I was recommended to these people and had to go back for a second cut with Ursula. Turns out I wish I never did that. It felt like she wasn't actually listening to me at all. She cut all my bangs off when I specifically said I hate mini bangs and have curly hair. My bangs now curl all the way up. Don't waste your money here. One of the worst haircuts I've had and also extremely expensive. I shouldn't have gone back for the fixing and just asked for a refund instead. It seemed like she had no idea what she was doing. I'm actually furious, she completely ruined my hair. I even showed a photo twice. I was going to go eat after the second cut and now I don't even want to be seen in public. She also never trimmed my longest layer or styled my hair at all the first time. I left with my hair completely wet unable to see the results and after the second time I have bangs curled up an inch from my head. I have been going to Clive and Co for a while now and it is sad to say but I will NEVER go back. They ruined my hair. The first try she gave me highlights that turned out to be a grey green color making my hair dull and damp looking. The second try she bleached in highlights that turned out orange and splotchy. I have attached pictures. When we asked if another colorist could just dye the whole mess back brown they refused saying I asked for an ombré. Not even sure this would be considered a good ombré but that's besides the point. They would only let the girl who already messed my hair twice add more bleach and I was certainly not letting her touch my hair again. I have also attached the picture she was supposed to model the color after. Good luck if you go there. Maybe ask for Abby? I have been to Clive and Co a few times now and let me say the experience is well beyond any other salon I have been to. I stopped going for a bit because they were further away from my home but now I work down the block and I was so excited to be back at Clive. When you first come in the waiting area is small with limited chairs but they do not keep you there very long. They have a large variety of products to check out as well. I have gone to Marc multiple times and this time tried Ursula. Both were incredible and friendly stylists! When you first come in, the stylist seats you and chats about what you are looking for. They then send you for a shampoo. Prior to the shampoo they give you a smock to change into so you do not get your clothes wet or hair on them. The shampoo is very relaxing with a small temple massage. You are then offered a beverage and your stylist goes to work. I have always had great cuts with Clive and Co and the stylists really listen to what you want. The only "downfall" is the pricing is a bit higher than other places you will find. However, the price is well worth it. You get what you pay for and at Clive and Co you receive A LOT. Absolutely check them out. I just had an appointment there today (11/5/13) and was VERY happy with the whole experience. Starting back from consultation a week earlier though, the front desk staff were very cheery and accommodating. I was addressed right away with a smile and a seat and drink offering by Thomas, and Courtney (colorist) came out promptly. I was able to secure a evening consultation as well which was very nice as I live and work a decent distance away, it was at 7:30pm. Right away it's hard not to notice that the color on all the stylist and staff hair is fantastic, even the more daring color and cut choices were amazing with their skin and eyes. Aesthetics matter here, and melding it with personality rather than going full on self expression outlandish (you know they could, they're stylists!) made for beautiful results that honored the wearer as well as looked great. My consultation was 10-15min and was with both Courtney and Jovahn who was to cut my hair. It was nice to get them together rather than one at a time, it was a tag team approach. My own quirks are an old sad tale: moved from out of town, few bad experiences, etc. I said "Red. Not auburn, not brown dominant with red chunks, and no Ronald McDonald. As far as cutting goes, get rid of the busted ends, but I'm growing it out so no layers or massive shaping attempts above the chin in the front or above collar bones for the rest." They agreed, told me their plans and that was it! Today I came in and they did exactly as they promised. It was early and Thomas was quick with the coffee and a smile, and Jovahn and Courtney passed responsibilities with ease to get me in and out. Jovahn gave me a great "growing out" trim time frame to work with and didn't go a centimeter above what was agreed upon. All the products used were explained and I was given tips on the grow out process. I was nervous about the color but kept it to myself and let Courtney do her thing while we chatted. Turns out going to a salon where they train often and demand stylists show off their art and science skills makes all the difference. I LOVE what they did, how expediently and happily it was done, and being able to just relax and know it was going to end well for once! Very highly recommend :) read more

