This tour was too expensive for how few busses they have. We waited for more than 30 minutes on multiple occasions. And the "information" on the tour was minimal. It was mostly music. I expected more for €33 per person. We have done hop on hop off in many cities and normally it is a good way to see the city and get you barring. Not this tour. Save your money. For €3.30 take tram 28. It will take you around town in a lovely trolly. read more

I always do these globally, this one was on the map near my hotel which is part of why I chose this hotel as I had a short window to do this, but they are so difficult! 2. Went late the day I arrived just to buy a ticket for the next day and get a lay of the land. There is no office near Praça do Marquês de Pombal, 1250 Lisboa, Portugal unlike Apple suggests. 3. The app doesn't allow you to buy tickets and is not user friendly or updated. What a mess in 2025! 4. I'll update this once I actually do the tour. May get on their competing bus as they seem to have their ish together and they go to more places. 5. Map on app is seriously wrong. Around the Basiccla it shows it in wrong place about 500m from where the stop actually is. We saw the bus, the driver saw us running and pulled away. My heart is broken to share the news of my miserable experience on this bus. I love these bus tours and forced my travel buddy to get a ticket with me. I am full of regret. This made my first day in Lisbon sad. I am still sad. The audio sucks and is not informative at all. More than 2/3 of the time there was very loud music. Then 1/3 of the time there would be quiet talking that could hardly be understood. I'd have to be vigilantly listening for a break in the music to turn the volume up. Or else, I'd have to have to listen to the music at a loud volume that would give me a headache. To accompany my headache, I got sea sick. Multiple times. The shocks in the damn bus must be well past the point of needing replacement. Another aspect of the trip is threat of decapitation. If you are a thrill seeker, this is the bus for you!! The trees hang over the street just enough to smack you right in the face if you are on the second level. My guidance: don't sit in the back row. Just DON'T! The most disorganised and useless hop on hop off I've ever seen. This must be the Ryanair of the city sightseeing. They over sell the buses so you could wait 45 minutes for a bus that was too full to take you on. They rush past the interesting sights so you barely have a chance to see, let alone take a photo. Red bus sightseeing tour. Red line #4. Very disappointing, there is a barrier by the drop off so the driver drove down 30 feet and dropped us off. Trying to get back on the bus the driver would not pick us up in the spot we were dropped off and pointed back to the spot with barriers. We had to wait another 20 minutes for the bus, so the total wait time ended up to be over a half hour. For our bus ride, the first bus at least the audio worked. Kind of. But it was mostly bad music and very little history. Headphones were not great quality. Horrible hop on off bus! Avoid at all costs! This is a poorly run bus service in Lisbon. While some of the drivers are a friendly most are not. The stops are not clearly identified, and while on the bus they do not announce the next stop. You are then forced to listen to the crappy headset and make a guess as to where the heck you are! If you don't push the button indicating you want to stop the bus keeps going. I am especially upset with the fact that while waiting for 1 hour (they're supposed to have a bus every 30 min) at the stop closest to our hotel, the bus driver (who clearly saw us) drove past us despite us waiving frantically at the designated #7 Amoreiras stop. I'm traveling with elderly parents and the 15 min walk downhill on the rough cobblestone sidewalks is just too much for them. The drivers are more interested in socializing with their bus driver friends than providing service to paid customers. Case in point, on the first day we waited 30 min in the hot sun while the bus drivers sat inside a bus laughing and talking story. When another bus arrived one of the bus drivers told us we needed to go to that bus. The infamous Hop on, Hop off bus tour! I saw a brochure for another bus tour with a different company, but when we got to the Marquês de Pombal, a worker from City Sightseeing Portugal approached us with a brochure, and we decided to go with this company because it was cheaper, and I've had fairly pleasant experiences with this company in other cities in the past. Only 18 euros for 2 days, and there were two lines to ride. We did the blue line the first day and got off at stop 6 (Rua do Comércio), as it looked quite lively there by the river. It was nice to walk around and browse the shops. We got yummy gelato from Amorino, and I bought some cool postcards made out of cork to send home to my folks. We accidentally screwed up by jumping on the red line by accident to get out of there and ended up back at the starting point of the bus tour. Oops. So watch out for the sign in the front window, folks! So we had to start the blue line tour all over and rode it to the end. It wasn't that exciting, and I was a bit disappointed at the lack of what Lisbon had to offer. Also, there were some issues with the audio connection, and the sound kept cutting in and out. But at least it was a beautiful sunny day to sit on the upper deck. On the second day, we did the red line tour with the intention of using it as transportation to get bus stop 15 (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos) to go get the famous Portuguese egg tarts at Pastéis de Belém. We made it there okay, but after we got there, it started pouring. Unfortunately, the bus stop wasn't covered, and we got completely soaked while waiting to get back on the bus. When the bus finally came, everyone was sitting at the bottom deck, and it was leaky with lots of drips from the ceiling. Some of the seats were so wet that it was impossible to sit on, so we had to stand in the aisle for a while. Not the greatest experience in a leaky 'ol bus. :/ read more

