I was Pilates curious about a year and three months ago (hint: this is how long I've been with Era…read morePilates now), and was trying to decide which of the listed choices to try out. I was lucky that there was a manageable amount of options to choose from, and the reason why Era initially stood out to me was the individual and small capped class sizes. I remember when I first called, I was so nervous as I said I wasn't a "pilates" body. Mary, the owner, was the one who answered my call, and firmly told me everyone was welcomed to do pilates. I was still a little skeptical, but signed up for my first initial session and was paired with Hali. I remember being intimidated initially by all the apparatus, but Hali walked me through them with ease, but I also remember getting my butt thoroughly kicked by that session. As I enjoyed it, and wanted something physical to my routine, I told myself to give it six months before finding something else to do. It's quite obvious that I love Pilates, seeing how I'm past a year doing this. I have had Hali as my private instructor this entire time, and have faithfully been seeing her on a weekly basis, unless vacations or holidays pop up. From the time I started to now, I know there's a huge difference, one of the biggest being that I no longer have lower back pain. I know my core is stronger since I constantly engage it, nearly automatically, when doing other physical tasks. When I first started, roll ups were something I struggled with, and now, I am able to articulate going back down and up. Every session is a challenge, but I always leave it feeling stronger and taller. I can even say from this latest lesson, I know I've grown. Hali constantly pushes and challenges me, whether I want to or not. She does a great job breaking down what we are doing, to make sure I understand the what and the why. I also appreciate her hands-on approach to corrections and feedbacks, as it's the fastest way for me to understand and ensure that I align myself correctly. I had the opportunity to also take one of Valerie's group classes. While a different style, she was a great instructor providing verbal feedback and ensuring the class was a challenging one. I haven't had the opportunity to follow up with more classes with Valerie due to my schedule, but I hope to visit her sessions when I am able to. I love the vibes and space that Era provides and hope that I continue to practice with Era for a long time!

The workouts are intense but manageable, I feel like my body is actually working hard & the burn the next day is what makes me come back. About halfway through the session, whatever body part we are working is SHAKING (or should I say trembling). The owner is so kind & you can see and hear her passion. Tremble will go far & they're just getting started. I signed up for an unlimited membership which allows me unlimited classes, being able to schedule 30 classes in advance to make sure I get in the classes I want, with the reformer I want. Definitely come try them out, it's better under the red lights.

As soon as I walked in the door I felt the calming atmosphere and immediately began to relax. There are some larger rooms for yoga, pilates and other assorted classes as well as some massage rooms. Merced was super thorough and did a great job on all my problem areas (I carry all my stress in my upper back and shoulders). She catered the massage to what I wanted specifically while still doing whole body work. She used essential oils to enhance the experience and make sure I felt the effects for the rest of the day! I am really interested in finding out more about the massage yoga. From what I've heard, it's a guided class where you hold the poses for extended periods of time and then Merced comes around and massages certain muscle groups while the pose it held. I think it sounds awesome! Between that class and other yoga classes, the monthly fee to attend any class is so worth it.

I was so relaxed and restored after our restoration class, and the environment helped me completely clear my mind. I felt so comfortable with the teacher, Paulette, and her method of teaching is very calm and relaxing. She introduced me to new ideas regarding my breathing technique and I felt so much clearer and lighter after the practice. Whenever I am in Carmel I will definitely try to stop in when possible!

The cold towel on my forehead after a hot session is also a favorite of mine. They offer a free class online to check them out, they offer a class pack, or monthly setup. The app is easy to use to schedule classes. I just wish they had more evening classes, and a location in Westfield :) sometimes the classes can get a little full. But a full class is better than no class for me :)

Supposedly, the room is kept at 90 degrees, and I could feel all 90 degrees. I'm not used to practicing hot yoga, and I don't think it will be a daily part of my practice, but it's nice to know that The Yoga Studio offers such a nice space for hot yoga when the mood strikes me. The instructor, Rick, was great. It was my first time visiting, so we chatted outside of the yoga room about what to expect: In his class, he starts with a led Sun Salutation A, then lets you go on your own, then a led Sun Salutation B, then lets you go on your own. The second half of the class is a fully led practice, with lots of variety. The room is small, but apparently they can fit 25 people in it! My class only had 12, so there was plenty of room. The room itself is clean and dark, with a couple of salt lamps around. It's a quiet, contemplative space to practice. There are showers here, too, as well as a room for cycling. The people who work here are very welcoming! Like I said, it was my first time visiting, and I got nothing but love from everyone. The Yoga Studio is a great place to practice yoga, and I'll definitely be back.

Additionally there were several poses called out with different names than what I've encountered with other instructors at several different studios or while doing yoga at home with Apple Fitness. Lastly, we went through a flow once or twice and then the instructor pretty much said keep doing it on your own without any further instructions for a few minutes. I felt bad for the two new students next to me who kept looking over to me to check their form. If you enjoy a hot space and freedom to do whatever flow you'd like, then this place might be good for you, but I was not a fan.

The owner and my trainer, Kelsey, are so accommodating and flexible to my needs as a Frequent Flyer Fitness Failure - with years of trying to get in shape on my own. I get just the right amount of push to keep going and do more without it ever feeling like a "punishment" or demoralizing. And she's collaborative with me! Always checking in on how I feel, if the weights feel challenging enough without over straining, and is letting me get used to the increased work on my body taking my rests and catching my breath. Fortitude Fitness has made exercise FUN. I look forward to it every week. I *miss* it on my off days. As someone who never did much structured fitness (all self-driven if it was done at all) I 1000% recommend this place for anyone who has been struggling with confidence in what to do, where to start, or keeping consistent.
