Love it here! We've eaten here a few times now and everything has been spot on for Cuban cuisine. The Mojo Pork is hands down my favorite with white rice , beans, and maduros. I can also recommend the Guava Chicken as well. But don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself!

If you are new to Cuban food, this is a great place to start. They have a great indoor and outdoor seating area depending on what you're looking for, as well as good authentic meal options. I came on a weekday around 6:30 so there were some people there already but not a lot. You walk up to the counter and place your order. We did have to wait a pretty long time for someone to come to the register - about 4 groups lined up behind us by the time we ordered. However the food came out very quickly so not a bad wait. The food itself was good, however I'm accustomed to punchier flavors and these were a little muted - great for those who may be new to this cuisine. Cuban restaurants can have pretty large plates so i really appreciated that they had a kids plate that even adults can order from if they weren't as hungry. All in all a positive experience.

Portland Gem. Delicious flavors, efficiency in service. Clean and tidy. This time had the Cubano sammie with Maduros. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a bit of banana ketchup. Prior to Covid, they had a self serve condiment bar that rocked...

We went there right after some Christmas shopping in the area. Very slow night for them, we were the only ones dining in. Liked the upbeat indoor seating. It's very casual, order at the counter and you get a number. They have area for you to get your own water, silverware and to bus your own table later. 3 of us shared the empanadas, sandwich and bowl. Portions were good and our favorites were the bowl and sandwich. Empanadas were ok. Lemonade was great but my coffee was lukewarm so I had to ask for it to be warmed up. We would come back again. I am sure when the weather is nicer eating outside would be nice.

The food was absolutely amazing. The quality was good. Price is good. Had the guava chicken plate. Which tasted wonderful. Service is like you go to the order window and order there and they bring the food out to you. We sat outside in the back patio. It's dog friendly. They brought the food to us. The day was perfect for it. They have covered seating as well as open seating. Will definitely visit again.

We arrived at Cubo de Cuba right around when it just opened, maybe around 11:30 a.m. The line wasn't long at all. We placed our order and our food didn't take too long to arrive. The restaurant has a relaxed casual vibe, very welcoming. The colors and decor were bright and artsy. I liked that there were choices of seats to either eat indoor or outdoor. All the food we ordered were delicious and satisfying. I was so glad my sister took me there. I hope I'll be able to go back and eat there again as I enjoyed the food and would like to try more the others I didn't get to try. My husband and I shared our food Just so we can taste two different plate of food. He ordered ropa viejas with maduros and I ordered mojo pork plate over greens served with black beans and tostones. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food too.

I was so happy to finally get around to trying Cubo. The food was delicious and definitely gave that comfort food vibe. My wife had a soy Picadillo bowl that tasted sweet but was overall great. I had the ropa vieja plate that was equally full of flavor and delicious. We had a couple of refreshing Cuba Libres, which is essentially just a rum and coke with lime. The service style is order at the counter and get a number. The employees were all kind. The only knock was that while a "plate" is more expensive and advertised as having more food than the "bowl", it certainly didn't appear that way. It seemed as though you get more of a bang for your buck by choosing the bowl option as it includes avocado and 2 sides technically. We also had a couple of beef and cheese empanadas that were tasty. Couldn't get pics of the dining area as there was a large gathering of folks going on. Cubo didn't disappoint and we will definitely be back next time we're in the neighborhood!

Been coming here for a decade. The most incredible Cuban sandwich you can find in Oregon. Absolutely incredible experience. They're always blasting Cuban music. Perfect spot for a first date too! Make sure to get the mustard on your Cuban!

It's been quite some time since we ordered from Cubo de Cuba so we thought we'd have another run at it. We had food delivered and ordered the Mojo Pork Plate, Caribbean Salad, Pollito Bowl and Guava Chicken Plate. The food was ready and delivered on time. The Caribbean Salad was refreshing- lots of cucumber with avocado and mango in a nice lime dressing. The Mojo Pork and Guava chicken were both great! Well seasoned with great tender meat. The pollito was good but didn't stand out. The rice, beans, maduros and sweet potato fries were excellent!

pretty affordable and tasty, with lots of different flavors complementing each other. their guava cream cheese empanada is particularly memorable for me, but am glad i branched out to try their rice + beans vegan bowl also love how they have dedicated gf fryers that make eating their yummy empanadas possible

What a great find on Hawthorne! Hawthorne is a quintessential Portland street and Cubo de Cuba adds to the variety! A fun, colorful restaurant, Cubo offers indoor and outdoor seating - perfect for all the seasons of Portland. Their menu features bowls, plates, sandwiches with various proteins and sides all with Cuban flair. I got the spicy mojo shrimp bowl with black beans, tostones, maduros, avocado, mangoes, and rice. It was flavorful, well-seasoned, and the shrimp was juicy and not overcooked. Kinda gave me taco bowl vibes but Cuban style, in the best way possible!! Great flavors and presentation. Don't overlook Cubo de Cuba on Hawthorne. Its colorful interior and bright flavors may just make your afternoon!