We enjoyed the HOHO as it is a great way to see the city at a reasonable price. We chose the red and blue route for $20 Euro. later we found out that for $25 Euro you can ride all three routes, red, blue and green. If we could do it over we would choose the 3 routes. The red route makes the best stops with the most famous landmarks as stops. There is also a transfer stop in a large plaza so you can transfer to other routes. The weather was perfect so we sat on top the whole day. They do have multi language channels with headsets but, some do not work or they are hard to hear. Be prepared to spend some time as the traffic can be really bad at times. read more

The busses are inconsistent and do not wait at each location for people to be picked up. Basically, if you're not there RIGHT on the dot and frantically flag down the bus driver, you're likely to get stuck at location waiting for the next bus to come an hour later. It's really a waste of $ -- wish I had done the 434 even though it doesn't take you to as many different places. Probably won't have time to do more than the Castle de Peña and Sintra city center anyways. read more

Although I usually recommend the Hop-on, hop-off by Grayline, we inadvertently got this line thinking it was. When we realized our error, it was too late. This company simply does not monitor their capacity relative to their ticket sales and they don't have enough capacity. We were afraid to get off because we saw so many people unable to get back on at the stops. The one time we did stop, we had to wait almost an hour and we saw numerous other busline buses loading. It was very frustrating. You need to monitor how many cruise ships are in port. The more there are, I suspect the worse. The commentary is mediocre at best. Better to use printed materials more specific to your interests with sufficient depth to interest you. I will never use this company again! read more

Great way to visit the city (if you're lazy ^^ or just if you like the open bus like me). Choose a sunny day and take a scarf because it can be windy. You'll have some explantions with the headphones. The best place to sit is on the top of the bus to have a wonderful view. We did the red tour (historical center), a friend said the blue tour isn't very interesting. I enjoyed a lot the part in Belém. We drop off there and came back in the city center walking. A bit long but if it's sunny and if you really like to walk it's really nice. Very nice staff. We had a ticket until 3 PM but they didn't check the time. They don't really care ! read more

Horrible !!! Unacceptable and horrible! We saw the brochures in hotel lobby and after reviewing it I convinced my hubby to do real touristy thing, take their tours. They offer 3 lines : green for center of Lisbon and red and blue to deferent side of Lisbon . We purchased package with all 3 lines because naively I thought we can actually take one tour on one of the lines and then take just an observational tour on another or both. Stop indicated as #1 for green line is not a first stop. So bus came in almost full and 2 family in front of us almost fought physically to get a place on the bus. Driver told the rest of us wait until next bus , which gonna come ( drum roll!!!) in 40 min! ( which is was no exactly true , apparently it's 45.., red and blue line comes every 30-35 min) . Slightly confused, hoping that we misunderstood his accent , we decided to start walking the tour indicated on the map and be on lookout for next bus ... which never came , at least after stop #5 we gave up on green line and took red line , which took us all the way to the bus stop #1.. fun times .. however, being persistent in our goal we got out and waited like 20 min for green line bus. Finally it arrived , half full , we happily run to the little bus sat down on few seats that were left and..... waited for another 15-20 min .... why ? No one informed us, they just said that actual tour will start after 1st stop. This is not my first time using hop on / hop off type of busses and I never thought I would have so many issues.. we wanted to see some actual stops .. we got off on stop #8 and as you might guess we're never able to get back on the same line.... because stops are not clearly indicated and who would stand 45 min waiting for tour bus without even guarantee that you can get on??? Now about tour itself ... it barely matched actual stops... and content... let me tell you that much , not all of the sentences were even finished. But a lot of local music €25 per person ... for what ? If you still considering , let me remind you again 45 min wait !!!! Awful service, awful communication, the one bus ride we took the 1st day, the sound system was awful, couldn't hear through scratching noises. Day 2, the times we were told were not upheld for any of the three lines, we bought all three lines and waited 60+ minutes (allowing for traffic) at Rua do Comercio starting before 9 and NOT ONE bus came, we walked away at 10:05. This tour was pretty disappointing overall, unfortunately. We've done these 'city sightseeing' buses in other places and mostly had very good experiences. But for some reason this one in Lisbon fell short for the following reasons mainly: 1) Wait times: the buses often took an exceedingly long time to come through the stops. We picked up the bus at the Zoo stop and both days waited 35+ minutes for the bus while other companies came by multiple times. Also, for some reason the city sightseeing company doesn't note their stops numerically, which would help since inherently everyone taking these buses is unfamiliar with the city. 2) Skipping stops: on both the blue and red routes, we were on buses that just completely blew through stops on the route. Never was there an indication that we had to request stops during either trip. 3) Audio issues: there didn't seem to be enough information during these trips. Understand that getting around the city is half the perk of these buses, but isn't also an audio tour? There were really long gaps on a huge part of these tours without any information being passed. For a city as historic as Lisbon, this was disappointing and unacceptable. It also didn't help that the interluding music was very quiet on the headphones (yes, in all languages). 4) Tickets: on our second day on the tour, we realized that at some point our receipt-like bus ticket had been lost. When we learned this, we went to print out a new ticket from our email provided by the company at purchase. When we went to board the bus, the driver very curtly informed us that our voucher had been used. We tried explaining the situation to no avail. We were told 'that's why we tell you not to lose your ticket.' I mean, no kidding dude...did we lose it on purpose? In wintertime when people are wearing large jackets and have a lot of stuff in their pockets it's bound to happen. It is, after all, a thin paper receipt and not an actual ticket. When asked if this was something rare, the driver noted that this happens frequently. Well, that would seem to be a clue. He was probably the rudest person we met in Portugal over a week (and to be fair, really not that rude...a compliment to the Portuguese). All in all, just quite disappointed by the above. The company, we feel, didn't comport themselves well in a competitive market (Lisbon was still buzzing with tourism despite the low season). Our recommendation: take the Yellow Bus instead, that would explain why those buses were packed (and routinely came twice to each stop before the city sightseeing buses). read more

