Love shopping here when I need to ask questions. The staff here are always offering to help and are very helpful when you do ask. They frequently walk to over to the right aisle or at least walk you part way in the right direction. They may not have as much selection as the bigger name mainland chain home improvement/gardening stores but their service far surpasses the others. Their prices are a like higher, but they are smaller, and they are local. Went during their bucket sale where everything that could fit in their yellow bucket (which you had to purchase) was 20% off. It's a sturdy bucket and quite a bit could fit. I also had to but a large garden pot that was bigger than their yellow bucket But fortunately it was 15% off so it was still a decent deal. I've had keys made here and they always say to bring it back if it doesn't work, but I have never had to bring it back. Shop local when you can! read more

I always go to the local City Mill for my general construction needs. Their staff is great. And the paint department is solid.

I had to call ahead to check that they do propane refills. I feel it is very rare to get someone to answer the phone nowadays and I was able to get thru to a real live human! There was a sign that says propane refills here by a pillar but no instructions of what to do or who to call. I was able to ask the woman working in the key center and she said usually you stop by the checkout and they will call someone for you to have it done. She was able to help us out and we were surprised at time to checkout we showed up on the day they were doing $1 off propane refills! What are the odds! read more

Rude staff, horrible return policy refuses to return unopened items using a picture of the receipt taken or to look up on the credit card used to confirm. This is by design, I always try to support local, but it's games like this that I sometimes regret it. Service is horrible! Called to get a product check. Cashier kept transferring me to lumber. Each time (4x) I called it hangs up on me. Fifth try, I asked the same cashier if she can just go do a product check since it keeps getting disconnected she said no because she's in the front so I decided to speak to a manager. Manager jumps on the line says hi. How can I help you without addressing who she is. I ask if she is from lumber manager she said she's the manager. I explained to her what was going on with the transfer out to lumber and all she did was back them up saying that they did answer. You didn't answer back when they spoke to you. Wasn't gonna argue. Maybe they don't know how to answer the line who knows. Anyways, she tells me how can I help you? I am telling her what I needed to get product check on and I'm waiting to hear what she responds with but all I can hear is her yelling at the workers saying they're trying to call you but you're not answering thank you very much, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Basically having a conversation with others, but yet asked me what I needed. Waited and waited. She goes oh go ahead and let me know what u need. The background is so loud and I am here repeating myself, and she can't hear me. I explained to her you can't hear me. Your background is so loud and you keep repeating the wrong things that I'm telling you. She says I think it's the phone. You can't always find what you need although you would expect to at large home improvement stores like HOME DEPOT AND LOWES but City Mill usually fills in those gaps or at least they have what you need without fighting for parking and foot traffic. Love browsing here when waiting for repairs to be completed across the street at Elson's. The employees are very friendly and will ask if you need assistance. Lol even the fellow shoppers are friendly & chat with you about great products they have found here! I always leave with some kind of gadget or plant that catches my eye. My trip to City Mill in Aiea two days on different days this past week. My first trip was to get some curtain hooks in which they had it in stock. My second trip I need more curtain hooks. At the same time I went to the aisle to look at cement but I had no idea what to get. I was about to leave when I saw a staff standing inside of the paint counter. She kindly assisted me walked to the aisle explaining on what I should get. May I say her warmth and smile her knowledge of the products I was able to get the item she suggested for my first start of DIY. I sincerely hope City Mill acknowledges her excellent care for her clientele especially a Kupuna who at times have no idea what to get. Her name is Shantel (I hope I got the spelling right). She was understanding and patient with me. As a female Kupuna going into a hardware store I feel at times intimidated not knowing on how to describe on what I should get. Wanted to give a shout out to "Tony" who went above and beyond to help my husband get a 2x4, which he found out, there isn't any 2x4s... Industry standard is 2x 3.5! WHAT, i don't think they should call it 2x4s, if the industry doesn't make it. Tony made us a 2x4, because that was the size we needed to mount our A/C into the wall. My husband and son came here to change the deadbolt tumblers and cut keys the middle of last year. The person that helped was MELVIN. He's a very rude man...don't think he enjoys his job because of his horrible attitude. At first, they thought he was having a bad day for his unacceptable service but today, we found out we were wrong! This is his normal service. Here it is, 6 months later. We came here to fill our propane tank so my husband decided to have a key cut. Low and behold, it's MELVIN behind the counter. My husband passes him a key, Melvin takes it and cuts the key. While this was happening, I was outside looking at the plants. I came just in time to see MELVIN toss our key across the counter to my husband! The first thing that came to mind was "How rude!" He then put the bag with the cut key on the counter. No "Thank you", "Have a nice day" or even a smile???? What the heck?! I asked my husband if anything happened? He told me from the time he gave MELVIN the key to the finished cut key, not one word came out of his mouth! He also said that he was the same guy that helped him and my son 6 months ago and had the same attitude. We informed some of the workers about him...they told us that there were other complaints about him. I'm hoping the owner speaks to him because his attitude is bad for their business. I will still patronize this local company on other merchandise because we experienced pleasant customer service from other workers but WE WILL NEVER CUT KEYS FROM HERE AGAIN! read more

