Love this hidden gem. Food is always fresh and ready. I found it quicker to order online. Takes about 15-20. The cashier is always nice and polite. They do have seating inside if you want to dine in. It's a very home feeling. Inspirational quotes are posted on the walls and family pictures and accomplishments. I love that FatMans BBQ tells a story. I paid $24 online for the rib tip dinner with two sides. You do have to purchase bread if you want it which is $0.68 I believe. You can get the sauce on the side or on the meat as well. I like that they wrap everything up so it does not spill or lose heat. Very smart. Can't wait to try more things on the menu. They have many options and turkey options for the people who don't eat pork or beef. Can't wait to try more and the desserts. The ribs are delicious and the sauce is perfect. I got mixed hot and mild. The greens are a bit salty and the Mac and cheese is missing something. It could use some seasoning but not bad. Better than a lot of Mac and cheese I've had in Indy. So I went back again, ordered the Exact same thing, and oh my what a difference, I received CHILD size portions, nothing like my first order from my first visit, but the price was the same! Walked in here around 4:40 on a Saturday night for an early dinner. It's in a strip mall that looks mostly like a take-out place. The inside is nicely decorated and has a couple tables but appears most of their business is take out. The inside was clean. There is not a restroom. They do have an old style sit down pac-man game that I was told was free. I didn't try to play it though. You order at a glass window and when ready the food is bagged up and put in a rotary window to be taken. The lady taking our order seemed to be unhappy or stressed. One of our items was incorrect and she did switch it out but didn't really have any emotion or anything. She just seemed to exist. The food though was amazing. We ordered the burnt ends and the jerk chicken. The sides were all amazing as well. I did try one of the koolaid pickles which are more like pickle slices. Those were good and definitely different than I've tried before. Between my wife and I, we gave the food a 9/10 and the service a 5/10. We will definitely be back to try more. read more

Noticed a new bbq spot on my way home and decided, why not give it a try on a Friday night; the Eve of NYE. I decided to try the turkey tips, small tip dinner, smoked wings and the banana pudding for dessert. Ribs tips weren't tender enough to eat without teeth as a placard says that's on the wall. The turkey tips were very good! They were tender. Some of the best I've had in the city. The smoked wings were a bit bigger then I like, but we're pretty good. As for the sides, I was hoping to experience a wow factor; something that would set them apart from others. And unfortunately, I didn't get that from the potato salad or baked beans. Last but not least, the banana pudding was giving banana pudding! And I'm so glad that it didn't disappoint. It has the right amount of richness. It had the right amount of cookies that went with the sauce. I didn't leave any pudding behind. Ha! I would like to go back and try some of the other desserts that's on the menu. The gentleman that took my order was patient and got my order right. The counter/window was clean and not cluttered. In fact, I liked how well lit the entire area is on the inside. And did I mention how clean it was. I like the touch of having the old school arcade game while waiting. It took me down memory lane thinking of Pizza Hut, back in the day, having games in the dining area. I'm glad I was able to support a small business. Smelled great when we arrived. Ordering was a challenge. The young gal needed it repeated. I wanted pulled meat sandwich coleslaw pickles and fries. Couldn't do fries only sides. Ok. I want fries. This is a little hole in the wall that is easy to drive by, but if you do, you will be making a big mistake. Had some business in the area, so the wife and I dropped in last Friday for lunch. Had no plans to stop here but saw the sign and went on in. Once in, we noticed a very simply decorated BBQ 1 room dinning. Everything was clean and inviting. But most inviting was the young lady working the register. She was a complete delight. Very helpful and patient, realizing this was our first time to dine. I had the brisket dinner with mac & cheese and collard greens (second picture). You will be given a choice between sweet or hot. I automatically ask for hot, but the brisket really doesn't need any sauce-perfect just as it was. The Mac was good but real surprise star of the show was the collard greens. This I turned up and drank the "pot liqueur." Would order this as two big my sides next. Might even try to buy pint or quart. Should also be noted that the brisket is a generous portion. I am a big guy and still took half home with me. See third picture. First picture is wife's pulled chicken with sweet sauce. Could not pick it up as fillings over flowed. She loved it! The restaurant was nice and inviting. The food quality and taste was poor. The turkey leg was dry, unseasoned and days old. They didn't even attempt to doctor up the canned baked beans or potato salad. The greens were good but the macaroni n cheese was the best restaurant mac n cheese so far. The portions were not in line with cost. They used to serve kool-aid pickle spears. Now, you get a packet of slices. Had approximately 6 slices in the packet. The quality of those have declined. I won't return though. This is way too expensive ($47) for what we received. Ordered: Turkey leg, greens, mac n cheese. Rib tips, baked beans, potato salad, kool-aid pickle and bread. They didn't even put the bread in the bag and I was charged $0.30 for that. read more

