The menu is on the board so it took me a while to decide what to order. I settled on a bbq backed potato, my husband got a bbq sandwich My potato was so good and full with meat. When I asked for a go box, the chef brought out more pork saying there was nut enough on the potato and he wanted to make it right. Ok by me. The restaurant is very clean. Rest rooms spotless and condiment area did not shown any signs of sloppiness. We really enjoyed our lunch and the kindness of the staff Would we go back again? You betcha! read more

Oh my goodness, the food is so good here. If I am in the Castleton area doing errands, and I'm hungry, City Barbeque is the answer. My go to is the smoked turkey sandwich with a side of coleslaw which I put on the sandwich as I eat it. This is real turkey made fresh daily. Absolutely delicious! The service here is excellent too. You order at the counter as you enter, and the food is quickly brought out to you. The drinks are self service, and the ice tea is great. Also they have lemonade, so if you're a tea ice tea drinker that likes a bit of lemonade in your tea, you can make it just as you like it. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this place. I took my older son, who generally enjoys BBQ. We weren't sure what to expect from a chain restaurant. But it was absolutely great. He had brisket and I had chicken and both were melt in your mouth perfect. There were an array of sauces and extras available and all the sides were tasty, too. The staff were accommodating and helpful. A little brusque because this is fast-food, not table service. But totally easy to talk to. And the entire restaurant was spotless. For fast-food, it was super clean and organized. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and want some good meats. read more

A new City Barbecue location, and this one features a drive-thru. I am sure the drive-thru will popular, and in fact there were several cars in line when I parked and went inside. The interior is very nice, and I appreciate that there is a separate counter for pick up. It is clearly marked with signage so there shouldn't be any confusion about where to pick up your order. I chose to dine in on this visit, and the dining room is very comfortable. Tables are large and well spaced. It is easy to find silverware and several varieties of barbecue sauce, which are clearly labeled. Napkins are on each table, which is perfect for BBQ. Tables and counters were clean, and employees were friendly. There is a large covered patio with quite a few tables. I visit City Barbecue fairly often so it is nice to have another convenient location. read more

They let me order off of the kids menu! Let me explain. I can't eat more than 4-5oz of food at a time because I'm a chunk so I had weight loss surgery awhile back. Sometimes I go get a treat. Today was one of those days. I am always hesitant to ask if I can order smaller portions because people are so unkind about it. The guy taking my order today was fantastic. I ordered a brisket sandwich with some hush puppies. My husband ordered chicken and fries. I got a banana pudding for later. I haven't tried that yet. My brisket sandwich was delicious with the original bbq sauce. It was lean which I like. My hush puppy was so freaking good. Enough to be a smidge past 3 but not too close to 4. This location is directly across the street from the Castleton Mall. It's new and offers outdoor seating. The location is easy to access and the staff is very courteous. One thing I know for sure, their food smells amazing while it's cooking. It's like a sirens song, it really draws you in. I wish I could say the siren song equates to fantastic flavor, I'll repeat, it's really good, just not great. They use a wood fire to cook, that adds to the delicious aroma. What they lack of a clear rub or well seasoned factor. In my limited experience, a wood fire alone is not enough to season and flavor meat, this is what I feel was missing. The hint of seasoning. We placed our order online and picked it up at the carry out counter - it was seamless. I ordered the beef brisket sandwich with sides of barbecued baked beans and the collared greens. The meat was well seasoned and very tender. The baked beans were perhaps the best I've ever had - with bits of pulled pork in the tangy sauce. My wife got the LoLo's pulled pork sandwich that came with coleslaw on top. Both sandwiches were very good. In the past we've had the barbecue ribs and they are quite good. I'm a sucker for the Brisket Sandwich and I'm not afraid to say I haven't tried anything else! The homemade fries are a plus and taste like what I would make at home. I've also tried the hush puppies which are so buttery and good! The peach cobbler, chocolate cake and chocolate chip cookies are SOOOO GOOD!! The cake slice reminds me of the nostalgic feeling of the movie Matilda if you can eat the whole piece in one sitting, kudos to you, I prefer to savor every bite! We have eaten here several times, all carry out. The first time for thanksgiving. Everything is delicious. Food is always ready when they say it will be. Packed well so it's still hot when it gets home. We have had the motherload a couple of times which is a great variety. The BBQ sauce is fantastic and today they gave us some extra for free. When City BBQ first opened up here in the Indy area, Yelp had an event and I learned how much I enjoyed the place. The food was good, the people were friendly, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. So, I was excited when I realized that City BBQ was opening up in the Castleton area and taking over a spot vacated by Burger King. While you can kind of tell the building used to be a Burger King, City BBQ has done a terrific job of keeping the basic framework of the building while making it all their own. This location also features what I believe is the first City BBQ drive-thru in Central Indiana, a nice feature that seems to have altered the menu just a bit but keeping everything that folks love about City BBQ. In case it's not obvious, City BBQ emphasizes BBQ and similar products including pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, a smoked bologna sandwich, and a variety of other options. You have the choice of sandwiches, salads, sides, meats by the pound, desserts, etc. It's a surprisingly broad menu. Truthfully, I find it a little complex and it helps to probably look at the menu before hitting a drive-thru. While dine-in is now available for the recently opened restaurant (as are delivery and curb-side), I opted for a drive-thru experience my first-time around. Again, I found the menu a little complex upon driving up. I ended up ordering a pulled chicken sandwich, a side of fries (it is not a combo), and a large iced tea. The price came in at just under $15 - probably one of the major downsides here, though BBQ tends to be a bit higher almost anyplace. It comes with the original source blended in - you can order sauce on the side (though this was not explained). This was a solid experience. While I didn't go inside, I did check out the decor and found it appealing. There's also an outside dining area that was being utilized and appears to be quite nice. I could definitely tell they were still learning their way around as there were little hiccups. along the way. I'm not talking anything dramatic - employees were friendly and helpful, but little tweaks are definitely needed. For example, I think making sure customers understand the experience is super important. I was asked if I was a rewards member - I said no, but instead of asking me if I wanted to be it was just dropped. It would have been nice to have had it actually offered. There are bun options. This wasn't explained. I get that it's a drive-thru and things need to be timely, but when you're already taking time to ask me my name (for no obvious reason), I think hospitality would help. By asking someone about being a rewards member, you're also inviting them to return. I also noted that the host seemed to need information repeated regularly. I parked nearby to eat my meal and I noticed (and heard) this happen with every car behind me. On the flip side, the employees were friendly and the food was delivered timely. It was served fresh and obviously hot. Both items were delicious and I would easily order them again, though I'd likely try a different side as I thought the fries were a tad small in terms of order for the $2.99 price. I also felt like the iced tea seemed more like a medium than a large (in-house not as big a deal, but if you ordered a hot sauce and were eating in the parking lot it could be a bigger deal). Overall, though I really did enjoy this experience. I think this is a great location for City BBQ and I fully expect City BBQ to succeed here. The employees were friendly, the food was quite good and definitely upper tier for anything in this block, and the atmosphere is a definite winner. Next time, and there will be a next time, I fully intend to eat inside and enjoy it all a bit more or have a friend join me on the patio. It's nice to have a City BBQ finally close to my home and I can't wait to sample more of the menu. With some tweaks, this may very well end up being a 5-star experience. For now, I'm comfortable going with 4-stars. read more

