@Steven Marlin colors my hair. I am very picky and I get compliments every where I go. Even strangers stop me and ask me about my hair color. Steven has a good eye for direction and tells me with honesty what I should be doing and he does a great job making my hair color look natural. I recommend Steven Marlin for colorist!! read more

John Vega is my hairdresser and my friend. He's been cutting my hair since the late 80's, whenever we have lived in the same city. And I'll tell you several reasons why. First, is his amazing shampoo. Seriously. This man takes his service seriously and gives the most thoughtful shampoo you'll ever experience. Second, John is pleasantly honest. He will determine your lifestyle, face shape, hair texture, personality, EVERYTHING, and discuss what will work best for you. His experience shows through in all he does. And, most importantly, he will tell you if that shag or asymmetrical Bob will work for you and your hair. Seriously. The third and most important point is his precision with scissors. The man can cut hair. My particular style is a Pixie. God is in the details here. John delivers. Seriously. My haircut grows out gracefully and beautifully. My bestie flies in from Atlanta just to have John cut her hair. (And see me!) He transformed my niece from a high school girl to a college savvy art student. Amazing. I recommend John, not because he is a friend, but because he is a consummate professional who respects his clients time, energy, and money and offers one of the best cuts you'll ever receive. He takes his work, well,.....seriously. read more

The Hive - Color by Steven Marlin - Hair Salons Near Me - Dallas, Texas

Theresa Allen is a master of a precision-cut bob. She took me short and then long by giving cuts that flawlessly grow. Over the last two years, I have trusted only her to manage my hair. Theresa cuts my mom's bobs, which are always slightly different, consistently sophisticated, and never a boring look. Jennifer is a phenomenal colorist. Over the last five months, she's taken me from a virgin brown to a honey blonde. She's colored my hair so it appears natural. She and Theresa share clients & you can definitely identify their masterwork in the salon. The salon staff and clients are cool. The Hive carries a robust series of Bumble & Bumble products, as well as Kevin Murphy. Most stylists manage their own calendars, so it's best to text them to schedule your next appointment. read more

If I could give a 10 I would! Amazing salon. I tried to cut my own hair and things did not go well But the Hive fixed it and Annelle did not only fix it, I received the best haircut ever. The grow out has been even better. Then I got my highlights and Tracy gave me the most beautiful blonde. It's been a long time since I have liked my blonde. Thank you Annelle and Tracy. You are simply the best! Prices are very reasonabIe, too. I have lived in Dallas and LA most of my life and I have never found a salon as talented and wonderful as this. read more

John Vega has been cutting my hair for years - I mean, years and years. He listens to what you want, will take the best information from the pictures you may bring in and makes it all into a version to suit just you. It's a true gift and he has it. I can't say enough good things about John and highly recommend his services. The salon itself is also worth a mention. Local artwork on the walls, charming midcentury furniture in the waiting area, and nice people that say "hi" when you walk in the door. Oh! and there are always cake balls there in the waiting area in case you feel a little peckish - cake balls must be mentioned! Again, I highly recommend the whole thing. read more

Here I go, five or more years later, and I'm still following Theresa Allen in her peripathetic travels across salon land in Dallas. Theresa has been the one constant in my life for- what - fifteen years? I've changed real estate brokers, family constellation, political parties, economic status, dentists, affections - hell, everything but my sex and my haircutter in those years - and Theresa is still the best. Flawless bob cut, done with laser precision at the Hive. She even comped me on my birthday. And the new salon Hive is a breath of fresh air. Calm, cozy, but not cloying. Working hair professionals who respect one another and one anothers' clients. You can find a parking space, probably get your dog groomed at the place two doors down, and even drop off that trunkload of items for Goodwill at the van in the corner of the parking lot. One stop everything, and your hair will look great. Guess I'm good for another five or ten years. read more

