I went to Uptown Cheapskate to sell some clothes. They took about 10 pieces and I got around $50 decent, I suppose. I also bought some tan I AM GIA cargo pants that were super cute, and a pair of acid‑wash grayish‑black utility pants that I thought were really cool. Selling with them is super quick and easy. I've sold there about three times now. The store is organized, easy to navigate, and the prices are decent. They never have a lot of shoes in my size though; I'm an 8/8.5 in women's, and that section is always sparse. They always have tons of 9s, 10s, 5s, and 6s... The staff is always stylish and friendly. Definitely my go to when I want to switch out wardrobe pieces since they let you trade for store credit or take cash. I received $47 but ended up spending $15 of it on these two beauties. They don't let you use some in store credit and cash out the rest, it's either one or the other. They have tons of a little bit of everything. They have tons of women's clothing, tons of men's clothing, tons of T-shirts, and a whole lot of shoes. Really! A lot of shoes! The store is what I would say is a step above shopping at a thrift store. What they do here is, offer the best of the best of vintage clothing. So, when you go in here, you know you're going to find high-quality items. This is not to say that they're cheap. For some, their prices may be considered a little bit high. But, again, what you're getting is the best of the best of vintage clothing, and sometimes you have to pay for that privilege. Depending on what you're looking for, this store may very well have it. From my experience, this store is most commonly geared towards a younger audience. They have tons of T-shirts, jeans, and a lot of stuff that could be considered on the more casual side of the picture. For example, when I shop a vintage store, I'm commonly looking men's sport coats and suits, and stuff along that line. They really don't have a good selection of these items. Interesting place, very snug parking and pretty snug aisles inside the store. The clothing racks are packed so you have to really take your time to push through each item to find your hidden treasure. They have sale items from time to time, higher priced items inside cabinets and primarily clothing that appeals to the 15 to 25 year old crowd. But, there is also some sports team jerseys, sweatshirts, hats, etc. They might want to look into consolidating all the sportswear into one section (I found jerseys on one side of the store, sweatshirts on another, hats in the hat section (which actually makes sense)). If you are going there to sell some of your clothing, they say they will give you 30% of whatever they are going to list it for. I went in with about a dozen items (Annie Bing, Tommy Bahama, etc.) was surprised to see they only wanted to make an offer on two clothing items. I also brought in some women's boots and men's cowboy boots. They only wanted one pair of the women's boots. The worse part of the selling process is the wait. They only option they give you is to wait, close enough to the store to be available at the front desk within 15 minutes of when they are ready. I went during the week and there was only one person standing in front of me. Of course, there were several other people already waiting for their offers. You can wait (and shop) inside the store, or sit in your car and come back in when they text you. It took about 45 minutes to get my offer. Three items, offered less than $20 for all three. The rest I took with me and then donated it to Goodwill which is just down the street (on the same side of the street as Uptown). Overall, I will not be back to sell. Just wasn't worth my time to have most of the items returned. If you sit around and watch, you'll see other sellers leaving with fairly full bags. But, to their defense, they only want things they can sell relatively quickly. The store is packed, not much room for items that will sit. There's even a very large table area will bins stuffed full of clothes if you have the patience to dig through them. There's a chance you'll find something interesting, just depends on how much you like shopping for hidden treasures. There was no phone call recording, audio recording, or other evidence showing that I made the statement I was accused of making. I was later contacted by the store regarding the alleged statement, and I was told that I had said something that was completely false and inappropriate. I strongly dispute this allegation and maintain that I never made the statement in question. I have a complete recording of my conversation regarding this matter, as well as witnesses who were present and can support what actually occurred. The recording and witness testimony contradict the allegation that was made against me. What is particularly concerning is that the owner chose to side with the employees and defend the allegation without providing any evidence that I made the statement. Rather than properly investigating the situation and considering my side of the matter, the store appears to have accepted the employees' version of events as fact. I believe this conduct was completely