Great service on 1997 Ford F-150. It had been a ranch truck for 24 years. They replaced the steering column and the air conditioner compressor. Plus they did oil, filter, plugs, wires, fan belt, and battery cables. The heater core on my truck, a 2001 GMC Sierra, decided to take a shit on me, so it needed to be replaced. I came in Wednesday morning, and spoke to the owner, John. John was very up front and honest, and didn't pull no punches. He gave me a time to pick up my truck, and it was actually done early (saving me extra $ on having to keep the rental car longer.) The work was done on time, and exceeded my expectations. A big thank you to everyone at City Garage. I absolutely recommend their services, and will be returning in the future. The total bill was just over $800. The old saying "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" could never have been more true. I had neglected to pay attention to my coolant, and kept putting it off with a "next paycheck" mindset. This repair bill ate a week's pay. Keep up on your vehicle maintenance, people. We've taken my VW Beetle here every time it's had a problem. The price is good, and the work gets done as quickly as possible-which is nice because I go to school in Berkeley and have very little time to devote to taking my car all the way back to Tracy to get it fixed (although the service is well worth it!) I usually go in with my dad because he knows more about cars than I do, but John still always explains what's going on to me and includes me in the conversation. He and his wife are the nicest people to deal with when you're stressed out over your car. read more

During the time that my car is being worked on I am always informed of what is going on including the price, details, etc. John is very detailed and thorough on explaining everything prior to moving forward with fixing it. WOW. Talk about rude! The old man who answered the phone was a complete jerk. I don't know how anyone can have a job with that attitude. I called and explained what was wrong with my car and the guy who answered the phone quickly shot me down. He said he didn't know anything about the engine, didn't even ask me what kind of car I had, I asked him if I could take it in and he said it's going to have go wait until after Christmas. To make matters worse, he sounded like he was falling asleep! Oh well. I thought I'd give this place a shot because it came recommended, but apparently he didn't want my business at all. The least they could do is have somebody friendly answer the phone. Not a good first impression for a customers first experience and I'm sure as hell not leaving my car with someone who doesn't even care. Worst customer service I ever received over the phone. DO NOT deal with this place, VERY bad customer service! I would give them a negative star if I could. Oh good I'm the first customer to rate this stupid place! Anyways, here's my long story but bare with me because the story explains it all the bad customer service they have from the get go. OK, here I go...so I emailed them for a quote online for some accessories for my diamondback cover and I don't even hear from them for 4 days. So I decided to call to make sure he got my email for a quote. So John (the owner) picks up and I asked him if he received my quote request and he tells me that he has it infront of him and he was just about to call me. I was thinking to myself what a coincidence that you happen to just about to call me after 4 days of receiveing it and after I made the call??? I don't think so buddy! He tells me that he has one of the parts at the shop and just needs to order the other two small items from the vendor, and it shouldn't take more than 4 days at most. 1 week later he says he hasn't gotten anything from the vendor yet and he just called the vendor to find out the part is back ordered! I honestly think this guy forgot to place the order and is telling me more BS. What can I do? He one of the only two dealers in northern CA. I didn't go with the other dealer because he is over priced. Anyhow, so i bite my teeth and say ok just call me when it gets here. 3 weeks later the item arrived. At this point I just wanted my accessory didn't matter the wait anymore. So I asked him to schedule me a day and he says Fri of that week at 9am in the morning. I asked him how long is it going to take and are you sure you are free to do the install? because its gonna take me 1.5 hrs to get there. He says about an hour and yes im sure. So that morining I get there and he has this surprised look on his face that I am there, like he forgot he scheduled me. He goes and look at my truck set up and determines that its going to take more than 1 hour like he said. He tells me I have to come back because he doesn't have time for me he's very busy today. I looked inside his shop and he didn't look busy to me, his guys was just standing around. I was f-in pist at this point but I was calm and said to him..you were the one that scheduled me and I asked to make sure you have time since I'm coming from a long ways. Few mins later he thad the audacity to tell me, " look here, you have two choices, either you want it or not". I said of course I want it I am here aren't I? I think he didn't even want to install it at all. I just got pist and said to the guy, you don't talk to you customers like that especially if you were the one who scheduled me to come. I don't want it anymore you can keep it. I told him I would contact the vendor and tell them what a bad dealer they are and shouldn't represent the vendor. Of course he didn't care.. I should of known not to order from him when I initially ordered the diamond back cover a year ago from him, got similar issues but this was the last straw that broke this camel's back. My state car broke down so i needed a tow to a shop that works on fleet vehicles. Debbie from City Garage set me up with ACE towing. As soon as I got to shop I was greeted by owner John great guy Soon after his Wife Debbie arrived to write up est. then she took me to rent a vehicle. The first place was out so I really appreciate that she waited to take me to another rental place. After getting a car went back to shop to retrieve my belongings and be on my way. After going to City Garage for 18 years I thought I would write a review. One example of the integrity of City Garage is, when my daughter was going to get her brakes fixed in San Diego where she lived. She told me she needed brakes front and rear. After she told me the price, I told her to have John fix them while she was visiting. We dropped the vw off to get brakes front and rear. When we picked the car up, the price was about one forth of the quote in S.D. John said it only needed brakes in the rear. read more

I really hate to do this but the person who answered the phone left me with no choice. Poor customer service skills by "The Woman Whom answered the phone and Insisted on Remaining Nameless". Uninviting and unwelcoming to a customer who was referred to their business and wanted to spend money inside their doors. I like to support local smaller businesses as opposed to corporate chains if they are good, so I inquired at the tire store to recommend one nearby and they sent me to City Garage....... It started with a phone call and me saying "Hi how are you doing today, Who am I speaking with"? The woman theat answered gave me the stiff arm and said you're speaking with City Garage how may I help you? I sarcastically said oh so your name is "City Garage" you must be the owner then? and she informed me that she wasn't. It led to a conversation on how I like to do business with people and that it is proper etiquette to establish a relationship on a first name basis when considering entering into a financial arrangement... she refused, said that she disagreed with me even if I confronted the owner with such. I asked her if the owner felt like they had enough business and they didnt have to have mine ,would he agree? She then had the nerve to ask me what my name was and I said there's no need for me to give you my name unless we're going to do business together and apparently we're not, because you don't not want to comply with my wishes to speak with you and your first name. She then hung up on me. Granted I am in sales I speak politely , I know what I want and I know where to find it if I need it. I gave City Garage an opportunity and they failed. *How much does a brake job cost ? I'm sure the owner would disagree with her that my business helps pay for her salary. More and more people perform less and less for their pay I'm not here to beat up workers I just wanted the person who answered the phone to facilitate the delivery of my money to her company so I could get my brakes done and she was the stumbling block getting in the way of that happening. read more
