We mostly do take out when we order City BBQ for its delicious convenience. Both smoked turkey and brisket are favorites. The smoked turkey is smoked to perfection and retains it's juicy goodness. The sides are also very good with green beans and brisket baked beans are go to's. The drive thru ordering and pick up are seem-less and easy. On occasion I add a couple rib bones as an appetizer. Guys, what happened? When I had to explain what my rewards club card was some years ago, I was kind of puzzled...the person acted like she had never seen one before. I found out that had been quietly discontinued (fortunately the balance was still there.) Then the hot sauces vanished. That was a sad day. Then the hush puppies changed. They went from these giant tender balls of cornmeal with stuff in it to oscillating back and forth between little blobs of overcooked whatever to small, hard crunchy balls of flavorless nothing. They used to be magically delicious, the last ones I had may as well as been balls of deep-fried bread. I didn't finish my portion of them. I remember the first time I went in and got a container of what looked like oversized burnt party snaps and went what is this? The baked beans went from sticky sweet gives-you-diabeetus treats to just kind of, I don't even know what you'd call them. The last ones I had were more vinegar than brown sugar. I used to just buy pints of these beans for dinner and eat them, the last ones I had were not even as good as what you'd get from a can and I almost didn't finish these. The only saving grace was the decent sized chunks of brisket in them...which also had no smoke flavor to speak of. And the meat...I used to love the pulled pork. You'd go in to the store, eat, and come out smelling like smoked meat both from the smoke in the store and smoke on your sandwich. This last time? If that was smoked then I'm a boar myself. No smoke flavor at all. Not even on my hands after I was done eating it. I mean, the meat was ok but it was absolutely nothing special. It needed sauce for flavor and this meat never used to need sauce. I'm just really disappointed with what I had on my last visit. The person I went with was much less friendly when telling me what he thought about the visit. I can overlook prices going up, I know stuff's expensive - but you were literally not a whole lot better than the pulled pork sandwich from the hot case at Duchess. There's simply no reason for me to come back. I've been giving you chances over the past few years, but every time I come into a store (any of them!) the quality and taste of the food has slipped just a little further. Sorry guys. It's not me...you've changed. Looks to me like you've added a few mirrors to the smoking process. read more

I hadn't been to City BBQ in a while -- and I'll admit, I was skeptical. Past visits have been hit or miss, and at almost $2.50 a rib, a "miss" stings. But this most recent stop at the Reynoldsburg location turned out to be a win. I hit the drive-thru after work and happened to land on Rib Bone Tuesday: 4 ribs for $1.99 each. Quick service, friendly staff, and my food was hot and ready without a long wait. The ribs? Surprisingly great. Thick, smoky, and tender with a nice bark. No undercooked sauce or surprise cartilage -- which I've unfortunately experienced here before. I did ask for center cut (as I usually do), and while they say that request can't be passed along, the bones I received were solid. Texas Toast was a nice add-on -- buttery, griddled, and came two for $1.99. A note for the longtime City BBQ folks: I do miss when they used to offer self-serve condiments -- red onions, jalapeños, and pickles -- along with all the sauces in pump bottles. Now, some sauces like the Original come in peel-top packets, and that just doesn't feel the same. Also, while I didn't grab it on this trip, I stand by this statement: City BBQ's potato salad can hang. Possibly better than your mom's. Could be better than your granny's. I said what I said. All in all, I left satisfied and would definitely go back -- especially on a Tuesday. read more

