Uptown Cheapskate is this fully stocked, stuffed to the brim, place to grab your vintage clothing. This shop really has a lot of clothing! I mean, really a lot! They have tons of a little bit of everything. They have tons of women's clothing, tons of men's clothing, tons of T-shirts, and a whole lot of shoes. Really! A lot of shoes! The store is what I would say is a step above shopping at a thrift store. What they do here is, offer the best of the best of vintage clothing. So, when you go in here, you know you're going to find high-quality items. This is not to say that they're cheap. For some, their prices may be considered a little bit high. But, again, what you're getting is the best of the best of vintage clothing, and sometimes you have to pay for that privilege. Depending on what you're looking for, this store may very well have it. From my experience, this store is most commonly geared towards a younger audience. They have tons of T-shirts, jeans, and a lot of stuff that could be considered on the more casual side of the picture. For example, when I shop a vintage store, I'm commonly looking men's sport coats and suits, and stuff along that line. They really don't have a good selection of these items. This is just something to keep in mind if you're looking for that kind of thing. But, on the other hand, if you're looking for all of the more casual style of clothing, they have a lot of it. Located on Hawthorne Boulevard, this store is fairly easy to find. They have a parking lot in the front and the rear, which sometimes can become kind of full. So, you may have to park on the street. This is because of the fact this store is a very popular shop. A lot of people come here, particularly on the weekends. And, when they have their sales, forget about it. The store is packed. The good: Fashionable second-hand clothes! They have fitting rooms unlike some second hand stores! The clothes were well organized and by size. Everything was in really good condition. I liked that brands were grouped together. They had a huge 60% off area and a lot of trendy goods. The shoes were in great condition. There were tons of Dr. Marten shoes, Lululemon, Uggs, Free People and more. There's a large parking lot out back. I came on a Monday and there were a good number of people already. I wonder if they get crowded on weekends. The bad: The worker who helped me with the living room got her job done but wasn't necessarily the most pleasant. Good Afternoon, I went into the store and wanted to sell 2 dresses, 2 Trader Joe bags, 2 coats, and other items. I was looking around during the time they were doing the process. I was looking at the designer purses and planned on buying some things. There was a Coach purse that had a panty liner inside. I told the girl there was a panty liner inside. She looked confused and said "Panty liner?" and I said "Do you know what a panty liner is?" She said "Yes I know what a panty liner is." I said "Are you going to take it out?" She said "Are you going to buy it?" I said no and I didn't want the purse anymore. She said "Ok cool." Even if the panty liner was not used she should have still taken the panty liner out. Not just for me, but for the next person. This was around 11am today. I waited for an hour or more to see what the offer will be. I got a text message and went to the counter. She told me that they longer need winter items and that my Trader Joe's bag is valued $1.00 which was a rip off. The customer service is really bad and I wasn't even trying to be rude. The girls were literally mean and rude to me. All my items isn't worth $1.00. They knew what they were doing. Uptown Cheapskate had a great selection of fashionable, on-trend pieces and a really strong variety overall. They had everything from bags and brand-name items to shoes and so many cool vintage tees. Coming from Miami, the prices felt a little higher than what I am used to, but I also kept in mind that this is California and overhead is likely much steeper. Even so, the items we bought still felt worth it. What really made the experience even better was how kind and helpful every employee was. Interesting place, very snug parking and pretty snug aisles inside the store. The clothing racks are packed so you have to really take your time to push through each item to find your hidden treasure. They have sale items from time to time, higher priced items inside cabinets and primarily clothing that appeals to the 15 to 25 year old crowd. But, there is also some sports team jerseys, sweatshirts, hats, etc. They might want to look into consolidating all the sportswear into one section (I found jerseys on one side of the store, sweatshirts on another, hats in the hat section (which actually makes sense)). If you are going there to sell some of your clothing, they say they will give you 30% of whatever they are going to list it for. I went in with about a dozen items (Annie Bing, Tommy Bahama, etc.) was surprised to see they only wanted to make an offer on two clothing items. I also brought in some women's boots and men's cowboy boots. They only wanted one pair of the women's boots. The worse part of the selling process is the wait. They only option they give you is to wait, close enough to the store to be available at the front desk within 15 minutes of when they are ready. I went during the week and there was only one person standing in front of me. Of course, there were several other people already waiting for their offers. You can wait (and shop) inside the store, or sit in your car and come back in when they text you. It took about 45 minutes to get my offer. Three items, offered less than $20 for all three. The rest I took with me and then donated it to Goodwill which is just down the street (on the same side of the street as Uptown). Overall, I will not be back to sell. Just wasn't worth my time to have most of the items returned. If you sit around and watch, you'll see other sellers leaving with fairly