Feel compelled to leave a review because this is how people select moving companies, and if you want to move, DO NOT choose Olga's. 2 hours before our move window, Olga's called to tell us that their "truck was broken." They were working to secure another truck that maybe they could get that day, maybe not. After waiting several hours, we called to ask if we could just move 72 hours later instead. "Sure!" They said. We'll definitely have a truck by then. No. They didn't. Again they failed to find a truck in all of New York City to fulfill their end of the contract to move us (they claim they'll only work with one rental company...why? Who knows. Point is, they won't lift another finger to help you move. If you believe the truck story to begin with). If we weren't lucky enough to have overlapping leases, we'd be totally screwed. I shudder at the thought of single-day moves in years past when I would be helpless to vacate my apartment because Olga's City Movers will not take the simple steps to solve problems of their own design. I am 32 and have moved over 10 times in my life. This was BY FAR the worst experience I have ever had. The movers made me feel incredibly uncomfortable and I would not recommend the service to my worst enemy. Here are the reasons: (1) The whole time we were moving the movers were incredibly unprofessional. They were constantly complaining about the stairs in the apartment (we told them beforehand it was a walk up) and made me feel like they were doing me a favor when I was paying them. (2) The damaged my $2,500 West Elm sofa beyond repair by placing the cushions directly on the dirty moving truck floor. They had black gunk all over them and I had to get a new couch. (3) The lost items including a $1,000 rug from Anthropologie (4) At the end of the service when I complained about how awful it was they called me a bitch and said I should complain to the owner of the moving company -- they weren't getting paid enough to deal with me. read more

The only reason why i'm not giving them 5 starts is because they were not very professional when they were done with the move. In the contract Olga sent me, It says "There is a standard known in NYC, as 10-15% for each mover" so from my total of $400 I gave each guy 15% and once they counted the tip, they were very unhappy. So I gave them each $20 more they were KIND OF okay with it and left still not very happy. So that was $240 just IN TIPS - almost 50% of the total - and the guys were still not very appreciative. read more

Huge Mistake!!! Hired City Moving Group who required a one third down payment (shoulda been my first clue they wouldn't Do). Crew of four showed up and instantly appeared very unhappy. Like, "You expect us to move all that?" I find out they're not employees of the company. They told me in broken Spanglish that the boxes were not on their list and their truck was too small. I only say that to emphasize we had trouble communicating about everything except dollars and cents. Then the head guy, pulled out a price list, made a mental count, then told me the job would cost around $15K (original estimate was $6700). I suggested he take a hike! I called City Moving and spoke with a company rep who acted like it's my fault that their QA department never called me to confirm the list of stuff to move. I'd sent them a video and done a verbal walk thru with their manager. He explained that I can't get my deposit returned because the crew came out to my house, even if they wouldn't move anything without me paying them more! My home is sold. Olga was AMAZING. We had the best experience. I forgot to write a review a year ago when we moved... and now that we're moving again, we're coming back to Olga to be our movers, so writing my review now. PROS: -They were on time. Totally punctual. -They were so fast & efficient. They were awesome. -I liked that they wrapped up all my big items for us. 1)Because = less work for me, and 2)They wanted to do it that way so that they make sure they've packed things correctly & don't damage them. This was for big items like our entertainment center & big screen TV. -They were SO AFFORDABLE! We thought we'd have to spend a couple hundred more, so that's what we budgeted for. City Moving out of Hawaii and California Has moved us from Sacramento on November 12 and as of today Jan. 2, as far as we know, our household goods are still in Oakland in a warehouse. Still no firm date as to when it will be shipped. City Moving made arrangements to have our vehicles shipped and it took only two weeks. Pros: -Very honest and transparent with their fees -They came on time - even a little bit early -The 3 guys were very fast and polite, treated me well -They were efficient, finished moving my studio in about 20 minutes. The entire move within Manhattan took only 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cons: -NONE! BOOK with confidence. I heard other movers charge by the number of flights they have to go up and down. Not Olga Movers. All my communication with Olga was through email - They were very responsive, gave full details, and were flexible on timing. Three guys showed up (early) and got to work. We