I was invited here to try the pasta however, I definitely stayed for the people and the ambience. I was a little skeptical at first eating pasta and seafood from a bar rather it has "beach" in the name or not. I am happy, however that I was persuaded to take a chance. The Pasta was absolutely mouthwatering, and the portion size was not only filling but gave me enough for another meal. While I sat and ate by myself I wasn't alone for long. The place was filled with many friendly regulars and workers. I enjoyed the conversation and even stayed for a few drinks. In the back there is a game room that has basketball, pool, darts, and corn hole. Throughout the inside there are many tv scattered around. In one area you will find a collection of tv and about 6 couches. One thing I also thinks deserves mentioning is that they have two women's bathrooms. I have never had to wait which I feel is a common problem in bars for women. read more

Soooooo after stopping to get wasabi shots around the corner at Pik Nik, we came here so I could get some fries! (Sorry no pics, I gotta get back in to my yelp life groove) First off, the bad: THERE WAS NOOOOOO COVID GUIDELINES BEING FOLLOWED!!!! OMG. No one had masks everyone was close together and I was legit scared for my health. No bueno City Beach ! Now the good, fries and onion rings were excellent!!! Granted I was tipsy and hungry but those jokers hit the spot. Didn't like how crowded it was and lack of mask Enforcement but it was still a good time. I absolutely loooove this place! The staff is super friendly and their food is so good! They have the best crispy fries! I've ordered their chicken wrap, flatbreads, tacos, crab cake fritters and a few other things and they've all been awesome! They have $1 tacos on Tuesdays that are delicious and a bunch of other specials during the week! My favorite thing about this place is all the games in the back room. City Beach is a nice bar with a lot of TV's! We mainly go for the friendly service and Sunday football. If you get there early on Sunday's the owner asks you what game you want and which TV you prefer. It has been nice since they have so many options. The beer cheese and pretzels melt in your mouth. Pretty cool bar that I'd been overlooking for some time! My friends & I came to watch the VCU game. I was pretty surprised at how big this place is! When you first walk in, there's the long bar on the left, and TVs, tables & chairs on the right. But if you keep walking back for a little, there's a back bar with more TVs, a pool table, and a few other games. The bartender I had was not cheerful at all. When I first ordered a drink, I tried to be friendly and make little small talk but she was short. I let that slide, cause it was packed for March madness. I went back for more drinks 2 more times & the interactions got worse. The last drink, she rolled her eyes and me and stormed off because she didn't get my drink right. I still give this place 3 stars because others I encountered were amicable, and the crowd/atmosphere was pretty chill. A beach in the city?!! Yes, bubba. One of my favorite sport bars in RVA. I came here to watch the caps on a Wednesday night. There are tvs everywhere so no problem. I love the menu, probably the best part. Plenty of seafood options and they have pierogis! I never would have expected that. The bar is large and they are plenty of seating options and even a nice lounge. The draft list leaves more to be desired. They have very generic options. That is the only thing keeping this from a 5 star place. I will come again in due time. read more

We went here, my two sons and a girlfriend, to play pool. We had a HUGE plate of messy, tasty nachos. The menu choices appear to be typical bar foods. Weird lighting in the pool room...almost too dark. All in all, it's a decent place for a beer, some munchies and a couple games of pool. read more

