We stop at CJ's when we want a quick, well prepared sandwich. It turned cooler in SoCal so we were able to sample some if the homemade chicken and rice soup with our sandwiches at our last outing. The soup was absolutely delicious... being homemade it wasn't overly salted as some chain restaurant "batch" soups tend to be, the broth itself was tasty with the right amount of chicken pieces and rice. Also, there was celery pieces added that provided a wonderful crunch to each spoonful of soup. Normally, we get a large sandwich combo, but I think we may get the half sandwich with soup in the future. Truth be known, I'm a pushover of a well prepared homemade soup! After see this place on Yelp I called to make a phone order because it's close to my work. I asked what came with the Chicken Teriyaki. The employee said "why don't you come in and order instead of asking questions over the phone." I found him to be very rude and abrasive to me for only asking a question about the food they sell. Lots of positive reviews made me bookmark this joint to check out their sandwiches. I have mixed feelings because I do want to support small local businesses, but I also have to be honest about the quality of their food and service. The guy behind the counter has heaps of energy with plenty to spare. He tends to rush you at the counter, I think because they must be busy at certain times of the day. He started asking a guy who looked like he just left Chuze Fitness what type of sneakers he should buy. The guy was like, "Uh, depends on what you want to use them for." Guy Behind The Counter wouldn't let it go. Chuze Guy just kept repeating the same reply. I ordered a turkey, pastrami and cheese sandwich on squaw bread. I like that my sandwich was encased in plastic wrap which made it easier to eat. None of the stuff on the inside could slide out with my paws wrapped around the plastic. The quality of the meat was below average. It tasted like the prepackaged, processed deli meats from Costco. At first I thought they forgot my cheese until I located a very thinly sliced wedge glued to the top of my bread with mayo. The lettuce is shredded which I do like. But honestly, even Subway has shredded lettuce so it's not that special. Overall, it's an inexpensive sandwich and tastes like it. I will not return, but if you don't mind subpar sandwiches at a cheap price, there are worse places you could go, although I can't think of anything worse than CJ's. I'm perplexed at the number of people who give this place five stars. Something ain't right. read more

I was really excited to try out this place after hearing good things. So let me tell you about my experience. I was greeted when I walked in which in my books is a plus it was my first time there so I didn't really know what I was getting the man who greeted me asked what I would like and was going at at super fast speed I felt at little rushed but didn't think much as it was noon and probably expecting a rush or was just busy but he was super friendly.. anyways we got our food fairly quick from the 10 min I was there I was pretty satisfied, I got greeted and got my food quick! Got home at my sub and it wasn't bad but I don't see what was so great, it seemed to be lacking something I just can't tell you what it hardly had flavor the bacon was great as it was real bacon but that was it overall I would of rated them a 3 star just based on the blan food but good service maybe a 4 star if they wernt so pricy, my husband ate the teriyaki and said two thumbs up but halfway through it discovered a hair about 4 inches long, I hadn't opened or touched his food and he defiantly doesn't have long hair lol to me that's just a deal breaker, people seem to like this place I gave it a shot but after the hair I won't be returning I was told to leave a review on yelp goof or bad and I guess it could of of been good but the hair ruined it for me :( read more

Man I was expecting more. This place was so hyped up by everyone. I came in here expecting greatness and left with a below mediocre experience. First off came in and ordered a meatball sub. If those in cypress remember meats gourmet you know how amazing those were. The guy who took my order seemed friendly enough. But, seems like he bosses around the people in the back working for him whom I assume are his family members. Idk about most people, but I don't go around bossing around my elders. My sub came out in a reasonable amount of time. And decided to take it home to eat cause the configuration of the place is a little odd and it already had a buncha people around. Took a bite of the sub. And first off let me say how underwhelmed I was! Never in my life have I had such a bland culinary experience. The meatballs pretty much tasted stale and lacked any real texture. The