20 Years of Searching - Finally Found It!…read more I've lived in Colorado for 20 years, and I've been dying to find a Persian restaurant that matches King Kebab in Sacramento. Well, I finally found it - Baba Joon Kebabs! I actually drove pretty far from my side of town just to get this food, so I was really excited to taste it. And let me tell you - it did not disappoint. The rice was beautiful, the sauce was perfect, the naan (the bread) was very tasty - everything was just spot on. I didn't have time to dine in, so I ordered takeout. I gave some to my daughter to try, and she fell in love with Persian food on the spot. Then I gave it to my high school daughter, and she loved it too. This was their first time trying Iranian food, and they're already hooked. I didn't get to try the lamb shank this time, but next time I'm going straight for it. And honestly, I need to go back, sit down, and really enjoy eating at the restaurant the way it's meant to be experienced. I highly recommend people give Baba Joon Kebab a try. This is one of those cultural foods you need to have in Denver or in Colorado. Because let's be real - Colorado is a fast food state. It doesn't have much cultural food like this. This is one of the cultural foods you'll actually love. And shout out to the Iranian family running it - they did a great job. Very, very good food. I usually only visit this location for cigarettes or getting my nails done, but when I saw Cleopatra's right next door, I thought I'd try some authentic Mediterranean cuisine, and I'm so glad I did!! AND they do take out!! perfect because I have 3 hungry kids dying for something filling after a day of school...most of all I can feed all five of us without having to break the bank and feel any remorse later on! The kids always order their favorite, gyros sandwiches, which is only $3 more to combo with fries and a drink. I like to order an entree my husband and I can share because these entrees are packed! It comes with a huge salad, a side of smooth, heavenly hummus, a bed of delicious rice, and an assortment of PERFECTLY grilled meat! Just depends what were in the mood for; beef, lamb, chicken, beef kafta (AMAZING!!), chicken kafta, kabobs, chops, shanks, you name it!! When we decided to go out, we really went all out. So my buddy and I wanted have a nice affordable lunch before work, this place was really close and we've never really tried middle eastern food before so we thought we take it for a spin. When we looked at the menu, we had no idea where to begin, but the waitress explained everything and gave us some helpful suggestions and we went for the side falafel for starters, and each had a beef kabob entree. It all came out so quick, we were so happy because not only did we order quite a bit of food before work, but we were really hungry. The falafel came with this really awesome dipping sauce, I would highly recommend, even though it was entire perfect on its own. The beef kabobs were very fairly portioned with plenty of rice, a salad, and hummus. The kabobs were grilled so perfectly, so juicy, right off the grill, then I looked at the menu again and saw I could get a beef kabob sandwich to take to work! I am strict about my vegetarian, gluten-free, low fat, organic diet. middle-eastern food is entirely ideal. although, the only restaurants i can find are very far from my location, until i stumbled upon this lovely little place! The people there were so sweet and so cultured! And the ambiance was perfect, the music is so beautiful! It's very rare for me to find a place I can eat at and leave full and very happy... I usually always order the taboule or lentil soup depending on the weather, because the lentil soup is absolutely divine on a cold snowy day. They have this adorable vegetarian portion of the menu that reads to me a symphony of exquisite flavor! which is so much cheaper than simply ordering several appetizers as i am accustomed to doing. I occasionally venture on this side of town to rent movies, but last trip I made at Blockbuster I came across coupons for Cleopatra that I never noticed before. It was right next door and the employees highly recommended it so I gave it a try. I've traveled a lot and tried Mediterranean food before so I'm pretty familiar with the dishes. I ordered a gyros and chicken shawarma sandwich for my nephew and with the coupon I received a free drink and side of fries. Very excellent food and very fast and friendly service! The sweet potato dish was also quite tasty. The mango lassi was also delicious. It wasn't too sweet and balanced the meal quite nicely. Space is large and service is kind. I am getting older so I can't stuff my face as much. Next time I'm here, I'll order off the menu so I can take food home as left overs.
