The chicken was so tender, easy to pull off! it was messy and delicious! Highly recommend! Best chicken i've had yet

City Barbeque near IU Indianapolis absolutely knocked it out of the park tonight! We ordered dinner for pickup -- a pound of brisket, a pound of pulled pork, mac & cheese, and coleslaw -- and everything was outstanding. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and exactly what good barbecue should be, and the pulled pork was just as impressive. Even the sides were spot-on. I lived in Texas for 30 years, so I have pretty high standards when it comes to barbecue. I can confidently say City Barbeque would hold its own in Texas -- and I'd put this meal up against what you'd find at plenty of Texas barbecue joints any day. I also have to mention the gentleman who brought our order out to the car. It was raining, but he was incredibly friendly, conscientious, and made sure everything was taken care of. That kind of service makes a great meal even better. Excellent food, excellent service, and an excellent experience from start to finish. City Barbeque continues to deliver. We'll absolutely be back! read more

Stopped for lunch and had a 2 meat combination plate. The barbeque was okay but I didn't really care for the sausage. Enjoyed the potato salad and the bread that comes with the combo plate and the ice tea. No table service is provided. Order at the counter and your order is put together quickly. Lots of seating in two separate dining areas. Next time I'll try some different meat selections. read more

The wait time was so long people were walking out. I should've followed suit. I waited 21 minutes between wait time in line, ordering and getting the gross food. I asked for lean brisket and I was given all fat. Literally the entire plate was fat! Waste of money and time. Now my lunch is over and I have nothing to eat. NEVER EVER AGAIN! read more

I'm not a huge fan of City Barbecue but came through for a group work lunch. Nothing wrong with City Barbecue but I've been spoiled with barbecue from Texas and it's set some high standards for me. We were a group of eight and the cashier was friendly and took out orders quickly, we even got our food in a timely manner. I ordered the Texas Rueben and it was good but there was barely any Texas aioli sauce and the Cole slaw wasn't the best. The hush puppies were overcooked and the potato salad was the better flavored item I had. read more

We ordered some quick carryout from here over the weekend and in true City Barbeque fashion, it did not disappoint. The staff was all very friendly and quick to pull the order together. We enjoyed our assortment of smoked Turkey, pulled chicken and sides like baked beans, green beans, cornbread pudding and coleslaw. I especially love their smoked Turkey paired with the vinegar-y bbq sauce. The ambiance is very rural (bbq-esque, if you will;) and adds a nice mix to the downtown food scene. I can't think of any other bbq offerings in the area. read more

Tried this place out and it was pretty good! I absolutely love the outdoor seating available here. I do think the prices are a bit high for the quality of the food, but still was a great dinner. The service was wonderful and very fast. read more

City Barbeque - Pitmaster Nachos and Three Meats, Two Sides (brisket, ribs, and chicken with Mac & cheese) - Barbeque Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

This was my first time visiting City Barbeque, and I wasn't very impressed. We ordered the Motherload, which included beef brisket, pulled pork, turkey, two sausages, half a slab of ribs, half a chicken, six sides, and cornbread. With three of us, there was plenty of food to go around and lots of leftovers, but the quality was just okay. I've had much better BBQ in other states, and Indiana BBQ just doesn't seem to measure up. I typically don't go looking for good BBQ, but since living out in Nebraska, one fell on my lap, and I couldn't get enough. And I won't say no to good food even if it's not my typical favorite. Good food is good food, and it'll get people coming back. This is not good food. The food lacked seasoning, the meat was on the dry side, and the ribs were tough--they definitely didn't fall off the bone like they should. It's safe to say they're not winning any BBQ awards anytime soon. I see now that one Yelper called their ribs, "drier than popcorn farts". Honestly, accurate. The other meats were better, but still no wow factor to anything. On a positive note, the staff member who took our order was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself, however, was surprisingly empty for 6 p.m. when most places would usually be busy. It was quiet. One person working on a laptop, and a couple of other casual diners. Overall, it wasn't a memorable experience. read more

I wanted to hug someone, the food was SO GOOD!! The staff is very friendly and genuine. The decor is beautiful and very peaceful to dine in. My oldest and I decided to eat City BBQ today and what a blessing it was to sit down, slow down and enjoy a great meal together! I got pulled pork, Mac n cheese and coleslaw, delicious! The sweet tea and lemonade combo is the best. And their peach cobbler hit the spot too. I highly recommend eating here. read more

I saw the sign for City BBQ and thought "I bet they have some great gluten free options" and I was right. They have many meats and sides sans gluten. I ordered the two meat option and chose the brisket and ribs as my meats. For sides I opted for the potato salad and coleslaw. The brisket was a home run! Great texture and flavor. The ribs were also good. I wasn't a huge fan of the sides (especially the coleslaw). I would ordered something different the next time. I also wished they would have left the bread out or asked if I would like something else, since I wasn't able to eat it. read more

