Obsessedddddddddddd with Pugnuts! From the vibe on the outside to the delicious ice cream, you cannot go wrong with stopping in here. On my wife and I's Maine Ice Cream trek, this was our second stop. It took so long to figure out which flavor to get because they have such good combos. They, of course, have the traditional flavors but they were very inventive with others which I always love. The flavor I ended up getting was something along the lines of coffee and brownies? I can't exactly remember the name because they change their specialty flavors daily but mannnnnnnnn it was so good! My wife got strawberry; deliciously simple. Service was kind and efficient and it was a lot larger inside than we expected so plenty of room to sit and enjoy your tasty treats. I would fly back to Maine just for Pugnuts. This is my second yelp review and I have to say it is a good one. First of all the outside off the store had multiple different very cute designs, the outside Also had multiple out side seats. Moving on to the inside of the shop we got greeting with one of the most friendly and real employees we have seen in quite a while. The store also had multiple nice decorations, and the decor was very good overall. Moving on to the food, it was succeeded my standards but it wasn't as good as other ice cream places I had. Went to Pugnuts on the recommendation of a fried, so I was stoked to go. My excitement was short lived. Very disappointed with the ice cream and the service. I went in all excited and told the girl behind the counter it was my first time. No response. I ordered the coffee ice cream with chocolate chunks. How disappointing. The ice cream barely tasted of coffee, it was more like muddy vanilla. The chocolate chunks were cookie bits, not chunks. Luckily I only got a single scoop. My companion got Fluffernutter which tasted like a random chunk of peanut butter on vanilla, not anything close to marshmallow. It was ok, but not worth any hype. The single scoop cost 6 bucks. A close friend & I visited Maine a week ago for a girls trip. Our airbnb was right down the road from Pugnuts and we are both big ice cream people and even bigger dog people so this was an easy decision for us to stop by and give it a try. The two girls behind the counter were very sweet and my two choices for ice cream / gelato was their blueberry ice cream and honey lavender gelato. My only complaint is that we put the honey lavender on top as the blueberry ice cream stood no chance to how amazing the honey lavender gelato is. I am in mourning 10+ hours away thinking of this gelato every day for a week now knowing the perfect combination of those flavors are residing in a pug themed ice cream shop out of my reach. Life is forever changed for me. Honey in my tea? Lavender Honey gelato thoughts. Lavender latte? I could be enjoying the gelato with pug figures all around me in bliss. It is probably safer for my health that I am not in commutable distance daily to this gelato but my mental health will be grieving this treasure. The lobster claw shaped ice cream cones/sticks are a very unique item- I haven't come across them elsewhere in Maine. My partner always gets mint chocolate chip with rainbow sprinkles. I tried several fruit flavors before settling on c Restaurant is very clean and the customer service is great. They are willing to let you try as many flavors as you want, which is good for the more exotic choices. Our family friend lives in a nearby town and says the Annual Pug Jamboree and Pug Parade is not to miss. She and her Pug dress up in costume and join the other Maine pugs for some fun and games. Update- we have come back here during the COVID-19 pandemic and were very pleased with how PugNuts is implementing safety measures. I bring my visitors here almost every time someone is at camp. We went out of our way yesterday to drive there from Penobscot for our lunch dessert and where not disappointed. Blackberry on a sugar cone and a chocolate combination on a sugar cone were the orders. A healthy small serving allows the customer to flavor two ice creams in one cone which I thought was nice with the small serving. For a 2 o'clock on a Thursday there was a steady crowd of tourists and what appeared to be regulars. The crew on hand was most solicitous. Wonderfully set up for the CV situation. Great intercom for ordering. Simple system and you get ice cream fast. Staff friendly and helpful. I had been waiting to try for months. Unfortunately, taste wasn't close to the reputation. No hot fudge and my gelato tasted like wood thanks to the wood spoon. I applaud caring for the environment, but if you want to spend some money for hopefully good tasting ic/gelato, better also bring your own spoon. Otherwise I suspect all flavors will taste the same - wood! Reminded me of Italian Ice from the ice cream truck as a kid. That always tasted like the wood spoon too! I moved up here in January and one of the guys on my construction job told me about pugnuts. I dragged my dad in there one day early this spring and we had quite literally the best ice cream ever and I'm from Amish dairy country PA.
