I have been a ballet instructor for 17 years and hold a MA in Dance Education. I know nothing about baseball but a bit about teaching and hold a lot of experience teaching little ones through kinesthetic learning. Capturing and maintaining the attention of little minds is important to get them to "drill the skill" but doing it in a fun and engaging way is imperative. This is where Coach Ballgame knocks it out of the park. Player nicknames, silly costumes, a drum that both he and students have a chance to beat on, signature phrases, dance breaks, catchy songs and the coveted baseball cards (which he generously hands out to the kids throughout class to acknowledge a job well done) are just some of the ways he patiently teaches baseball skills. The hour practice is engaging, productive, and fun. He handles a range of learning styles and abilities flawlessly meeting the needs of all the students. Without a doubt the kids are learning the game but most importantly the kids are learning to love the game. My five year old twins talk about Coach Ballgame all week long. Great coach who knows baseball. He is great with kids and keeps the kids focused & engaged. At the same time your kids will learn, improve and have fun. Both of my boys (8 years apart) have had 1:1 with Coach James. No matter the age, he is really great at helping kids with their skills. The kids "get" it when Coach is teaching them the game & why a skill is done a certain way and why another way doesn't work. Our son started going to Coach James 3 years ago (at 7 yr. old) and we are so happy to have found such a POSITIVE and supportive coach! He has learned the proper form for catching, hitting, fielding, pitching etc in a fun and kid friendly environment. One of a kind! I could not ask for a better coach when it comes to the introduction of baseball, teamwork, and learning the sport. The fact that my kids have been talking non stop about the summer camp they attended this week makes my heart so happy. I cannot tell you how amazing this camp is. Our boys were never passionate about a sport (and that's okay) but we wanted to motivate them, to spark the fire so to speak, and @coachballgame did more than we could ever have expected. This week was nothing like we had ever seen before. What the coach did with these kids in one week is more than I've seen most little leagues do with teams in a season. By the end of the week our boys were looking like baseball players and truly enjoying the game. All of the boys were playing like a team. Their batting, catching and throwing improved. To see where they were before camp and then after, was like night and day. And they learned it all through having fun. To see them hustle, volunteer for things and just have fun was such a blessing. If I had to describe this camp in two movies it would be Little Rascals and The Sandlot. In addition to learning the basic skills of playing baseball the boys learned about very talented players who worked hard and never gave up. Players such as Roberto Clemente and Jim Abbot. They learned how to be good team players and how to persevere. There are only so many childhood memories that stick out to you as you get older, and my heart tells me this week will be one of those memories for the boys What started as a random Google find has now become a soon to be summer tradition. I highly recommend this camp to EVERYONE. Baseball fan or not, your child will get to experience one of the best weeks of their young life. He stopped being afraid of the pitches and started hitting in games, he even got a grand slam this season. Coach Ballgame runs an absolutely fantastic camp. My 7 year old just finished his second camp with him and my 9 year old softball player just did her first camp with him. Both kids loved it and my daughter was almost disappointed that she had to go back to playing softball. Coach Ballgame teaches character development and the fundamentals to being a good teammate - skills that are often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of youth sports. Every night, the kids are assigned "homework" on inspirational ball players (e.g. Jim Abbott, Roberto Clemente).