marinara sauce was a slap in the face. It was watery and lacked any real seasoning. I'm not sure what all the hype is about. I'm almost offended that anyone recommends this place so highly. I've had a better sub from a terrible chain like subway. If the owner reads this please message me so I can send you my address. Highly recommend! ==================================================================== A little about me because this is important to the review (everyone is biased through their background, right?): I'm a southern Californian who is a self-proclaimed foodie. I refuse to eat bad food. I'd rather starve. You should also know that my parents owned Subs N Grub from 1988 - 2006. I worked there as an 11 YO all the way up to after college. So I know a thing or two about a good sandwich. What's solid about this place: 1. Fun variety of sandwiches. Nothing super weird, all the good standards. I highly recommend the turkey bacon avocado (The Triple??? they had some funky name with it). The bacon was super crispy! I would have liked to get more avocados, but to my surprised, lots of bacon on this baby! Get it on the roll. There's no reason to get it on any other bread. Note: we also tried the egg salad on squaw bread and the sandwich with turkey and pastrami in it. I personally love egg salad and squaw bread, but this one is a bit bland. You probably should ask them to salt it or do it yourself. I liked the turkey and pastrami one, but I can't recall too much about it besides me thinking it was pretty good. 2. Clean establishment. Like FREAKISHLY clean. I didn't see any dirt anywhere. 3. They have salads, too. Nice alternative if you're trying to watch your carbs. 4. If you have money, they'll take it. Lots of mom and pop shops are cash only, which I get since that's how my parents operated, but if you like your plastic, they'll be more than happy to take it from you. What you should know before coming here: 4. There is no parking. It's in a strip mall and if it ever gets busy, WATCH OUT. You could just park where the DQ is and walk it. Would only take you three minutes, but that kinda bugs, I bet. 5. Awkwardly spaced. Do not bring 15 people here and think it's going to be a party. It's not. Take those suckers TO GO if you've got a crowd with you. In fact, if you have more than a couple of sandwiches, I'd call it in and have them ready for you when you arrive. 6. WOW. Can we make these sandwiches any slower? We waited for what seemed like too long for our three sandwiches. But I'll tell you what - it was worth the wait (thank goodness we had the time): the sandwiches were PERFECTLY put together - nothing fell out, good, even portions throughout, etc. The worst part about growing up eating sandwiches is you know how to put a sandwich together and no one else seems to do it as well as you do. Well, I've met my match! I was rather impressed. 7. The turkey meat was a bit processed for me. The bread was very good and the veggies were fresh. Not IN LOVE with the meat, but it's definitely better than Subway. My advise: A. Call in your order when you figure out what you like. Or if you're just all that picky and like a variety of sandwiches. B. Take a couple of friends and ask them to cut your sandwiches into 3 or 4 pieces and try a bunch out. C. Be patient with the dude taking your order. I do not wish to upset or offend, but I'm a public school teacher and let me just say the guy is "on the spectrum". SUPER friendly, super nice, but definitely a little different. If you're good with that, you're gold. But he definitely registered as odd and aggressive. He talks really fast and wants you to talk fast, too. I am a very fast talker but my husband is not, and he ordered the sandwiches. ;) D. Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for samples. Don't know if you'd like the roast beef? Ask for a piece. I asked for a sample of the egg salad before trying. I liked it enough to order it but it turned out a bit bland for me (as I mentioned above). E. Go at an odd hour. I cannot imagine a lunch crowd in here: it's awkwardly spaced and they're not fast sandwich makers. We went after school, so roughly around 3:30 and there was one other set of customers there already eating so we got out of there relatively quickly. I really hope this business does well. I heard from some of my FB community members that things got a bit nasty between this place and Subs N Grub and that's most unfortunate. There's enough room for THREE great sandwich places for our town! Don't fight! Now if we can just get one on Katella, we'd anchor this town with solid place to get sandwiches at. UPDATE: This place does not open on Saturdays any more. OH, so sad! read more

