My wife and I have both recently started seeing Dr Chiu and we both think he's been great. We are…read morephysicians ourselves (though no affiliation with these guys) and we're very particular about where we get our medical care. The doctor was excellent and I was surprised at how much time he spent in the visit and how thorough he was, giving helpful written notes and explaining his plans in detail. The office was very clean, in fact there were staff buzzing around wiping down surfaces literally every few minutes. I felt very safe re: covid risk. Efficiency was good, too. I was registered as a new patient and brought back within about 10 minutes. Arriving 15-20 minutes before your appointment time really helps, especially since the new patient paperwork is about 6 pages long, all on paper. One note on that paperwork, and having to do with the one-star review I saw here: I noted that review before my first visit and I'll say that the financial forms very clearly state that there can be additional charges for a contacts exam. I've seen a few ophthalmologists here and in another major city, and this is absolutely standard everywhere. Vision vs medical insurance can be weird, but yes, there can be separate charges. This is a medical office (MD docs who are surgeons and doing a lot more than checking your glasses prescription) and if you do more vision stuff (think optometrist) then there can be a separate charge. I think the largest amount stated on the paperwork was $45. This seems pretty reasonable to me, since I'd pay that if I went to Clarkson eyecare for a new glasses prescription. I go to an ophthalmologist to monitor medical eye problems like I would see any other specialist doctor. If I get a new glasses or contacts prescription at the same time, that saves me a trip somewhere else. In summary, don't be worried about sneaky extra charges, everything seemed totally standard to me.

I reached out to the Des Peres Eye Center as a new patient. I called the location (Arnold, separate…read morephone number) where I wanted to have my appointment. I confirmed that they took my insurance. When I arrived at my appointment, I learned that it was at the Manchester location. After driving across town to the Manchester location, I informed the receptionist that I called the Arnold location initially, but they set my appointment for the other location, but never told me. And that even though there are separate phone numbers for the two locations, they both go to the Manchester office, but there is nothing noting this. She didn't seem to care or realize the confusion this would cause. I then handed her my insurance card when she informed me that they don't take my insurance. She explained that they take the medical insurance with my company, but not the vision insurance (this is an eye center). At this point, I cancelled my appointment and left. Huge waste of time!

There have been an embarrassingly high number of times one of us have "lost" a contact that we think is still stuck in our eye and she always has us come in with so much patience and a sense of humor but also a determination to make it right. They are also happy to give you your prescription so you can shop around for your glasses but she has THE BEST warranty with no hassle or paperwork so in the end buying straight from them has paid off.

We had the pleasure of knowing Dr McReynolds for about 10 years. Then lost touch with her when she moved to another practice. Then when we lived in Kirkwood and found out she had opened up West County Vision we were happy to have her close by again. She took care of all our family optician needs during our stay in Kirkwood. She is friendly, thorough, knowledgeable and compassionate. The office staff and optician will make sure you find the right pair of glasses that best suits you. We have never felt rushed, they take the time to get to know you and your family. West County Vision reminds me of that small town practice that knows their patients. Check them out, you'll be glad you did. (Full disclosure, we no longer live in the area)

We've been patients for decades and Dr. Haring is one of the finest folks I know. But since the…read morepractice no longer belongs to him, his spirit of caring community and customer service is being slowly sucked out of the place. I will always come to him for my eye care, but my recent experience buying glasses was very disappointing. I was picking up my $1500 glasses and saw that they are offering a 40% discount on new glasses! I asked to have that applied to my $950 copay and they refused. Why? Because I used my insurance. Does it say that anywhere on the discount flyer? Nope. Not a whisper. It was very disappointing. Not because I didn't get the discount, but because I left there feeling incredibly disrespected and cheated. My hub and I will always see Doc for our eye care but they will never sell either of us another pair of glasses. 3/31/25: The utterly unresponsive response attached to this review actually makes it WORSE. No organization that "strives for 5-star" service acts like this. Now I've been disrespected AND dismissed. Learn from this, John D. If you aren't going to do something about your customers' complaints, don't be dismissive. Just say nothing.