This honestly might be my favorite bar in town. It's almost impossible to explain why this place is great. The interior is spacious, fun, and beautifully hideous. Five TVs dedicated to cartoon fish? Why not. 20 Oz plastic mugs full of cheap beer? You can't beat it. Cornhole and beer pong? All day. Honestly, this place perfects the concept of knowing who you are and totally owning it. It's an eclectic while laid back sports bar with unbelievable amounts of space and ample seating. The wait staff and ownership are 100% the best in the city. So friendly, kind, and efficient. I've literally never encountered a waitress with a bad attitude here. They always are helpful and smiling. The owner is also incredibly friendly and will most likely chat you up about the Red Sox. The food is really, really, surprisingly good. It's priced right, super filling, huge portions, and exceptionally tasting. The chicken tenders with fries meal is a go to everytime, and their burgers are underrated. There is TONS of space. Its big, almost cavernous, and TV's in any direction you look. Great place to watch sports which really isn't indicated by the name of this establishment. Never crowded, and I've been here on several occasions (its literally 1 1/2 blocks from my house)... The hidden secret is they have some totally amazing food. Tuna bites, rocket shrimp, sammies...all served by friendly and efficient waitstaff. Just don't order a Sea Breeze to drink cuz 9/10 times they give you a Bay Breeze instead! Walking in, it's a lot larger inside than expected. There's plenty of bar seats, lots of tables and lounge seats, a small arcade in front, and a larger game room in back (with separate bar, cornhole, pool table, basketball arcade, beer pong table, and darts). We heard beer here was cheap, so we stopped in expecting only to stay for one round to check out the place, and then leave. The male bartender was so nice and attentive (it wasn't busy in the afternoon), and the other patrons seemed like locals and were quite friendly as well. Came during happy hour which is basically most of the day (11am-7pm). Since they just replaced the keg, the bartender ended up giving us the extra foam beer you get after replacing a keg, for free. Not every place does this, but when they do it's a really nice gesture, and really improves the experience. Because of this, we actually ordered a couple more rounds, played some games in the game room, and stayed a lot longer than expected. When the bill came though, we ended up getting charged the extra beers we thought would be free. I guess the manager wasn't okay with it and insisted we be charged for the extra beers. Not the bartender's fault, but it just really sucks to be surprised at the end. And considering that extra hospitality was the only reason we stayed longer, it's certainly a buzz kill. I really wanted to give this place 4 stars, but because of the bill I'm gonna stick with 3 stars for now. It's not the first time bars have overcharged me, most places assume I wouldn't realize because I've been drinking. I just hate it when places do that though. And I usually say something but since it didn't seem like the bartender's fault I just let it go. Next time I'll ask for an itemized receipt and confirm beer prices ahead of time (I should be doing this for all bars regardless). read more

I've been here numerous times. It caters to a wide variety of people. At the end of the day it's still a bar, but it really wxcels in customer service and quality. The drinks here are always top notch and I never feel like it's too much coke and not enough rum. The service here is A1 for a bar and the food is actually A1. I love the chicken ceasar wrap. It's Sunday and I am hungry and thirsty. The bar was full so I sit at a table and for 2 hrs not one person on their staff acknowledged my existence. What can I say about City Beach. This is a good hang out with friends spot. They have friendly staff and plenty of drink specials. And with their later hours, this can quickly become the after dinner/party location. They have several games including darts, pool, and arcade games you can play in groups or by yourself. The food is typical bar fare, nothing fancy and there is live music on certain days. If I were to have any criticism about the space, it would be the layout of the front room. If I could give this place a 0, I would. My friends and I came to have a nice night and have fun doing some karaoke. After already waiting 30 minutes to sing our first request (which we never got to sing), we go to the book to pick a song and are confronted by the DJ who said to my friend "we don't have any "ratchet" music". First I would like to know what "ratchet" music is and why their DJ assumed my friends and I were looking for it (we were actually looking for Fall Out Boys). Because we are black females, he assumed we were looking for some "ratchet music"? The comment was very discriminatory and once we heard it we decided to take our business elsewhere. The (male) DJ even proceeded to argue with me and my 5 female friends after we confronted him about his comment. Ok so for starters this is a dive bar with high end prices... in addition to the messy and unkept appearance of the place I have been repeatedly treated like garbage here. The customer service is only good if you're a man... as a woman I have been treated like a nuisance by bartenders on several occasions... asked "can you move?" when there was someone behind me who they would rather serve than me. This is not a one-time experience this has happened MULTIPLE times. Girls should treat girls good... just my opinion but honestly hate how the women who work here talk to other women. read more
