While our family dies still enjoy takeout from here, we are very disappointed to see how much the restaurant has changed. It's one single restaurant, I don't understand why certain foods aren't sold in the dining room side and just the bar side? You really can't serve a small cheese pizza to my young kids? It's like the want a mostly empty dining room to feel high class. I don't know, it's sad. No burgers either. We'll still order take out for now, but unfortunately won't be able to come back with company for dinner for a while. * service though is always great! Ah, The Coach Stop, where fine dining meets a budget airline's fee structure. My experience here could best be described as "Death by Surcharge." I ordered a $32 entrée (because, apparently, that's what basic meals cost here), and when I politely asked to swap asparagus for, well, literally any other vegetable, I was told it would be an additional $6. Six. Dollars. To switch sides. Even the asparagus looked embarrassed. But wait--there's more! After committing to this financial decision disguised as a meal, we were asked if we wanted a salad. Of course, that would be an additional $4. When they asked if we wanted bread, I couldn't resist joking, "Is that $4 too?" Spoiler alert: shockingly it was free. And the food? Let's just say it wasn't exactly worth the price of admission. The flavors were as underwhelming as a participation trophy, which made the nickel-and-diming all the more painful. It's pretty clear this place is run by one of those grumpy, stuck-in-his-ways owners who thinks charging extra for everything is a charming business model. Maybe he believes it's 1985 and people are still impressed by overpriced mediocrity--spoiler: we're not. So if you're into paying luxury prices for cafeteria-level food and à la carte everything (possibly including the chair you're sitting on), this is your place. As for me? I'll be taking my $6 vegetable swap elsewhere. Never again. read more

A hidden gem in the hamlet of East Hartland CT, this restaurant oozes with history, a welcoming aura, and wonderful aromas. I hadn't been to this location in over 15 years, and probably two businesses ago. The current owners have been here about six years, I'm told, and judging from the number of cars in the parking lot, are putting out some really good food. I can attest to that. I sat at the bar, where Julianna took my order of a MW Station Burger with crispy fries. The burger was perfectly cooked, and had a definite charbroiled taste. 8 ozs of perfection between a substantial (not flimsy) bun. And loads of Heinz ketchup, because ketchup is a vegetable (and I put ketchup on my ketchup).Fries were nice and crispy. Good beer selection. The vibe was a low murmur, lively but def not deafening. The crowd at the bar was very friendly. One lady to my right seemed to be a regular, and rated her chicken francaise 5-star. She even allowed me to take a picture of it (posted). Another friendly group of three (definitely regulars) seemed to really enjoy their pizza. All of us shared tips on where to go in the area for bbq, Mexican, etc. Julianna provided great service with a smile. Overall, really good food, good value. Very clean. Lots of outdoor seating. Tried to message them, but there is no option to message. Posted this to their Facebook and no response. We went there on New Year's Eve to celebrate my mother's birthday. There were 4 adults and one 9 year old. They were so very unaccomodating with the child's portion and with accomodating a small vegetable switch. I decided then I was not returning. My parents have always loved this place and did return this past weekend. After this, though, they won't be back either. My mom needs a low salt meal. They refused to accomodate this medical request, claiming everything is preseasoned. I know how easy this would have been to do and they refused. I hope they realize that this is the first time she has been out to dinner in months and now is so depressed and giving up going out. This illness has taken a toll and a night out was what she needed. So, a cranky, unaccomodating chef and a clueless wait staff ruined this. Not to mention, they need to control the flys hanging around the dining room. Do better! read more

First time dining here, beautiful restaurant & amazing wood entryway with patio seating. The atmosphere is cozy & charming. The waitress was very friendly. They were short staffed in the kitchen so she explained we couldn't put in an app or meal order for 30 minutes. We were fine with that, she brought a basket of bread & drinks to get us started. We ordered the Brussels sprout appetizer, Chicken cordon bleu and chicken francaise. The portions were large & the app and meals were great. Very fresh & flavorful. Unfortunately, the dessert was below average a we tried the cheesecake & carrot cake. The carrot cake had something in addition to the carrots, raisins & nuts - possibly pineapple? read more

