We were originally getting estimates for enclosing our garage breezeway to create a laundry room. We got estimates from several other contractors who all wanted to sell us what they thought that should be (which were all beyond our budget). We contacted Victor at City Builders on Yelp based on excellent reviews before giving up and Moses came out for the estimate. Instead of trying to sell us something overly expensive for what we thought we wanted, he took the time to show us several indoor options to create an indoor laundry area at a fraction of the cost. We were so enthused at having room left in our budget that we expanded the project to convert our older electric cooktop to a new gas cooktop. We had a quote in hand the next day, and he was able to start work the following week. All the new water and gas lines, appliance installations, drywall work and touch up were done faster than expected. The finished work is amazing, and we were extremely impressed. We know picking the right contractor is difficult, and there's a lot on the line. We have no problem recommending City Builders and know that we'll be calling them for whatever future home improvement remodeling we may need. read more

I hired City Builders and Development for a full front yard remodel at my home in Van Nuys -- metal fencing, an automated gate, drainage, electrical/low-voltage, and pavers. What they delivered was unsafe, defective work and months of stress. After the job was completed, I had two independent licensed gate and fence professionals inspect the installation. Both found serious safety and code violations. The gate-operator entrapment safety device was bypassed and left sitting under the operator instead of being installed properly. The pedestrian gate near my pool was not self-closing or self-latching as required by California law -- leaving me exposed to serious liability and potential injury to anyone on my property. On top of the safety issues, the fence and gate assembly were fabricated about a foot too short, leaving large gaps under several panels that a person can crawl under. Instead of correcting the mistake, City Builders added "patch" pieces to hide it. Welds were missing or only tacked in multiple spots, posts were visibly extended with seams, and the gate operator was anchored with undersized hardware with exposed wiring pushed into the dirt. I sent City Builders detailed defect reports and photos -- including the findings from both independent inspectors. Rather than owning the problems and presenting a clear remediation plan, they dismissed my concerns as an "inflated scope," made partial repair attempts that made some things worse, and walked away leaving me to cover the cost of proper repairs. I have filed a formal complaint with the Contractors State License Board with full documentation. If you care about safety, code compliance, and accountability, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. read more

I am very happy with the work done by City Builders. They built a beautiful custom butcher block counter top for my kitchen island and installed new tile around my fireplace. Although my project was on the smaller side (not a full kitchen remodel), Victor always made me feel like I was his most important customer. He was quick to respond and was always available for questions. I got several quotes prior to beginning this project and City Builders was by far the most reasonable. I highly recommend City Builders to anyone looking for a contractor. read more

I contacted City Builders to bid on a duplex renovation in Santa Monica involving both structural and cosmetic work. I met with Victor after seeing their positive reviews, but the experience quickly went downhill. During our walkthrough, he acted like everything I wanted was straightforward. Then, out of nowhere, he mentioned that when he doesn't want to work with a client, he intentionally submits an inflated bid so he won't get hired. That alone was a major red flag. When I asked if that applied to my project, he reassured me it didn't and said he was interested. He promised to send a bid within a couple of days. A full week went by with no communication. After multiple follow-ups, I finally received the proposal--and it was absurdly high, roughly 2.5x what the project should realistically cost, with no meaningful breakdown or justification. I followed up again asking for clarification and a detailed cost breakdown and never heard back. If you're not interested in a project, just say so. Don't waste someone's time with delays, poor communication, and what appears to be a deliberately inflated bid. Based on this experience, I would not recommend City Builders. read more

Ever since we created our plans for addition (about 9 months ago - 950 sqft addition) we have looked for the best contractor for the job. After several meetings with other contractors Victor came and took his time reading the plans and explaining us the process (even though we had these plans we never saw what the engineer actually put in - because we don't understand anything at construction) after a very pleasant meeting Victor sent us the quote which was very reasonable and committed to a three month completion time. And he stood by his word! The project came out perfect and now we hired him again to redo the plaster at our pool and some hardscape. read more

We were searching for someone who can offer us an effectual remodeling service in our limited budget. Then, my sister-in-law told me about victor from City builders and development Inc. They have served us a wonderful remodeling job and their customer service is really fascinating. We would love to refer others to them. We're we're should I start... we wanted to take advantage of the newer law of adding a rental (ADU) to our property. Didn't know where to start we interviewed about 4 contractors which non left a good impression and we felt hopeless, we almost went with one of them just because we needed to choose, then last minute my husband co worker recommend Vic with City Builders And Development we didn't expect much after our past interviews but Victor gave us confidence from our first meeting we know he will be our contractor. Plans took about 7 months (corona times...) and we started right when we got our permits. Victor convert our existing garage to a beautiful unit with small kitchen and full bathroom and even laundry (didn't think it's possible to fit all of it and still have room for dining table and living room furniture). Process of the construction took about 14 weeks and the results are amazing. Within 3 weeks we found our first ever renter for an amount that was greater then expected. Thank you Victor and team until the next read more

I worked with Victor and City Builders on a renovation for my new home. Extremely happy with Victor and his team! There was quite of bit of work I needed to get done; from demolition, all new electricity, new framing, backsplash, a complete overhaul of my kitchen, and new flooring (including tile and wood floors). Victor was very patient with my wife and I as we took our time to make a decision on what we wanted and even provided us with 3D designs of how the place was going to look. Very impressed with how accurate it was. All in all, my project was finished wishing about 4 weeks and my wife and I are super happy. The first 4 pictures attached are the before, last two are after. Thank you guys! read more

I Called City Builders and Development four months ago to get a quote for an ADU project I wanted to do. I wanted to turn my detached garage into a unit I can rent and make some income on. After I received a few bids from multiple companies, I chose to hire City Builders on a few reasons: 1. They had the most professional (licensed, insured etc..) Company 2. They are not a large company (Family owned and operated) and I felt a part of the family 3. Reasonable pricing (about 15% lower then the highest quote I got) 4. They explained, and followed every step of the way and answered to all my questions with breeze. Now, 4 months after, I can definitely say it was the right choice, the ADU came out better than expected, faster than expected and rented our already for top dollar. City Builders suggested amazing ideas to maximize the space and made this ADU look like a 5 star hotel suit! Now we are working on doing an addition to the main house with City Builders - I can say I found my contractors for life! read more

City Builders and Development Inc. Did my commercial project (a 98 Unit Building) at downtown LA. From Foundation to Finished units, City Builders were totally dedicated. All permits passed with ease and the project was finished 2 weeks ahead of time. Victor is an amazing manager, took charge and never settled. I was amazed with their great crew. I Highly recommend City Builders for both Commercial and Residential projects! read more

I finished my project with City Builders three days ago, the project was complete remodeling to our kitchen, 2 bathrooms and whole exterior stucco. After getting over 5 quotes from contractors all over LA I chose to go with City Builders for 5 reasons: - They were highly knowledgeable - They were honest - They had a competitive price - They were professional and gave correct advises - They are a family owned and operated - which was close to my heart to see (owned by Victor - which actually came to give me the quote, His father, and together with the brother they all work amazing) I feel like it is the best decision I have made, from the demolition phase to the finish phase all was done fast, CLEAN, with not issues or concerns - Victor (a Designer by heart) helped me with the design of the kitchen and bathrooms and gave me awesome pointers. LOVED THE OUTCOME!! P.S - as one phase they did have a hiccup with the tile (materials were not shipped on time) which delayed the project by two days, but I cannot blame City Builders due to the fact its the tile people that messed up. Highly recommended! read more
