If you are new to Cuban food, this is a great place to start. They have a great indoor and outdoor seating area depending on what you're looking for, as well as good authentic meal options. I came on a weekday around 6:30 so there were some people there already but not a lot. You walk up to the counter and place your order. We did have to wait a pretty long time for someone to come to the register - about 4 groups lined up behind us by the time we ordered. However the food came out very quickly so not a bad wait. The food itself was good, however I'm accustomed to punchier flavors and these were a little muted - great for those who may be new to this cuisine. Cuban restaurants can have pretty large plates so i really appreciated that they had a kids plate that even adults can order from if they weren't as hungry. All in all a positive experience.

Been coming here for a decade. The most incredible Cuban sandwich you can find in Oregon. Absolutely incredible experience. They're always blasting Cuban music. Perfect spot for a first date too! Make sure to get the mustard on your Cuban!

I was so happy to finally get around to trying Cubo. The food was delicious and definitely gave that comfort food vibe. My wife had a soy Picadillo bowl that tasted sweet but was overall great. I had the ropa vieja plate that was equally full of flavor and delicious. We had a couple of refreshing Cuba Libres, which is essentially just a rum and coke with lime. The service style is order at the counter and get a number. The employees were all kind. The only knock was that while a "plate" is more expensive and advertised as having more food than the "bowl", it certainly didn't appear that way. It seemed as though you get more of a bang for your buck by choosing the bowl option as it includes avocado and 2 sides technically. We also had a couple of beef and cheese empanadas that were tasty. Couldn't get pics of the dining area as there was a large gathering of folks going on. Cubo didn't disappoint and we will definitely be back next time we're in the neighborhood!

We went there right after some Christmas shopping in the area. Very slow night for them, we were the only ones dining in. Liked the upbeat indoor seating. It's very casual, order at the counter and you get a number. They have area for you to get your own water, silverware and to bus your own table later. 3 of us shared the empanadas, sandwich and bowl. Portions were good and our favorites were the bowl and sandwich. Empanadas were ok. Lemonade was great but my coffee was lukewarm so I had to ask for it to be warmed up. We would come back again. I am sure when the weather is nicer eating outside would be nice.

Portland Gem. Delicious flavors, efficiency in service. Clean and tidy. This time had the Cubano sammie with Maduros. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a bit of banana ketchup. Prior to Covid, they had a self serve condiment bar that rocked...

We arrived at Cubo de Cuba right around when it just opened, maybe around 11:30 a.m. The line wasn't long at all. We placed our order and our food didn't take too long to arrive. The restaurant has a relaxed casual vibe, very welcoming. The colors and decor were bright and artsy. I liked that there were choices of seats to either eat indoor or outdoor. All the food we ordered were delicious and satisfying. I was so glad my sister took me there. I hope I'll be able to go back and eat there again as I enjoyed the food and would like to try more the others I didn't get to try. My husband and I shared our food Just so we can taste two different plate of food. He ordered ropa viejas with maduros and I ordered mojo pork plate over greens served with black beans and tostones. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food too.

The food was absolutely amazing. The quality was good. Price is good. Had the guava chicken plate. Which tasted wonderful. Service is like you go to the order window and order there and they bring the food out to you. We sat outside in the back patio. It's dog friendly. They brought the food to us. The day was perfect for it. They have covered seating as well as open seating. Will definitely visit again.

It's been quite some time since we ordered from Cubo de Cuba so we thought we'd have another run at it. We had food delivered and ordered the Mojo Pork Plate, Caribbean Salad, Pollito Bowl and Guava Chicken Plate. The food was ready and delivered on time. The Caribbean Salad was refreshing- lots of cucumber with avocado and mango in a nice lime dressing. The Mojo Pork and Guava chicken were both great! Well seasoned with great tender meat. The pollito was good but didn't stand out. The rice, beans, maduros and sweet potato fries were excellent!