You will see mixed reviews and I think that is due to lack of consistently lately. The menu has changed twice since January, so it's understandable that they're just trying to figure out what works with the rising cost of food. With that being said, The Coach Stop is a little hot spot on Friday and Saturday nights...so yes, you will wait a long time for your food and service perhaps. We have loved the food and service and we have not loved the food and service.....but it's the neighborhood spot, so like any relationship, it might not be 100% all the time. We have loved our food more so than not in general and last week we loved it ........and I will say that their wings are better than the Royal Coachman's wings. read more

First and foremost the food is very good. One time we went on a Sunday right when they opened and the clam chowder was cold (because they forgot to turn on the soup warmer) and last night my steak was well rather than rare (probably because they were busy), besides those two minor things the food is very good and large portions. IMO the service has struggled since the day they opened. In the beginning the kitchen seemed to really struggle, probably from lack of staff(?) but the menu was very large back then, and if a menu is too big it overwhelms kitchens. They have trimmed the menu but there are still plenty of variety of selections. The waitresses have always struggled there just does not seem to be enough of them. Last night seemed like only two handling a pretty large crowd. And there in lies the trick, if you go when there are not a lot of customers there is never a issue (from my experience), but if the parking lot has a lot of cars, don't stop unless you want to wait a long time for the waitress and expect your dinner to take a hour to get to you. I had plans with someone last night so I had to go when it was crowded and the wait was painful. I much rather go during the day on a weekend. read more

I have to say not sure how people give this place anything above a 2 and that's being generous. The food is absolutely terrible. Calamari tasted as if it was fried two days earlier, same with the potato skins. I don't want to keep describing the rest of my meal as it wasn't good. Spent 125 with tip. We had their Tuna special which was outstanding and there chicken parmigiana which was easily enough for two meals. The pistachio ricotta cake to finish off the meal was the best!! Beautiful ambiance, great food and service. It's worth the drive. We had dinner here several times and the real star is the historic feel of this cozy restaurant. The multiple wood burning fireplaces set the stage for a great evening on a recent snowy weekend. The food is very good, and the service is professional and personable. I visited the Coach Stop after playing golf with my buddies. We had a beer on tap in a frosty mug and saw a few people eating a Pizza and it looked good, so we ordered one. It was excellent. The service was good. Pizza took a half hour to make but other than that, I would recommend the place. read more

Went in last week after relaunch with new menu. Had calamari which was nicely battered and seasoned. Was crisp nice and hot. The portion was perfect for an appetizer. Then got the blackened chicken alfredo . It had plenty of chicken which was nicely seasoned and cooked. Was not dry or over cooked. Had fresh broccoli which was not soggy. The pasta was aldente so it was prepared for our meal. Very good experience. read more

What a hidden gem! A true local tavern. Covid has hit many businesses hard, here too. As we walked in, the sign said they were short staffed and expect a long wait. First of all, our server was a sparkling and spectacular woman who worked her ass off! (Excuse my French!). The atmosphere is wonderful in this old building. In the winter, fires in the fireplaces will add even more. So if things were going to take a long time in the kitchen, the atmosphere, the drink service and a little charm from the waitress erased it! We started with some appetizers. The French onion soup is great! Cesar salad is huge. The calamari were good too. (A tad overdone, but only one cook in the kitchen). We had chicken parm, a fish special (shrimp, mussels, and scallops in a risotto), steak, and short ribs. All were excellently prepared and presented nicely. Served with a smile from our hard working waitress. Dessert was great too! Cannoli, chocolate cake and cheesecake- all great - some came home too! So overall, the Coach Stop checks all the boxes! Great atmosphere, great service, and great food! It truly is a little gem hidden in the hills of Connecticut in Hartland. I can't wait to come again! Nice little bar too! In honor of my 20th yelp review, I thought I would tell it like it is about "The Coach Stop"... *Horrible Service *Expect to wait over an hour for your meal, and having to ask for more drinks while you're waiting in a dead dining room *Bring your own seasonings *Insanely overpriced It's summer in New England and the menu isn't even reflective of what's is at our fingertips. No flavor on any course (calamari, salad, pizza, seafood, pasta), zero care or passion with the presentation, the salad was a sorry excuse for a fresh veg, and the waitress acted like working was the last thing on her mind. As a local to the area, it's really unfortunate that this opportunity and space is being utterly wasted!! I will NOT be back and I will make sure they anyone who asks is redirected to drive an extra few miles to The Barn, because that place is worth your heard earned cash! read more