My 3 kids and I have been patients here for several years and my husband recently became a patient…read moreas well. Today, I had a scheduled appt with my 15 year old daughter. We have always declined the optimap pictures, which is a little box you check on the paperwork. It has always said on the form, that if you decline the pictures, you will have your eyes dilated. ( Except during covid, they said it was required, so we all did the pictures at that visit.). The appt after that, we declined them and I asked Dr. Haring if my kids and I needed to do the dilation part of the exam, because the appt had wrapped up and it hadn't happened yet, but he said no, it's not necessary. Ever since, at each appt, we've done the same thing and we have never once been offered to dilate our eyes. I assumed they knew what they were doing and never questioned anything. At today's visit, the office manager tells me they have notes they've been keeping on me that I have refused dilation at every visit, which has absolutely never happened. I've never been to an appointment here without my kids having appointments as well. 18, 15 and 11. They have never been offered to have their eyes dilated either, nor have they ever witnessed me telling any staff member that I refuse having our eyes dilated. She started speaking to me as if I was some problematic patient, when we have been patients for years with no issues. Today they said insurance has changed and it's required to do one or the other, but that I cannot drive if I chose dilation. I was not sure what to do at that point. I didn't mind getting dilated today, I just was not sure about driving arrangements. I was also in complete shock that the office manager told me they have been keeping notes on me refusing dilation, something that I've never even been offered. In fact, was told it was not necessary at my second visit. I tried to figure out what was going on, but she refused to hear me out. The office manager was rude with me, telling me to chose or reschedule for January. Her tone and attitude towards me was completely unwarranted. She could not be bothered to try to remedy the situation. It's the most awful feeling being told you've done something that is completely false and having the office manager so unwilling to even hear what I was saying. She handled the situation so poorly. I chose to leave with my daughter without rescheduling. I prefer to find another office that does not keep false notes about patients and then treat them so terribly when they are surprised to hear that that's what's been happening. Why would they continue to see us, as patients, for so many years, if we refused something they required? Probably because it never happened, I've never refused anything. Why would anyone go to an eye doctor and not want the proper care? I don't even need contacts or glasses. I go to make sure my eyes are healthy. So unbelievably disappointed with how I was treated. Now that I am home, I wish desperately, I would have asked her "what in the world did I do for you to treat me this way?". Essentially calling me, a patient, a liar and not allowing the person she's made all these false notes about to try to figure out what in the world happened. I cannot describe the absolute disheartening feeling this woman left me and my daughter with. This family of 5 will find Eyecare elsewhere.

It was very non descript and in the same strip mall as Oishi Sushi. As you walk up to the door it looks small but once you walk in it reaches far back and you are greeted with tons of selection. I really was impressed. I started with an eye exam that I had scheduled. They took my insurance and were very pleasant and prompt. Following my exam the staff was very helpful with selecting eyewear that fit my profile and face type. I have a big fat asian head and it is often hard to find proper fitting glasses that fit my look. My only concern was the initial cost but you do get what you pay for. Some top of the line frames/designs. I really wasn't even pressured into purchasing which I appreciate. I followed-up and purchased my glasses a few days later after searching around at different stores. The lenses came in about 7-10 days but I was in no hurry. Picking up was a breeze. They offered extra lens cleaning cloths and made sure I was happy with my purchase. I had 30 days to assure I was happy with a return option. Thanks Eyewearhaus for making my experience very pleasant. Thats all I can ask for. I'll be back for a new pair in a couple of years... maybe sooner.

Whatever you do...don't get your glasses made at JCP. I made that mistake and really paid for it…read more I started having headaches and my eyes were so tired. Made an appointment with my eye Doc. She told me, after testing my lens, that they had been made incorrectly. They were too strong in the L eye. I had only had this prescription for 4 months. I went to the store only to be treated poorly by manager. She acted like I was really putting her out. She actually rolled her eyes at me while talking to another salesgirl about what they should do. It was finally decided that they would put the correct lens in the frames. She needed my glasses to send back East. I told her I couldn't even drive home without my glasses. I won't go into all the details but, after a half hour of time it was decided they would lend me a pair of plastic frames and would put the incorrect lens in those frames and have new lens put in my old glasses they were sending away. They actually did what I wanted it was the lack of customer service, the faces the manager, Sara, made at me and just the unprofessional way I was treated that I had a problem with. BAD ATTITUDE !! It was THEIR mistake, you'd think they would have been pleasant so as not to lose a customer. I will never go back!

I should have read Lynn's review before wasting my time at J.C. Penney Optical. Neither their…read moreservice nor their expertise have improved since she had her horrible experience two years ago. DON'T GO THERE!! I wasted an hour on the biggest bait & switch ever.... I went in for the 2 pairs of glasses for $99 special. Having a cheap pair of spare glasses is a great idea, right? Right, but not from JC Penney Optical!! The bait is the 2 pairs of glasses for $99. The salesman assured me I could pick any frames in the store, and when I asked about the $35 upcharge for bifocals, he agreed those were the terms of the special. Still not a bad deal -- $170 for 2 spare pairs, right? Here's the switch: What the salesman DIDN'T tell me until he gave me my $685 total is that FRAMES are not included in the sale. Now since when does a "pair of glasses" not include a frame??? Oh, and the $35 upcharge for bifocals? Not per PAIR of glasses, it's per LENS. It's just as well, since I was getting a bit nervous after it took the salesman an hour to read my prescription, and he kept moving the ink dots on my lenses (the last time anyone used ink dots to measure pupillary distance for my glasses was in about 1974). I don't think the people at JCP Optical know what they are doing, and the "sales" are a joke. False advertising to get you in the store and to invest your time so you'll feel obligated to complete the sale, but if I wanted to spend that much, I'd go to Erker's and get a really high quality pair of glasses. Go to Costco or LensCrafters (two or three doors down at West County Mall) if you want to save a little money and still work with sales people who actually know how to read your prescription. They also know how to use 21st century technology.