I love Cubo so much! My favorite is the pork shoulder with yellow rice bowl. The combination of savory and sweet from maduros is immaculate. Their pork is so flavorful and soft. I love their desserts and drinks as well. Their mojo sandwich is also perfect. 10/10 food and vibes. I personally prefer the hawthorn location over the Mississippi one. The pork and vibes are way better. Dog friendly at their patio!

Everything was amazing, very flavorful, tender overall and large portions. Sadly, the carne was a little tough and I would not order this again. The Estofado de Carne had a hot sauce I had on the side. It was a very hot and delicious habanero sauce that was amazing! Great food, we'll be back for sure!!

I looked at the menu for a while, and EVERYTHING looked amazing. I couldn't decide! I eventually settled on the Arepas Relleno, which is a thick corn tortilla that is fried and split down the middle, then filled with absolute deliciousness! It's a bit of a fragile eat (mine was falling apart as soon as I picked it up), but dear lord is it tasty. My mouth is literally watering as I write this, remembering how good it was. That's saying something! The gentleman working there was very friendly, and kept speaking to me in what sounded like Spanish (I clearly don't speak Spanish). He soon realized I had little to no idea what he was saying, started laughing and apologized after switching to English. All the guys that had been in line before me were speaking Spanish with him, so I get it. Anyway, not much to say about the ambiance as it's a food cart, but overall a very positive experience and I will DEFINITELY be back. I gotta try everything else!

I've had 4 years of mostly unremarkable experiences with service in Portland, but Hunter changed all that. He's thoughtful, thinking ahead, smart & an asset to the ambiance. Meanwhile 3/3 items were exceptional, starting with BRISKET EMPANADAS - buttery smoked brisket & ooey gooey fontina studded with tart little golden raisins in a crisp crust - like a cheesy Argentinian gyoza! PAN SEARED SCALLOPS (by the half-order, thank you!) are precisely seared on the outside, sweet & tender on the inside, plated over a creamy sweet corn polenta that contrasts beautifully with the acid in slightly charred, roasted tomatoes. A sensor's world…read more Sight. Smell. Sound. Taste. Touch. Kann was an experience for all five senses, from the moment we sat down at the chef's counter. First came the sight. The colorful contrast of plates and bowls against the kitchen island immediately caught my eye, while the open-kitchen design gave us a front-row view of the chefs and kitchen staff preparing each dish. With about a dozen seats at the counter, we could watch everything unfold right in front of us, including the pastry chef's station in the kitchen. And the smell began to make its way. Even the pastry station had its own sensory signature. I could smell the toasted, almost campfire-like aroma of the charred meringue from the Baked Haiti dessert drifting past us. Sitting near the pastry corner definitely had its advantages. And then there was the sound of the crackling and roar of the live fire. The chefs moving around the kitchen and calling out dishes. The bartender shaking and stirring drinks, with the unmistakable sound of ice. Conversations from the dining room humming in the background with happy customers surrounding us. Every so often, a chef would give a dish the final okay before it made its way out. Next to the kitchen was a wall of chopped wood, a fitting visual reminder that the "behind the hearth" dishes were made with live wood. The restaurant describes itself as a Haitian live-fire restaurant that combines Haitian cuisine with ingredients of the Pacific Northwest. The food was just as vibrant in touch and taste. We started with the Akra, crispy taro root fritters served with remoulade. The outside was wonderfully crisp, while the taro gave the fritters a soft, satisfying interior and a little spicy kick. The Griyo, Kann's twice-cooked pork which is the national dish of Haiti, comes with bannann peze, avocado, and pikliz. The combination of rich pork, crisp plantain, creamy avocado, and bright, spicy pickled cabbage was fantastic. The pikliz (pickled cabbage) in particular added exactly the kind of sharp, acidic contrast that kept the richer flavors balanced. The Epis-Brined Chicken was beautifully cooked and well seasoned, served with corn, tamarind barbecue, and basil. The epis marinade gave the chicken layers of aromatic flavor and was cooked nicely with crispy skin. Then came the Ribeye...one of my favorites of the evening. The beef was rich and deeply savory, paired with ti malice, blistered tomato, and garlic confit. The tomato brought brightness while the garlic and Haitian flavors added another layer of depth. And of course, dessert. The Baked Haiti combines coconut sponge cake, Bavarian cream, Haitian-spiced pineapple, charred meringue, and basil. The smell of the toasted meringue reached us before the dessert even arrived, and the combination of warm, caramelized flavors with the tropical pineapple was a wonderful way to finish the meal. Kann also has a full cocktail program, zero-proof cocktails, wine, and beer, so there is plenty to explore beyond the food. I can absolutely see why Kann received the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant in 2023. Chef Gregory Gourdet brings Haitian heritage, live-fire cooking, Pacific Northwest ingredients, and an incredible attention to sensory detail together in a way that feels complete. And for a sensor? What a playground.
