I am extremely disappointed by my experience at this boutique in Redondo Beach. I visited the store…read morewith my daughters, excited to shop and support a local business. Unfortunately, from the moment we walked in, we felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. The employees closely followed us throughout the store and made us feel as though we were being watched because they assumed we might steal something. The treatment we received felt like racial profiling, and it was both embarrassing and hurtful. Rather than feeling like valued customers, we felt judged and singled out. Despite the uncomfortable atmosphere, I still made a purchase and bought a pair of earrings. However, that purchase was only a fraction of what I intended to spend. I came into the store fully prepared to buy multiple items and would have gladly spent considerably more. Instead, the employees' behavior completely discouraged me from continuing to shop. What makes this experience even more disappointing is that the store lost out on a much larger sale because of the way my daughters and I were treated. Customers should feel welcomed, appreciated, and respected--not scrutinized and judged. Had we been treated with kindness and professionalism, I likely would have purchased several additional items and returned in the future. I also noticed several other potential customers walk into the store and quickly leave without making a purchase. Customer service plays a huge role in whether people choose to shop and spend money, and unfortunately, that was severely lacking during my visit. I have never felt so profiled while shopping before, and it was a deeply upsetting experience. No customer should be made to feel uncomfortable because of their appearance, race, or background. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and provides better training to ensure that all customers are treated with respect, dignity, and professionalism. Sadly, what should have been an enjoyable shopping experience turned into one that left me feeling unwelcome, disappointed, and unlikely to return

I cannot get over some of the designer items I have found here at outrageous prices. I feel like I'm a winner every time I come here because I get beautiful pieces as such great prices. THE NOT SO GREAT: Selling. Their process must be working because their inventory is outstanding. But it's not great to sell here. They take little and the money they give you doesn't cover the gas cost to get there. A waste. Bring your stuff across the street to Uptown Cheapskate (who's shopping experience is...gritty, not in a good way) or up to Crossroads Culver City (the best of the best, in my opinion). Pants. How are the pants and denim organized? Un-discernable. Any method other than organizing by size is laughable. I don't even look at pants here ever because who has time to search for the size tags? Request to management: organize by size and watch how much quicker you move pants!

I went to 2nd Street to sell some clothes, and they do things a little differently. Usually when…read moreyou sell clothes, you get the option of cash or store credit. The only option here was cash. This was also the lowest I've ever been offered for clothes. Places like Plato's Closet, Buffalo Exchange, and Uptown Cheapskate give you way more for your items. They had a $1 pile, meaning items they were willing to pay me one dollar for. And then they had a 10‑cent pile, meaning they were willing to pay me ten cents for certain items. Yes, ten cents. For 10/12 pieces, they offered me around $6.30. It was laughable. Actually laughable. So if you're looking to sell your items for dirt cheap, this is the place. On a lighter note, they did have a lot of nice things for sale; secondhand, some new, some designer, really great quality pieces at good prices. I got a really nice pair of green cargo pants for $12. I recommend for shopping NOT selling.

Like the name suggests, local Redondo Beach boutique Ribbons is all about adornment, decoration,…read moredistinction and flair. In an era of corporate clothing behemoths and made-in-China sweatshop chic, Ribbons maintains the comfortable, casual vibe of a family-run, neighborhood store, with the individuality favored by fashionistas. Ribbons, in fact, has embellished the Riviera since the mid-80s' when stylish sisters (and South Bay natives) Debbie, Gail and Leah first set up shop, dressing generations of locals since. Ribbons continues to weave its distinctive thread through the fabric of the Village (Redondo's small, seaside business and retail community) with Leah's forerunning flair for fashion, fun and creative, community events such as monthly Torrance Beach drum circles and "First Thursday" style strolls first popularized in Portand and Seattle art circles a decade ago. Consider: Not only did Ribbons display funky, creative accessories and affordable fashions the store is known for during the recent Redondo Beach Street Fair, but also dancers and drummers provided original event entertainment and enjoyment. Such stalwart creativity contrasts the preponderance of live, mediocre music at the event, including an influx of corporate-sponsored, boring booths such as Sparklett's. The latter's failure to provide actual water for giveaway or sale sadly signifies the epic fail of local communities increasingly under corporate control (Starbucks, anyone?). Rumor has it, some sour, disgruntled shop owners even called the cops to report Ribbons drum circle that day, revealing that just because you're local it doesn't mean you're cool. Ribbons continues to create and inspire long after other small shops and franchises come and go. Mainstream mediocrity, albeit expected, is not the norm at Ribbons.