moved from Queens to Queens , wasn't a big of the distance but it doesn't matter. I found this company on Yelp. Company charges 80 dollars per hour and it was great for us. Guys are fast, focused, careful and using a sense of logic. Can disassemble and assembly furniture quick. You ll enjoy speaking to Olga who organizes the move for you, she is the sweetest person, very patient, understanding, easy to communicate with and Olga picks up the phone 7 days a week!!! They have an unbeatable price, which was a BIG reason why I chose to go with them. Plus, a friend used them before me and gave a glowing recommendation. Many Pros: - They were punctual. Scheduled time was 7 AM. Plus, they mentioned that they could be there within plus or minus 30 minutes. So my expectations were managed well. - They emailed me exactly what I needed to know regarding inventory, what they would provide during the move, how parking works should we run into any issues. - Price was the lowest by far. At first, I got concerned when they said that a 2-bedroom apartment usually takes 5-6 hours. (Multiply that by $80 and it's quite a bit.) However, they were quick. My friend who referred them to me said that they were VERY fast. Her move took 3 hours. Mine took 3 hours. I think that's fast! One Con: - I wished that they managed us better about their tip expectations. My roommate and I thought it was fine to tip 20% of the total. But they wanted at least 15% for each person. Their argument was that they did about 5-6 hours of work in half the time and the tip we were giving was very little. It was awkward, but we were fine paying that. (Still much cheaper than the competitors before tip.) And we would have been fine paying it if they would have just let us know from the start that they like for their movers to be tipped each since they know that they're a very affordable moving company. My cousin introduced me to Olga City Moving when she used them once, and I have used them twice since. The four stars is an average --- when my cousin used them, her move took an hour, they charged her for two (their minimum, which was fair) and they actually asked her for more of a tip, which was a little wacky. The first time I used them, my move went without any issues, and it was FANTASTIC. The second time I used them, one of the three guys showed up a little late, and when I unwrapped my furniture, I found a few chips on the corners of two pieces. In all fairness, I had signed off on everything being fine before I unwrapped and inspected everything, so I won't be calling them to complain or anything. Lesson learned. So if I had some issues, why am I giving them four stars? 1 - Their pricing is legit. No hidden fees. 2 - They work quickly and don't dawdle. My friends have used movers in the past and told me horror stories of hourly rate movers that basically take their sweet time to fill up space. 3 - They still beat all of the estimates I received from other moving companies. So overall, Olga City Moving is a win, and I would use them again, but nobody is perfect. read more

We hired a crew of 3 for about 2.5 hours of moving from Greenwich Village to our new place in East Village.. The company gives you a rough window for the movers to arrive, and ours showed up about 30 min ahead of schedule, which was great! The crew was polite, efficient and seemed to have good attention to detail. We had no issues with any items breaking and our furniture was well protected. TERRIBLE experience! We were promised a delivery date. Waited around delivery date day, sitting on a blow up mattress for 7 hours and they never showed up. Called city moving no short of 20 times. No one could help us. We would have not minded if we got a call to cancel but we had zero communication given to us that day. ZERO! Also, everyday they say they are going to call us back with more details and they have not done so once, i have to call them back every single time. When they finally delivered all the boxes were in terrible condition. We opened boxes of stuff that was not ours. They also lost our 400 dollar TV stand. City Moving did an excellent job with my move. I only moved about 10 minutes away but they did the full move in 90 minutes, including wrapping my TV and folding my bed frame. You do get what you pay for with them -- they're cheaper than most other movers, so they're a little bit less "professional" (it's just a few Russian guys and a truck) but for what you're paying they honestly are much better than I expected. And yes, you will need to tip them EACH 15-20% (they asked me to give some more, but I was OK with it since the move was just $160, unheard of in NYC). I ended up tipping $100, so the full move was still over $100 less than what I was quoted by other movers. Don't be cheap with tips like these other people and you'll have a good experience. read more

