The service was horrendous. Over-priced and their ice cream is not worth the incredibly rude customer service that you experience. Went two days in a row to give them a fair chance and I have to say, we had two different servers and got the same horrible service. Went in for ice cream and asked for samples (as anyone does when going to an ice cream shop with lots of different / new flavors) the worker said "three strikes you're out" aka no more samples for you. Which I would think, if there was a sampling limit, they would either post this somewhere, tell you up front or not allow them at all. His comments and tone were so incredibly rude, that me and my friends were positive that he was joking around, except he wasn't. He proceeded to say he was serious and that it was time to make my choice and that he would not be giving any more samples, as if he suddenly decided this on his own based on his mood. I've been to hundreds of different ice cream places and never before have dealt with such TERRIBLE customer service. I was here last night. The person that served us was rude. Not a single smile. "What do you want?" and "what else you want?" we're the tones we got. I ordered a banana boat to share with my husband. I wanted all toppings on top except for whipped cream. The toppings we got we're chocolate syrup and walnuts. I was expecting at least a cherry on top. I don't recommend this place. Island Oasis is like a slurpy gone wild with 100x more flavor and is the best frozen drink around. Dont believe the non fat because with all the sugar it has. Oh my! If you have no self control and your indecisive then this place is not for you. The choices are expansive! There are so many dairy free options and in soft serve as well! Staff is cool and attentive. The ice cream is fresh and creamy and u can even have a nice cup of joe if you prefer. Lines get long but they do a pretty good job of moving it along. Definitely would rate it 4.5 stars if I could! The blue berry ice cream was phenomenal. The girl behind the counter recommended it and offered me a sample. I was sold. They have some seating available on a small porch which was nice even at night. I believe they are open til 10pm which was also helpful since we stopped in for a treat a few hours after dinner. The location appeared to me to be the best in downtown Bar Harbor. I liked the ambience here far more than the other two shops that I saw on the main street. The red and white awning has more of an old fashioned appeal that I enjoyed. Overall a very pleasant experience. Price range was moderate, somewhere around $3 for a single scoop cone. Portion size was adequate. They had several inventive flavors, one was called something like "I haven't decided yet" and it had oreos, cookie dough, fudge swirl, or five other random icecream components all mixed into one. Let me start off by saying this: the ice cream tastes great. Although, my siblings and I were SUPER FRUSTRATED by the fact that we got our ice cream and when it came time to pay, they told us they only accepted cash. Most places do this and it makes sense except for the fact that there was no sign (only at the register) that informed this. Luckily one of my sisters and I had some cash, but my other sister couldn't get the ice cream. This made me angry. I understand the fact that it helps having only cash for business purposes, but they need to have a way to let us know beforehand. Really hope this is an easy fix. Also, as I walked out it seemed like they were going to put the 2 different flavors back into the big containers. This is a HUGE allergy hazard. Did they have a huge selection of flavors? Yes. Was the little park across the street a nice place to sit and eat it? Absolutely. However... Do they accept any tender aside from cash? No. Are the prices reasonable? No, not at an average of $5/ item. Did the girl who cashed me out get sticky ice cream ALL OVER my hand as she gave me my change? Yes. A major highlight of my Maine vacation was comparison shopping. Basically, I tried every ice cream place available to me. Sure, ice cream is expensive in Bar Harbor, but what isn't expensive there? I liked CJ's the best because their ice cream scoop size is pretty darn proportionate with the price they charge you. I also liked the variety of flavors they had the best. They have some pretty clever titles for those flavors, too. They also pack their ice cream FULL of cookie dough pieces, peanut butter cups, nuts, etc. If you want chocolate cookie dough explosion, you'll end up with something that tasted like Nestle Tollhouse exploded in the tub. Unfortunately, they don't accept credit cards. I think this is kind of ridiculous. It you're a family of 4, it could easily cost you $40 for ice cream and it would just be easier to swipe a debit card than juggle your big-as-your-head ice cream cone while fumbling for all that cash. So ordered yourself two scoops of Deer Crossing, hand over your $6 bucks, and chow down. It's going to take you a while to get through all that chocolate and peanut buttery goodness! read more

Cash only I had the tiramisu gelato - it had real chunks of cake and the flavor was there. Portions were big, the scoop was overflowing off the sides of the cone. We went in after dinner and were trying to decide if we had enough room for ice cream. I asked what was made in house and the woman from Jamaica (I think that was the accent) said the gelato. I went over and asked about the flavors and another women told me the flavors. Most of them were peanut butter which I like but I knew my husband didn't like peanut butter. I turned around and my husband said he was getting the blueberry ice cream. When I turned back around all the gelato but one were out of the case. I said I'd take the peanut butter gelato and when she went to scoop it up she told me the one in the case was soy. I said no I wanted the regular gelato. She said, "Oh, she already wrapped that up. Mount Desert Ice Cream gets all the hype, but this place is better. We stopped in to Mount Desert and took a peak at the selection and prices, then walked across the street to CJ's and saw how big the portions were and all of the flavor options. I got 2 scoops and they were huge! The ice cream is very creamy and it's packed with goodies. The blueberry cheesecake ice cream actually had big chunks of cheesecake and tons of blueberries.
