Came here for a rooftop drink and while it's def a rooftop, there are quite a few structures that kind of obstruct your full view of the city. That being said, I tried their "you call that a kiss" drink and it was actually quite delicious. The service was friendly. The vibe is a bit weird when you try to get here because the building itself is a hotel (NYMA) and you might take some time waiting for the elevator, waiting for people to get on and off, etc. That being said, it's a nice spot to chill outside - there's a big structure with plastic walls for you to sit in if you're nonsmoking which I'm sure they just have for the winter. There's a separate area that's totally open but still, not great views of the city, but you can smoke here and it is heated. If it's too hot you can ask to turn them off. read more

Wow, I felt jipped coming to Cloud Social Rooftop Bar for a drink. We wanted to watch the sunset and pictures on their website seemed promising. There's a whole TSA-like check-in counter once you enter the hotel lobby. We stood in line, but was told we can proceed to the elevator and go directly to the bar. The elevator had a very moldy smell. The bar ambiance was mediocre at best. It just felt very dirty and old. Definitely NOT a vibe. I didn't like my drink either. Forgot the name, but it tasted like sweet/sour herbal medicine. I had trouble finishing it and gave the rest away to my friend. I would give this place a 1-star, but the bartender was holding down the fort since most of his coworkers called out sick. He was trying his best and I recognized that. This rooftop bar sits on the 17th floor of the NYMA Hotel. It is much smaller than expected, so if you come, don't expect a grand and massive rooftop space. There is an inner bar area, and the outdoor space is divided into sections. There is a covered and heated section, and then an open air section. Overall, we liked this rooftop bar. They have a casual dress code and it was not crowded at all. The waiters were really friendly and they had strong drinks. The view is fantastic too. Where do I begin when a a visit is so egregiously poor? Perhaps we should list some of the issues. We arrived during happy hour and selected seating which offered some shade. There is very limited shade on this rooftop venue. We were seated quicky by the hostess and the waitress brought us water. OK, that was good. Then the issues began: 1. The menu is provided by QR code, they gave us the wrong QR code, had to bring us a different QR code menu, repeating the selection process. 2. Only offered two happy hour wines, a cabernet, or a sauvignon blanc. The waitress said the sauvignon blanc was very sweet, so that was not an option. 3. I ordered the cabernet sauvignon. It was literally hot. Did they leave the bottles in the sun? We returned it for a chardonnay. 4. Thus, they only offered two cheap happy hour wines (they didn't list the names), and neither was a viable option. 5. We ordered pizza, it looked and tasted like a supermarket frozen pizza. I took a bite and left the rest, two pieces remained uneaten between our party of four. The waitress didn't ask about it. 6. We ordered chips, guac and salsa. It was basic and fine, like what I might buy at a grocery store. It's difficult to make chips and salsa taste bad. When the check arrived, everyone thought it was high for what we received, about $120. We then headed over to the Ragtrader, and had an awesome experience, great service, great food (4 small plates and 4 drinks) for $137. My next review will be about a great dining experience at the Ragtrader. Come up to the Cloud Social if you want to spend a lot, for mediocre service, expensive drinks, and terrible food. A few friends and I came out with the intention to visit 230 Fifth Avenue rooftop, but when we heard it was a $20 entry fee, we headed to this rooftop instead. Thankfully, there was plenty of space, as well as heaters where we were seated, on this beautiful rooftop with an amazing view of Midtown Manhattan. The Empire State Building was right in front of us. There were also all these pretty fairy lights strung up above us. There wasn't much in terms of nonalcoholic drinks and food options. I would have tried the Charcuterie Board, but none of my friends were interested in sharing that with me, so I ended up not ordering anything. The drinks that my friends got looked colorful and nice though. One of the drinks was supposed to come lit up aflame, but the wind blew it out, and my friend had to light it on fire again. It lasted only a short time. I was able to try the pita and hummus, and the pepperoni pizza. The pita appetizer did not match the photo on the menu, which showcased pita bread. What was actually served was pita chips and store bought hummus. The pizza was also not great - I think that frozen pizza may have been a better option than what was given. The service was great. The hostess and waitress were lovely. Very friendly and made sure we were taken care of. I also enjoyed the simple, yet elegant ambiance and it still turned out to be a fun night out. However, the food was definitely lacking and there's nothing I want from the menu. I would only return as a last resort. read more