I love The Hive. Jennifer has been my colorist for over a year now. Jennifer is amazing at taking a dark brunette like myself to a light blonde color, gradually and over time. I think the best master pieces are the ones that take time to pull together and perfect. She has patience and has great advice. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in coloring. Prices are very reasonable for Dallas! You definitely have to book her in advanced, she's a very desired colorist! Now on to my stylist... What can I say about Taury Patterson that I haven't mentioned before when he worked for Halo and Pompeo?!? I would go anywhere he goes bc I trust my hair to that man. 5 year relationship and still going strong! read more

On my first ever visit to this salon, I booked a partial highlight with Tracy. The color turned out great, and he had some wonderful thoughts about how to make it even better in the future. The reason for the 3 stars, is that I'm pretty disappointed in the $90 price tag, that DID NOT include a blow dry or style. I could have left my first appointment with a new colorist with wet hair, not knowing how it looked. Instead, I paid $35 for a "blow out" that I could have done myself. The stylist doing the blow out was awkward, uncomfortable, and felt unsure or not confident in what she was doing. The color - great and worthy of 4 stars. The service, bang for your buck, and atmosphere gets 3 stars from me. I don't think I will be back. read more

Okay, yall. I LOVED The Hive!! I completely recommend them, especially Jenn the stylist! I came in with long, thick hair with no style and no idea what I wanted, and asked her to do whatever she thought needed to be done. She did AMAZING! Best haircut of my life, easily! read more

I how been going to The Hive since it opened 8 years ago! Steven Marlin is an amazing colorist and has helped me figure out how to color my gray while maintaining a natural look. I have been coming to The Hive for the last few years and think the stylists here are fantastic. A small but cute salon. The owner also has an art rotation that is very cool. Always on time, always friendly, and the music is great too! A bonus is that the staff are all very supportive of animal rescue...that in itself just tells you they are good people! Highly recommend for haircuts and color. read more

The Hive is a wonderful, laid back salon. Tracy is a master colorist and will be My master colorist from now on! :)

Do you want to look like a rock star ??? Then go to Theresa Allen !!....Most precision haircut in Dallas ( probably) the North American continent... No, I am not kidding .. "T" has been cutting my hair so long that neither one of us can remember how many years (about 17 ) ... I truly get worn out from all the compliments !! If I had a $ for every compliment, I would be a millionaire ... I have always prayed that she stayed in Dallas because the air fare would kill me !! She can cut any hair style but the bob is her specialty ... I can not say enough nice things about her .. she is not only my hairdresser but I consider her part of my family !!! She is super cool!!! read more

It's true. A woman will follow a great colorist anywhere. That's what I have done with Steven Marlin. I have gotten compliments on my hair color for the past 5 years which is always the most reliable type of "review". Besides lovin' Steven's coloring magic, I discovered stylist Clark Gary so now I don't have to go to two salons anymore. Added bonus, The Hive vibe is relaxed and welcoming. read more

Steven is GREAT! I have been going to Steven for about a year now. He always knows exactly how to schedule my highlights so that I always look like I have fresh hair. I tried this salon for the first time last Saturday. I got a cut and blow out. The hair stylist was professional and took time to talk about my hair and what style I exactly wanted. I had gotten a terrible haircut from the last salon I went to and was grateful the staff at the Hive made me feel comfortable. I called Saturday morning and was surprised they were able to fit me in that afternoon! The owner greeted me when I walked in and was very friendly. Also, on Saturdays they have cake balls so don't forget to grab one on the way out! Overall a 5 star experience, but I am only giving 4 stars due to price. It was $90 for a cut and blow out. You get what you pay for and I'm very happy with my haircut, so I was okay with the $90 bill... but heads up if you're budget conscious!! read more

Today was my first time at the hive and Tracy was recommended to me by a friend for hair color. He talked to me for about 10 minutes about what I would want. I really appreciated that he explained what he would do before starting. He was very friendly and they even set me up with someone for a blow dry although I never scheduled it. The place is cool and unpretentious. Clark, gave me a beautiful blow out. Excited to go backand happy about the results! read more

Not only did Kimberly make my hair look incredible while I was in the chair, but she gave my problematic limp, super fine hair an edgy haircut that falls into place with minimal effort on my part. I'm not good at doing my own hair, so this is a huge plus for me. I can tell it will grow out beautifully, and I still feel like a million bucks a month after my visit. read more

i have been seeing Jenn B. for more than 10 years and I have never had a bad hair cut. When she moved home to be close to family, I followed her there. That was 6 hours away! I am so happy she came back to the metroplex. I live in Hurst and make it a point to see her very regularly. I have short hair and you cannot take a chance of getting a bad haircut. She is worth any drive!!! I appreciate the time she takes each appointment and listens to all my requests. Love love love her and would never go to anyone else!!! read more

John Vega, I can't stop looking in the mirror. My hair looks absolutely fabulous. Thank you for making me feel so handsome!!