I usually love the food here but today there was something not right about the potato salad. It just did not taste the same. It had a bad taste to it. Sometimes I go there to just get the potato salad for a meal with my family. Also the banana pudding had too many bad bananas in it. read more

City Barbeque is located between Oscar Robertson Blvd and 10th St, west of Doctor MLK Jr St near the in the Ransom Place area of Indianapolis in the West Side Shoppes center, very close to the IUPUI campus. IUPUI students: City Barbeque gives a 10% discount, just show them your Crimson card. Also, you can use your Crimson card to pay which is pretty rad. (I don't go to the school, I just found out about it and wanted to share ) City Barbeque has plenty of seating inside as well as outside. There's a mixture of bar height tables, lower height tables, booths, and bar seating facing the street. They have a variety of bottled soda to chose from in addition to the standard fountain drinks. Foodwise, there's a ton of different choices to select from. You'll have no problem finding something that you'll quickly enjoy. There's a lot of local sports teams represented on the walls or hanging from the rafters. And, they've got a party/event room dedicated to IUPUI Jaguars, the Jag Room. They have about 4 or 5 different sauces to add onto your food, as well as some packet sauces. I went with the Judge's Sampler and I was NOT disappointed! Everything was so juicy and full of flavor. The judges sampler included brisket, pulled pork, 1/4 chicken, half slab, two sides, and two cornbread. The staff was super friendly and very welcoming from the moment I walked in, during the meal, and on my way out. I'd say it's a must stop place to eat at! read more

Well maintained spot with friendly service and good barbecue. 3.5 stars from me. The sausage was better than the pork on this trip when the fat content was too high. My table mate's pork had the fat cap and he would have walked it back up to the counter and asked for a new serving but was too tired at the end of a long day. (It would have been 4 stars with less fat.) The Mac and cheese was good. The collard greens were the best thing on my tray! 5 star greens. read more

I'm not wanting to patronize chain restaurants. But this barbecue is very good. I had the pulled pork my friend had the brisket. All of it was good. You ordered a counter and wait for your food. It's pretty open and simple. I'd recommend it. read more

My fiancé and I always look for good BBQ when traveling. This happened to be our pit stop on Memorial Day. It was mid afternoon when we arrived and happened to be a bit slower due to the holiday. However, the cashier was incredible and helped us out with any questions we had. We ended up ordering their Three meat combo with two sides. I will have to say their pulled pork was incredible with flavor! The chicken was also good but the brisket was not my favorite. We ordered their texas toast which was great along with French Fries that we're cooked perfectly! Lastly, the green beans were good but nothing crazy to hype about. Overall our experience was a great one and we would stop again when traveling through town! Be sure to try all of their dipping sauces. Forgot to add their lemonade is refreshing! read more

I used to eat at this location more often when I worked downtown, but now don't really get over here, so it's been quite a while. Same menu as other locations, lots of interior seating. Friendly staff. Had my favorite, the Lilos, which is pulled pork sandwich with slaw on it. Mac and cheese and baked beans for my sides. Good portions and always a #yum. #ReviewsByRL read more

Amazing food and service as always! We try to meet here once a week atmosphere is great.

I really like coming here for quick barbecue close to downtown. They have more than enough parking which is always a plus in this area. I usually order takeout ribs when I stop by and get baked beans and coleslaw for the sides. The first time I came here I remember being unimpressed but every time recently the food has been so good and I want to go back for more. If you're looking for a quick and easy lunch spot and you're in the mood for barbecue, this is the place to go. read more

Got half rack of ribs. The were not baby back ribs. They were spare ribs. The cartilage was terrible. They were drier than popcorn farts. They were the worst ribs i ever had. I have made ribs for years. I just wanted a beak from cooking. My mistake. Don't buy ribs from here. Waste of money. The fries were cold and limp not crisp. They were terrible. I do not recommend this pace. Terrible food. I do not recommend this place. Keep driving past this place I have no idea how this place is still open. read more

Wow this was totally unexpected. I thought being a chain bbq place it would be just average but this was REALLY good. $1 delivery for all of May and when you download the app you get $5 off at checkout. So all this food came to $30. Me and hubby ate and there was still a little left over. You get 4 choices of meats and 2 sides. I added a peach cobbler for $5. I would have liked a few more peaches in it but overall pretty good. The whip cream is homemade, I believe. That was an extra special touch. All the meats were tender, cooked perfectly, nothing was dry. The sauce was good. Wish I could have gotten another to try but only one choice. If they had that option I apologize if I missed it. I enjoyed the corn pudding and the potato salad was excellent. I will be ordering again this month so I can try more sides! read more

My coworkers and I went to celebrate a birthday. Ended up with The Motherload: brisket, pulled pork, turkey, half slab of ribs, a half chicken, two sausages, six individual sides, three mini loaves of cornbread, and Texas toast. There were four of us, but this is advertised to feed up to six people for $74.99 and I believe it could have. We walked away with a few small boxes of leftovers. Because all the meat is smoked in advance, our massive order was out within just 5 minutes of ordering it. Each meat was flavorful and juicy--even the turkey! City Barbeque offers four or five different bbq sauces, my favorite of which was the brushfire. The sides were also good with the exception of the collard greens which were too salty. Loved their mac and cheese. Atmosphere is casual and clean. Lots of nice windows if you're hoping for some sunshine on your lunch break. My boss is a BIG fan of barbecue. He makes his own rubs, cures and smokes meat himself, etc. He was a big skeptic walking in, but walked out with nothing but praise for City Barbecue and I think that says it all. read more

We love City Barbeque! The service is good and the food is always great! We enjoy stopping by for a quick meal!

