The station was formerly known as Estação Central (Central Station) and the name still appears in its façade. Opened in 1891 to designs by Portuguese architect José Luís Monteiro, the main facade at street level is a wonderful example of Neo-Manueline architecture, named after the heavily decorative hybrid classical-gothic architecture unique to Portugal. It's sinuous curves and entrance arches are reminiscent of Art Nouveau. Once inside, a modern escalator takes you up to the spacious train shed. There's a ticket office, ticket machines and cafe. Trains to Sintra leave every 20 minutes on weekdays (every 10 minutes at rush hour), and half hourly at weekends.

I had walked inside to look at the gift shop on the left and saw the Starbucks on the right, but never saw any indication of a train station there, either. Once I KNEW that it was the train station, I looked harder for a sign, and it was up the elevator from the front of the building. Tickets are at the top of the double elevator and should have been easy to get, but I had to try 3 different machines to get it to work. The machine will encourage you to get a round trip, and know that the round trip ticket is all on one ticket. You won't be issued 2 tickets. The ticket is needed to get in and out of the stations, so make sure to hang onto it until after you've left your final destination. The place is super clean...one of the cleanest train stations I have been in. I wanted this review out here in case someone needed it. Since we have been to Lisbon, Portugal many times, we decided to take a local train to Cascais. What a beautiful city. Ambiance - Local train, not good or bad. Not busy. Not clean, but also not dirty. On time. Service - Had a hard time trying to buy our tickets as the machines were NOT in English. And struggled using Google Translate while underground. The people around us were too busy to help us. Finally, we went to the cafe to ask for help. The owner sold us a one day pass rather than a round trip pass... Since we had the more expensive pass (double the price rather than round trip tickets) we decided to make an extra stop at Belem to get our $$ worth. Then when we got back, we found these two tourist girls also struggling to buy their train tickets, so we gave them ours as we were trying to pay it forward. Glad the tickets can get more use. I do not think they were trying to rip us off, but there was a language barrier. We appreciated the help. Price - Bought a one day pass. I think we paid approximately $8 US for each ticket. On the green line, the next station is Baixa-Chiado towards Telheiras. The metro station is completely handicapped accessible with lifts and escalators between the street level and platform level. There are automated ticket vending machines for the metro. I was here to catch the ferry, which of course is at street level. Separate vending machines for ferry tickets and a clear display indicating not only how long until the next ferry departs, the gate (there are three gates) and what percentage full. Purchasing the ferry ticket was easy (only €1.80 including the €0.50 for a new Viagem card) and quick. I was able to buy my ticket at 16:35, scan it and still board the 16:40 ferry to Cacilhas. The tram ride from one end to the other takes 2:40 and climbs one of the steepest slopes in the city. It opened for passengers in 1892. What's interesting about this ride is that it is not an independent track. The path where the train rides is also open to vehicles and pedestrians. It is considered one of the most picturesque streets in Lisbon, if not Europe. The Elevador is operated by the same Carris that runs the subway, trams and buses. If you've bought a 24 hour pass, you can scan your Viagem card and it's included. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a ticket from the driver onboard - he takes cash. If you do plan to go to the market, I'd recommend combining the two in one trip since the elevador is not that close to the city centre. The yellow funicular is the most popular one in Lisbon because of the steep hills. Unfortunately, it wasn't running when we came by on a Saturday at around 2:30. Maybe it only runs on weekdays? Regardless of that fact, it's a cool place for some photo ops. This is where you see all of those Lisbon shots on Instagram. We didn't walk up the entire hill but it was a sight to see. We didn't have time to come back another day to see if the tram was running since our time in Lisbon was limited, but if this is a must-see for you, just be sure to budget enough time on your trip. You never know when it may be randomly closed.

I deeply appreciate a Metro station that goes directly to the airport. The station's entrance is…read moreliterally right outside the airport entrance. Within 20-25 minutes, you're in central Lisbon. If you have a short layover, I recommend taking the Red Line three stops to Oriente to walk along the water and see unique public art. The Metro station itself is easy to navigate as it's at the end of the line. There's no way to get on going the wrong direction. There's interesting character art along the walls. There's a little shop and vending machines with drink and snacks.