I have to say that I am very disappointed. With Coach Stop being the only restaurant around the area, it sucks to say that our time there has come to an end. Some of the waitstaff is good, but there are a couple that are just drama and trouble. Megan was a new bartender and was phenomenal until they fired her due to the smallest things, basically bullying her to try to get her to quit until they fired her. The owners of this place are a joke and treat their staff with no respect. They overcharge and scam people, and the biggest thing of all, they are homophobic and racists! The things my husband and I hear are astonishing and should never be said! When you go to a restaurant, the staff is the face of the place. when you have the owners lurking around trying to control everything, it doesn't work out. The bartender serves drinks and shots as well as food. Not at this place... the owners say " no shots! it's not that kind of restaurant". On top of all the drama that is caused there INFRONT of customers, the food is subpar and completely over priced. read more

Tried the Coach Stop again tonight. We had appetizers and a few drinks. Calamari was over cooked and BLAH.....teriyaki chicken wings came out cold and cover in cold teriyaki sauce, 4 carrot sticks and ranch dressing. All very bland , cold and extremely disappointing. read more

Ordered a pizza over the phone and the guy on the call was very rude. I think he was upset that I was ordering as they just opened at 4PM and the time was 4:07PM. Anyways, I stopped by to pick up the pizza and talked to a pleasant waitress and then a guy showed up around the back of the restaurant and asked if I was there to pick up a pizza. I told him the pizza was for me and he rolled his eyes and went back to retrieve it. He was obviously the one I spoke to. Once he handed the pizza to me I had a feeling of disgust. He made me feel like I was not supposed to be there or something. Ultimately I wanted to throw the pizza in his face because he was extremely rude from phone call, to in person but I took the pizza nonetheless. It was overcooked and I swear there was an half eaten pepperoni. This guy needs to be fired. read more

I truly love this restaurant! The cozy ambience makes every dining experience a pleasure. I have dined in the dining room and in the tavern and both were lovely. I have had "fancy" meals and they were wonderful. I also LOVE the Coach Special PIZZA - it's divine! They have a great selection of draft beers. The service is always good. We live about 30 minutes away and willingly make the drive to the Coach Stop as often as possible. read more

We dined here tonight. We chose to dine in the bar area. There is a covered outdoor patio too. The menu offers a good variety of apps, salads, pizzas, sandwiches and entrees. I little pricey than I thought I read. But after our sandwiches we ate I'm sure well worth the price. Started out with two beers. Ordered the fried calamari and peppers for an app. Tasty, a bit chewy and not greasy at all. I ordered the beef short rib sandwich with onion rings. The beef was SO tender. The melted cheese, mushrooms and ciabatta roll with the beef was a perfect flavorful sandwich. My boyfriend ordered the grilled chicken on a ciabatta roll with honey chipotle aioli with onion rings also. The onion rings were not greasy at all. His was very good too. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely suggest this place to all and will come back. read more

The atmosphere - wood burning fireplaces in an old crossroads tavern deserves a 5th star. The food which is solid but uninspired deserves 3. Portions are good sized with an emphasis on Italian and pub food. It can be busy and raucous at prime times. Our favorite time is early Saturday or Sunday afternoons. read more