A friend of mine recommended that I try out this salon. As it was my first time coming in, I was looking forward to seeing some new faces. I walked in and was greeted by the cashiers. One of the cashiers informed me that I would be working with Ursula today. So far, so great! Ursula and I had a great time chatting throughout the course of my cut and style. Ursula ran up to the front to make sure that the "specialty style" I wanted was affordable and reasonably priced, which it was ($20 extra). However, this is where it begins to go down hill. I greet my cashier at the counter. As she was ringing me up, I figured she was somewhat new because she was fumbling all over the register. I told her the "specialty style" was $20, based on what Ursula told me, but the cashier rung up the "specialty style" as $100 instead. Now, there is a line forming behind me. The other cashier next to mine was busy dealing with another customer. Thus, I reluctantly paid the overcharged amount and left as quickly as possible because I was already a little late to a previous engagement of mine. I ended up calling a few days later to straighten out the overcharge, but the systems seemed to be down that day. The cashier I spoke to promised she would "call me back". However, she never did. Now, today, I asked my friend if she could go in and get the refund on my behalf since I'm working all day. My friend called the salon to let them know that she was coming by to retrieve my money and to be prepared. Be that as it may, the cashier that answered the phone was very passive aggressive towards her. The cashier hung up on my friend and called me, even though my friend informed the cashier that I am working all day; hence why my friend is going in to take care of the refund. I managed to break away from my desk to deal with the situation and eventually retain my refund. The cashier was passive aggressive towards me because I wanted $100 back, which included my stylist's tip. Although Ursula was a great stylist, and we had a great time during our session, the cashiers royally messed up my transaction. I will not be going back to Clive & Co. ever again. I hope the cashiers can correct their mistakes with a bit more urgency next time. UPDATE: The cashier refunded me for the full amount of the "specialty style" of $100 and kept the $20 tip for her co-worker/stylist, Ursula. read more

I love this salon! I made an appointment here about a year ago when my hair was just out of control and had not been cut in almost a year. I met with Jennifer and explained what I was looking in a hair style. She walked me over to where they shampoo your hair, greatest shampoo/wash I have ever had. I almost fell asleep it was so peaceful. The music is blaring awful noise but relaxing with a tiny bit upbeat to keep it fun. When I got back to Jennifer's chair she let me read, offered a glass of wine while she just pampered me. It was amazing! Now for the hair style: She did exactly what I asked for and more. I've been going here for about 5 years, and I can't believe I'm just now writing a review. This is my absolute go to place for everything hair. Sara is my colorist, and she is excellent. She takes the time to listen to me, walk me through the process, and will talk through a game plan for when I get a wild hair and want to go from blonde to brunette. She makes sure that I'm happy but yet keep my hair healthy. Jennifer is my stylist, and I cannot recommend her enough. She also takes the time to make sure I understand the cut that I'm getting, best practices for styling at home, and will listen to any questions or thoughts I may have about a different style. She is honest and will find a style that works for your face and your lifestyle. The rest of the staff is top notch and so nice and helpful. Clive strives for excellence in all levels, an it shows. Very professional and educated in their field and my hair looks great! Pastel fixed my dreadful home dye job, taking care of the weird reverse ombre I'd given myself as well as hiding the copious grays that nevertheless persisted. Davis then shaped up my flat, fine hair so that it actually compliments my face instead of hiding it. The salon is bright, clean and fancy feeling with out being stuffy. Y'all. My hair comes with a backstory sadder than Batman's. I have had corkscrew curls and long thick hair since puberty. Over the Holidays (the only time I tend to straighten my hair) I accidentally burned my hair terribly with a new CHI set to 450 degrees. I cried for weeks, tried everything I could find online, and then went to a Devacut specialist. She ended up not giving the cut and just chopping off half the damage so I could come back in 3 months and get the rest cut off. Here I am 5 months later and still unhappy so I decide to book at Clive & Co. I got matched with Davis (Curly Girl herself), who is my self proclaimed