Metro Aeroporto is the terminus of the Red Line on the Lisbon Metro. The station opened in 2012, as…read morepart of the Metro extension to the Airport. From here, you can get into the city centre in around 20 minutes. The Lisbon Metro seemed straightforward to navigate between lines and in stations. Ticket machines have an English language option. The pricing is reasonable, costing €1.80 for unlimited use of the metro within one hour, however, you must also purchase the "navegante card" for 50 cents, this can be re-loaded, but with it only being a tiny bit of paper, it is easy to damage or misplace, and the cost does add up if you keep leaving it behind. There are lots of ticket machines at this particular station, and there is a sign right behind them explaining the tickets in English, there weren't too many staff members offering assistance, I only noticed one employee who seemed very busy dealing with tourists. The main entrance/exit to the station is right outside Humberto Delgado Airport, so it's easy to access the Terminal from here, it is also a short walk to the shuttle bus if you're unlucky enough to be travelling from Terminal 2. I didn't notice any elevators inside the station, but the escalators are easy to find and follow up to the top, and shouldn't be too difficult to manage with a suitcase. There is a lot of empty space in the station, in one of the halls, there was a stand selling cheap tacky souvenirs, which would probably only be useful as a last-minute gift if you're heading to the Airport and have forgotten to get something for someone back home. The art around the station was amusing, with caricatures all over the walls. The Red Line overall is one of the best on the network for station art, so be sure to keep an eye out on your journey. 3* - Decent metro station serving the Airport, no worse or better than any other Airport but certainly useful.

In fact, I don't think we would have felt we had really "seen and experienced" Lisbon had we not been on this tour. You can do 1, 2, 3 or 4 hour tour. If you have the time, I would recommend the 4 hour tour so you can see everything, and stop anywhere you want. We did the 2-hour tour, and he told us about all the sights, the history, some interesting facts, answered any questions we had, and stopped several times for us to get out and take some photos. Highlights were the 2 viewpoints which were stunning, seeing all the neighborhoods, and stopping at the world's oldest bookstore and getting a few books which they stamped with their stamp "purchased a the world's oldest bookstore." He dropped us off at Java Rooftop at the riverfront where we had an amazing lunch. Totally and absolutely recommend this tuk tuk tour, and ask for Vini!

That's if you don't mind cobblestones under your feet since it's on the edge of the historic downtown area. Otherwise the subway and public bus are within a reasonable stroll on Av. da Liberdade, so you have an option to minimize sore feet and blisters. The lobby atrium is cavernous with a prominent staircase leading to private event spaces (Photo 5). There was plenty of seating for semi-private conversations. Rooms are accessible by two smallish elevators. Jamie W and I settled in for a three-night stay here in a spacious Deluxe Twin room (Photo 9). It cost us $294 per night, a fair shoulder season rate for a four-star accommodation. We got the complimentary breakfast buffet as part of our rate. They serve it in their signature restaurant, Open Brasserie Mediterrânica, which holds a rare gluten-free certification. It was a big spread every morning, and the more desirable food items were frequently depleted. Lobby is small but cute with some seating - there is a mirror that makes it look much bigger. Friendly staff. Was able to check in a couple of hours early which helped in our case as we were moving from another hotel so this made it seamless. We had a room with a small balcony looking out on the street with trees (202). Room interior looks new with carpeted floor. Not big with firm queen bed also a couch, and one desk chair. Not a lot of place to stow luggage (no luggage rack). Electric tea kettle with coffee/tea and creamer, fridge and safe. Aircon is good and quiet. Bathroom had black and white tiles all look pretty new. Firm bed, 4 pillows and good quality bedding. Good continental breakfast - fluffy croissants and there is choice of scrambled or hard boiled eggs. Dining room in basement level is spacious so never felt crowded. They also have a drinking water dispenser in the lobby which is a nice feature. Convenient location - Spar supermarket just two blocks away as well as metro and main Ave Liberdade. A few restaurants in between.
