I went to Uptown Cheapskate to sell some clothes. They took about 10 pieces and I got around $50 decent, I suppose. I also bought some tan I AM GIA cargo pants that were super cute, and a pair of acid‑wash grayish‑black utility pants that I thought were really cool. Selling with them is super quick and easy. I've sold there about three times now. The store is organized, easy to navigate, and the prices are decent. They never have a lot of shoes in my size though; I'm an 8/8.5 in women's, and that section is always sparse. They always have tons of 9s, 10s, 5s, and 6s... The staff is always stylish and friendly. Definitely my go to when I want to switch out wardrobe pieces since they let you trade for store credit or take cash. This time I took cash, but usually I choose store credit because you get a little more. read more

there are many reviews on here (as well as google) about this place being racist. they are all correct. at first, i had not ever made that assumption despite the negative experiences i had been having over the years. however, recently, i finally put it together. the white employees will look you dead in the eye and refuse to help you while continuously taking white customers who arrive and are ready AFTER you. this has happened to me on more than one occasion. that is how i know that these are not just accidents. there was one time in which i was told that it would take less than 30 mins to go through the bag that i brought. they started sorting through customers bags who had come in long after me. it had been over 2 hours and 30 minutes and i had not gotten an offer for my things. i didnt even bring a full bag. people who came in an hour after me were getting their offers ready. i asked the staff how much longer it would be since i needed to leave, and they said it would be about 30 minutes. absolutely not. i took all of my things back. guess what everyone who came in after me looked like? yep, white. i just chalked it up to awful service. another time, i had received a text message that my offer was ready and i was at the counter within less than a minute. white employee looked at me and looked away. then took another customer who came in after. i was like, okay, odd, but whatever. he finished up with her, i try to speak, he calls up another customer who is selling. she had literally walked into the store while i was waiting at the counter. i was there first. he finishes up with her, then starts taking ANOTHER customer who arrived after. at this point i am very upset because he keeps looking at me but does not acknowledge my presence. not even the courtesy to at least tell me to wait. these werent even people who had gotten their offers ready before me. i eventually made a confused expression/hand motion (id say something like a shrug) and he finally acknowledged me. i asked multiple people if i was crazy and if this was what i thought it was and everyone told me that i was correct. i was so distraught i even asked my parents about it. they told me that i obviously keep getting disrespected by this establishment and should never return. i will listen to them. and everyone who i have brought to shop here will be told not to return. so many people have had the same experiences with this place and i am not surprised. not only that, but they make so many exceptions to their "rules" for white people. dont even get me started on the absurd prices for a THRIFT store of all places. might as well stick a "whites only" sign outside. shame on you. read more

Uptown Cheapskate is this fully stocked, stuffed to the brim, place to grab your vintage clothing. This shop really has a lot of clothing! I mean, really a lot! They have tons of a little bit of everything. They have tons of women's clothing, tons of men's clothing, tons of T-shirts, and a whole lot of shoes. Really! A lot of shoes! The store is what I would say is a step above shopping at a thrift store. What they do here is, offer the best of the best of vintage clothing. So, when you go in here, you know you're going to find high-quality items. This is not to say that they're cheap. For some, their prices may be considered a little bit high. But, again, what you're getting is the best of the best of vintage clothing, and sometimes you have to pay for that privilege. Depending on what you're looking for, this store may very well have it. From my experience, this store is most commonly geared towards a younger audience. They have tons of T-shirts, jeans, and a lot of stuff that could be considered on the more casual side of the picture. For example, when I shop a vintage store, I'm commonly looking men's sport coats and suits, and stuff along that line. They really don't have a good selection of these items. This is just something to keep in mind if you're looking for that kind of thing. But, on the other hand, if you're looking for all of the more casual style of clothing, they have a lot of it. Located on Hawthorne Boulevard, this store is fairly easy to find. They have a parking lot in the front and the rear, which sometimes can become kind of full. So, you may have to park on the street. This is because of the fact this store is a very popular shop. A lot of people come here, particularly on the weekends. And, when they have their sales, forget about it. The store is packed. The good: Fashionable second-hand clothes! They have fitting rooms unlike some second hand stores! The clothes were well organized and by size. Everything was in really good condition. I liked that brands were grouped together. They had a huge 60% off area and a lot of trendy goods. The shoes were in great condition. There were tons of Dr. Marten shoes, Lululemon, Uggs, Free People and more. There's a large parking lot out back. I came on a Monday and there were a good number of people already. I wonder if they get crowded on weekends. The bad: The worker who helped me with the living room got her job done but wasn't necessarily the most pleasant. Good Afternoon, I went into the store and wanted to sell 2 dresses, 2 Trader Joe bags, 2 coats, and other items. I was looking around during the time they were doing the process. I was looking at the designer purses and planned on buying some things. There was a Coach purse that had a panty liner inside. I told the girl there was a panty liner inside. She looked confused and said "Panty liner?" and I said "Do you know what a panty liner is?" She said "Yes I know what a