new BFF. She listened to my story, looked at pictures of my hair in it's glory days, and then got to work. I am back in love with my hair, and it is shaped beautifully. My curls are back at about 75-80% and I think by next cut they'll be back at 100% with her help! I could not have asked for a better outcome unless she had a real magic wand. Or time machine. Ha! Pros: Cost was way fair. (Maybe TOO fair for what I got so she got extra from me.) Christie was incredibly nice got me in the day AFTER my frantic "I have something to go to this weekend" message. The facility is clean and bright. The hair wash and scalp massage was heaven. Davis is sweet and gave me more than what I asked for. There were super helpful suggestions but NO pressure to buy anything. Clive himself came to speak with me about my experience and made sure I was happy. MIRIAM did my hair really well. She washed it nicely that I felt like I was pampered, she cut it carefully and precisely for an hour then she styled it professionally. I told her what style I wanted but I love her more when she told me the recommendations like:"oh do u want to have some layers this side?", "do i want your bang shorter because it will look better"," u should cut shorter a bit your hair, it is too long". I have been coming here for almost 4 years now - and have no complaints (except when it comes time for me to pay my bill and I cringe a little, but hey.. I'm not in central or southern Illinois anymore). Courtney has always colored my hair - and is super realistic when it comes to coloring, how it will affect your hair, if a harsh change could damage it, etc. which I appreciate - most colorists will slap on bleach and call it a day. She's fun to talk to and a great stylist. Marc cuts my hair and although he would probably like a little more variety from me than my usual trim - he knows I am a control freak and does what I ask. He's the best. Everyone in the salon is super nice and friendly and it's nice to have a glass of wine or a beer while you're hanging out! I specifically signed up for Yelp just to leave a review for Clive and Co. As another reviewer had posted, most people love to use Yelp for negative venting so I'm happy to add a 5 star review here. I moved to Dallas from the NYC area a little over 3 years ago, leaving behind my beloved stylist. In that time, I have tried no less than 6 different salons and have been only marginally impressed. I love and live the vintage lifestyle and it's extremely difficult to find someone that can cut a hair proper for vintage styling but that still looks cute if I don't have the time to set it. Then I found Brittany at Clive and Co. and to say I am happy with her is an understatement. She knows exactly what she is doing when it comes to vintage (and I'm sure in every other aspect) and I've never had a cut grow out so wonderfully. She also has a wonderful personality and, unlike other salons I've been to, gives you her undivided attention and she never keeps me waiting. I would also like to say that I've also never come across a more pleasant reception area! It never has that "uppity" feeling that a lot of salons have. That feeling that you should be honored they'd even cut your hair there. They are friendly and welcoming at Clive and Co. and have yet to run into someone not smiling. I am going in for my first single process color with Susan in a couple of weeks and I'm hoping my experience is just as wonderful. Jovahn (spelling?) cuts my hair and Susan colors. This last time, I gave a bit of direction to Susan and told her I needed something with easy upkeep. She worked her magic and I love the result. I just got back from my first appointment with Brittany for a cut and I'll be back on Friday for a color with Sara. I read all the Yelp reviews before picking and I'm glad I chose to come here. I love that they do a full consultation before they book an appointment, so they know what to expect and how much time to book. The salon staff is friendly, the atmosphere is busy, but really professional and serene. They even meet to discuss the plan of attack- for instance- we decided to do my cut before my color so we could make sure the color took and accented the cut in the best way- since I opted for a change. Brittany did a great job on my cut! I have very fine hair, and she made it look like I have a ton. What is this witchcraft?! I'm very picky bout my cuts and colors, so I was glad to have it in the hands of someone so capable and friendly. They also recommend products for you without feeling too pushy. They feature Bumble and Bubmle and Kerastase and a few other lines. I appreciate recommendations for sure, and she told me exactly why she was recommending what product. Love it! While I loved the two people who cut and colored my hair, I was very disappointed in the way I have been treated. First off, when I first went to Clive over two years ago we didn't see eye to eye with my vision for my hair. Because of that I felt so uncomfortable and he