John Vega has been cutting my hair for years - I mean, years and years. He listens to what you want, will take the best information from the pictures you may bring in and makes it all into a version to suit just you. It's a true gift and he has it. I can't say enough good things about John and highly recommend his services. The salon itself is also worth a mention. Local artwork on the walls, charming midcentury furniture in the waiting area, and nice people that say "hi" when you walk in the door. Theresa has been the one constant in my life for- what - fifteen years? I've changed real estate brokers, family constellation, political parties, economic status, dentists, affections - hell, everything but my sex and my haircutter in those years - and Theresa is still the best. Flawless bob cut, done with laser precision at the Hive. She even comped me on my birthday. And the new salon Hive is a breath of fresh air. Calm, cozy, but not cloying. Working hair professionals who respect one another and one anothers' clients. You can find a parking space, probably get your dog groomed at the place two doors down, and even drop off that trunkload of items for Goodwill at the van in the corner of the parking lot. On my first ever visit to this salon, I booked a partial highlight with Tracy. The color turned out great, and he had some wonderful thoughts about how to make it even better in the future. The reason for the 3 stars, is that I'm pretty disappointed in the $90 price tag, that DID NOT include a blow dry or style. I could have left my first appointment with a new colorist with wet hair, not knowing how it looked. Instead, I paid $35 for a "blow out" that I could have done myself. The stylist doing the blow out was awkward, uncomfortable, and felt unsure or not confident in what she was doing. The color - great and worthy of 4 stars. The service, bang for your buck, and atmosphere gets 3 stars from me. I don't think I will be back. read more

Steven is the best for color! Before I found him, I have tried a few different colorists around Dallas (at salons like Osgood, Halo, Form, etc.) and no one has been able to get my hair the perfect natural blonde shade like Steven can. He listens well and gives you what you ask for...which is so refreshing. He really understands color and tonality (basically when you show him a color or talk about it being too warm or cool, he gets it). He's also super nice and easy to book via text. Added bonus is that I never have to wait after arriving for my appointment - which I really appreciate and have found that it unusual since most of the other salons seem to overbook and leave me hanging either in the waiting area or the chair for 15-20 min. I tried this salon for the first time last Saturday. I got a cut and blow out. The hair stylist was professional and took time to talk about my hair and what style I exactly wanted. I had gotten a terrible haircut from the last salon I went to and was grateful the staff at the Hive made me feel comfortable. I called Saturday morning and was surprised they were able to fit me in that afternoon! The owner greeted me when I walked in and was very friendly. Also, on Saturdays they have cake balls so don't forget to grab one on the way out! Overall a 5 star experience, but I am only giving 4 stars due to price. It was $90 for a cut and blow out. You get what you pay for and I'm very happy with my haircut, so I was okay with the $90 bill... but heads up if you're budget conscious!! read more

I got my hair colored here for nearly a year and was very happy with the results. I'm picky about my color--a medium brown with gold highlights, which can be hard to get. But the colorist here nailed it every time. I stopped going to the Hive, however, because I got pressure from my colorist to get my hair cut by a particular stylist. I let her cut my hair twice. She spent probably 15 minutes each time on my cut and style and did an OK job. But for $65, I expect a great job. I finally got so uncomfortable with my colorist asking me every time when I was going to have this stylist cut my hair again that I switched salons. read more
