Large deep dish pizza with anchovies and pepperoni
    Mike G.

Stopped in to CJ's on Sunday specifically for pizza since the last time downtown it was a little too crowded. Ordered a glass of wine and a small Greek salad as an appetizer and then a large deep dish Detroit style pizza with half anchovy and half pepperoni. The salad was a good size and it was fresh and had a nice flavor dressing. It came out with three large pieces of freshly baked ciabatta style bread with sauce, which was substantial. The pizza came out perfect. It was nice and crispy on the outside and was light and airy but substantial enough with a good mix of cheese and sauce. Im picky when it comes to pizza but thought the pizza was excellent and will definitely return. Next time I'll come back for a regular hand tossed pizza to try it out. Overall 4.2 good pizza!

We had heard from a lot of people that CJ's had great pizza so my husband - a huge pizza aficionado- decided we should check it out. It is a very small place and seating to be honest is not optimal. We initially were sitting where people were paying for takeout and leaning over our table so we ended up moving to another table but tables are small and the area is narrow. It was relatively quiet which was nice. We ordered some draft beers which were served immediately. We ordered the margarita pizza. Everyone was right- their pizza was hot and delicious and a good size. Service was excellent. We will definitely be returning to check out some of their other pizzas as well as their food.

This an eclectic pizza-Italian restaurant in the Village Pier area of St. Simons. My wife & I were greeted by a friendly waitress who seated us and provided our beverages quickly. We ordered a Greek salad with our Deep Dish pizza. As an FYI, you get garlic bread free when you order a salad which is served warm with a side of marinara. Same sauce is used on tomato based pizza's. The sauce is a bit sweet & has a deep flavor! The Greek salad was tasty!! The Deep Dish pie we ordered was The Special. Excellent! Even though a deep dish pie, it wasn't doughy and the ingredients used were fresh and made the experience fun. The flavor reminded us of a pizza place in Gainesville, FL called Leonardo's. Job well done. We have lived in St. Simons for almost 2 years and finally made it to CJ's. This will become our go to pizza from here on out!!! Keep up the great work!

Friday night we just arrived at St. Simon's Island. Tried the closest Italian restaurant to us. Parking on Mallory St is a premium, got lucky for a spot in front. Service was fast, salad and house bread very good, crust greens and tasty house dressing. Took 1/2 hr to get our meal but take out was 2 hr wait for deep dish pizza, we plot for a sandwich and Italian dish, the last piece of lasagna for the day. Cute decorations hanging from the ceiling

Deep dish meatball (small, four slices). It vanished in minutes. Just excellent.

BOGO reviews. We went back. Day one: CJ's Italian is about 100 yards from our accommodations. Excellent! One of us got stuffed shells; ample and perfect. AnotherI got spaghetti and meatballs (three large and tasty). Incredible bread. Salad with homemade dressing. Blue Moons. A hole in the wall; seriously tiny. But great and the ceiling art is a real treat. Day two: Back to CJ's Italian across the street. Best pizza I've ever had. Deep dish. My wife got pepperoni/four slices. I got meat ball. Just wonderful crust and cheese. We had planned to take leftovers to the beach for lunch the next day. There were no survivors.

The deep dish and the service and the ambiance was outstanding. Our family enjoyed this as part of our vacation and we recommend it to everyone.

Small pizza CJ special. and cheese bread

No parking for a sit down. We found a take out parking spot, which we ran in to order and got it to go. Food was just ok. We tried the pan special pizza, which was pretty good, hubby didn't care much for it as it was a deep dish with glob of sauce to top. Spaghetti and meatballs were ok, but nothing to come back for. The cheese bread was very disappointing, it was their focaccia bread with cheese on top put in the oven just to melt.

Who was informative, attentive & knowledgeable about the menu and expressed his favorites. My wife & I had reservations for Valentine's Day dinner & as I mentioned earlier, Kyle was our server who did an excellent job! He recommended the Flank Steak empanada & Spinach empanada as well as the Caprese' salad to start the meal. All were awesome! We also had some adult beverages. My wife had a glass of Riesling & I had a vodka tonic with twist of lime. The vodka provided was Kettle One. For the entrees, I had the Flank Steak (medium) with roasted veggies. Steak was done perfectly and veggies were cooked with a little firmness, The chimichurri sauce & herb salt with the Flank Steak was a great addition to the dish. My wife had the Pear & Gorgonzola Sacchetti which was a bit savory & sweet. The presentation was very nice and would say the pasta is like a tortellini. Excellent! To close out the meal, I had another Vodka tonic w-lime & my wife has the Del Sur Ole' Fashion w/Bulleit Bourbon. Both cocktails were spot on! This will be a spot I will frequent more often than other establishments I have frequented since moving to SSI 2 1/2 years ago. If you have never been, you need to put it on your dining wish list! Great job for making this Valentine's Day special!

Dinner: Dinner was amazing! The Cresta de Gallo is absolutely incredible with the mushrooms and Parmesan. Highly recommend! They also had a killer Cesar salad with anchovies. We ordered espresso martinis and sazeracs at the Tavola bar and they were perfect. The bartender, Parker, is just the BEST and she even remembered us from our visit last year. Dinner food and drinks and Parker were 5-stars for sure!! Breakfast: The Tavola breakfast experience is different from the dinner experience. Our friend ordered a $14 "fruit smoothie" off the menu and they brought out a glass of Bolthouse Farms Berry Boost Juice in a glass. The same one you get at Walmart for $2.50. The waitress was kind and polite and brought him a replacement which was Bolthouse farms green juice, but certainly not a smoothie. The eggs, sausage, and coffee were all pretty good and the grits were great! If you come for breakfast, get the grits and coffee! They have a breakfast buffet on the weekends, but we were there during the week and ordered off the a la carte menu. Service is always exceptional here and we appreciated the staff's kindness and attentiveness to our requests.

So, after moving to GA recently, we decided to go back for my birthday. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the old Italian look of this place. We could not have asked for a better table location as we were all the way in the back and tucked away in the corner, very private and romantic. The only issue is the circular coach seating was worn out, and I knew with bad back I might in for an uncomfortable night. The service itself was professional, but not very friendly. While most staff members seemed to smile and appeared to be enjoying themselves, our waiter acted like he did not want to be there. As for the food, it just did not measure up to the past, as there was 1 great dish, 1 OK dish, 1 not so good and 1 just bad. We started out strong with Denver Lamb Ribs with a sweet Ginger soy sauce glaze. Easily the best rib dish we ever had. We debated on our next dish between the Lobster Cocktail or Stone Crab Claw and unfortunately went for the Crab as it had years since we had some. We both agreed the Crab meat did not seem fresh as it was mushy and the sauce lacked the tang of a traditional Stone Crab sauce. We both ordered the Crispy Scored Flounder as that is the reason we came here in the 1st place. The dish is a Flounder, that is scored on both sides into easy chunks to eat, with and Apricot Shallot Sauce. Overall, it was an OK dish, but not as good as either of us remembered as it could have used more sauce on top of the fish. We finished up with a poorly executed Bourbon Pecan pie. This dish looked (see picture) and tasted not much different than a Little Debbie pie you buy in boxes of 10 at the grocery store. This small round piece of pie had zero Bourbon sauce or flavor whatsoever. The dish seemed so out of place both looking and tasting, that I went to see what others posted on yelp, and what we were served didn't even come close to previous dinners experiences. Not a great way to end my birthday dinner.
