Googling for a hot new restaurant and I stumbled upon Wolf and I am so glad the fates led me here…read more Was able to make reservations via Opentable. Reservation confirmation said, that door opens at 6:30pm and dinner service starts at 7pm. Phew, I'm sometimes bad with predicting the traffic patterns, so that gives you a little cushion. AND I arrived at 6:30pm on the dot. Ha! Plenty of street parking, but I wasn't sure I was in the right place since there was no sign. But, the building's number is clearly marked. So I stepped inside. There was music playing from the back of the building and I just kept moving towards the music. After 2 doorways, my husband remarked it was like we were entering a speakeasy. We stepped into a living room and proceeded through another doorway to find an open kitchen and jaw dropping red alder dining table. Standing in the kitchen was Chef Riley Eckersley and he greeted us like we were old friends. He had a couple of cocktails ready to pour and explained his concept of his place that has only been open for 3 weeks. Imagine an intimate dinner party (6 guests the night I was there) gathering for conversation while being taken on a culinary journey around Oregon. Throughout the evening, every detail was carefully curated, from the ingredients (from the coast to the mountains, he covered every corner), to the plating, music, and drinks (everything from mezcal, sake, orange wine, etc). The whole experience lasts 2 1/2-3 hours and I enjoyed every minute. I will certainly return as the menu changes with the seasons of Oregon. We began the evening as strangers, and ended as close friends.

The flautas delivered an exceptional crunch with a lot of filling - alongside their lettuce and sauce that just made the dish amazing. The guacamole tostada was to die for. It's refreshing and very unique and complex in flavor. The sashimi was very fresh and beautifully presented. I think I could have lived without the Hokkaido Scallops and the Ceviche, but they were still fresh nonetheless.

Their beverage service seems to be a bit of a cluster as people wanted something while waiting so went to the bar inside which they initially served people but then they started telling people you couldn't order there so would need to wait in the hourish line again for something (ie if you wanted something after ordering your food or like a modelo cause they moved them all from the inside bar to the outside). Probably had the worst tasting Hazy ipa ever from their interior bar as they would only allow cans for the exterior after saying they wouldn't serve the exterior people (much of what they said didnt make much sense and seemed like they just couldnt handle doing that many orders although the interior was only a couple patrons). Took about 30 min to get food. They say they sell out but seems like they just put up the sign and post that on ig once the line length will take them to closing (ie about an hour to hour half line from 8pm). Foods good but seems poorly managed creating waits and wasn't really that busy compared to other places of similar menus.

The waiter came by several times to check in on us and served each course right after we finished the previous course. The seafood was absolutely delicious and everything was seasoned to perfection. I probably wouldn't get the pork again because it was pretty dry but I would definitely come back to try more of their seafood offerings. The lemon curd peppercorn meringue was also delicious and was executed perfectly- such a unique combination.

We were genuinely excited and looking forward to a special evening. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short, especially given the price point and strong Yelp rating. The oxtail croquettes arrived cold, which was surprising for a fried item and set a disappointing tone early. The biggest issue was the hamachi crudo. It had a strong fishy smell with clear hints of ammonia and tasted far from fresh, bordering on spoiled. There was a lingering aftertaste that unfortunately affected everyone's palate for the rest of the meal. We sent it back due to quality concerns. My family and I grew up eating liver and mousse from our own family recipes and from many different culinary traditions. The chicken liver mousse here was creamy in texture but lacked depth and subtle sweetness, and tasted overly mineralized. It was the first chicken liver mousse I have ever not finished. The crab beignets were acceptable, though they could have used more crab. The accompanying sauce was well executed. The miso deviled eggs were tasty, and the anchovy add-on worked nicely. The Parisienne gnocchi, at $40, was not memorable and leaned heavily salty. Steak frites were standard, a dish that is generally hard to fumble. Unfortunately drinks. The shift in service after we sent back the hamachi was obviously uncomfortable and noticeable. The energy dramatically changed. There was little interest in engaging with our feedback. For a meal that totaled over $200, we left disappointed and still hungry. Portland offers many stronger dining options at this price point that deliver both quality and hospitality. Disappointing feels like an understatement. I am genuinely puzzled by the high rating based on the food quality and service we experienced. We will not be returning, nor would I recommend it based on this visit.

Their food is incredible, but even more so, they really put a lot of love into their plating and presentation. I'm always impressed. I stopped by their public tasting room this evening (they're only open to the public for dinner Thursday evenings) and ordered the black and blue burger and Belgian fries. I'm still thinking about how delicious the burger was several hours later! The $15 burger was served in a basket with a generous portion of seasoned fries. The patty was blackened with a delicious blend of spices, and had the perfect amount of crunch with each bite. The blue cheese, bacon, aioli and arugala didn't overpower the burger - it was the star of the show! But everything combined resulted in the most delicious burger I've ever tasted! Nice work, White Pepper! The folks at White Pepper are always super friendly and accomodating, and their prices are in alignment with what I'd expect to pay elsewhere. The tasting room has a hip and modern vibe, and the folks here really understand lighting! With candlelit tables and moody sconce lighting throughout the space, I really feel comfortable and can lose myself in a delicious meal and great conversation with friends. I may become a Thursday regular!

My friend and I had recently started ranking Portland bagel spots and even tried our own bagel-making home attempts so I knew I had to try this place out. I grabbed a variety of bagels for the both of us and giant country loaf as well. The menu/ordering site opens up on Fridays and you pre-order/pick up at Ollini on Mondays between 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm (just down the street from Cafe Olli). I was able to find good street parking nearby and swing by for my order which they put together pretty quickly. Service was quite friendly able to accommodate separating a couple of the bagels so I could more easily hand them off to my friend. I am so so so curious how these bagels taste fresh but I will say they were pretty darn good when we tried them later that day as well. The poppy seed one...did lose a lot of poppy as we ate, but c'est la vie, that's what I expect to begin with. My only qualm was that the bagels were a bit toothsome pre-toasting, but otherwise, good quality and taste. Now the loaf of bread, that's another story altogether. Could wax poetic about how good that is for paragraphs more. I was so excited when I cut it open because I knew I was going to make a set of heirloom tomato stacked tomato toast on this bread. Great taste, texture, flavor. Would absolutely buy again without hesitation. All in all, a really solid spot in Portland for bagels and bread! Put an order in (prices are quite reasonable) and enjoy!!

The endless coffee. They had 2 pump coffee dispensers. One was empty, they brought over a full one when asked. I filled mugs one each out of different dispensers. No clean spoons to stir with. Both mugs of coffee were cold, even from the new dispenser. They promptly worked at getting new coffee. When it was done, I filled my mugs, still no clean spoons. I asked for spoons and they were provided. Later I wondered how long the milk had been sitting there. When I asked the coffee guy about the milk he said they change it every day. I told him I was concerned that it may not be good, he said something to the effect of yeah I understand. I didn't see it checked or replaced. I grew up in Portland, but live out of town. I don't think I will be coming back to this place.
