I went w/ their Korean spiced pork tacos which consists of marinated Korean spiced pork, creamy mango jalapeño slaw, served on corn tortillas w/ homemade salsa verde, black beans, & sriracha mayo. After seeing my colleague get the same thing as me but as a sandwich, it made me wish I got that instead. However, I still enjoyed the tacos nonetheless, it was packed w/ flavor. I was looking for a place to grab some caffeine and get some late work done on a wet, winter late-ish on a Sunday night. This fit the bill nicely. Friendly staff. Anything you could want to drink, hot or cold, beer, cocktails, coffee, and more. Seating at the covered outdoor tables by the campfire or at the indoor tables upstairs. I usually never get hot chocolate 'cause I can make that at home, but this was Nutella. I never tasted Nutella hot chocolate before, so we got one. Nutella is usually sweet, but this was surprisingly not too sweet, which was a good thing. My crepe was pretty tasty - it had different mushrooms and spinach. Highly recommend you try their coffee drinks. We order their special lattes and it tasted really good. Any latte should do the trick! For breakfast, we had their cuban pork sandwich, vietnamese style sandwich and Tender Korean Pork sandwich. Of the 3, I highly recommend their tender korean pork sandwich. The meat is super moist and tender and with the right amount of spices to get your taste buds going. The vietnamese sandwich was okay. The bread was a bit on the harder side. The cuban sandwich was meaty. The staff here are VERY friendly especially when we were there during the breakfast hours. The decor from the inside and outside are really creative. I wish I would have come at night to enjoy the fire pit, that's honestly my only "complaint". Our server was pretty perfect. He came to our table just the right amount of times. Enough to make sure we were taken care of, enough water, clean silverware, plenty of napkins. But not too many times to be annoying. It was extremely hard to choose what to get to eat, and I knew I made the wrong choice as soon as I ordered, because every time someone's order came it smelled so delicious. Not that what I ordered wasn't good, but I wanted everyone else's food also. Our food arrived in a timely fashion, it was hot, and tasted fresh. I wanted to attend the evening garden area but thinking it's only open till 2pm. Finally made it for brunch and asked the host about the evening time... she explained it that they close by 2pm but will open the beer/cocktail garden side back up after hrs. (OK got it now) so I will be back to check it out. On another side note. This place doubles as a breakfast/brunch place as well as a beer garden / cocktails space also known as the Citizen Campfire during the afternoon/evening hours of the day. I checked out the campfire and ordered the hibiscus rye sour which feels like a standard beer garden type of drink - bartender premixes the cocktail, adds ice, and pours the mix into the cup with a lemon wedge as garnish. Low effort, but lower in price compared to restaurant cocktails that are a bit more sophisticated. I enjoyed the slight floral taste and a bit of the tanginess that honestly is carried with the lemon juice than the mix itself. Other coworkers ordered a bunch of beer towers to have a fun time, and I also partake in trying out those beers which there are many different kinds - from the standard beers to IPAs to sours. We also got bulgogi beef nachos which were served in a paper plate, so some cheese is stuck, but otherwise it is a nice, fusion-like and somewhat heavy dish that is very good to share. Came here around 1pm on a Sunday for a bite. I think my intentions were misplaced, and I will get to that soon. Ordered a farmers breakfast and a Henry's scramble. Both were terrible! Toast tasted like the flat top, eggs were goop, bacon was rendered fat that cooked again, and the potatoes were impossibly bad. Also worth noting that everything here is disposable from the cups to the plates to the condiments. The amount of waste that this establishment must create is unheralded. HOWEVER - it's worth noting I think there is a way to successfully patronize this place: day drinking. There is ample outdoor seating, boozy slushies, and trash food. This weekend I tried the salsa verde breakfast burrito and it was okay. A bit spicy for me and bland but it was okay. I had their aloha coffee and it was really good. Definitely will get that again. A gf of mine lives down the street from Citizen so it's becoming a favorite. Now that summer is just around the corner, it gets packed quite early (around 4:30-5pm) and even more so around 6. The vibe and the people are friendly -- happy hour drink specials + dogs, what's not to be happy about? I haven't had much of their food, but I have ordered the nachos and Korean tacos before. Both are OK. Woodshop BBQ came by the other day and served "table side" -- or more like patio side. We had their brisket sandwich and pulled pork over mac-n-cheese, and both were fantastic. The other day I was there, I was overcharged by a few dollars. I mentioned it casually and the bartender was eager to amend the difference. I appreciated his friendly and helpful attitude. What a super cool spot! We came twice for breakfast because it was so convenient to our hotel and each visit felt like a completely different restaurant. The set up is unique. There's the "to go" section and a couple tables in the very rustic main portion of the restaurant or an upstairs with exposed wood and a wall papered with the pages of Anna Karina. Cool! Felt very Seattle, cold weather cabin-y. The other location is around the corner from the main restaurant and has bright, pops of orange walls and furniture with big windows looking into their outside area. I wouldn't say it's cramped but definitely cozy seating wise. We were bummed to miss the fire pits but would definitely return to check those out if at the same hotel in the future. They are used in the evenings (place closes at 10). Dropping a star because