Ahh, I don't even know where to begin..Let me start off by saying Emily Rich is an ABSOLUTELY and UNDENIABLY AMAZING hairstylist, hands-down! Okay, so, I don't get on Yelp like, ever, but I'm so happy with my hair I figure a good review is the least I can do. I have super thick, wavy hair and I decided to get a brazilian blowout. I know it doesn't entirely straighten hair, but holy crap! Even after I washed it, its still like 90% straight with a small bit of wave around the face. I literally woke up looking awesome, no frizz to be found. I'm definitely going back to Emily. She's really cool, funny, we clicked really well, and when I was late it wasn't an issue for her. Ahhhh so I am no newbie when it comes to Brazilian Blowouts so i knew what to expect but I am new to Texas so I was nervous to trust someone else to my hair. I had been going to the same hairdresser for 13 years, but I realized it was time to find someone in my new state. Emily paid attention to exactly what I wanted, and I had explained to her that I wanted to grow out my hair so she made sure to trim the bare minimum off the bottom. Emily has all solid reviews, and after visiting her, I understand why. Emily's place is very relaxing and she made me feel very comfortable. If doing hair was a superpower then Emily would be SuperWoman! She even does CURLY GIRL HAIR! Before I met Emily, for years I went through the same story that went something like this: 1) Research reviews online and find a stylist that has good reviews. 2) Get excited and book said stylist. 3) Arrive and explain desired look, get your hair done, and pay. 4) Go home and cry because your hair has been chopped off or the completely wrong color. It's an unfortunate story that many of us go through. I am Mixed (both Black and White) so my incredibly curly (corkscrew), dark, and thick hair has particularly stumped many hair stylists throughout my life. My hair seemed to present such a challenge to so many stylists that I pretty much had given up on getting my hair professionally done. I was hair salon traumatized so I kept trying to do my own color and it did not look good. A friend recommended her to me and although I was hesitant, I took a leap of faith and I am glad I did. Emily really listens to ensure you are getting what you want. Throughout the whole process she checked in with me and made me feel comfortable; she is so much fun and easy to talk to. She was incredibly gentle when she detangled my wild mane (which can be quite challenging) and I was really impressed with her skills across a diverse range of clientele. My highlights are nothing short of INCREDIBLE and I feel like I look like a ROCKSTAR. I receive compliments on my hair on a regular basis because of her talent. When I look in the mirror I feel so good about myself because I love how my hair looks. I recently had my hair cut by Emily, and I am SO THRILLED with my experience! To start with some things that aren't as important: Her hair studio is gorgeously decorated, spacious, and very relaxing. She's super close to downtown Dallas, and was able to schedule me the same week I contacted her. Those things aren't deal breakers for me, but all very nice just the same. The critical things for me in a hairstylist are: attention to detail, listening skills, Saturday availability (I'll wait up to a month to get an appointment, but it needs to be on a weekend), and professionalism. Emily is an awesome stylist, was beyond gracious, listened to all my issues/questions/concerns, (my hair is challenging for me, to put it mildly!) and shared product and styling tips. She did an amazing job with my haircut! She is meticulous, helpful, and so sweet. By far, this was the best haircut I have ever had.
