Only since they had a $39.95 for a FULL SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGE is the ONLY reason I went to Tuffy's…read moreat this location. They are the BIGGEST RIP OFF I've experienced in a very long time! Here's a few examples ... TUFFYs on WEST 5th Av told me I needed SUSPENSION STRUTS ($1664 worth) coz my vehicle was "very bouncy" which it isn't AT ALL & they didn't even drive the car! Note: I had a 4 WHEEL ROTATION/BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT the day before elsewhere. I called back to the place that did my alignment to be sure they checked all suspension components (just out of curiosity since it's hard to trust some of these places) and they DID to find nothing that needed replaced! Then Tuffy said I "needed" a BATTERY REPLACEMENT coz there was some RESIDUE on it! Instead of just wiping it off, they'd prefer to rip off a customer! That was going to be $200! They sure don't go out of their way, in the very least! Then I "needed" SPARK PLUGS... (I had those replaced 3 years ago and had no issues there either.) Another $300! Then I "needed" BRAKE FLUID FLUSH (No reason just that it needed to be topped off) Oh they don't do top offs for a simple pouring of fluid into the reservoir until it reaches the full line! They'd rather charge $115 for a FLUSH! Then I "needed" STEERING COMPONENTS (tie rods & steering gear) Again, I had no issues there. Oh, that was an additional $500. The next day AFTER this BS nightmare, I brought the list of repairs from TUFFY to my regular car repair place that I've used for a decade for any major problems come up coz he's proven to be trustworthy. He did a DIAGNOSTIC and found nothing wrong with any of the above issues. (Which I already felt I knew but wanted confirmation.) So, THIS is what they call a "FREE COURTESY INSPECTION!" I'd call it something else but all in all saved myself $3,000 coz I speak up, ask questions, decline and follow thru with what I knew was a means of financial exploitation. Stay away from THIS TUFFY's LOCATION on 1524 W Fifth Ave

The attendant offered me a ride home and back with a Lyft driver. I went ahead and took the ride home when she said it would be a few hours. I tried calling at 4:30 and was on hold for over 20 minutes. I finally got a text at 5:00 stating my car was done. I spoke with Denise at checkout and told her the wait was not acceptable. She explained that they had 15 cars towed in that day along with all of the appointments. Uggh. She offered me a discount for my next service. Great value with the coupon. Time or money is the big question on whether I will be back.

The car stopped starting all together, so we had it towed here. Being a AAA member, I had sole trust they could diagnose a pretty simple problem and resolve it relatively cheaply. Their diagnosis was it was a bad battery. When they called to let us know, I explained that was likely the least possible scenario. Surely they checked the starter? Anyway, they charged me over $100 to pay for a diagnostic fee, to tell me the battery was bad - a free service at any auto parts store and also on a brand new battery. I had no choice but to pay because it was a weekend, and was closing soon, and I needed to get it towed to a different shop to get the starter replaced. I called the service manager to explain, and ask they refund the diagnostic fee since it was wrong and poorly diagnosed. He was too busy to talk and said he would call back. Still waiting for that call. I don't think they intentionally tried to take advantage of me, but that was a pretty incompetent diagnosis of a car that wouldn't start and will not rely on them again.

Mylan immediately greeted me and thanked me for my patience regarding the short wait time. Great customer service! The oil change was smooth and what truly made the difference was the crew. Marquise, the floor manager, was leading the team - he has such an uplifting spirit and clearly keeps everyone motivated. Mylan, Payne, and Eric - skilled mechanics - worked hard on the vehicles. They were focused, efficient, and clearly demonstrated a commitment to safety by being meticulous with every step. Valvoline offers great discount coupons so check out their site while they work on your car. A huge thanks to Marquise, Mylan, Payne, and Eric for the five-star service. I will definitely be back for future oil changes!

Not only do I have a foreign car, I have a solid affection for MINI Coopers and all of the quirks that come with owning a German made British roller skate with a motor. I had come here for routine oil changes prior to the pandemic, but the shop got a little full during shut down and it was hard to get a time that worked for me. Anyway.... when my panoramic sunroof got stuck, open, naturally, this week, I called the dealer and they couldn't offer a loaner car until May (!!) and couldn't make any guarantees as to when they could even get the car into the garage after I dropped it off. So, next option - Tom Hatem. RIck also said I'd have to drop the car off, but it was "because I've got a couple of cars in the shop and I don't want you to have to wait around all day," plus, he was confident that if they couldn't fix the sunroof, they could at least render my vehicle water tight before the rain, so off we went. His best guess was 30 minutes of work, but they ended up needing an hour. Rick did the usual great job of explaining what the problem was and how they fixed it. He had the car ready by the following morning, by disconnecting the motor to the sunroof after he had to take the roof off to reset it manually. Either way, I was pleased not to be rained on. Paid for the labor and he gave me a nice write up on what they did, in case I want to have the roof repaired in the future. and off we went. I will head back over there first the next time I need something.

So over the years I've found myself here upon a few occasions. While some of the experience with my 'beloved car' has been a hate relationship it has also came with love too. Anyways I found this place after a few recommendations came to go to them after some problems a few others couldn't manage or weren't willing too. Tom Hatem has always been good to me. As bad as this will sound I know the gentlemen at the counter quite well. I have been a long time customer since the inception of owning my 'Ultimate Driving Machine'. Some of that has been love and hate, but Tom Hatem has always had me back on the road. They also back their work! That is something that brings me back as some will not offer such a warranty or piece of mind to their customers. If you ever find yourself needing an automotive shop for German cars (more so BMW experts) I recommend them highly. They also work on Audi, Porsche, VW, although BMW is their specialty!