We went last night and they were not busy. First we sat for over 5 minutes before I had to get up and get menus. The positive, the draft beer was very fresh. We were a party of 4 and if we split one meal between two people there was an additional charge. We were not splitting the meal because we didn't want to pay for another meal we were splitting because we were not that hungry at 9:00 at night and did not want to bring home leftovers. This policy is bad customer service. We split meals all the time and we have cocktails which definitely increases the bill. Now for the food. I desperately wanted to like this restaurant, as there are so few dining options less than 30 minutes from our home, but I'm sorry to say Coach Stop has a long way to go before it earns my praise. I've read the other reviews that have been posted, and one common thread I've seen is sadly, many people judge a restaurant by the size of the portions, where I prefer quality over quantity. If you happen to fall into the first category, then take this review with a grain of salt, but if you are like me and appreciate well thought out food, prepared professionally and creatively, then read on. My husband and I went with another couple on a Wednesday night, and in spite of the parking lot being nearly full, we were seated right away. Our server was very busy, as they were understaffed that evening, but nevertheless I have no complaints about the timing of the service under the circumstances. Our first clue that perhaps the restaurant food had some issues was the 'versatility' of the menu. Escargot and eggplant parmigiana do not belong on the same menu! Don't try to be all things to all people or you'll just end up falling short on everything. This is not a diner. We ordered a bruschetta appetizer to be shared by the four of us. It arrived looking more like a pizza...VERY large and not at all crispy. I can't imagine that appetizer being ordered by one person, as they would certainly have no room to eat anything else. Even with the four of us, we didn't finish it. It was not, by any stretch of the imagination, bruschetta. I mentioned it to our server and she graciously accepted the feedback and hopefully communicated it to the chef. I ordered shrimp and scallops over noodles. It was smothered in sauce, and the noodles were sticky and stuck together. My husband and friend ordered lobster ravioli which was also smothered in sauce, and pales in comparison to the lobster ravioli at Nora's in Southwick. Our other friend ordered some kind of steak dish which was equally unremarkable. Wine servings, unlike food, are happily accepted in large portions, and The Coach Stop gets high marks in this category. :) I'm writing this review as much for the chef as the general public. I want this restaurant to succeed and hope they will streamline their menu and focus on a specific cuisine, whether that's Italian, American or French (or whatever). As for us, until the menu is improved, we will limit our visits to the bar area and hope the burgers are up to snuff. read more

I finally got a chance to try this place after passing it a couple of times and always seeing cars in the parking lot. The place didn't disappoint. We (2) sat in the bar area after being given a choice of bar or dinner area. The bar atmosphere was pub like, bordering on sports bar. Four TVs adorned the room, but the topic was mostly the upcoming Replican National Convention in Cleveland, and not anything about the Cavs. Service was without a hitch, both efficient and friendly. The food was also quite good. Of the fare I tasted: Apple salad: fresh and tasty Fries: Excellent (this from a non-potato fan) Pulled Pork Sandwich: Rather good Fish and Chips got high marks from my London loving, F&C loving dinner companion. I'll be back, and if this place could impress me again, it could easily earn that elusive fifth star. read more

We went with the kids shortly after it opened. First, the new owners are great neighbors, they hired people from all over, and they serve pizza to go! What's more to love? My husband had the chicken Marsala, my oldest son the fettuccine Alfredo, my younger son had the lobster ravioli, and I had a Gorgonzola tortellini dish. We split the calamari and didn't have dessert. Service was friendly but slow. It seemed as though our waitress was inexperienced. Still, she was very nice about it, which is rare these days. The food was good, not great, and given the price it's not quite worth it. That said, the calamari was hot, fresh, and not chewy but cooked at too high of a temp. The Marsala was a big serving, perfectly done. My tortellini was too chewy and swimming in sauce. It was supposed to be a fresh pan sauce, on the light side. It was neither. My teenager did not like the Alfredo - pasta was fresh but the sauce bland, too rich, and too much of it. The lobster ravioli was undercooked with too much sauce like my tortellini. Dinner took 90 minutes and was a bit sluggish though it was busy. All in, the Coach is a nice restaurant better than most. Service will improve with experience. I hope they keep the menu fresh and seasonal. Pizza to go was good - shrimp pizza was a mistake, crust was too dry/crisp, but the veggie pizza was delicious and very fresh. Wonderful ambience.