Minus two stars for just me having to drive back to redo keys that did not fit the first time. Should have known the guy made 2 keys too quickly and they did not match my original key to begin with. I was worried if the same guy would be cutting the next day and thank goodness it wasn't. Jordan did not look too confident at first since the 2 keys did not work yesterday but he carefully cut two new keys and when I got home they worked just right! Hubby and I came here for an emergency. Our toilet in the house is leaking so hubby spent all morning trying to fix it today. He ended up cracking the toilet so we bought a new one here. A whole new toilet for $109! Not bad. It's a 5 minute drive from the house. I'm glad we got one. There were three left. Now only two! Hubby paid it and we left. We even got help from the old man that was cracking jokes about the toilet. I laughed. I liked that he was funny and helpful when he helped hubby load it in my car. We come here often. Came here to get TRR [Toilet Ring Remover] recommended by my son...the larger size was 19.99, 64 oz. the smaller size is 12.99. then I found an old paint brush, put some TRR in a plastic cup and brushed it on the ring. AMAZING STUFF. I forgot to take the before picture but this is the after. So to get the water level down below the ring I got bucket filled it with water then poured it in the bowl quickly, it flushed most of the water out so I could get a napkin to wipe it dry first. With in two minutes the calcium ring started to dissolve. all I can say is Wow! read more

