Bacon jam pizza and cherry marg are so good! We also got the burnt onion pizza and it was lacking a bit of flavor

Coal Fire on Southport is easily one of my favorite pizza spots in Chicago. The pepperoni and whipped ricotta pizza is one of the best I've had in the city -- the balance of flavors is unreal and the crust is cooked perfectly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe in the Wrigley area is really cool, especially on a busy night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Pizzas come out fast and the service is always solid. Definitely a go-to spot.

Me and The Queen were looking for something to eat before going to a movie at The Music Box and were looking for something close by to grab a bite before the movie. We came across this joint and what a lovely discovery. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The night we were in there it was pretty quiet, but to be fair, it was late at night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor was on the dark side, so my photos may be on the dark side.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We decided to get the Charcuterie Board because we just love that as a food group. The board had prosciutto, coppa, speck, nduja, soppressata and assorted cheese & fruit, bread. The nice thing about this board is the option to get it in a full size for $28 or a half size for $20. For the price difference, we got the full size and took the rest home for a snack the next day. For the pizza we got the Vodka Meatball (mozzarella, vodka tomato sauce, meatball, basil, stracciatella, parmigiano reggiano). To say that this is a thin crust pizza place is an understatement. The crust on this pizza was cracker-like, so we are talking super thin. The overall flavor was nice and I loved the meatballs on top. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My only complaint about the visit is that it just so dark inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The reason there are duplicate photos in the review is because I needed my flash in order to see the food in the shots.Service was good and she got us in time to drop off leftovers in my car. I would definitely come here to eat pizza as I am not sure how well that super thin crust would travel if I had it delivered or did a pick up.

I've been curious about this place for some time but was never here at a time when it made sense to stop in. My friend thought this would be a good choice since we were in the area and had two hungry kiddos on our hands. They have a 90 minute time limit on tables, which is always a bummer of a rule when I encounter it even though I have rarely spent that long in a restaurant... it feels like you're unwelcome as soon as you step in. We started with some foccacia, which came with some garlic butter (yum). It was overpriced, though; $6 for four pieces. The pizza was good. We got one with pepperoni, jalapeño, and I think ricotta on it. It was nicely spicy but not overwhelmingly so. The kids got a children's sausage and they seemed to enjoy it too. I didn't realize how thin the pizzas were, and though I like the occasional thin crust, pizza this thin isn't typically my thing. Overall, though the food was good, it felt a bit overpriced. I would visit again if I was with someone who wanted to go here, but it won't be my go-to pizza place.

Pizza was very good. Had the red onion and sausage build. Very tasty and savory. I would like to try other pizzas because they have many options. Pleasant experience overall.

I've been to coal fire many times. Always delish. Great service, friendly. The pizza is ready fast with that chewy charred crust. Pistachio pesto & garlic with honey. We had them put the sasuage on one half. Great dressing on the ceasar salad. Crutons were so good. Crunchy but soft. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Old school pizza kitchen decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]High top tables on one side, regular tables on the other.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

A solid choice for dinner before watching a movie at the Music Box theatre. We did not have a reservation but were seated immediately and service was very quick. We ordered drinks and the sausage pizza. The pizza was absolutely amazing. Would definitely order from here pizza night.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a lot of street parking outside and lots of seating inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's tables for parties of 2-4 people and also large parties. Service was friendly and efficient and the pizzas came out really quickly. We ordered the funghi and the stracchiatella and sausage pizza. Both pizzas were delicious despite being very different. The mushroom pizza was garlicky and filled with umami from the mushrooms. The stracchiatella was spicy, savory and fresh from the red sauce and basil. Coal Fire has solid white sauce and red sauce margaritas pizzas. You won't go wrong with anything you pick here. I came here with a friend on a Sunday for lunch and we were seated pretty quickly. Definitely consider coming here for a great pizza option for lunch or dinner.

    Erica B.