full bags. But, to their defense, they only want things they can sell relatively quickly. The store is packed, not much room for items that will sit. There's even a very large table area will bins stuffed full of clothes if you have the patience to dig through them. There's a chance you'll find something interesting, just depends on how much you like shopping for hidden treasures. I am an Elementary teacher for LAUSD. My entire family shops at Uptown Cheapskate Torrance (Grandma included) Until last night. An employee basically screamed at me in a demeaning manner to put my purse behind the counter. Now mind you, l'd already been there for over 40 mins and my basket was completely full. My two children (college student & Redondo Union High) had their arms full too. In the past year no employee has ever asked me nor my family to keep our purse/money behind the desk. After that rudeness, we didn't buy anything. The fact that she argued with me over her barking tone was ludicrous. In the car I asked my children was it something they really wanted be one rotten monkey doesn't steal the show. And they did. So I went back in and purchased 2 items under $20- way less than I intended to spend before Christmas. I also asked the employees name and found out she's the OWNER!!! WOW! This is a great place to thrift shop for women's clothes if you're into that or to sell and donate your old clothes and shoes. You can bring a maximum of two bags of clothes per day. They're a bit picky with what they will accept to sell. It needs to be in really good condition and somewhat trendy. They give you an approximate wait time (usually 30-40 minutes for me) and then they text you when your payment is ready. You then have ten minutes to go back to the store to claim your credit. You can choose between getting cash back or store credit. Whatever they don't decide to buy from you, you can either take the clothes back or donate it to them and it goes to the VA. The service each time I come in the store is being less and less welcoming. Majority of the employees look overwhelmed, overworked, or just miserable. From personally working retail, the bare minimum of customer service experience here is hardly met. Plus, it feels like such a waste of time to come in, never be greeted, wait in line to be ignored by employees blatantly having person conversations in front of your face, and then an 1 hr later (no text was sent for my items being "done")--being dismissed unprofessionally after an evaluation on my items. They love fast and to be honest this is my favorite place to sell my items I no longer or want to. As busy as they stay, they move very quickly and they remain very professional to everyone. They buy according to what is the need of the store. Some items will be priced very high, some won't even take in. If it's busy, they probably wont let you do more than one bag, if catch them when its slow, then they might take on more. Just depends how many customers are in the store. Staff was extra friendly and informative about the selling process. I arrived at 10 am and the buying process took about 30-40 minutes for two bags of items. You're allowed to bring one big bag of clothes & a small bag of shoes or accessories. I got $110 for 30 items, which is pretty good as I was just going to donate my clothes. This place is amazing, it is one of the few thrift shops that is not over priced for basic clothes. They have a big selection of styles for any person and the prices are amazing. I have seen cute Levis jeans for like $15-$30 dollars in excellent condition. Definitely affordable while also providing cute clothes and accessories!!! They have brands like juicy, old navy, coach, Abercrombie and fitch, and many more. I found the Storage exceptionally well organized. The check in process was very easy to keep their items sorted very conveniently and isles are even designed to accommodate people in wheelchairs.. I came here so a bunch of jeans. We all understand that a good portion of selling you building just to make sure that they're in condition they can bring sales for the establishment. I'm still so confused by an interaction that happened when I tried selling my clothes. I brought in a Madewell dress, an Anthropologie dress and an Italian leather bag. When I returned back to find out what they were going to keep to resell the person says--"oh, I loved the boots, we'll give you $12 for them." I reminded her that I didn't bring in any boots and that I brought in two dresses and a purse. She said she still would only give me $12 for one dress and one purse, and then gave me the Anthropologie dress (worth $120) back to me. I'm just confused by the way they assess for pricing here. How could one dress and a purse be the same pricing as the boots she thought I had brought in. And it was the way she said it too, super casually with no acknowledgment of the mistake and no explanation as to why there was no price difference when I pointed out the mistake. Honestly, I wish I had said something in the moment, but I was so tired from waiting the hour to get my items assessed that I took the $12. Inconsistent service depending on who's on duty I'm a regular and I genuinely love this store--the selection and prices keep me coming back. On Labor Day (Monday) there was a long line, but the manager was on site and my clothing appraisal was finished in about 30 minutes. Smooth and organized. A few days later on Wednesday, there was no line and I was able to drop off my clothes quickly, but I ended up waiting about an hour for the appraisal. During that time, the front desk team was chatting, and the person appraising was joking around with a coworker. The manager wasn't there, and it showed. It felt a little rude to have customers waiting while staff weren't focused. I still love shopping here, but please be more considerate of customers' time--many of us are on work schedules and can't spend an extra hour waiting when it isn't busy.