John Vega is by far the best stylist in the business. His haircuts are so precise that your hair moves well, feels great and looks fantastic. I have had many others cut my hair over the years but John is by far the most talented. In fact, I moved to Atlanta and went to highly rated salon. I was super disappointed and am traveling to Dallas next week so John can fix me! The salon is quite cozy and the owner is very nice. John is funny, caring and as I have said- so so talented! read more

Jennifer Weller has colored my blonde hair for almost 20 years. She is the greatest. I have moved out of state several times and still come back to Dallas for Jennifer to do my color. She makes the color look natural and keeps my hair looking healthy. I am so glad she opened her own salon; it's just like her warm and friendly. Plus it's a convenient location with loads of free parking. Don't go anywhere else...go to the Hive. read more

On a recent visit to Dallas, I was able to see Steven Marlin again and can't say enough about how pleased I am with the results. Steven is great at getting some ideas of what you want (I am a bit indecisive) and then providing suggestions that hit the mark. And he was extremely patient with my long, super curly hair. I recommend Steven without hesitation. read more

I got my hair colored here for nearly a year and was very happy with the results. I'm picky about my color--a medium brown with gold highlights, which can be hard to get. But the colorist here nailed it every time. I stopped going to the Hive, however, because I got pressure from my colorist to get my hair cut by a particular stylist. I let her cut my hair twice. She spent probably 15 minutes each time on my cut and style and did an OK job. But for $65, I expect a great job. I finally got so uncomfortable with my colorist asking me every time when I was going to have this stylist cut my hair again that I switched salons. read more

I have followed Taury Patterson over the last 3 years to cut my long hair. It's very hard to find someone who can trim your long hair and give it style with layers that grow out nice. I highly recommend him. read more

I have gotten my hair done here for years. Tracy and Jen, the owners are talented and kind. Tracy has done my color for over a decade. I have had platinum blonde to ballyage and he has made it all look fantastic. You should definitely come check them out. read more

I came to Steven Marlin on a recommendation from a client after the worst cut and color I have ever received- it was BRUTAL. To say I was scared to have anyone touch my hair again is an understatement. The first thing he did was ask me specifics about what I didn't like. Then he asked what I do with my hair during the day (I'm a personal trainer so I put my hair up a lot). THEN he asked a lot of questions about the color that I wanted. He asked A LOT of questions!!! It made me feel as if he was really dedicated to getting me the exact color that I wanted. And you know what? I got just that. Exactly what I want every time, he doesn't have to show me a color chart, he just gets its right. Steven has my complete trust and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a colorist! read more

I have been going to The Hive since it opened, and Steven Marlin has been coloring my hair for 8 years. When I visited Steven Marlin yesterday, he did an exceptional job with my hair. Although I'm always happy with how my hair looks, and I get lots of compliments, yesterday's experience was superlative. He efficiently translated my inept hair-speak about what I was looking for, and the result was beautiful. Jennifer Beauchamp then expertly cut my hair. I am grateful to both of them. Also, if you go on Saturdays, they have yummy cake balls. read more

Steven Marlin has colored my hair for about ten years now, and I would not consider having anyone else do it. Steven listens to what I want, offers suggestions, and then he works his magic so that my color looks always looks great. I agree with Barbara's review: "a woman will follow a great colorist anywhere" because I have, and Steven is definitely worth it. He is very conscientious and flexible. He is very accommodating when scheduling appointments. Steven also has a very upbeat personality and is a pleasure know. I give him my highest recommendation. read more