We had C.j.'s deli cater a very important client. The service was absolutely wonderful and all the food was delicious. It was our first time there and we had ordered a very large amount of food. We were feeding about 140 people. The owners had everything made on time and the food was packaged beautifully. We appreciate the personal service from the owners of the deli. Jonathan provided his personal cell number just in case we needed anything else. This catering was extremely reasonably priced. Happened to be in the mood for a sandwich and I opened up the trusty Yelp app and began my search. This little place came up nearby and I drove right there. The place is in a little strip center, at Ball and Walker. A very nice guy takes my order, which was a turkey, avo, provolone, lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard, on squaw bread and a bag of chips (8.50). I went back to work and opened the bag to find a beautiful, soft, delicious sandwich. Everything was perfect, the bread was soft, the avo was ripe, and the turkey was flavorful. As I was eating into the first half I bit into something very hard and rubbery, almost like a soft bone or gristle. I think they grind whole chicken down to make the salad, so that's probably why it happened. Just had a terrific roast beef, pepper jack cheese sandwich on squaw bread with avocado. Was hoping this latest business to settle on this corner of Walker & Ball Road would have great food and BE SUCCESSFUL! YES!YES!YES! Roast beef was very tasty and served Med rare which I love! Poor guy, I came in asking what brand of roast beef they had, figuring it would not be Boar's Head because they would have advertising up announcing that. He pondered for awhile finally smiling and telling me it was a "trade" secret. Fair enough, I asked if I could just take a peak at it? Once produced, it was a moist looking delicious looking bag of Med rare meat. I placed my order. The proprietor (I believe) told me when I inquired if they were advertising it was a start up business and they were relying on word of mouth and Yelp. He asked me to place review on Yelp if I liked it or not:). Well, no worries there-i have FINALLY found in my neighborhood a terrific sandwich business so I don't have to gag while trying to eat a Subway sandwich. The roast beef had to be a half an inch thick, soft squaw bread that was very fresh. My only criticism would be to slice the cheese a little bit thicker. Today I was in the mood for RED MEAT but the guy sitting eating a sandwich told me the turkey was excellent. Can't wait to come back and try out the rest of their LARGE menu choices. While I was pre bummed that the Katsu Noodle School closed, I'm happy to say CJ Deli is a delicious replacement! I stopped in today, around noon, and ordered a #49 "Submarine"; I opted for the Regular, instead of Large, on a French roll, with everything. DELICIOUS! I even had to let the sandwich sit for a little while, because I had some errands to run, and it was still very fresh by the time I got home. The "Submarine" is a standard Italian sandwich; it has ham, cappacolla, salami, mortadella, provolone, and Italian dressing. It also came with tomato and shredded lettuce. They don't skimp on the meat or dressing. I was stuffed by the time I finished. And at $6.75, I thought it was a good deal. Their menu has a lot of variety: standard Cold and Hot Sandwiches, Specialty Sandwiches (of which the Submarine is one), Healthy Sandwiches (which look interesting and far from boring), "Sumptuous" Salads, Homemade Soup (of the day), and House Special Teriyaki. They also offer a Breakfast menu with Sandwiches and Burritos. All sandwiches come on either: French roll, white, wheat, Rye, Squaw, or sourdough. The Breakfast sandwiches come on either: white, wheat, Rye, Squaw, sourdough, croissant, or bagel. The burritos are made with flour tortillas. You can make any sandwich a meal by adding chips and a drink. The chip variety looked pretty good; they offer a selection of fountain drinks (self-service) or specific drinks (Starbucks iced coffee, bottled water, etc.). Deli Specials are meals, like, 1/2 Cold Sandwich and Soup, etc. The most expensive Special is $7.25, which is a total steal! The location is a little small but very clean and bright. What did I just eat?! I'm still reveling in the humble, pure, fresh sandwich I consumed. I ordered their regular #2 chicken salad sandwich w/ avocado and was blown away. I don't think I've ever written such things about a sandwich before and am so sad that I don't live closer to eat here everyday. I did find a small chicken bone in my chicken salad, but that just proved to me this restaurant uses their own cooked chicken. Thank you CJ deli for not slathering your sandwiches in overpowering sauces and confusing my tastebuds but letting each ingredient sing and meld with the other in perfect harmony.