It's hard to find because it's in an apartment?hotel? building. There's so many elevator stops on the way up and lots of families with children. It's not ideal if you're looking for a night out with friends. It's also cold because the rooftop plastic coverage isn't airtight so bundle up! The drinks were well made though and the ambiance of the new york city rooftop made up for what it lacked in comfort. The love is in the air drink was a sweeter drink, very instagrammable. Oof. It's been a hot minute since I've been to Cloud Social (a hot minute being when the world thought Corona was just a beer), but it appears to have gotten worse in the time since. The views were never spectacular, but now you can barely see anything as you're boxed into a clear, plastic enclosure due to the weather that limits your ability to move around freely--way too much furniture for such a small, enclosed space. The drinks took at least 20 min to arrive, despite there being hardly anyone when we were there. And they tasted awful. The Recall should just be recalled--none of the flavors worked. The margarita didn't taste like one at all. And they were out of the hot chocolate cocktail I wanted, when it was only 6pm. Our server was really, really nice, but she was also hard to flag and didn't check in on us consistently. If you want a great rooftop experience, definitely go to the K-Town Arlo instead. read more

This is a hard pass. My friend wanted to come for happy hour and we should've definitely chosen somewhere else. The website gives the impression of a classy rooftop, but it's really an overpriced rooftop with no AC, broken fans and is located in a migrant shelter. I was wondering why it took so long for an elevator to go upstairs, no one spoke English, and all the signs were in Spanish! When I finally made it to the rooftop, I was surprised at how hot it was since all the fans were not on and no AC anywhere. Also, there is no breeze from outside since the perimeter is double enclosed (prison bars plus a high plexiglass screen). The $16 lychee drink I had was good, but I didn't appreciate an 18% service charge being included for basic service since I like to be able to control how I tip. I first went to the old La Quinta hotel location across the street to find out that their rooftop bar moved across the street to Nyma's rooftop. I did not mind as it was literally across the street. I just wanted a place for drinks before dinner reservations nearby. The rooftop bar was located on the 17th floor (take the first right once off the elevator). Views were just as beautiful as the other rooftop bar and the indoor/outdoor bar was more spacious than the other one. There was more space by the actual bar and there were more seats outside. All of the heat lamps above helped, but they were a bit too low (I felt my hair getting hot). Happy hour was great and prices were fair for midtown. Staff were friendly and attentive! I was invited here for a work event. Upon arrival, the place was packed-- with that being said, I made my way to our area and stayed there for the majority of the night. It's really how to speak about the views because it was difficult to navigate around the event; however, I'd say that Cloud Social wouldn't have the best view of the city. Despite that, I had a great time here. The staff members who were in my area were very nice along with the nice people at the bar. If you're just looking for a chill, non-pretentious rooftop in the city; this would be your place. Super chill bar have been here a few times now. Located right in ktown and perfect for summer/fall weather. It's not super fancy like some other rooftop bars in the city but still nice and has enough space for people to mingle or sit down. Probably depends what time you go. We went for happy hour and this is a go to for my cousins. Drink proces are pretty typical for ny even with it being happy hour which kinda sucks like $8-12 a cocktail but i don't do happy hour too often. I guess that's a little bit of a difference since drinks at clubs can be $10-15+ avg. Staff is friendly and drinks are made pretty well. Stopped by here Friday night for drinks with a friend and was surprised to find that there was only a 15 minute wait time for us. We didn't make a reservation beforehand so we weren't expecting to get into a rooftop bar so quickly, especially on a weekend night. My friend and I both ordered a frozen cocktail and were surprised to see that it came with a mini chocolate chip cookie in the drink.. While this was a cute addition, we wished the cookie wasn't inside the drink because it was completely soggy from being drenched in the liquid. The vibes at this place were nice, it was quieter and calmer than a lot of other places in the city. We appreciated that the music wasn't blaring super loud because it actually allowed