What a great find on Hawthorne! Hawthorne is a quintessential Portland street and Cubo de Cuba adds to the variety! A fun, colorful restaurant, Cubo offers indoor and outdoor seating - perfect for all the seasons of Portland. Their menu features bowls, plates, sandwiches with various proteins and sides all with Cuban flair. I got the spicy mojo shrimp bowl with black beans, tostones, maduros, avocado, mangoes, and rice. It was flavorful, well-seasoned, and the shrimp was juicy and not overcooked. Kinda gave me taco bowl vibes but Cuban style, in the best way possible!! Great flavors and presentation. Don't overlook Cubo de Cuba on Hawthorne. Its colorful interior and bright flavors may just make your afternoon!

I love Cubo so much! My favorite is the pork shoulder with yellow rice bowl. The combination of savory and sweet from maduros is immaculate. Their pork is so flavorful and soft. I love their desserts and drinks as well. Their mojo sandwich is also perfect. 10/10 food and vibes. I personally prefer the hawthorn location over the Mississippi one. The pork and vibes are way better. Dog friendly at their patio!

I got the Havana bowl. It was awesome. It's got pork, sauces, caramelized onion, black beans, avocado, two different types of plantains, mango, an orange peel, and I got mine with yellow rice. And I love all of the different flavors, textures and colors. What a great dish. The pork was great. It had a good amount of crispiness, juiciness and it didn't have any tough bits of fat or connective tissue that are hard to chew. Everything was either crispy or soft and melt-y. Perfect. One of the two types of plantains I've had before and is probably what you're used to, but the other type I've never had before. It is really crispy. I think they must batter and fry it or something. It was so good. I appreciated that it didn't come out oily. The bowl is $14.95 and had a good amount of food. I have a huge appetite and it did a solid job of filling me up. Pretty good value. If I were to nitpick maybe I'd ask for a little more food, but it was fine. The menu does say that plates come with more food for a few extra bucks, but they don't include the avocado and mango. The vibe there is pretty cool too. Lots of room to sit. Outdoor and indoor. Cuban vibe. Overall I was really happy and definitely plan on adding it to my rotation of places to eat at.

I love cubo de Cuba. Perfect time to go during happy hour with affordable cocktails and $5 side. I recently tried the vegan bowl and addicted to the yummy flavors mixed with the vegan "chorizo." Love the beans and rice. Lots of great sides like yucca and maduros that I enjoy. Also, great cocktails like the guava margaritas. The staff are always so kind and the sauces they make are delicious and vegan. I love how there's a patio and it's perfect during the winter and summer.

Walk in and hear the music, let it take you to Cuba. Red walls, teal trim, and freestyle community art gives this place a feeling that real people eat here. What do I love? Besides the good food (and itt is!), They clearly label what is dairy free and gluten free. I ordered the kids menu The Cuban on gluten free bread. I chose the savory fried plantains. The bread was really good and the sandwich tasty. I wish I had requested mustard or a sauce as it was MAYBE a trifle dry. Maybe. Then, I had drinks. The Classic Margarita was exactly what it should be. It had simple, genuine ingredients and was well balanced. Then, I decided to try the Coco-Rita. This is a margarita with Coconut Cream. OMG! Try this drink! The sharp flavor of the lime and the creamy coconut are perfect together. I was here during the street fair, so my service experience may be atypical. They had a line for food and gave a number. Food was delivered to my patio table in a reasonable time. They also had a small bar on there patio where those seeking libations alone could skip the food line. Why mention the street fair? They clearly planned ahead and well to deal with thirsty crowds. I am sure they scheduled extra staff and ordered extra stock. This speaks to their organization and professionalism. Great place. Gives it a try!