I am a big City Barbecue fan! Unfortunately, this location could use some additional training. I have twice had barbecue chicken and also the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Each time the barbecue chicken has been way over cooked, yesterday it was even burnt. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich does not have much flavor. I can't figure out why it's so different at this location but it is just not seasoned well. I liked going to this new City barbecue because they have a drive-through but, I will go to Carmel, Fishers, or downtown Indianapolis location for a while. Maybe overtime this location will get folks trained enough to be able to offer a tasty food like the other locations. read more

Last time I visited City BBQ half my pork was fat & grissle. I was scolded by the manager that I am required to order my meat lean in order for it not to be all fat and ends. I walked into this store, first time visiting this location, no one was manning a cash register. No one was in line. I waited a few minutes. Ordered pork lean. The guy that took the order was shitty and said it doesn't come that way. We will see what we can do. The food was fine, good. I ordered to go but it came as a dine in order. The BBQ sauce bottles were 95% empty. The sweet was spicy instead of just sweet. The bathrooms were filthy. Piss all over one toilet seat. The other was left up. Just left this store having spent $15 for a beef brisket sandwich and 2 very extra small and way overpriced sides. I am not satisfied so heading to Mc D's for a BIG MAC! I asked for extra lean beef at the register and after waiting about 15 minutes got a small portion of mostly fat and burned brisket. I took the plate back to the counter where the staff member was very kind and ordered me a LEAN brisket. I took the new portion to my seat and found this portion to be a little more lean but still 30% FAT and burned gristle. The cole slaw and baked beans were flavorful but very small portions for $2.69 and $1.99. Most items on menu are ala carte. I wish Squealer's was still in Castleton. Second time here. New location, who dis??? I was excited to finally try this place. I was greeted by Antwann who was happy to offer his recommendations and favorites. I went with the more cowbell with potato salad and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese could have been better the potato salad was pretty tasty. The brush fire sauce is HOT HOT but when mixed with the sweet it was perfect. There could have been more meat on the sandwich but everything was good. Not delicious, but good. Will I be back???? Ate dinner at this location on a Saturday evening and the service was fantastic! Everyone we interacted with was friendly, kind and attentive. We ordered smoked turkey and pulled pork, as well as fries, salad & cornbread. Everything had the perfect amount of smoke and tasted great! Only thing that seemed a little odd was that they were out of green beans at 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday night.