inappropriate, unprofessional, and unfair. I should not be accused of making statements that I did not make, particularly when there is no recording or other evidence supporting the accusation. I am requesting that this matter be taken seriously and properly reviewed, including consideration of the complete recording and witness accounts. I want the false allegation against me to be corrected and documented accurately. I am prepared to provide the recording and identify witnesses who can support my account of what occurred. there are many reviews on here (as well as google) about this place being racist. they are all correct. at first, i had not ever made that assumption despite the negative experiences i had been having over the years. however, recently, i finally put it together. the white employees will look you dead in the eye and refuse to help you while continuously taking white customers who arrive and are ready AFTER you. this has happened to me on more than one occasion. that is how i know that these are not just accidents. there was one time in which i was told that it would take less than 30 mins to go through the bag that i brought. they started sorting through customers bags who had come in long after me. it had been over 2 hours and 30 minutes and i had not gotten an offer for my things. i didnt even bring a full bag. people who came in an hour after me were getting their offers ready. i asked the staff how much longer it would be since i needed to leave, and they said it would be about 30 minutes. absolutely not. i took all of my things back. guess what everyone who came in after me looked like? yep, white. i just chalked it up to awful service. another time, i had received a text message that my offer was ready and i was at the counter within less than a minute. white employee looked at me and looked away. then took another customer who came in after. i was like, okay, odd, but whatever. he finished up with her, i try to speak, he calls up another customer who is selling. she had literally walked into the store while i was waiting at the counter. i was there first. he finishes up with her, then starts taking ANOTHER customer who arrived after. at this point i am very upset because he keeps looking at me but does not acknowledge my presence. not even the courtesy to at least tell me to wait. these werent even people who had gotten their offers ready before me. i eventually made a confused expression/hand motion (id say something like a shrug) and he finally acknowledged me. i asked multiple people if i was crazy and if this was what i thought it was and everyone told me that i was correct. i was so distraught i even asked my parents about it. they told me that i obviously keep getting disrespected by this establishment and should never return. i will listen to them. and everyone who i have brought to shop here will be told not to return. so many people have had the same experiences with this place and i am not surprised. not only that, but they make so many exceptions to their "rules" for white people. dont even get me started on the absurd prices for a THRIFT store of all places. might as well stick a "whites only" sign outside. shame on you. read more

I am an Elementary teacher for LAUSD. My entire family shops at Uptown Cheapskate Torrance (Grandma included) Until last night. An employee basically screamed at me in a demeaning manner to put my purse behind the counter. Now mind you, l'd already been there for over 40 mins and my basket was completely full. This is a great place to thrift shop for women's clothes if you're into that or to sell and donate your old clothes and shoes. You can bring a maximum of two bags of clothes per day. They're a bit picky with what they will accept to sell. It needs to be in really good condition and somewhat trendy. They give you an approximate wait time (usually 30-40 minutes for me) and then they text you when your payment is ready. You then have ten minutes to go back to the store to claim your credit. You can choose between getting cash back or store credit. Whatever they don't decide to buy from you, you can either take the clothes back or donate it to them and it goes to the VA. I've sold here a handful of times over the years. They're super selective, so I'm always prepared that things I bring in they may not want. No big deal. I get it. Until today, I hadn't had an unpleasant experience. I watched the employee pull my items out of my bag by the handful, then stuff them back in my bag, unfolded and crumpled. I had seven items, including a like-new Levi's Jean jacket and Ralph Lauren polo, and it took about 3 seconds for her to comb through. I first found out about this place a year ago and got a nice amount of things for my Oregon trip including these beautiful burgundy docs that were already broken in for me which i loooved !! For buyers this place is amazing 10/10 After my Oregon trip i made a huge life style change and became vegan, that being said i slowly but surely made the decision to part ways with all my Dr Martins due to them being leather of course. It was super hard, especially for my newer ones that I didn't get to wear as much or break in.