would barely speak to me while in his chair. Instead of rushing off to a new salon I switched to Marie. She is lovely and gave me beautiful cuts. I went to Abby for color...she is so sweet and knows what she is doing. This is the thing: I have an disease called Stills. Most likely many days a month I can't walk well and must use my wheelchair. Sometimes my pain is intense. I also have diabetes and neuropathy in my feet and legs. This is very painful. So there have been times I will make an appt and have to either cancel or reschedule. I have spent hundreds of dollars at this salon and they will not even begin to let me rearrange an appt. without telling me I have to pay for my cancellations. Today being that I could not be seen again unless I paid my balance for canceling my appt. So I have to find a new salon even though I loved the girls who did my hair. Sometimes Mr Clive, there are legitimate reasons someone who has chronic disease has to cancel or rearrange. read more

The wait was very short and the price was decent but edging on the higher side. That sounds great so far but my hair was chopped and ruined by the guy who cut my hair. I should've just let my four year old cut it- no exaggeration. This happened early last year and I just now was able to get my hair long enough to get it cut and fixed properly. I had SO many uneven layers...completely embarrassing. I got highlights done (same day) and those came out pretty good but also uneven (one side had more highlights than the other) so I had to go back. The nice thing was even the highlight girl agreed it wasn't even and could use a few more to even it all out. There wasn't an extra charge (as there shouldn't be since I paid for it to be done right already) and wasn't happy I had to find a sitter to watch my kid while my hair was fixed. Another stylist commented on the cut being disastrous and asked where I got it done. I told her I just had it done with a guy there...her face was shocked and then quickly changed her tone about it just needing to be styled...yeah, ok, I already know it's jacked up. I tried to figure out how this place has such good reviews: they offer a referral program that if you tell good things about em to other people and those people say you sent em, then you get a free cut/highlight...BUT you have to have your appointment set up already for the next visit and referral must show up prior to yours. Basically it's all about the free services in my opinion. All in all, if it was just highlights then I probably would've given it a 3 1/2, but since I have to include the AWFUL cut I received (which would've been negative stars), I went with a two star rating. read more

I have been going to Clive and Co. for about 3 years and it is an amazing and professional salon. From the time of check in and check out everyone one greets and makes you feel welcomed. I have not had one haircut or style I was not happy with! Everyone there from the front desk to my stylist (Michael B.) have been nothing but the best. They use quality professional products and organic shampoo/conditioner products that will leave your hair smelling and feeling amazing to the touch! My stylist Michael B. is amazing! Very professional, kind and welcoming. He gives you his attention the entire time while in his chair. (btw. the head massage is wonderful too - relaxation mode commence!) From the moment you begin your consultation to the very end I always feel comfortable and know I am in good hands. He listens to what you like and don't like, and will take time to analyze any pictures you show him to see what he can do for you. Also, he does not push products for you to buy, but rather recommends what the salon offers to help maintain and keep your style when you walk out the door. I would certainly refer Michael B hands down! :) Also, be sure to call ahead to make sure he is available! Of course he can cut both male and female hair as well as any hair type! I always come back to maintain my haircut and he never fails! I honestly get compliments on my haircut everywhere i go. I am not shy to recommend and refer Clive and Co and Michael! Many of girl friends and acquaintances tell me they are looking for someone that can do great hair gradients, texture (volume) and layers --he is your guy and will fix what other salons may have butchered- seriously! I am a firm believer on "you get what you pay for" so if you want to have a gorgeous hair cut and style this is the place you want to spend your money. I had my first haircut with Alli today and I'm so happy! I was growing my hair out for my wedding last year and it just got to a point where it was breaking off a lot (I'm a flatiron girl), so I wanted to cut it short. Alli took the time and listened to me to make sure she knew what I wanted. I've had short hair many times before and never had anyone cut my hair as meticulous as Alli did. She's super cute and sweet and was just as excited as I was for my transformation. I also met with Liz who is a colorist.