I cannot strongly enough recommend against using this company. Problems included: 1) The movers were pretty slow and weren't especially good at figuring out how to load large numbers of things into a small space, which one would assume was a prerequisite for the job. 2) Speaking of slow, the movers managed to get "lost" on the way to the storage unit in New Jersey. It should have been a 15 minute drive. It took them close to an hour. 3) Why wasn't I in the truck to help guide them to the storage unit, you might ask? Great question. The company claims it wasn't made clear ahead of time that my roommate and I planned to accompany our belongings to our storage units. How on earth is this something that needs to be spelled out? I find it extremely hard to believe there are people that put their stuff in a truck and say, "Sure, complete strangers, please drive away with my stuff and I guess you'll probably bring it to this address and unload it exactly how I want it, even though I won't be there to make sure!" (Not to mention that we would need to be present to unlock and relock our storage units and sign relevant paperwork.) Anyway, there was no room for us in the truck, so we were told to take a cab. We ended up having to rent a carshare at the last-minute, on our own dime. So there was an added expense, plus we had to trust strangers to drive away with everything we owned and just hope they'd show up where we told them to. 4) The fees included $188 for crossing state borders. When we asked for an explanation, we were simply told that New Jersey is far away. I understand the need for an additional fee for tolls, but $188 seems far in excess of the ~$60 in tolls it costs a truck to go there. 5) We were asked to pay in cash, and no one supplied me with a receipt -- I was told to take a photo on my phone of the receipt that the movers kept -- which leads me to believe this business is probably not very legitimate. Seriously, don't do it. It sounds like some other people on here had great experiences with this company, but you might also end up with an experience like mine: awful, stressful, and overpriced. read more

I was impressed when I got the quote from Olga. I can't believe that the hourly rate was set at $80, after 5 years from my previous move. I think that you need to be considered when tipping for this type of work. For NYC standards, anything under $1000 is cheap, otherwise you should do it yourself. I just moved from a 5 floor walk-up to a 3rd floor with elevator. I was impressed also with the guys. They were respectful and ensuring they were following my directions. One of the most disorganized, rude, and inefficient companies I have ever come into contact with. 1. I was quoted $4,489.20, once my belongings got packed (by an entirely different company, which also happened to be their competitor, Hercules Moving), I was given the price tag of $7,138.00. This was after I updated my packing list to detail everything I owned. Do not believe their quotes! 2. They showed up 2 days before their given "pick up window" with no warning nor apology. 3. They quoted 4-7 weeks for delivery from New York to Hawaii. It is now been 8 weeks with still no response on when my stuff arrives. My stuff was waiting at the LA port for over 5 weeks, because they supposedly needed me to fill out a form to load it on the Matson Ship. This was never communicated to me by either my account manager (still have no idea what this person does) or the dispatch team. Instead I was berated by their staff explaining that it was my fault, not theirs. 4. The company is so large that the account manager has no idea how the rest of the company works or how to get ahold of them. Their phone numbers kept changing, with their explanation that they were changing phone companies. Sadly, when they have my things hostage- I would want to know how to contact them. Understand that City Moving is only a booking company, so they make promises that they often do not have the ability to make. This is very frustrating. 5. No customer service. They are rude, often only giving the phrase "that is not how things are done around here" rather than understanding I am a high paying customer that should be treated as such. When asked what I should do, my account manager said there is nothing he nor the company can do, but would recommend writing poor recommendations- that is the only way they will hear you. Incredibly fast and by far the best quote we received! They are very upfront about any costs: $80/hour for three movers, no tricks or additions based on amount of stairs, etc. If you need a COI, you are responsible for that cost (~$100). And yes, they ask that you tip each mover 15%-20%, but as long as you are prepared for that you should have no problem. And even with a 20% tip for all three movers and buying our own materials, the quote was several hundred dollars under any other moving company. First of all, Olga came recommended to me by two friends who said I was an idiot if I hired any other company. Unfortunately, Olga wasn't available for the timing we needed. When I let them know that it wouldn't work, they rearranged their schedule to work with us, which I am so grateful for! My husband and I moved out of a one-bedroom with home office in a fourth floor walk-up in Brooklyn to a two-bedroom in Manhattan (elevator building) and the three Olga movers moved us in just over 6 hours which felt incredibly fast for how much stuff we had. They were very nice, and