CM Chicken is a very well known restaurant for Korean style fried chicken in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and now in New Jersey! Their newest location located in Montclair, NJ is a casual and trendy must try for fried chicken lovers! I ordered the tikku red hot chicken, soy green onion chicken, soy garlic gizzard, calamari, fried shrimp, and milkis (Korean soda). All of the chicken and gizzard pieces were tender, crispy, and juicy--even fully white meat pieces! The crunchiness of all the dishes is unmatched and oh so satisfying. The tikku red hot chicken is my favorite, being spicy without an overbearing gojujang (Korean red pepper paste) taste paired with a subtle after-taste of honey which further highlights the spice! The soy green onion chicken had a savory but fresh taste due to the yummy mass of green onions on top. The soy garlic gizzard is the perfect dish to pair with beer and conversation, which is great since CM Chicken is BYOB! The waitress Ruqayyah and the manager Eric were the only two people serving and cleaning tables (they are currently hiring), and they both did a great job tending to a busy and nearly-full restaurant environment. We got takeout for soy garlic tikku tenders (boneless) and waffle fries (note: came with daikon on the side as well complimentary) . First off, the takeout containers were ingenious: paper box with tinfoil to keep warm and a hole to let steam out and prevent soggy food. Second, the food was delicious. We got the spicy garlic wings and the snow onion original wings. Preferred the snow onion since that sauce was bomb dotcom and we are an onion loving family. Also preferred the original fried chicken over the saucy option which had more of a processed flavor. Both were insanely juicy and perfectly fried tho. Onion rings were not oily and big pieces of onions (was not exaggerating our love of onions). I may do takeout in the future. The place was clean and comfortable but maybe there was a dive bar in this location before CM opened. It's still got that smell if you know what I mean. I don't like places that say there chicken is crispy and get it and it's soggy so this place definitely captured all my expectations. Ordered the original fried wings and the Tikku soy garlic tenders. They were both really good! This place is absolutely fantastic. My friends and I ordered the flavored spicy garlic tenders and the tikku soy garlic, curry and red hot flavors. We were thoroughly impressed with the quality of food that CM Chicken provided, especially because this was a take out order. The meat to breading ratio is great. We were on Bloomfield Ave and spotted this new spot in the former El Piquin and other restaurants. Greeted at the door and we ordered some takeout: fried chicken and couple of sides (coke slaw and pickled radish). The chicken is really good, hacked into small yet neat pieces. Very crispy and juicy. I just heated a piece in the air fryer (a leftover) and it came out great. Next time I will order fries and a more spicy exotic chicken dish. This Korean fried chicken joint is a hidden gem in Montclair. I had the Tikku soy garlic chicken and seasoned spicy soy garlic chicken tenders. Both were amazing and I thought the spicy tenders were a bit sweet too. I would recommend trying the Tikku soy garlic chicken- they charcoal grill the tenders to give them a distinct fire-y taste. 10/10 would go again. read more

If you are craving perfectly fried and breaded chicken - this place is your spot. They have mastered the art of fried chicken - if you like spicy or not, they will help you get what you want. The staff there is good about answering questions. We had the onion rings, waffle fries, regular fries all perfectly cooked and were steaming on the inside when it arrived. I went this past Saturday and it was just as yummy! I have their tenders in original, soy garlic and soy garlic tikku. The tikku has more spice than the regular soy garlic. So if you like spice this is for you! The chicken itself is Crispy with a capital C. It is juicy well seasoned and yummy! The sauces are balanced. The amount of sauce to chicken is perfect! Was excited to try this place out after watching them prep the opening for months. Ordered 2 chicken sandwiches (one regular, one spicy ginger) -- received 2 regular. Also ordered some tenders spicy ginger. The sandwiches were mediocre; the flavor of the spicy ginger was not bad though. Too bad the order was wrong. Their fried chicken is amazing! Perfectly tender on the inside and super crispy on the outside. We got the regular with no sauce or extra flavoring and it was so flavorful. Montclair fried chicken fans - rejoice! I've tried out a lot of fried chicken in the area and this is by far my favorite. First a quick rundown of the spots I've tried. There's two sit-down restaurants that currently offer fried chicken dinners. Both are Southern Fried Chicken and both are good, but one is better IMO. There's a couple of Southern Fried Chicken grab-and-go joints; the one that's not the national chain is good, not great. I haven't eaten at the national chain. I've tried finding Korean Fried Chicken in the area too. One Korean place in the area seems like it has good Korean food, but the wings I had there were terrible. There's another spot in the town next door that has solid Korean Fried Chicken. But, like I said, CM Chicken tops them all. First, it's a grab-and-go place (you can eat there if you want as well), it's not a sit-down, table-service place. So, if the craving hits, you can just go in and get your food quickly. Second, there's all kinds of flavors and toppings. I tried the Garlic Spicy 1 pound box, a classic choice, which was delicious. I did take-out and I knew I was in for a treat when the I took my first bite at home and the chicken was still deliciously crunchy. It's a generous portion. I also had the waffle fries and a side of rice - both good. I couldn't finish the box, so I had the rest for lunch the next day and they were still mostly crispy! So good. I'll be going back over and over. I do wish they had some more side veg options like coleslaw or pickled Korean vegetables, but maybe it's just because it's a new place and the menu will get tweaked. When I posted my review, I saw some pictures that have pickled radish, so maybe those just weren't available when online ordering yet. One funny thing: it's in an old Mexican restaurant, so most of the decor is decidedly still Mexican. Korean is one of my top ten cuisines and I'm thrilled we now have a Korean chicken spot in Montclair. The server asked if I wanted him to explain the menu and graciously went on to tell me about the chicken flavors. I was glad to see that they offer banchan - the best pickled white radish I've ever had, and also some fresh carrot and celery sticks with ranch dressing. I so appreciate the way Korean cuisine is offered in a very organized manner; in addition to the two banchan, I received an extra plate on which to serve myself some of each. I ordered very fresh and delicious fried pork dumplings, then the tikku red hot chicken tender burger - a mildly sweet and hot and garlicky flavor combo, topped with excellent Korean-inspired coleslaw. I need to find a friend next time to share an order of drumsticks with. Next time I might order rice as a side instead of fries for authenticity. My server going ahead of me to hold the door open as I left was a nice touch. I really hope this place sticks around. read more

I ordered soy garlic wings. The chicken was tasty but was very soggy and not crispy as most places like Bonchon or Boom Boom Chicken. this review is just for to go. first thing, if you're driving it will be a pain trying to find a spot even for waiting so either dine in or bring someone along to go down and pick up. had high expectations due to good reviews and it would've been awesome if this is my first time to eat korean chicken. ordered the original and soy garlic. original is good but not better than bbq chicken, same for the soy garlic but not better than bon chon. their competitors have an easier access to take out(either own parking or less busy area) so that will keep us from ordering here. prices are almost the same or even slightly higher so it makes no consolation on picking them. packaging is nice, probably the best among korean fried chickens that ive tried. overall a good korean fried chicken place if you're already in the area or if youre lucky enough to find parking read more
