**Review for Citizen Café, Barcelona - June 5, 2024** I had a delightful lunch at Citizen Café today. The service was excellent, adding to the overall pleasant experience. I ordered the cheeseburger with homemade fries and the pastrami with homemade fries, accompanied by an orange juice and an Americano. Both meals were fantastic, and the fries tasted exceptionally fresh. The lunchtime ambiance was perfect, creating a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere. The breakfast menu also looked fun and enticing, making me eager to return. Citizen Café is definitely a spot worth visiting for a great meal and a welcoming environment. Great spot for American and Canadian travelers! Though the kitchen closes from 5 PM until dinner, their breakfast is amazing. I tried the pancake tower--thick, lightly glazed with maple syrup, and served with scrambled eggs (or a fried egg, if you prefer) and real American bacon. I paired it with an orange juice and oat milk cappuccino. The food was excellent. The bathroom is wheelchair accessible on the first level. Note: it gets busy in the mornings.

I was here while they were opening up shop. Loved the vibe. They were friendly with me and each other. Had a cup of coffee that gave me life. Would come back just for that coffee!

A cozy little place tucked away in the Gothic District. Don't let their menu fool you. They have enough variety to satisfy carnivores and vegans alike. Not to forget about a meaty but veggie Bloody Mary. It's a popular local breakfast spot. We ordered blueberries pancakes and huevos ranches eggs. Pancakes are buttery and cakie which is what I prefer. The huevos Rancheros is super delicious. Service is ok. They are super busy so it's not always warm and friendly. Worth stopping by for sure.

See how small the portion size is for the delicious French Toast

This rating is strictly based on the portion size which was very small but I was hungry! The staff was awesome, food was delicious and nice location.

I was just getting off of a 7 hour flight from NY and was very hungry I looked up breakfast in my maps and saw the pictures of Citizen Cafes food and new exactly where I was going. They were very nice and hospitable. Their attitudes definitely added to the nice atmosphere that was created. Play ended up ordering the "pancake platter," which was three pancakes and in between the pancakes what is a layer of bacon in a layer of eggs. It was absolutely heavenly!! :) I would 10/ 10 recommend this place to anybody who is looking for a yummy breakfast and a good atmosphere.

Not sure why this place is so highly rated. We had poor service and mediocre food. It was nice that they had gluten free bread but their avocado stack has two slices of toast and only one poached egg. When we asked for a second poached egg, it took over 25 min by which time my toast was already soggy. Huevos rancheros we're too tomatoey and didn't have enough beans or flavor, the veggie burger was meh, pretty flavorless and pink but French fries were good. Oeuf sur Le plat was good, might have been better with two poached eggs rather than one. Cappuccino and fresh OJ were perfect. Presentation was good, service was lacking and wait staff seems overwhelmed. C

The breakfast at this restaurant was delicious, scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes with maple syrup. The has browns were fantastically crunchy. The orange Juice and coffee were great. A wonderful place for comfort food!

Went to Citizens Cafe with my girlfriend at the time for breakfast. Service was great and the food came out fast. We got there at 9am and it was a perfect time before it got busy. They have a big venue as well.

Interior: this was cute, service was quick for a Friday morning. Chai latte: this was nice and warm and has that Indian chai spice that I enjoy. Ceviche: this was very refreshing and tasted amazing. The lime juice on the seafood was the perfect amount and just tasted amazing. Pancake platter: this was nothing special. They give you a small amount of syrup and the pancakes are really thick so for us we needed more syrup. I will say that the bacon was crispy and tasted great but next time I'll probably just get the bacon. ChilaQuiles: Was not a fan of this. For me the chips on top were extremely hard. The green sauce mixed with everything did not taste good to me, it was more sour if anything.

Great food and service. No wait if you're traveling solo and don't mind sitting at the bar. The line for a table wasn't too bad either.

Oh my gosh. I wish I could give this place over 5 stars. Everything was phenomenal! We found this place for brunch and came back several times on our trip to Barcelona. I got the pancakes with a side of bacon, and my sister got the eggs benedict. We were raving about this place. The golden milk was also very yummy and a nice way to start the day. The only thing I didn't love was the espresso, as it's a lighter roast than I usually like so it was a bit tangy. That's just preference though. We love love loved it here.

Nestled in an unassuming network of cobble stone lined alley ways are hidden gems worth discovering. We came looking for tapas, paella, sangria; and we found just that. Location: Plaza de España is within a 5 min walk, blocks away from shopping, and 30 minutes from the airport by way of shuttle. Used Google Maps with several sharp turns to find this local favorite. Service: the owner employs his pet Pomeranian, that follows the wait staff unconditionally. This is a no frills restaurant; grab a seat anywhere you like, and order off the menu. What we ate: Table service - pitted olives; briny and herbaceous. So delicious as an appetizer. Crisp Potatoes - served with aioli and red pepper sauce; so simple yet so comforting. Fried Calamari - can't go wrong with crispy calamari. Pork & Mushroom Paella - I know we're used to seeing seafood, but pork and mushroom with crispy rice is different, bold, and worth each bite. Sangria Blanco - I won't lie, it was heaven with the first sip, and it left me wanting more. Unlike its red cousin; white sangria is lighter and more fruit forward. So refreshing! After 18 hours of transiting; this was a delectable experience.

Ziryab seemed to fit the bill, so we made plans to stop here during our first night in the city. Ziryab is located close to the Gothic Quarter, on side street. It's kind of inconspicuous from the outside, but the interior gives way to a really welcoming space. The restaurant is separated into two main areas, with an earth-tone color scheme that has a rustic, almost cave-like aesthetic. The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows keep the dining room open and spacious. The tapas menu had a good selection, and we decided on several items: pan con tomate, sweet potato rolls, chicken cannelloni, bacon-wrapped figs, croquettes, falafel, and a charcuterie board. All the tapas were great - my favorites were the chicken cannelloni, pan con tomate, and the charcuterie board. The cannelloni especially was a standout - definitely a unique dish, and the chicken was super flavorful. We opted for dessert, and got the feta whip cheesecake - this was great as well. The combination of tang and sweet was a good finisher to our meal. Service was great - everyone was friendly and our dishes were served at a good pace. Overall, I'm glad I tried out Ziryab - the tapas were delicious and atypical of ones you find elsewhere in Barcelona. I would have no qualms returning here for another meal.

We were there just after 7 pm so it wasn't as busy as I imagine it will get later, because in Barcelona, people don't have dinner until 9 or 10 PM. We ordered fresh salmon with dill, coroquetas de jamón iberico, a cod fritter, and chicken cannelloni with foie gras and black truffle sauce. We also ordered the pan with tomate, of course to soak up the truffle sauce. The cannelloni was amazing! I mean it melted in your mouth amazing!! After our snacks... We ordered dessert. It's done so right, juicy tangy, bursting with flavors and the pita in the salad is made into a curly flower and gives a delicious crunch. We liked the dish of garbanzo and yogurt a bit less, as it was quite heavy and lacked flavor. My son was very pleased with shish tavouk with chicken, and I loved my halloumi dish.