I looked at the menu for a while, and EVERYTHING looked amazing. I couldn't decide! I eventually settled on the Arepas Relleno, which is a thick corn tortilla that is fried and split down the middle, then filled with absolute deliciousness! It's a bit of a fragile eat (mine was falling apart as soon as I picked it up), but dear lord is it tasty. My mouth is literally watering as I write this, remembering how good it was. That's saying something! The gentleman working there was very friendly, and kept speaking to me in what sounded like Spanish (I clearly don't speak Spanish). He soon realized I had little to no idea what he was saying, started laughing and apologized after switching to English. All the guys that had been in line before me were speaking Spanish with him, so I get it. Anyway, not much to say about the ambiance as it's a food cart, but overall a very positive experience and I will DEFINITELY be back. I gotta try everything else!

There were many large seating area available. One main cedar table was a big attraction. There is a fireplace with a table by it We got a table. I ordered a Borgona, fruit puree juices mix with Sprite. Never had one, but sounded really good. It came and it was delicious and fruity for a mocktail. We ordered a shrimp ceviche and octopus skewers to start out with. The Shrimp Ceviche was very delicious and it was something that I was very happy to share it with my friends. It was a big portion of shrimp cocktail with salsa on the bottom and these large sized blue chips. It was so good that we ate it quickly. Octopus skewers was a tad charred. Yet very delicious especially if you eat it with the pineapple together. Brings out the flavor of the pineapples quite well. We ordered the Pork Belly Tacos and Mole Shrimp Tacos which came in 3. I absolutely loved street tacos filled with good fresh ingredients. And both of these hot the spot. The pork belly was an absolute great flavor of the pork belly. The Shrimp was delicious. Cook perfectly and easy to devour quickly. DeFuego Nachos had Jalapenos. But wasn't listed. The nachos were delicious and it was quickly devoured. Wings came in 4 wings with garlic parmesan with carrots and celery and ranch on the platter. Heavily garlic on the wings yet very delicious. Half wedge salad was a surprise how much there is in the salad. A lot of fresh veggies there with cherry tomatoes and sliced radishes in it. I had a absolutely fun experience celebrating my birthday here. DeFuego had Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm, seven days out of the week. Seems the Happy Hour here is very popular. I ordered 2 things and both came out wrong. Our waitress spoke very loudly and we could hear her having long personal conversations with people a couple tables away from us for 10+ minutes at a time, several times. While we waited for her, we ran out of water a few times and I had to ask for more. It was over an hour before our order was even taken. We did flag her down to order an appetizer, brussel sprouts with cheese on the side due to a dairy allergy, but... the sprouts came out with cheese on them. They corrected this fairly promptly, but then we sat for another 45 minutes before our order was actually taken. I ordered a steak as "somewhere between medium & medium well" and she correctly repeated my order back to me "medium/medium well." When the steak came out, it was WELL well done. Like, burnt. I wanted to send it back, but I didn't want to deal with the embarrassment or have to wait even longer for food. We were about an hour & 45 minutes into dinner by the time we got our food. I was so disappointed! I also wanted to get dessert to celebrate the occasion but the service was SO slow that we had to cancel our after-dinner plans. We ordered it anyway & requested the check promptly, giving up on our plans for the rest of the evening. We were only a party of 2, we arrived early for our reservation, & we watched several larger parties come and go while we waited for our order to even be taken. It was a Wednesday night and not overly busy, there were several empty tables, so I'm not sure what the hold up was. We were also seated at an odd table next to the kitchen with a small divider between us and the staff. It was noisy and I even heard 2 staff members exchange a joke about how someone else had left & said they'd never come back. They laughed about it. I wish I had the guts those people had to get up & leave! I've never once left less than a 20% tip and felt immense guilt not tipping well, but after experiencing the poor service then also hearing the staff blatantly acknowledge it & not care.... I was appalled. The Hilton bought the hotel attached to De Fuego and I'm shocked. This was a Monarch hotel before and I'd assume that the Hilton's standards would be higher but the service and quality here have tanked hopelessly low since the acquisition. I had a similar experience at The Underground before it closed. I've learned my lesson & won't come here for a special occasion again.