Terrible customer service. I got 4 tickets from my hotel and went to the stop to hop on the bus. They claimed I only paid for 3 tickets when I gave them my voucher. They wanted me to walk all the way back to my hotel (which is 15-18 minutes uphill) and come back down to get the voucher signed off on. The buses came late and some of the buses were out of service. Many times, the driver wouldn't even stop on the designated stops. I asked one of the ticket sales people on the square what time the next bus was coming and she shrugged her shoulder. I waited 40 minutes for the green line bus. When I was told most buses run every 15-20 minutes since it is the peak summer travel season. The driver's driving skills were so horrible, it made my brother sick and he was throwing up the rest of the day. Then we got on the blue line and the driver got into a fight with another passenger. The driver was talking very loudly on the phone and passenger simply asked him to keep it quiet so he could hear the audio tour. Instead of apologizing, he stopped the bus in the middle of the road and just got off and went across the street. Then he came back and was obnoxious to everyone else for the remainder of the ride. He was talking loudly, driving rough, and being rude. Stay away from this service. They are also a cash only business which is very suspicious. Compared to City Sightseeing tours that I've taken in different cities this one is extremely poor. The tour lasts over an hour and my girlfriend and I counted only ten instances where the commentary told us any information about where we were. There's no air-conditioning at all on the bus, in thirty plus degree heat it was a nightmare. I can't think of any positives about this tour other than perhaps the price, which was cheap enough. We only stayed on it for one of the two tours so we definitely didn't get our moneys worth. Not recommended. read more

There are two lines for this sightseeing company, red line and blue line. The red line buses were supposed to pick up every 30 minutes as we were told and stated in the brochure. We had to wait with other group of travelers for an hour for the bus to arrive. It was not a one off incident because it happened to us at multiple pick-up locations. We wasted 2-3 hours waiting for the bus. I suggest other sightseeing bus companies as we were considering switching it but already purchased two-day passes. read more

A rip off. We have used the same buses in other cities and have been very happy, but here in Lisbon it was a very different experience. You can skip it while in Lisbon. Here is my list of grievances: 1) I should have been suspicious when you are forced to buy 2 days and both lines, 2) Can I pay with credit card? NO, 3) No air conditioning in the lower level, the bus was a furnace, 4) Bus driver would step out at stops to have a cigarette, while we were toasting under the sun, 5) The audio was useless: 5a) the voice was so low it couldn't be heard (while the music was very loud), 5b) Unlike other cities the commentary was super scarce and limited to naming very few places, no story, no nothing, 6) Besides the terrible service the truth is that you don't need the bus to go to the 2 or 3 areas in the city that you can't reach walking - you may be better just going there by taxi. read more

After using these buses in many cities, we decided to buy a ticket to take a bus tour of Lisbon and I must say I was very disappointed. The commentary is a waste of time, mostly just dreary music and about half of the systems didn't work. The bus didn't really follow the assigned stops and it would randomly stop at various locations. At times the bus just loops around in the same area over and over and you end up seeing the same structure many times. Nice enough sitting on the bus to see around but there must be better and cheaper ways to do it. I am usually a big fan of hop on hop off buses but definitely not this one. read more