These people should spell country with a "k"- " KUNTRY, SOUL FOOD" FOR REAL! The seasoning, tenderness of the meat, freshness of the greens, smoothness of the banana pudding (A bit pricey but what isn't these days!) was Delicious! R-E-S-P-E-C-T GOES A LONG WAY! If anything is ever not what I expect it to be, THEY ALWAYS MAKE IT RIGHT! THEY ARE HUMAN. They have human employees. Mistakes may happen. It was chopped and not pulled (which you know is a different experience) and maybe a half a cup of meat was on each bun and the meat was dry. Don't let the 1-star rating fool you. This is the BBQ place for you if your motto is: Smother With Sauce Cuz You Can't Smoke Meats Worth a Shit! I mean, really? I am telling the God's honest truth that Arby's gives you a helluva much better smoked brisket sandwich for 7 or 8 bucks than Fat Man's BBQ and they charge about 12. I took my order to my car and should have brought it back in for a refund or the chicken, but I was driving to Lexington, Kentucky and wanted to get back on the road ASAP. So I scooped up the 4 or 5 tablespoons of overly fructosed syrupy so-called BBQ sauce onto the untoasted (translation: falls apart from serving as the sauce sponge) bun. Then I tried to find the five or six filaments of brisket (hard to say if it was actually meat or just brown-tinted dental floss) to add some fiber to the liquefied mixture and chowed it down confident that I'd be getting my sugar calories for the day at least. I really thought I'd enjoy stopping at a local place trying to make it as a viable business, but I wouldn't give this place six months if this is the crap they serve as BBQ, unless the people giving them their money think this is BBQ. Or order the chicken which one would hope is served complete and not shredded into flossy filaments and doused with globs of syrupy sauce. (Not a big deal as I won't be going back, but they may consider adding a few more tables for people to eat in. I saw a line of maybe 10 chairs for people to sit for take-out, but only two tiny tables with two chairs each.) read more

They discovered that they accidentally gave us a pulled pork rather than chicken, so they threw in the chicken sandwich for free. All this was discovered by them before we arrived. This was my 3rd time ordering from here and yesterday I was extremely disappointed by my meal- I ordered my usual the rib tip dinner- the tips were not the same taste they had no grill taste at all!! I could not figure out if they were old or microwaved. My potatoe salad was HOT and Watery- this was a result of being placed inside the container with the hot food. Overall I was not pleased with my food that I drove 25 minutes to get. I'm not sure if I will be returning. I loved it once but yesterday was a huge let down. read more

Unfortunately we got one order of baked beans and one order of coleslaw. So we were missing two sides, and one of the ones we got was wrong. The hot bbq was mild (which we may have gotten mild because it tasted just like the mild on other people's pulled pork). Both of us that ordered brisket found it chewy. Pulled pork-one person said it was decent. The other said it was okay. The person who ordered the chicken liked theirs. Cornbread was also just okay. It definitely wasn't worth the $97 bill. The owner was really sweet and she let us sample a rib tip and slice of brisket before making our decision. Barbecue heaven used to be my favorite BBQ place in the city but this place takes the cake!