my salad here was sub par. Honestly I have a habit of not always ordering the best items because of my dietary restrictions and I think this was that kinda situation. It's a crepe place- sweet & savory. But I can't eat crepes. I got one of their salads with chicken and was disappointed with the chicken. It had a funny taste to it- kind of liked grizzled deli meat chicken. Not supple, tasted old, wasn't warm but I'd just jumped off a flight and was pretty hungry. The rest of the salad was fine but unremarkable even with the candied almonds, blue cheese & cranberries. My coffee was very good though & my husband liked his pumpkin spice latte which I can attest was a true coffee and not sugar laden. On our next visit, because despite the less than stellar salad, I really liked the people, I had eggs and sausage. Two side dishes I ordered straight up. My eggs were cooked to perfection and the sausage was kickin & spicy! My husband had the cowboy casserole which is a dense, hearty dish. He couldn't even finish it! Perfect pre flight meals. When we stay in a downtown Seattle hotel we typically choose the Four Points by Sheraton near Seattle Center and we almost always have at least one meal down the street at Citizen. Citizen built it's reputation on crepes, but they also do a great job with sandwiches. Although the wine list and draft beer selection are somewhat limited, I can almost always find something palatable and I love the funkiness of this little restaurant. During the summer (and weather permitting), outdoor seating with full service is available on the patio or, if you prefer, the beer garden offers a full bar, wider beer selection and a variety of appetizers and snacks from the bar. Open a tab, order your food and drinks from the bar and settle into a comfy chair around the fire pit, play games or find a table and a server will bring your food to you when it's ready. On our last foray into the city, we enjoyed a mid-afternoon lunch and happy hour drink and snacks the following day in the beer garden. I opted for the Citizen Sandwich for my late lunch -- a flavorful shredded pork sandwich featuring a tasty aoli and a few mildly spicy slices of jalapenos served with potato chips. My companion went with one of the featured "savory" veggie crepes. Both were delicious and filling. Someday, we'll be hungry enough to share one of the fabulous looking dessert crepes! My only complaint about it visit to the beer garden was that the staff never noticed when it started to get a little chilly. We waded into Citizen at the suggestion of the hotel concierge for brunch. The place has a cool unassuming local vibe. Small but on a Sunday morning, seating still wasn't an issue because of quick turnover. We were happy to sit at the counter facing the windows onto the street. After a long flight from the east coast, I was in the mood for a fizzy MIMOSA and something warm and indulgent. Citizen provided both without apology! The regular LATTE was delicious and helped warm us up quickly. The mimosas were delicious without pulp but a little rim of rind around the glass that's a tell tale sign of fresh squeezed. And the fizz was aggressive and indicative of a strong pour of champagne. At the great price ($5), one did the trick! The French toast flavor for the day, chocolate almond, was enticing but when asked our waitress directed us to the BREAKFAST SANDWICH. There was zero let down here! The giant cheddar biscuit was piled with a perfectly over easy egg (hello liquid golden yolk!), avocado, and bacon!!! There was also a magical sauce that i honestly don't recall the ingredients of. Very disorganized place, and really don't care about customers. Waited 20mins for my food & drink and was told that the barista was a bit disorganized - got a cup of water and waited 15 more mins for my Americano to show up and probably another 15mins for my food to show up. The table next to us ordered around the same time but by the time I got my food, they were done and ready to head out. For the coffee, I specially ordered decaf as I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine but you know what, I waited 35mins to get a cup of REGULAR Americano instead of decaf. Disorganized is an understatement. None of the workers communicate with each other. I came in at 1120 to pay for a to-go order I made and it was on top of the coffee machine the whole time. I waited outside for 40 minutes because they were busy until I finally came back in and asked about the food. No one knew where it was until they checked the food that had been sitting up there since I came in? Problems like that are why your ticket times are running upwards of 60 minutes. Couple that with the person who knew who the food was for work the espresso machine having to explain to the other worker how to void it. Then telling her "tell them we are so so sorry" in the most sarcastic tone while looking at me. Who hired you? Your customer service skills are embarrassing and being rude and condescending when it's a lapse in your own work that caused the screwup is ludicrous. I even tipped an extra 20% on top of the service charge because I saw how them dealing with terrible people. It makes a whole lot more sense why people don't want to pay your service charge when you put no effort into service. It's a quaint, unique, locally owned joint with outdoor seating, upstairs seating, and one-of-a kind ambiance! I used to visit Citizen quite a bit before the pandemic and was a real fan. This week was my first visit in quite some time and I was very disappointed. I've always ordered their breakfast sandwich which in the past was served in a delicious biscuit. Now it is served in a simple burger bun - definite downgrade. I also ordered a chai tea and it was served in a small disposable paper cup. They charge a 20% gratuity automatically and it prompts you for a tip in addition. I didn't catch this (if it even tells you) until after the fact so ended up paying over $30 for a breakfast I really didn't enjoy. I won't be returning. read more
