Excellent BMW repair facility. My 2004 M3 Convertible was in need of some routine maintenance and didn't really know where to go here in Columbus as I am somewhat new to the area. I searched the internet looking for reviews and saw that these guys were highly recommended. I called Best Motor Werks, spoke to Rufus and explained what I was looking for. Told him that I had fallen behind on a lot of regular maintenance items plus the fact that the E46 M3 has the "Big Three" issues (Vanos, Rod Bearings and Subframe Cracks), and wanted the car checked out. Rufus is a real "car guy". He knows his business very well plus he's a real enthusiast. That makes a difference when you own a car like an M. He "gets" the fact that we LOVE our cars. I dropped the car off and told him that he could keep it for a while as it is not my daily driver. I asked for a complete multipoint inspection and a coolant change as it had never been done in the 11 years I owned it. The technician gave the car a thorough inspection and came up with a list of things that should be addressed as well as assigned a number from 1-10 in terms of how soon these items should be addressed. Rufus went over everything on the list one by one and answered any questions I had. There was no pressure to fix everything at once like you might get from a dealer. Since I only put less that 5000 miles a year on the car, there were things that could possibly be addressed next year. The owner John is great, honest and professional. As I mentioned earlier, Rufus is a true "car guy" and understands the love we have for our cars. I will definitely be using Best Motor Werks for all my BMW repairs and maintenance. Seriously consider taking your car here for service. I had my mini in here twice within 3 months, and was told $4,800 later I would need to invest another $4,000 to $5,000 to fix the issue. Clearly misdiagnosed the issue replacing things that really weren't needed. Comment when I picked up my car, "Yeah, every couple months we get burned like this." Also severely upcharges on parts, at least 3 times what is available from any parts store. read more

They tell me when certain BMW recommended repairs are not necessary or can be delayed and which repairs need to be done right away. They get the work done quickly. I trust their judgment. Service is OUTSTANDING! I have been there 3 times since my warranties are now done on my 2014 Mini S and I want don't need to go to the local Mini dealer since I found Best Motor Werks. Great detailed diagnostics, clearly telling me what needs to be done and when.  All work completed on time and done right! Cost is very reasonable and it is so nice to give a local small business my money.  John Best (owner) is really knowledgeable, nice, and honest. Anthony is great too.  Very detailed explanations, gives options, and ideas.  What a pleasure! This last visit was amazing!  Check engine light on and his tech diagnosed it as an emission valve (NVLD), but did not fix it.  Instead, John made me aware it is a know problem and there is an extended warranty by Mini and I should take it to the Mini dealer.  WOW - his honesty saved me $400-$500. I have only been here once. I was looking for a place to service the Mini Cooper other than MAG, because Mid-Ohio Auto Group has the worst service people I have ever encountered. The guy that owns the place is named John, his prices are less than MAG. He has the same philosophy about taking care of a car and make it run for years and I do - so I have found a new service provider for the Mini. And based on what I have experienced so far with the Mini, John and I will be seeing a lot of each other. This is not the fancy marble floor with herbal tea and low funky furniture. But then again I don't feel like I am paying for all of that either. Other big pluses include friendly fast service at a reasonable price. If ou have a BMW or Mini Cooper and live in the Central Ohio area, you should check this guy out. It is located in a low price area, just south of the airport, but once again the price reflects the location. read more

I've had both my 330ci and current 335i serviced at Best Motor Werks. The owner, John, is an honest man and always very clear with his assessment of the problem and a solution. His prices are fair and always lower than what a dealer would charge. He and his service technician, Anson, are highly-skilled in BMW repair and do excellent work. A few years back, the fuel pump in my 330ci failed. John drove to my home and replaced the pump in the driveway to avoid my having to pay a towing charge. That sums it up pretty well. Had my 2004 X3 brought in for hard steering and a triple failure on the speedo,ABS,4x4 lights. All google searches said the triple failure was likely a speed sensor on the right rear wheel. The power steering hose had rusted through and leaked out to cause hard steering. These guys looked at the car and gave me the 'out of state' discount! First the cut the hose too close to the steering rack so told me I needed a new rack ($2200 Genuine BMW part) because they couldn't remove the cut off piece. Then said I need two new front axles ($1200) because the toner rings were causing the triple failure. Total bill would be $5995! (they would not use aftermarket or re-manufactured parts). Toner rings on this car are in the front bearings and not on the axles. Car only has 65K miles on it but its 14yrs old so i am not dropping $6K on it! I had it shipped back to Boston ($650) and my mechanic did all the repairs for $2520. Re-manufactured warranted rack for $850. replace hoses and 1 speed sensor on right rear! WTF? These guys are either ripoff artists or don't know what they are doing! read more

I had the timing chain and oil pan replaced on my 2010 MINI Cooper S Clubman. About a month after the repair, the pan began to leak in my garage. Easily one of the best mechanic experiences I've had. We brought in our Mini which needed ball bearings replaced urgently as well as some problems with an oil leak and an Oxygen sensor replacement. After recently moving to Columbus, I had a service engine soon light come on. After reading the 2 reviews, one of which, was based of of a quote and no actual work? Who writes a review like that? They have numerous 5 star views on google places. Anyway I decided to give them a try since I really like supporting local business. Plus you really can't beat a good honest relationship with a local mechanic. Unlike the giant dealerships, I like talking to the same mechanic every time. Not only did they fix my car, they also gave me suggestions on what will probably need attention in the future. Comparing my prior experiences with mechanics in other large cities, I found this company to be very friendly and they fixed my car in an extremely timely matter. It's tough sometimes trying to find the right place to go to get your car fixed, especially with imports. I went to Best after reading reviews because I was new to the area. These guys were great and easy to work with and I didn't feel like I was getting hustled and could tell they knew what they were talking about. I had to take my car in for an issue that another mechanic said I needed a new transmission for (had a feeling this was not the case). Best fixed my problem for under $900(which was less than the initial quote). They also reset sensors for me that the last mechanic did not do (no extra charge). They let me know of some problems that I may face in the future, so I could prepare for them. Highly recommend. read more

John does do good work, but when comparing prices I found he likes to mark up parts and quotes higher labor time than what is actually needed. After you get John's quote, get one from All Hours automotive (ask for Justin) as well--I have a BMW M5 that needed a new clutch/flywheel and clutch sensor...John quoted me a range of $5,000-6,000 at 10 hours of labor. All hours just completed the work for $3000. They charged me true time of 7.5 hours, allowed me to purchase the parts at true retail cost ($2200parts at Bimmerzone, $800 Labor)and completed the job in 1 1/2 days. Best Motor Werks would NOT allow me to purchase the parts, and was obviously marking them up and would have had the car there for a week. Check Bimmerforums before agreeing to price as you will get a good sense as to what others are paying for the same repair. I think John creates his prices against what the BMW stealership would charge, so it appears that you are getting a fair price when in reality you can get so much better if you shop around. Always remember, a lot of shops do good work, why pay more than you have to. read more