for conversation. With a view of Empire State Building but tbh not so impressive view, partially depends on where you are sitting, it can be blocked by the roof or the giant water tower. Also the 17th floor is quite low to view the Empire State Building; you can picture that lookin at a giant but can't see the top. Service is soooo slow; it was full and there was only one waitress. Such a cute rooftop! Good for dates and small group hang. Cocktails were pretty consistently good. I've gotten cocktails with different liquor bases and they were all generally good. Great view overlooking manhattan. Service is limited to ordering from bars and seating yourself down. On the weekends, they open up for walk-ins around 4:30pm. It gets pretty busy around 5:30ish. My friends and I came on Memorial Day around 5pm as the weather became nicer and we wanted a nice rooftop to hang out after brunch. This rooftop seemed like the perfect choice as it was near penn station and we would be able to catch our trains after. I will start off by saying we have all worked in customer service at least once. A friend of mine ordered a drink (The Paper Tiger) and took 2 sips of it. She really didn't like it as it had a bad after taste. She isn't one to send a drink back, but it was very bad. She asked our waitress if she would be able to swap it out and was very apologetic about it. She was told no, she must buy another drink. Now in all of the restaurants and higher end bars we have gone to, this has never been said to us. The menu also does not have a written policy stating this. This is not displayed anywhere in the establishment. Just a no smoking sign. We ask if it's possible to see a manager. The woman tells us she is the supervisor on duty. I believe her name was Natalie. She said she could not do anything about it. So we ask is there anyone above her we can speak to. She said no. We ask can she call whom ever was above her to ask and I believe she said his name was frank. Time goes by abs she continues to walk by us. I truly believe if she didn't see me writing a long Yelp review which I somehow neglected to post, she wouldn't have came around later and offer my friend a new drink and emphasize she is not supposed to change drinks. We got here on a Saturday night around 11.30pm and it was not that crowded, decent place to have a couple drinks and chill. Service was alright, drinks were alright, and drinks were served in plastic cups even though the place wasn't as packed. Tried the Hibiscus-75(could taste the tanginess), Juicy Watermelon(too sweet to be a cocktail) and a couple tequila shots. Also, I'm not sure if this is just a New York thing, but even for one beer there is 18% gratuity added by default. I did not know that the hotel below (Nyma hotel) has now become a homeless shelter. So the vibe when entering the elevator was frankly not it. But the rooftop is very conveniently located in Ktown, with direct view of the Empire State Building. The drinks are priced with the Manhattan markup so expect $18-$20 for a cocktail. Quiet, lax, and casual rooftop bar in the middle of Ktown is what Cloud Social is. Went with a party of three at 9pm on a Monday (aka not the most popular time to go out, oh well). We were seated immediately and the rooftop wasn't packed at all - perhaps there were 5-6 groups there that night. DRINKS: Cocktails run 10-15 dollar a piece, which is pretty standard for Manhattan prices. I got an Old Fashioned made with Maker's Mark and their cucumber cocktail special. Both were around ~$14 dollars a piece. The bartender knew how to make a good Old Fashion as it was very refreshing and had a good ratio between alcoholic content, citrus, and sweetness. Drink wasn't too sweet which it is supposed to be. The Cucumber special was a wildcard for me and tasted much like the vegetable - could barely tasted any alcohol in it so it tasted like cucumber juice to me. Wasn't terribly impressed with that tonight. My other friends ordered a Manhattan Rye and Old Fashioned as well and they were impressed and happy with their drinks. AMBIENCE: Cloud Social does not have the best view for a rooftop around this area as Monarch probably has the better view in comparison, but its view isn't too shabby at all. You can see the Empire State Building and a glimpse of Madison Square Park/the Freedom Tower in the background, but they aren't too noticeable as you'll see quite a few residential towers around. Background music wasn't noticeable so it's definitely a good spot to bring a group of friends or a date to have a good conversation at. Just a warning: I came here under the impression that they give out one free shot if you check in at YELP prior to placing your order. Upon entering the building it was located in, there were little kids running around in the lobby and security at the front, turns out they turned the whole building into a shelter for migrants, waited over 10 minutes for the elevator and when it opened, it was full of migrants, that should've been a sign not to go.
