If you need someone to flawlessly handle the catering for your event, then Hawaiian Luau OC is for you. I recently lost my wife of 40 years to cancer, and she was a Hawaiian dancer for many years. I thought do hold a luau style celebration of life to honor her endless Aloha Spirit and love of the Hawaiian culture. I did not know where to turn to begin to create a perfect evening to honor my wife, but I was blessed to discover Hawaiian Luau OC. From my first conversation with Steve, I instantly knew that I made the right choice. It was like talking to a friend from the first word, and I could tell he was fully invested in doing everything possible to make this evening memorable in every way. He even offered to prepare samples of his food and bring them to my home for my approval. Who does that anymore?!? On the day of my wife's celebration, Steve and his staff arrived right on time and set up a wonderful Hawaiian style buffet that was beautifully decorated. Every item of food they provided was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. I have been receiving compliments for two weeks from my guests saying the smoked pork was, "the best I've ever had" and the teriyaki chicken was so tender that it was like, "the filet mignon of chicken." Absolutely incredible food from the appetizers to the desserts. Now that the event has passed, I am actually kind of sad that I no longer get to work with Steve, because the experience was that enjoyable in every way. If you have an upcoming event, I hope you will consider Hawaiian Luau OC, because you will walk away with total satisfaction and a big smile on your face.

Their bacon-wrapped hot dog and signature piñabero sauce were unforgettable. The meat was tender, juicy, and absolutely delicious. Fast forward to a few years later: I was hosting another baby shower at a venue in Huntington Beach. Even though they didn't have a license to operate in the city--and their pricing was higher--I still really wanted them. I even offered to cover the cost of the business license so they could cater my event. But the day of the event was a total letdown. The staff arrived late and started cooking in foil trays, which immediately raised questions from my guests. I kept trying to hype them up, saying "just wait, this is the best I've ever had!"--but when the food came out, it was disappointing. Tacos and hot dogs were bland, and even the "signature" sauce couldn't save it. Guests were making comments like, "Taco Bell would've been better." To make matters worse, it was so embarrassing that my guests ended up filling up on the pizzas I had ordered for the kids. Since then, I've had friends and family recommend other taco caterers, which kind of stings given how much I once vouched for Mr. Hot Bunz. Really disappointed. I truly hope they can bring back the quality they once had, but I won't be using them again.

Tina was very easy and friendly to communicate with during the entire process, and prepared and pre-cooked our large orders (vegetarian friendly options included) with ease and great efficiency. Their team arrived an hour early to start setting up, and quickly finished setting up within 90 minutes. Plates, utensils, napkins, and sauces were all provided. We ordered multiples of their half trays of fried rice with chicken and beef, stir fry egg noodles with chicken and beef, and Vietnamese chicken salad. We also ordered a large amount of their beef skewers, Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwiches with pork and beef, and Spring Rolls with pork and shrimp. They helped serve the food for 2 hours, and then helped with packing all the leftovers afterwards. The food was very well received by our friends and family members! We definitely would recommend them for their authentic Vietnamese cuisine. We would even like to try their well known Pho service next time.

Just a couple items I would nitpick as the father it was one of the few items I had some input on. Had a fantastic 10 course tasting and would love to do it again. Everything at the tasting was top notch. We paired down our entrees to the following: Braised short ribs A+ Glazed salmon A Butternut ravioli A Chicken Marsala C Ceasar salad B+ ( based on micro portion. Bread and butter B+ Hors d' oeuvres overall A Korean Meatballs A Roasted grape & goat cheese bruschetta A+ Filet roulade on toast A- Poke on chip A Overall service A I recall asking for the lemon garlic potatoes with all dishes and got roasted potatoes which were fine but a grade of maybe B- where the potatoes chosen I remembered as an A. Tipped all the servers but don't understand the 22% service charge on the overall bill. We were charged separately for linens, glassware, stemware and for all the various servers, chef, captain etc so figure that undefined service charge or 22% would be for that. Would use them over again if we did it over. Jayme was wonderful and helpful to deal with and their food was better than the other caterers we sampled. I wanted to have food that people would remember and got tons of unsolicited feedback from many of the guest stating the salmon was excellent and that the short ribs were the best they've ever had. That says alot when you're serving over 130 people.