We did takeout and got a Black & White pizza, a Pepperoni & Ricotta pizza, and a Caesar salad. The best item was definitely the Black & White pizza. Not too truffley and just cheesy enough. It was even better than I expected. The Pepperoni & Ricotta came with the ricotta on the side so I think it would've been better to get in person, but it was still pretty decent. Could've used some hot or sweet honey. The Caesar salad was just a classic Caesar, not especially good or bad. Ordering and pickup were both easy and the food came nice and hot!

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. I loved this place when I used to live in the city. The pizza is sooo good. My favorite is the black and white one. Came back here after a long time and tried the nduja pizza and loveeed it! Drinks are great. Great place to come on a warm day and sit outside. Service is quick which is really great.

Now just listen here. It's weird. I know it's weird, just stay with me the Pistachio Pesto Pizza. This is a sausage pizza with white sauce but the best part is this honey drizzle they do. The pistachio and pesto isn't overwhelming by all means and that's in a good way. A little bit of chili flakes on it does the trick We also got the Stracciatella and sausage and that was good as well. But seriously just try the pistachio pizza. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cozy environment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Gets loud and crowded at night but we were slamming za after a day of drinking so it was perfect for us![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

It was another great experience at Coalfire! The Sangria was a nice treat as we talked before the Margherita and Stracciatella & Sausage was served! Both thin crusts were delicious. Our server was friendly and professional. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat inside at a large window facing the street. The natural light was perfect.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Honey & Salami
    Jose C.

Called in an order for two pizzas. The staff was great. When one person was busy, another member steps in and helps the next customer. My only issue is with their pricing. They're charging an additional $2-$3 on the advertised price online and not honoring what they had posted. A lot of restaurants are doing this and they seem to be getting away with it. I ordered their Margherita pizzas as well as their Honey & Salami. Both pizzas were very delicious. The Margherita came with your traditional red sauce, mozzarella cheese and plenty of fresh basil. The crust had a nice char and perfectly cooked. The Honey & Salami was my favorite of the two. It had the same perfectly charred crust and came with mozzarella, tomato sauce, Sopressata, honey and Calabrian chile. A truly delicious pizza. You get a little heat from the sopressata and Calabrian chile, and seems sweetness from the honey. I wouldn't hesitate ordering both pizzas again.

Sadly, my last two in person visits have more closely resembled the frozen product they ship from their website. The most recent visit last week included 11 other family members who were "first timers" that had trusted my recommendation for the good stuff only to be disappointed by both the temperature and small amount of both cheese/sauce. We shared several large, medium and personal pies across the menu and I honestly can't say a single one measured up to the standard they have set for decades. The always delicious butter crust saved this from being a one star review, but my next visit to Chitown may not include another visit to any of the way too many locations.

It's still pretty basic with simple meat sauce and cheese, but I actually appreciated the simplicity--it was different without trying too hard. The highlight was definitely the BREAD for a starter! They push the Mediterranean Bread, and honestly, you should let them. It's enormous, blistered, fragrant, and arrives like a hot air balloon made of carbs. More importantly, it gives you something genuinely delicious to tear into while you wait for the pizza pot pies to emerge from whatever subterranean chamber they're baked in. It's both a starter and a survival tool. A reservation is non‑negotiable unless you enjoy contemplating your own mortality in a weekend crowd. The wait times can stretch so long you could starve to death before your name is called -- and the regulars will nod knowingly as they step around your skeleton. Plan ahead. The salads are comically oversized, the kind of portions that make you wonder if they're meant for a family of four or a single very determined marathon runner. But let's be honest: no one is here for lettuce. We're all here for the pizza pot pie, that molten, bread‑wrapped, cheese‑laden dome of joy that defies every attempt at categorization. It's not deep dish, it's not thin crust -- it's its own thing entirely, and that's the point. This is the place you bring out‑of‑town guests when you want to show them something uniquely Chicago without defaulting to the usual deep‑dish suspects. But it's also the place you come back to on your own, because once you've had that pizza pot pie, it lives rent‑free in your brain until you return.

I had my little stool with me, so I sat outside, took some pictures, and did some people-watching while I waited.
