I just came back from a trip to Barcelona and Ciudad Condal i visited 3 times for lunch. I only had to wait for 10 min on one of my visits all the others i was sat with a group of 5 others. The service is amazing as well as all the tapas options and the local cervesa was incredible. I can highly recommend the Pan con Tomate', the mushrooms , asparagus and of course their patatas braves which has the best darn garlic aioli i had while in Barcelona. Get the fois gras and steak for sure. With 5.75 Euros you can have a Micheline star experience. After that it is a game of mix and match with food and drinks. We got the mushrooms, razor clams and anchovies. All were great but the steak and fois gras was the highlight of our trip. read more

A friend and I made a stop to grab something quick in the mid afternoon. We were able to grab two stool at the tapas bar. We were greeted nicely and provided menus right away. I liked the atmosphere with lots of natural light and were able to chat comfortably. An observation---I didn't see any kids at the table outside or inside. We ordered just a couple of tapas and a couple of drinks. The tapas seemed very traditional; the ingredients tasted fresh. The prices were fair. Really cool restaurant with tapas. Unfortunately, had to wait 45 minutes for a table for three people-- We went around 9:30pm on a Sunday. That being said, the timeliness of the service was great once we were seated. We had a bit of a tough time communicating with the waitress, which was to be expected in Spain (my Spanish is terrible). Our table ended up ordering a pitcher of Sangria, which was pretty good. We ordered a handful of tapas, all of which were tasty. Nothing was exceptional, except for the bread pudding dessert. So glad our last meal in Barcelona was at this restaurant. We arrived hungry and tired, and left with full bellies and happy hearts. It was busy at night, and our host originally told us it would be a 10-minute wait at least (which seemed short to us) but then he immediately came back and ushered us upstairs to a nice dining area. We couldn't decide on what to order and were taking forever to make decisions but our server was friendly and helpful. He suggested one of the samplers with multiple items and said he could make the portions for our group of 6. He also recommended a surprise tapas dish which was amazing. The honey aioli cod was a crowd favourite - melt in your mouth deliciousness! Their skewers were also great , as was their decadent foie gras tenderloin. Food here was outstanding, probably one of the best tapas I've had so far. The canelones, ham and chicken croquetas, beef tenderloin montaditos were my favorite. The patatas bravas was the only tapa that I found plain but you have to try it at least once while in Spain. Service was a little disappointing. I noticed that Spanish speaking people got served right away while foreigners got a much slower service. This is the reason I did not give them 5 stars. Their service changed the moment they realized Spanish is my first language. Recently I went on my first trip to Barcelona and on the first night ate dinner at this restaurant in the middle of the night. We were walking on a busy street at around 11pm (knowing that everything is open very late in Barcelona) and looking for a restaurant that looked fun. The Ciudad Condal was bursting with people, a lot of locals seemed to be at the bar which is promising. We read the menu and read some reviews and decided we had to go there - we put our name down and got a table around 12am. This sounds late but it was still vibrant with activity up until closing time at 2am! The staff was very friendly, and the food and wine even better. We ordered a meat and cheese sampler which was fantastic, I've never had meat better than I had in Barcelona. Then we ordered the assorted tapas which included shishuto peppers, crawfish, anchovies, ham croquettes, and oysters. All of it was mouth watering! 10/10 recommend. read more