mainly kept to themselves and focused on the job at hand. Only negative was that one of our bowls broke in the move. However, even though Olga's insurance policy meant that they couldn't fully reimburse us, they graciously did reimburse us for part of the bowl. Advice if you are hiring Olga: -Make sure you read their prep email so you aren't surprised by any charges - they are very honest and upfront. -Make sure you are 100% packed and ready to go, and just be sure you pack your items securely and that they are well-padded. The movers were definitely all about business and not overly concerned about boxes marked fragile. -Be prepared to watch their truck while they move - you or someone else will need to watch the truck (you can sit in it) so that you don't get parking tickets and nothing gets taken. -Be prepared for them to arrive up to an hour early - this was amazing and kept us moving, but just be sure you are ready! -Be prepared to pay entirely in cash. One guy gave me the finger as they were leaving and they said "cheap motherfuckers!!" The total was $240..$80 is 33%.. and I'm a cheap mf***??? I had to move again (UGH) and this move was from Queens to Manhattan. I called several other companies, and Olga offered me the best quote! So I went with Olga again, since I had such a fantastic experience last time. I wasn't disappointed. A crew of three came early, but Olga gave me notice and kept communicating with me so I could be ready for them. Total moving time was THREE HOURS!!! Can you believe it? From Queens to Manhattan in weekday traffic... amazing. The crew was friendly and polite and took excellent care of my belongings. What pros! I moved a bunch of furniture and a ton of boxes from Washington Heights to eastern Crown Heights, and the *entire* move took less than 3.5 hours. I ended up saving hundreds of dollars from what FlatRate had quoted me, even at a discount. I had to move again a few months later, and they got it done in less than 3 hours. What pros. I would NOT use this company again. They took entirely too long to get from our old apartment to our new apartment after they loaded up the truck which caused them to run over 4 hours. I tipped them each 15% but the main guy was still not happy with that amount causing me to over-tip. His excuse was that our new apartment was a walk-up. They charged us for 4.5 hours when it was only a few minutes over 4. My main issue, however, was that they did not reassemble anything! We had to reassemble the bed and couch ourselves which is completely inexcusable. Pretty unprofessional guys and I got the impression that they moved slower to make more money. Before my big move from Manhattan to Brooklyn this past weekend, my father let me in on a little secret: 'moving sucks'. Not so with Olga movers! These guys are the best. They showed up on time for my 9am move from Manhattan to Brooklyn and got straight to work loading up the van. For the first part of the move, they had the help of an elevator. But the new place in Brooklyn is a fourth floor walk up (ouch) and the staircase is very narrow. They were total pros! Maneuvering my larger, vintage pieces up without ANY damage-how they managed to fit my couch in through the front door, I will never know. Olga is a pleasure to work with-she was incredibly accommodating and worked with me to find a time that was convenient. I noticed some of the other comments took issue with the tipping system. Olga lays it all out in the email, so there shouldn't be any surprises. And I found it totally in line with what other moving companies expect, and VERY fair for the quality of work these guys do. We had a great experience with Olga and her movers. We would definitely use them again and recommend them to others. The only real negative was that it seemed to be a very small company that I never met in person before the move and which was not available at set hours by phone. Our situation: We were moving within Manhattan from a very small one bedroom sixth floor walkup (but very full of the stuff of two adults and an elementary schooler) to an elevator building. We were willing to pack our things ourselves. We had one very large piece of furniture that needed to be disassembled and reassembled. Our options: We got firm quotes from Oz Moving and Flat Rate Moving after they came to our apartment and surveyed our things. They quoted us somewhere around $1200-1300, said they would send 4-5 movers, and thought it would take seven hours to move. We also got a per-hour quote from Seaman's Moving of $145/hour. A friend had previously recommended Olga's to us, so we also called and got a quote from them. Booking Olga: As far as I can tell, the phone number listed may well be Olga's cell phone or home phone. I think she answered in another language once or twice. When she did answer, she usually asked me to e-mail her and then replied by e-mail. This minor difficulty in contacting her was the only thing that I didn't like about Olga's, mostly because I hadn't used them before and worried that this signaled they weren't legit. However, I asked for a quote on Saturday at 10am, had a reply e-mail with a quote by 3pm, and moved nine