own drink. The wait between courses was unacceptably long, and I understand this is not uncommon. 2. We had two breakfasts and one dinner in our room. EVERY order had something missing - the soup, cream for our coffee, toppings for the burger - or it was delivered cold. 3. The food is hit or miss. Steak and trout soup were great; salmon "wings" were unusual and fun; quinoa entree, Caesar salad with frisée were below average. For us, the food service had a negative impact on our stay, overall. So, if you go, it might be great, or you might have an unfortunate series disappointments, as we did. If you're staying for a few days, I'd recommend you work some dinner backups into your itinerary, like Sea Ranch and River's End. And definitely plan your evenings to be back in your room, watching the sunset with a bottle of wine. read more

In the age of Covid19, restaurant dining is truly a luxury. Coast Kitchen takes all the necessary precautions to ensure a safe, pleasant dining experience: masks, 6-foot distance between tables, outdoor seating, take-out/room service options. Most of the service is in the front of the hotel which is beautiful, but doesn't have a view :( Staff is very friendly and efficient. Now the food is good, solid. I don't know if I would make a special trip all the way out here, but it's solid Sonoma farm-to-kitchen kind of food. We had several things during our multi-day stay at Timber Cove and the best was the Snake River wagyu hamburger, deviled eggs and the mashed potatoes. The mixed drinks are outstanding. It's pretty expensive for the food and service, but I guess that's what happens in these strange times. read more

What a magnificent setting! On our way North, we stopped here for lunch. I read the menu in the car & was very excited to try the food. We ordered the Salmon wings, green salad, smoked trout chowder & chicken sandwich. The salad was lovely, just needed a touch more of the champagne vinaigrette. Most leaves were dry and it needed a proper toss. The salmon "wings" were delicious but there was very little meat. I loved the creativity of this dish, however, it might work better in a " Frutti Di Mare" situation with some easier-to-eat bites. (I don't mind working for things ie peel & eat shrimp, crab, etc., but the small yield left you wanting more of the tasty salmon) I didn't try the sandwich but my dining partner loved it. And finally, the dish I was most excited to eat: the smoked trout chowder. (which is so much fun to say!) I envisioned an abundant, flavorful soup filled with crumbled bits of smoked trout; Unlike other disappointing chowders that read like a potato or worse, milk soup. The soup was bland, no trout or too small to notice. No smoky flavors. No fish flavors. It could easily be a showstopper if there was a healthy amount of trout and some vegetables that merit a chew. It's chowder, not consommé. My disappointment with the chowder more than likely stems from obsessing about it in the car for 2 hungry hours with high expectations. Overall, the restaurant is stunning. It's truly an incredible spot. Beautiful design, cool vibe with records in the lobby. A post-meal, bluff walk to the Obelisk is also a must. My coffee was cold by the time the cream and sugar that I had requested arrived. You can't beat the view and the patio is nicely heated.