This was our first meal in Barcelona -- two adults and a 13 month old. I was nervous about eating out with a very active and mobile child, but it wasn't bad at all! They seated us right away (there wasn't a line when we got there around 7pm on a Friday, but around 9pm, it was packed and there was a line outside), gave us a high chair that hooks over the regular seat (so cool and different from back in the US), and recommended a few dishes and wines for us. They had this dish with thick fried onions on it ... nothing that I've had before and I wish I took a picture of it. It was so good even when I was stuffed I couldn't stop eating! DELICIOUS!!! My first night in Barcelona was topped off with AMAZING tapas from this gem of a restaurant. Thank you fellow Yelpers for such a wonderful recommendation. We found Ciudad Condal (right off of Passeig de Gracia) and the inside was PACKED with people, with others trying to get inside. Across the street is their outdoor seating area. I asked and there was a 20 minute wait (which was fine). Interestingly enough they had open tables but had us wait the full 20 minutes plus some for a table that they unfolded and added to the patio. The wait was worth it though, the food was INCREDIBLE. We feasted on jamon iberico with pan tomate, patatas bravas, tortilla espanola, calamares and croquettas, and sipped sweet fruity sangria. The restaurant is located on the famous La Ramblas. I know that a lot of people say to not eat on La Ramblas because it's expensive and not that good. I have to disagree with that. The tapas was cheaper than some of the other ones we've visited. The sangria was the best I've had and the I would recommend you try to find a seat at the bar. This is where the action is and the servers there will engage in a conversation with you. Also, I think it's pretty cool seeing them work their asses off and you get to see all of the different dishes that you can choose from. We liked this place so much that we decided to visit it again on our last night in Barcelona. Like I mentioned, the prices are pretty cheap and the food was good. Definitely fresh seafood and you get to try a lot of different items. The only thing that I didn't like is the hostess that was there when we visited the first night. She was so disorganized and did not control the crowd like a good hostess should. The crowd just kept on coming in and she didn't even try to clear out the waiting area. It made it difficult for people eating at the bar because they would brush up against us while we were eating at the bar. read more

We tried this place after trying out its sister restaurant and to be honest it's both the same just different interior and ambiance. This place is a little less modern but has a longer "specials" menu. The paella here is good but sells out quick. Come early because the wait gets insane. We had: Navajas Cabreaos Grilled cuttlefish Tenderloin Iberian ham plate Tropic sandwich. I recommend all the items except the tropic sandwich. It was not as spectacular and very basic with a little too much mayo. The tenderloin is a little expensive as the price is per piece and was a little tough. Everything else we had previously gotten and highly recommend. Same as the other restaurant dessert wasn't that unique. read more

They did give us a 90 minute limit to the seating. The food here overall was very very good (not quite excellent), but the service was pretty atrocious. We ordered an array of platters with a small pitcher of Sangria (above average). Here's what we had: Razor clams -- 3 stars. The grilling, butter and lemon was super tasty, but the clams themselves weren't that fresh. It had a musk, and we later found much better (and much fresher) razor clams. Order them here, but you can get better elsewhere (like La Paradeta). Fried fish fillet -- surprisingly tasty. We ordered the fried anchovies but they were out. They gave us fried fish fillet and the batter was delish, not too greasy and fish light and flaky. Pork flauta -- skip. Meh, average sandwich. Grilled mushrooms -- yum yum yum, buttery and full of flavor. Fried little squids -- yum yum and yum. Big platter of them too. Grilled large squid -- this was 10 euro, and not worth the expense. Although it was tasty, the plate wasn't worth 10 euro as a tapas plate in and of itself. I'd order the smaller squid items since the flavor profile was very similar. Grilled small squid -- actually very good. Not chewy, not dense. Yum. Potatoes Bravas -- perfectly fried. Yum. Our waiter was surly and it was annoying because he hovered around us for a while during our meal, and then disappeared for the rest of our meal (so we waited a while to get our bill from someone else). He was also huffy when we ordered a small Sangria pitcher rather than large (as he'd suggested). I asked him for some recommendations and he was visibly annoyed... Upon the recommendation of the receptionist at the hostel, we decided to come here! Usually, there is a pretty long wait here but I'd say...it's worth it! Although it might seem touristy with all the groups of English-speaking tourists...the food is still very good. It's on par with Cerveceria Catalana and they have similar menus (same owner? this is unknown...). What a great way to start off the day with a solid tapas breakfast at the countertop. Quick caffeine pick up with a Caffe Latte (balanced but robust), followed by grilled cuttlefish ( seasoned lightly with olive oil and lemon for a slight tartness). The next tapas was the baccalao llauna - just cooked right. And the the bravas potatoes deep fried with a melt in your mouth center that is soft, moist, and piping hot. This was our favorite place in Barcelona for tapas-- we had dinner twice here out of the four days we stayed. It was recommended by our tour guide and were extremely impressed. We had to wait 30min-1 hr when coming for dinner around 9-10pm. We had sangria and tried a lot of tapas. Tons of tapas....always busy. This place is a huge tapas bar but mostly the tapas are served to tables even though they have a nice bar just because of how big the place is. It's authentic. You hear and feel the subway every time it passes under. The lighting dims then goes back to full power every minute.