Ms. Fa at the Aiea City Mill and Ms Tui at the Ewa Beach City Mill worked together to get me the most stable and best dressers and desk. I am so amazed and impressed. Im not sure people are aware the City Mill workers will put these items together for you and they have better knowledge than us sometimes. They also offer delivery which was amazing. I feel they offer furniture in our price range and also fit better in our homes. These two ladies show us we should all buy local. This review is long overdue. I try to shop local and City Mill is one of the merchants on my list . It was nice to be in the store for less than 5 minutes when a sales associate named Helen approached to ask if I needed help. She was quite knowledgeable regarding my situation about sinks and rusts. Helen led me to an aisle and recommend a product that she said City Mill may have stopped carrying. When she couldn't find it on the shelf, Helen recommended something else and asked what I had been using. When I gave her the product's name, she informed me that it wasn't appropriate and briefly explained why. Helen also gave me tips about rust and how to apply the product she suggested. It was a satisfying experience that day being asked if I needed help. In addition, I had called City Mill one day to ask if they had a particular shower faucet in stock. Helen was the one who answered the phone and went to check availability. When she returned after putting me on hold, she assured me that the faucets were in stock and that she could bring it to the front register since I told her I'd be right there. She said, that way, I won't have to look around the store for it when I arrive. It was a nice change of pace to be asked if I needed help and to receive the attentive and concerned customer care I experienced from Helen. I'm usually the one who walks around the store looking for someone to help me. When I do find someone, they're busy with other responsibilities. If I'm "desperate", I'll interrupt a sales associate to ask for help. Shantel is one of them whom I've asked during several visits. She stops what she's doing to assist me and never looks annoyed for being interrupted. She is patient, friendly and asks if I need anything else. She's been the person whom I've seen around most in the store. With the effects of the Pandemic, it's understandable that staffing shortage is an obstacle almost everywhere. Checkout is always a positive experience at City Mill. Cashiers Kathy and Teri have been present the past few times I was there - always pleasant and cordial too! One thing I miss at Aiea City Mill are those "mini aisles " that were located straight ahead when you walked in. Someone was always browsing at the variety of items on those racks. I was back at City milk yesterday, and the 1st question I asked was to a man name Danny, and he gave me my information, than I found what I was looking for. Than I forgot other items that I needed, and I Came across a lady name Kelly, she went out of her way to call someone to check with the front or to her co-workers to see if you carry car trash bags, and she helped me look for my car trash bags, that you no longer carry, and I ran across Fa, and she was my original 5 star customer service who helped me the first time I came in snd she remembered me, and Fa helped me again because Kelly had another department, than I told Fa that I'll keep on looking so I ran into Tui, a sales associate and she was a 5 Star excellent service as well, besides Kelly they both helped me get my supplies for work, and seen me through my shopping. And Izzy was my cashier, he was very nice as well, great job on the team work to get all the customers satisfied. His recommendation was spot-on as we used paint brushes and rollers with no dripping, running or mess. - Gary (Screening Department) gave us his undivided attention, friendly and professional expertise when we brought in an odd sized window screen frame that had some weather deterioration. He spent some time explaining the functions/benefits of the varying frame types, helped us select replacement screen and spline colors, accurately measure and provide a price and an estimated completion date. He estimated a 3-day turn around for the project and not surprisingly, we were contacted on the third day to pick up our replacement. We installed the new screen and it fit perfectly! The customer service at this City Mill is excellent! I bought two chairs from here and one was defective. Very easy to exchange. They swapped it out quickly and helped me carry it to my car. The workers are very professional and kind. I also like this City mill because there is lots of parking and less crowded compared to the one in Kaimuki. First off, let me just say that every City Mill that I've walked out of has left me feeling empowered and ready to get the job done. I need to remove my Directv satellite dish (because Directv sucks - see my review on them). Rather than paying an estimated $300 to get it removed, I'm going to do it myself. I showed the guys at City Mill a picture of the dish and how it's mounted and they immediately instructed me on the best way to tackle this project and showed me everything I needed to get the job done. Went to pick up folding table, no one around, asked for help, help was on the way! Normally, ask for help with the "other" hardware stores, usually wait around for awhile, and when they come, usually not very helpful, can't even direct you, usual answer "try look in that aisle" Thanks for nothing! City Mill has the help you need! Wanted to see the actual height, length of this folding table, but no display, this very nice lady, so helpful, opened up a table, cutting all the wrapping etc so I could actually see it, then told me she's going to use this as the display. Other store's wouldn't do this, They can't even direct you.. Also bought chairs too, the gentleman was nice enough to go and get me a cart to load this up! I love me some city Mill Never knew about their curbside pick up till all of the Covid started happening and I really have to tell you it's a true game changer to have the option to purchase the item and just pick it up curbside. I love time saving tasks!! Especially with two toddlers. There was an email for a city Mill special on Makita power tools with a free battery as a gift while supplies last. I had called in to ask if the in-store special would still apply for curbside pick up I spoke to a wonderful employee named Rich who didn't rest until he got an answer to my question Fast forward hours later after I'm done work and finally come into the store to take advantageous of the Makita offer and was assisted by Rich. He truly provided world class service from helping me find the item making sure it match the ad making sure that I got my free battery gift and free T-shirt to even walking my shopping cart to the front cashier and explaining the ad and special that I was taking advantage of. The entire experience is truly hands-down the best shopping experience I have had this entire year usually when I am coming to a hardware store kind of pointed in the right direction and that's it. Rich truly provided from start to finish from the first initial phone call into the store to walk in my cart to the checkout stand, A true world class customer service experience. I don't typically come to city Mill often because there are other hardware stores that are closer to my home but because of the experience I had today I will make every trip and mile to come to city mail pro city because of outstanding stellar employees and customer service that I received from Rich.