Gratifyingly good. 1 problem - sandwiches were too big. 1 sandwich could feed 2 people. Got 1 Carolina Goldmine and 1 pulled pork sandwich. Corn pudding and hush puppies. I would go back for three corn pudding every single day- if I could. It was moist and flavorful. Hush puppies were plentiful but a little bit small and dry. Food was fast and s the place was packed. Employees were very friendly and had quick service. Drive-thru only- so unsure of inside. -not my photos but they are exactly what they looked like IRL. read more

My favorite bbq of all time. I always get the chicken. It's so juicy, not too much sauce on it. Try to be healthy but can't skip eating the skin hahaha. The bread ... I normally take it home and put it in air fryer and it's 10 times better that way. For sides : potato salad , corn pudding , corn bread , puppies ... almost everything ... me love. Staff is friendly. This location is big with patio seating. Never leave this place with disappointment. read more

Keto lunch today and it was great. The restaurant is set up for COVID with spaced tables, arrows on the floor and everyone wearing masks. The usual fixing bar was unfortunately closed. That's a bummer but I'm sure it will be back. Friendly service at the register where I ordered a barbecued half chicken. It didn't take long and I picked it up at the other side of the counter and walked to a counter seat facing the parking lot. Chicken was moist, nicely cooked and delicious. I managed to eat it and not wear any of it, which is always a bonus. A quick stop in the men's room and the evidence was gone from my hands too. Overall, a good meal and friendly service. I'm a fan. Whoaaaaa this place is wonderful! The beef brisket sandwhich is smoked and juicy ! The hot Nashville chicken sandwhich had an amazing spicy sauce and the sandwhich will not disappoint anyone looking for a solid chicken sandwhich with fresh pickles on a warm buttery bun. The hush puppies were fried to perfection and the banana pudding was better then I thought , the home made taste of banana , cream. And vanilla wafers really hit the spot . Eat here all the time. For someone who wants good, whole protein options versus processed foods, this is a great option to follow my macros.

I ordered ribs for dinner and I am truly upset. I get food from here at least twice a week through door dash. But last night it was a horror the ribs were burned no meat and this coleslaw $3.59. I have never seen a tester slaw at all. I just don't understand why was this sent out of any restaurant! read more

We ordered through the website that partners with DoorDash drivers. It was very fast from ordering to food delivery! However we did receive one wrong item. The sandwiches nonetheless and the sides were great and we appreciated the fast delivery. read more

Beside the extremely rude cashier, the food was pretty good. Especially the macaroni and cheese and the pork belly.

I ordered the Beef Brisket sandwich, potato salad, Mac and cheese and baked beans, lemonade to drink. The sides and lemonade were excellent, but the Brisket was completely dried out, and worse still reeked and tasted of charcoal lighter fluid. My order was through Door Dash, and they gave me a refund, but they don't allow you to review when you report issues, so I am putting my complaint out here. read more

The only reason they are getting 3 stars is for the atmosphere and the turkey taco. All the other meat the ribs, the brisket, and the chicken had no seasoning. The different sauces were not good at all, just tangy.. On another note ,the restaurant itself was clean and the staff was very nice. There were about 20 other people with me and about half of them liked the food so I would say try it yourself. read more

The brisket was dry, overly salted, but the worse offense is that City Barbeque stole from me. On 8/30/24 I ordered and paid for banana pudding. When i got to the store, i asked if my banana pudding was in the bag in addition to my normal food, i was told yes. When i got home the banana pudding was not in my bag. City Barbeque took my money, and stole from me the price of the pudding plus tax. AND i was lied to. I'll not being going back. It also doesn't feel safe in the parking lot. I think you consider other places for bbq. read more

Excellent service. Delicious BBQ. Plenty of parking. Come alone or as a big group, there will be room for everyone.

So damn good! We had the brisket- tender and lean, chicken (breast with wing)- moist with great flavor and the ribs- they were "bite off the bone" as the sign said. That was what the sign said and it was accurate. For sides the Cornbread, baked beans, mac & cheese and side salad were good. A really nice side salad. Bonus- the bathroom had a door opener, so you don't have to touch the handle. My whole family thought this was awesome. If we were local, we would be back! read more
