These guys are from Syria, languages are the same as Iraq. They work and love in el cajon also. My fiancé and I visited this sweets shop about a month and a half ago while looking for a local vendor to supply trays of Arabic sweets for our wedding. We spoke with a gentleman working there who quoted us $24 for a half tray of assorted baklava. He generously offered us samples to try, which we appreciated and insisted on paying for. When we asked about placing a deposit, he assured us that it wasn't necessary and that we could pay over the phone or in person later on. After trying the samples back home in Orange County, we were thrilled with the quality and were happy to choose a small, family-run business over other options. Given the numerous weddings in our community, we thought we could help spread the word and give them more exposure. Today, when my fiancé returned to place the order, she mentioned our previous conversation, only to be informed that the price had now increased to $29 per half tray. The reason? Because we hadn't gotten back to them sooner. Having worked in retail and hospitality for much of my career, I find this practice disappointing. Price changes happen, but there are respectful ways to handle it, especially with clients who showed early interest and intended to support a local business. After months of planning our wedding and dealing with many vendors, this experience sadly fell short of the professionalism and customer service we've encountered elsewhere. read more

These guys definitely don't deserve the 2.5 stars they have now. Hopefully this boosts them up a bit. Came in delivering a package (delivery driver here). Delivered package to customer, presumably owner. The bakery itself looked inviting inside so I had to try some of their stuff. Half the store is dedicated to an assortment of tasty looking Baklava, the other to various cakes/pastries/treats. I began to order some Baklava, pointed out a few pieces and he politely put them in a disposable container. I then brought my wallet out for payment and he waved it away. I insisted on paying (as I did get quite a bit), but he said no problem, it was a gift. Probably $8 worth of free Baklava to try! That generosity definitely touched me. And I wouldn't be writing this if it wasn't good! Not overly sweet like some places and they don't skimp on the pistachios. My friend and I had that "Homer Simpson gurgling" expression after our first few bites haha. I have come back twice now ordering about a pound each visit ($12.99/$16.99 per pound options) No issue with customer service, they were great. Both times they've weighed it in the (18g) container, which is super light 3.9% of a 1 lb, it's negligible, like 1/4 of a bite's worth haha. So outrage definitely not warranted if you look at the numbers and the foil container is secure and reusable! My family members and friends loved the taste, and while it can get pricey if you get a lot, it is definitely worth it. Quality and taste here is better than most other "Baklava Bakeries" I've been to and I've been to some good ones. I will certainly be back, I just take off my work vest before entering because I don't want them offering me free Baklava again haha. I am more than happy to pay and support this small business! Look forward to trying their other items and maybe grabbing a tray or two for special occasions. Didn't realize King of Nablus was closed but drove all the way here and decided to try it. I knew just by looking at the desserts they looked off but still purchased anyway. The kanafe (with orange coloring) was only sold in a set tray (not by the slice) and was more of a pink color with a creepy white filling. Was hoping for the halloumi cheese style kanafeh like king of Nablus had but this was terrible. The one employee was also not wearing a mask (masks are mandatory indoors again this week in San Diego) while all the customers inside were. Thought it was a little gross, but he was very nice. Save your money, do not visit. I was disappointed and will not return. read more

I used to come here when it was Nablus. I tried it this week and wow was I disappointed. It was almost 20.00 for a tray of deserts. Came home and the baklava was so old that it was rubber :( I was so disappointed. I literally threw out everything I bought. I have been going to King of Nablus every time I've visited San Diego for over ten years. The last time was in June, 2019 when they still charged by the sheet size. I didn't realize until later this is a different company now and the price has more than doubled. Baklava is charged by the pound now instead of sheet size. I bought it anyway, but I probably won't be going back. I don't mind raising prices, but this increase is too much. Also, I thought it strange that he weighed the baklava after it was fully packaged and wrapped in plastic, as you can see in the photo. Of course, the container, lid, and plastic will make it more expensive. The quality of the product seemed to be the same as King of Nablus even though he claimed they use better quality ingredients and that's why the cost is much higher now. Yeah, right. read more