days later. One thing that took a few more days was figuring out the details of the certificate of insurance that my destination apartment required; Olga asked me to pay just over $100 by Paypal in order to secure this certificate. Service: Three men arrived 15 minutes early on the day of our move. One spoke mainly Tajik and so didn't speak to us much, but all were very professional, friendly, and tolerant of things such as us still packing our final boxes as they were moving or us leaving home to take our daughter to school. They worked very quickly, such that while we thought we'd have time to pack a few boxes, the apartment was nearly empty before we knew it. I chose to do most of the disassembly of our biggest furniture item to save time, but they helped me finish doing so and disassembled our other large furniture items quickly. As far as I could tell, they didn't take any breaks during the approx. 4 hours it took to load the truck. I saw them with a pizza box when they arrived at our new apartment, but I guess they must have eaten on the way, because boxes began arriving in our apartment almost immediately after we came up and unlocked it. One picture frame cracked during the move, though this was one item that we didn't pack ourselves and which they wrapped carefully in blankets, but told us in advance that they didn't have proper padding for. Our many other picture frames and all of our other items arrived in perfect condition. Final cost: They completed the move in just under seven hours at a total cost of $560 ($80/hour) plus tip. This is less than half the prices quoted by the companies that surveyed our items in person, and just over half the hourly rate of the third company. I hope not to move again for many years, but as I said at the top, we'd gladly use Olga's again if we do. read more

A good friend of mine used Olga Movers a few weeks before, and he recommended them to us. The movers were literally INCREDIBLE. I highly, highly recommend this company to anyone looking to move apartments quickly and efficiently. The movers showed up on time, got everything out of our walk-up in under an hour (we have a lot of stuff), and were at our new place in no time flat. They were very polite and professional, and they were very gentle with all of our fragile items. They also provided padding and tape for the TV/dresser. The rate was the best I've seen ($80 an hour), and I added in a 20% tip for each mover (3 men). A friend recommended them I really wanted to like Olga City Movers. They came in earlier, they moved my stuff in a breeze taking a lot of care with what they were doing. They are professionals and do a good and fast job moving. I would use them again if it wasn't for the tip problem. Why the 3 stars? If you look at their site, they say they don't charge extra for walkups. And they don't, but their movers will be extra pushy for more tip because it's a walkup. After giving them 40% tip I was told it was not enough tip. If I had the money to use other movers I would. The fact that my moving was 40% more expensive because I lived in a walkup makes no sense to me, especially when they specify they dont charge extra for it. Tip is always complimentary, and it's a must when it comes to moving, I get it. But don't be shady or pushy about it. That said, if your moving locations have elevators, that should be no problem I guess. And to Olga, please pay your movers better so that your clients don't have to face this situation. read more

Olga Movers literally saved my life when I had to move TWICE in 2 months. The first move was from Sunset Park to Park Slope. The 3 guys who moved me were simply lovely-calm, courteous, and very careful with all my belongings. Two months later I had to move again, because my new Craigslist roommate turned out to be severely allergic to my cat. I found a great cat-friendly, 1 bedroom apartment around August 30th and needed to move quickly to secure it, so I called Olga. She told me everything was booked (clearly it was 2 days before Sept 1st) and I explained that I really needed to move due to the circumstances with my cat and roommate. She said she felt sympathetic for me, because she has a cat too and remembered that another client was thinking about switching her move date. Olga told me she'd call her and explain my situation. Ten minutes later, Olga called me back and said the client also had a cat and agreed to switch her move date with me! So we scheduled the move for the next evening. I am so grateful to Olga for helping me in this way. She is a human being who truly cares about the people she's working with. The guys came the next night and again I had another seamless move! I work at a public high school in Brooklyn and literally every single teacher on staff has used Olga movers. They are THE BEST. The prices are beyond reasonable and they're simply good people. I just used them yesterday and despite the rain and it being a multi stop move from UES to NJ and then a storage unit, they were so quick and efficient. I had boxes and furniture and there was no issue at all. They wrapped my bed and futon and was careful. Thanks Olga for another easy move! read more