We ordered the Dirty Bird, which is quite fitting for this location chicken quality. The Mac & Cheese was mush, so we didn't bother. Wow!! We just had lunch at City Barbecue while using the nearby EV charging station. My husband and I like well prepared brisket and pulled pork, and often make BBQ for parties. I am always a little skeptical when trying a new BBQ joint, but City Barbecue is the real thing! I had delicious pulled pork sandwich (Lolo's) complete with slaw and a variety sauces from which to choose. Covid review for carryout on a Tuesday lunch. Website is fully supportive to Covid ordering. We customized our order and paid online. Quoted 15 minutes. Smooth. They only have one designated park spot, so we pulled into a spot very close to the front door. This proved to be problematic. Texted them we were "on the way" and another "we arrived". After 30 minutes no food. I called, seems they lost the order or didn't see me in their designated spot since I was two spots over. They needed to redo the food as it had been sitting out for 15 minutes. All in all it was 45 minutes and not 15. Order was apologetically delivered by a server, 100% correct, and packaged well. My wife and I eat pretty regularly at City BBQ. Tonight she picked up and order which included rubs. Because they were tough and over seasoned, I called and pressed the number to talk with someone about a previous order. As I began telling this story, I was immediately interrupted with the lady saying "we don't have fall off the bone ribs"! I replied, well I guess that explains it and I hung up the call. City BBQ Reynoldsburg has been closed for a bit for renovations. In short they rebuilt the entire location. This has allowed for a streamlined ordering experience. Our dine in experience was MUCH better than our take out experience! Everything was so fresh and so yummy! When walking in, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess who placed our meal orders. For those of you who have never been, you place your food order at the front, wait a bit, pick up your food order, and then take a seat. I was not aware. Once our food was ready, we took our seats. We were told that our fries would be delivered to our table once they were done (Yes! Fresh and hot fries...just the way I like them)! Tho it's been several, several years ago, I've been to another City BBQ (Gahanna, maybe?). I'm not a huge bbq fan, so basically this was a family decision, so I followed in toe. Boy oh boy, has this part of Reynoldsburg gone down in liveliness over the past 20 years. This area around Main/McNaughten intersection, and the Main Street corridor in general, use to be a major shopping/business area, back in the days of Value City, Schottenstein's, The Spaghetti Shop, TJ Maxx, Kmart, etc. Stepping inside CBBQ felt a bit odd. The service wasn't anything special, the people working seemed annoyed with the general thought of interacting with the public. Several items needed refilled on their condiment stand, and when I politely asked the lady to put out more cups for their pickle bar, she looked me straight in the eye, and never responded nor put some out. The food was quite good, the saving grace. I had some of their City Sampler, trying the pulled pork, beef brisket, and a small cut of the sausage. The brisket was juicy and tender; had great flavor. I did ask for a side of their homemade horseradish dipping sauce, and that kicked it all up a notch - highly recommended. Same for the sausage - both super juicy and full of flavor. Tried their homemade potato salad, and that was a personal favorite. Creamy (mayo in it?), small tasty chunks of potato, excellent side. Had a bite of the corn casserole, and it was good. More sweet than corn taste, but it was good, nonetheless. read more

Shalom we're here for a visit and have been eating out with our daughters the eldest brought dinner, believe me, she can really cook I wish she had. She purchased shredded chicken which was pretty moist and needed pepper and some color! which came along with Baked beans as we don't eat pork I was amazed not every place can make this and with beef. I just realized they had sandwich buns wish they were kaiser buns more appealing, I made half I should have made a whole sandwich watching bread intake, and wish they had given a little more than two BBQ tiny containers but for the most part, the beans outrank Krogers they had no flavor just sugar tasting bake beans. City Barbecue has been among our favorite restaurants for years. We've shared the experience with many family members, friends and co-workers. in fact, several of my previous jobs had them cater their events, which all were quite successful. The place gives you that down home BBQ feel you got if you ever tried out a good rib joint down south. I've had the Beef Brisket, Pulled Pork, Smoked Chicken and Catfish (when it's in season). I'll get around to the rest of the menu someday, but it's hard, when these items are so tasty. The BBQ flavor is wonderful. Of the sides, I've had the Fries, Green Beans, Mac & Cheese, Cornbread, Collard w/Pork and Baked Beans w/Brisket. They also have great lemonade that will fill you up quickly, if you're not careful.