panty liner is." I said "Are you going to take it out?" She said "Are you going to buy it?" I said no and I didn't want the purse anymore. She said "Ok cool." Even if the panty liner was not used she should have still taken the panty liner out. Not just for me, but for the next person. This was around 11am today. I waited for an hour or more to see what the offer will be. I got a text message and went to the counter. She told me that they longer need winter items and that my Trader Joe's bag is valued $1.00 which was a rip off. The customer service is really bad and I wasn't even trying to be rude. The girls were literally mean and rude to me. All my items isn't worth $1.00. They knew what they were doing. Interesting place, very snug parking and pretty snug aisles inside the store. The clothing racks are packed so you have to really take your time to push through each item to find your hidden treasure. They have sale items from time to time, higher priced items inside cabinets and primarily clothing that appeals to the 15 to 25 year old crowd. But, there is also some sports team jerseys, sweatshirts, hats, etc. They might want to look into consolidating all the sportswear into one section (I found jerseys on one side of the store, sweatshirts on another, hats in the hat section (which actually makes sense)). If you are going there to sell some of your clothing, they say they will give you 30% of whatever they are going to list it for. I went in with about a dozen items (Annie Bing, Tommy Bahama, etc.) was surprised to see they only wanted to make an offer on two clothing items. I also brought in some women's boots and men's cowboy boots. They only wanted one pair of the women's boots. The worse part of the selling process is the wait. They only option they give you is to wait, close enough to the store to be available at the front desk within 15 minutes of when they are ready. I went during the week and there was only one person standing in front of me. Of course, there were several other people already waiting for their offers. You can wait (and shop) inside the store, or sit in your car and come back in when they text you. It took about 45 minutes to get my offer. Three items, offered less than $20 for all three. The rest I took with me and then donated it to Goodwill which is just down the street (on the same side of the street as Uptown). Overall, I will not be back to sell. Just wasn't worth my time to have most of the items returned. If you sit around and watch, you'll see other sellers leaving with fairly full bags. But, to their defense, they only want things they can sell relatively quickly. The store is packed, not much room for items that will sit. There's even a very large table area will bins stuffed full of clothes if you have the patience to dig through them. There's a chance you'll find something interesting, just depends on how much you like shopping for hidden treasures. I've sold here a handful of times over the years. They're super selective, so I'm always prepared that things I bring in they may not want. No big deal. I get it. Until today, I hadn't had an unpleasant experience. I watched the employee pull my items out of my bag by the handful, then stuff them back in my bag, unfolded and crumpled. I had seven items, including a like-new Levi's Jean jacket and Ralph Lauren polo, and it took about 3 seconds for her to comb through. Again, I don't care that they didn't take my clothes, but to throw them back in the bag and then tell me, "next time, make sure the clothes are freshly laundered," was a wild move. Like I said, I sell clothes a lot, and my clothes were clean. I wash them before I take them to sell. No stains, no wrinkles, nothing... It was pretty embarrassing to be told my clothes were dirty in front of a store full of people. Especially when it really wasn't true. Took my clothes to Second Street across the way and they bought every item but one. I am an Elementary teacher for LAUSD. My entire family shops at Uptown Cheapskate Torrance (Grandma included) Until last night. An employee basically screamed at me in a demeaning manner to put my purse behind the counter. Now mind you, l'd already been there for over 40 mins and my basket was completely full. My two children (college student & Redondo Union High) had their arms full too. In the past year no employee has ever asked me nor my family to keep our purse/money behind the desk. This is a great place to thrift shop for women's clothes if you're into that or to sell and donate your old clothes and shoes. You can bring a maximum of two bags of clothes per day. They're a bit picky with what they will accept to sell. It needs to be in really good condition and somewhat trendy. They give you an approximate wait time (usually 30-40 minutes for me) and then they text you when your payment is ready. You then have ten minutes to go back to the store to claim your credit. You can choose between getting cash back or store credit. Whatever they don't decide to buy from you, you can either take the clothes back or donate it to them and it goes to the VA. The service each time I come in the store is being less and less welcoming. Majority of the employees look overwhelmed, overworked, or just miserable. From personally working retail, the bare minimum of customer service experience here is hardly met. Service: I came around 4pm to do some selling of clothes. I read a lot of mixed reviews why they are not consistent with their pricing when you do sell. They buy according to what is the need of the store. Some items will be priced very high, some won't even take in. If it's busy, they probably wont let you do more than one bag, if catch them when its slow, then they might take on more. Just depends how many customers are in the store. Selection: when I go shopping there as a male, i look for jackets, sports gear and shoes. Decent amount of things to look for. I found the Storage exceptionally well organized. The check in process was very easy to keep their items sorted very conveniently and isles are even designed to accommodate people in wheelchairs.. I came here so a bunch of jeans. We all understand that a good portion of selling you building just to make sure that they're in condition they can bring sales for the establishment. I was not disappointed. I found the process to be very fair and most of the items in the store incredibly good shape I can see why this place is so popular.
